How to start develop a supercar
Jim replied to badmad's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It's a personal preference. I find it useful to start with a digital build and then turn it into a physical one. And re-iterate from that. Some people prefer to build physically right away. -
Hi, Welcome to Eurobricks. Actually, this site is for 18+, but we do make exceptions. If you will be reading along with him, I am more than happy to see how it works out. I am all in favor of kids learning cool stuff It kinda depends on what you (or he) want to accomplish. It's probably best to decide on a new project and go from there. Get the sensors if you need them. Get the extra motors if you need them. They are costly, so I won't buy them unless you need them. Getting a set like the 42082 will give you a lot of bang for your buck. And it's mainly black with red, which works fine with the Mindstorms set. I don't know if you have ever considered getting some Rotacaster wheels? They are great to make cool robots.

I absolutely love digital stuff and I frequently use digital building instructions. However, when you buy a building toy, it needs to have paper building instructions....period. Otherwise, it's useless for people who don't have access to digital building instructions, for whatever reason. Digital only for the B-model is fine by me.

How to start develop a supercar
Jim replied to badmad's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I have literally zero experience in building/designing a supercar. However, I do have experience designing software. Therefore, I would use a similar approach when building/designing a supercar. Break down the build in smaller parts and combine the parts to construct the whole. For example, start working on the rear suspension and the front suspension with steering. Think about a gearbox and combine it all on a chassis. When you have finished, start thinking about the bodywork. As an example, I can highly recommend building Nathanael's modular car chassis. It might not look as cool as some of the supercars, but it will be very useful to learn how to think in different modules within the build. -

I need some spare time to test your stuff. Just a friendly message that I haven't forgotten about it -

That is some bold planning by the store, expecting to only sell two copies close after launch -

Approval doesn’t take long and if you want you can even plan the actual release date (taking approval time in account). So you can plan an exact date, like TLG has done for the 1st of October. Anyway, maybe it's indeed time to close the discussion and carry on with the actual set discussion. Guilty myself. Sorry about that, but I always get a bit annoyed when a simple solution can solve a unnecessary problem. -

We are not talking about ourselves, but about consumers who purchase a 400+ euro set which cannot be controlled like advertised. -

Like I said earlier; this problem is easily solved by releasing the app the moment you ship the set. We can discuss all we want, but it's not more complicated than that. -

Enough experience to know that sets will hit the stores before app release date, even if it has just been a year. The shopkeeper should know better and not put the set on the shelves. They should be well aware that the app is not available. Especially when it's a LEGO Brand Store. -

The stores should take responsibility and not put it on the shelves before the 1st of October. Again, it's not the consumer's job to know that the app is not available yet. We are not talking AFOLs here. We're talking consumers, with expectations....buying a 400+ euro set. -

Except, it's not effective. The past has proven that. You buy a 400+ euro set and you can't operate it. That is bad, really really bad. -

Simply plan the release date for the app update a couple of weeks prior to the “embargo” date. It’s not that complicated. I really don’t get the “exact timing”, which always leads to confusion and disappointment. -

Hi, Welcome to EB and the Mindstorms forum Like I said on Facebook, I would love to see one or two sample projects to get started. I will probably manage myself, but samples are always welcome. Currently, I am working on a Technic review, but when I am done, I love to test all your stuff. -

Please don’t ignite the issue any further. PM is fine. No need to post that here. Thanks -
