The Technic Confessional
Jim replied to Didumos69's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I'm glad I'm not alone. I hated it when TLG first introduced them, but now I find myself grabbing yellow 5L's instead of black ones. I am also starting to like a more colored chassis. When I only use black and grey I find it dull. So I introduce red connectors and yellow beams for mechanical sections. I guess TLG's decision isn't so bad after all- 121 replies

I have a Technic confession to make... I don't know how to say it, so I'll just throw it out....I'm starting to seriously like the "color coded" red and yellow axles. There you have it!- 121 replies

[REVIEW] 42069 - Extreme Adventure
Jim replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Example (you can manually swipe) -
The last two days I have been building a new chassis for the 42070. This chassis will embed 7 PF motors (2 XL for driving) so it can be operated with full RC. The start of the chassis. The two XL motors are placed below in the chassis. They will easily connect to the front and rear wheels. I have ditched the center diff and simply used one XL motor the front and one for the rear wheels. Somewhere in the middle of making the new chassis. I have placed an M motor on each side of the chassis. One is for steering, like in the original. The other is connected to raising/lowering the hook. I switched the steering side btw, so the motor on the driver's side steers the vehicle. Here's the passenger side. Top view of the center. I also used 2x 12T gears in the hub, instead of the 8 and 24 combo. This makes the vehicle go a lot faster I have finished implementing the last two motors, but I am pretty sure they will be placed like this. The one on the driver's side is directly connected to the outriggers. The other one will be connected to turntable to rotate the arm. PS the battery box and IR receiver are not in their final position. The battery box will be inside the cabin, like the original. Placed a little bit higher, but that's not a problem.

This is basically what we knew 250 posts ago Thanks for sharing it anyway Dave. Some extra confirmation doesn't hurt

Yup the forum has been updated. I don't know the answer to your question. -

It actually serves as a fallout shelter (caverns). Loads of canned food and water has been stored. This! I do suggest extending your itinerary with the places @JGW3000 mentioned. Exactly the tour we did (as you can tell by the pictures). We ended up planning and booking the entire trip before we left. Maybe not so adventurous, but it saves you a lot of frustration when you're there. RV parks and campsites fill up quickly. -
Hi, Sorry for my late reply. Very interesting story. I have been looking into professional turntables as well, but they are pretty expensive. I found an "affordable" one though. The Foldio360 is around 150 euros at the moment. It's not very big though. Using your "phone shake" to trigger the camera is a very nice solution. Awesome!

We don't discuss things like this in the Pub PIONEERTOWN Near Joshua Tree Park there's a small western town called Pioneertown. It wasn't on our Itinerary, but we heard it from a nice lady. It was definitely worth a visit. Just a simple western town, which has also been part of some old movies. Nothing spectacular, but it's worth an hour of your time. GRAND CANYON CAVERNS I am not sure which route you will be taking, but you might want to check the Grand Canyon Caverns. Also not that familiar but 100% worth it. I think it's the second biggest underground cavern system in the world. The biggest is in Russia. You can even sleep in the caverns, but that will cost you a couple of 42070's. SELIGMAN If you take the Route 66 along Grand Canon Caverns you will be able to eat a burger at the world famous Delgadillos Snow Cap. Burgers aren't very special, but the place itself is very cool. ET-HIGHWAY AND AREA 51 If you are fan of aliens and sci-fi etc, I recommend driving over the Extra Terrestrial Highway to the north (or to the South if you are driving clockwise). This is the road next to Area 51. You will be skipping Death Valley if you take that route, but if you are driving a camper you aren't even allowed to go there (during a certain period). These are four things that might not be on your itinerary, but they are definitely worth considering! Ohhh and if you are willing to spend the cash...PLEASE DO THE HELICOPTER TOUR over the Grand Canyon. Most beautiful thing you have ever seen! Well, besides the beforementioned 42070 of course NOTE! If you are afraid of hights, DON'T WORRY! Flying a helicopter is totally different. I am somewhat acrophobic myself, but you don't get that feeling in a helicopter. Do it!! -
Thanks and I definitely agree with you

Technic 2017 Set Discussion
Jim replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Exactly. That's what I've been told. "No more sets for this year, but we are not done with the 40 year anniversary." This can be interpreted in multiple ways, but the way I am reading it, is that there will be a set coming next year. DISCLAIMER: That's my interpretation, nothing official. -

Just to prove that the review of the 42052 - Volvo EW160E isn't the only that takes long to finish, here are some of my pictures taken during our West Coast Trip in 2015 (click image or link to go to album) -
Generic Contest Discussion
Jim replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I will finish the reviews first. After that I will contact TLG about prizes (when Kim is back from his holiday) and I will try to arrange some prizes After that we can get a new contest up-and-running. -
Technic 2017 Set Discussion
Jim replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
We will start a new topic where there is some tangible information. @Sir von Lego provides us with some information, but it is not enough to start a proper discussion. There will be too much speculation and "wishlisting" going on. -
You have bumped a 3 year old topic, without adding actual information. Please refrain from posting in an old topic, unless you actually add something to the discussion. Thanks.

Hi, First of all; I love your project. Amazing. However, Eurobricks is not meant as an advertising platform. We don't mind that put a link to LEGO Ideas in your post, but your topic screams "Support my LEGO Ideas project"! Can you please change the setup of your topic/post so you tell us something about your cool MOC and the history or the idea behind it? Oh and, images can be 1024 wide max. I have done some corrections, if you could rewrite your post a bit, that would be great. Thanks.

SALES AND MARKETING 101 (for mediocre product) Release a new product (42070) and overprice it (279 euro). Make sure there is enough margin for yourself and retailers. Retailer offers product for 200 euro (that's 79 less than MSRP). Consumer sees 200 euro and thinks "Wow, that's a 79 euro discount". Consumer buys product and is a happy camper. What actually happened? Consumer bought a product for 200 euro where he would normally not pay 200 euro for....AND he has a good feeling about it

General Part Discussion
Jim replied to Polo-Freak's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That figures I have never cut axles, but I reckon it will work. How much axles do you need? Why don't you buy them via S&H? They are used in the UCS Snowspeeder, so they should be available. Have you tried that?- 5,507 replies

Why do you specifically need 16L axles? There's no way you can use different lengths and use a connector?- 5,507 replies

If you don't need the box, 270 euro is way too much. I agree with @Saberwing40k on that one. Get it second hand somewhere.
