SCALE MODELING BACK IN THE TECHNIC FORUM? As agreed in the Scale Modeling Forum's future topic, after several years as an independent Forum, the Scale Modeling forum is now again a part of the Technic forum. Since Scale Models are mostly vehicles, we have decided to merge the Scale Modeling Forum with the Technic Forum, to keep the Scale Models visible and to provide for them to get the amount of replies/attention they deserve. WHAT IS SCALE MODELING? A scale model is most generally a physical representation of an object, which maintains accurate relationships between all important aspects of the model, although absolute values of the original properties need not be preserved. This enables it to demonstrate some behavior or property of the original object without examining the original object itself. The most familiar scale models represent the physical appearance of an object in miniature, but there are many other kinds. Scale models are used in many fields including engineering, architecture, film making, military command, salesmanship and hobby model building. While each field may use a scale model for a different purpose, all scale models are based on the same principles and must meet the same general requirements to be functional. The detail requirements vary depending on the needs of the modeler. To be a true scale model, all relevant aspects must be accurately modeled, such as material properties, so the model's interaction with the outside world is reliably related to the original object's interaction with the real world. (Wikipedia) WHAT IS SCALE MODELING IN LEGO TERMS? A scale model in LEGO terms should be a model that is accurately scaled down, visually representing its real world counterpart, that is built as advanced Model Team, mainly with bricks, plates and tiles, with high level of detail and prime execution. GUIDELINES The basic site guidelines apply to Scale Modeling MOCs. Requirements for a model to be posted as Scale Model are: It has to represent a real world counterpart, scaled as closely as possible. Vehicles must be built in minimum scale of around 1:20. Ships, planes do not have minimum scale requirement. It has to be built as advanced Model Team, mainly with bricks, plates and tiles, with high level of details and prime execution. They cannot be purely Technic. Non vehicle MOCs (like scale models of buildings, utensils, figures, animals, etc...) do not belong in this forum. [SMF] prefix can be used in your Scale Model's topic name, for it to be distinguished from the Technic models, but it is not mandatory. STAFF Milan and Jim will be managing this section of the forum. If you have any questions regarding SMF, don't hesitate to send them a PM. NOTABLE TOPICS Scale Modeling Building Help

[CADA] CADA General Discussion Topic
Jim replied to Milan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
We always more or less allowed CADA, but we don't want to flood the board with CADA topics. This seems like a reasonable solution. Glad it's appreciated. I will unpin this topic and add it to the index. -
Okay. Well, very cool either way.

Very cool Bob! I watched the video, but does the model "transform" from hover to driving mode? Or is it a "static" model?

As you might know, the MINDSTORMS Robot Inventor and SPIKE Prime sets each have a corresponding app but they can also function with the other app as well. Without any tracking it is hard to see if this cross compatibility is being used. In order to learn more about this experience the MINDSTORMS team has created a small survey to learn about app preference. Survey: https://forms.office.com/r/7M6njNTHnj The survey will be open until February 18th.

That could be an option, but a bounding box limit seem like the most convenient solution. -

That is something I was seriously thinking about when I wrote my comment. Not sure if everyone has a kitchen scale or small scale though. -

Exactly. But did we have a set part limit? I can't remember (I can look it up of course). So we DID have a part limit contest. Wow, this was before the TC designation. We used a picture to display all the parts. I kinda remembered something like that. In this case we can do a "Mini with bounding box" contest, instead of part limit. -

Maybe we can change polybag to "smallest set in a year's lineup" where we take a look at the dimensions of the small Unimog and the like to set the dimensions. Something like this (143 parts). -

We won't be doing building instructions. Have we done part limit in the past or did we have the same discussion and switched to "bounding box limitations"? If memory serves me right, it was the latter and we haven't had any part number limit. I'm not opposed to that. But you need to divide your highest final score by the number of entries (let me think about it)
