I realised just the other day in a theme where many were (justifiably) complaining about a theme ending too early and how Lego themes run too short, that short Lego themes are actually a part I really love. I understand how some people love a long line and I can too, but for me I love having a huge diverse multitude of themes and genres and styles to collect. Next year I'll be getting Cthulhu and a Camel. The year after? Who knows! I love it, because it means I can expect a totally unexpected new theme. I'm not an army builder, my Castle display is boring for me with so many minifigs and no diversity. Having so many different little themes for me allows also for a great mixing in styles when I tear the sets apart. Of course I still love long-lived themes, I want Space to continue, but having a few one-off or two year themes is something I really love about Lego. What do you guys reckon? Is short or long better? Do you prefer either? Is the conception of time of little matter to you since you reside outside the universe as an abomination? I'm interested in hearing your thoughts. Do you prefer quantity or diversity when it comes to minifigs?
Batbrick replied to ziljin's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Diversity all the way. Having a Cthulhu and Indy and a Princess and a Space Marine and a Squidman and a Aquaraider and etc allows me to make a multitude of crearinos psanning many different themes, and also allows me to mix'n'match to create new figs. It is also my theory that eventually getting so, so, so many different minifig pieces and accessories one can make practically any type of character one wants. Batbrick Away! -
Uhm, it was obviously a joke meant to convey how badly he wanted those sets. Trust me, reading between the lines is a neat trick once you master it. And I too really, really want that Lego Woody. Batbrick Away!

Tomorrow Never Dies was on TV the other day. Bot the greatest Bond movie but not quite deserving of the flack it gets. The idea of a media mogul as the villain is a bit over-the-top, but compared to Moonraker or Octopussy the film is relatively tame by Bond standards and atleast very enjoyable compared to late abysmal Brosnan films. Damn I wish we celebrated Halloween over here, it seems so fun. If we ever did 'd go as the Riddler straight away. Alas, I'll have to wait till we visit America one day... Batbrick Away!

Another fantastic moc form you Captain'Spaulding! You're quickly becoming my new favourite mocer. Love the set up with the background and all, and like TheBrickster said the step design is great. Excellent use of minifigs, the diverse range really sells the work, but the inclusion of classic monsters definitely lifts the whole thing. Great little "castle on a hill" design too, I love it to bits, and the use of orange certainly adds to the Halloween nature of it Batbrick Away!

Very good point, this definitely gives me a bit more hope for the line to continue, as it would be odd for them to do that. Batbrick Away!

Fantastic Captain'Spaulding! I love the box look and the technic and skull on the sides work really well as a display piece. A very unusual but very effective design, the actual scene is just as perfect. I love the look of the steampunk boats and robots, and the foliage with skull signpost is a wonderful touch! Surprise Find! Not mine: Turku Castle in Lego
Batbrick replied to Teddy's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
My goodness that's fantastic! Thanks for posting this find Teddy, I especially love the studded roof look and the mixed greys look. The round tower especially is fantastic. Batbrick Away! -
You know, I always say that, but I never do for some reason. Probably just saving money, but I really wish I had bought another Indy Cairo set. Batbrick Away!

While I'm sad to see the theme go I am still very happy we got atleast two years worth of it with eight sets and one exclusive the first years and seven sets the second year, ranging all four movies. That's still really good stuff if you ask me, and it looks like Prince of Persia will be able to fill in our Indy needs anyway. Batbrick Away!

Man this is great Captain'Spaulding! I love all the little greebles you've added, the claw hand especially looks great. The chain and arm section that wraps around the minifig's head looks superb as well, good choice of helmet too, fits right in. The only thing I would change are the legs, they look a little simple compared to the rest and a little short too. awesome little walker all up though Batbrick Away!

New Games Regulator: Dragonator!
Batbrick replied to Shadows's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Congrats Draggy mate! I know you'll do a great job running this little spot, and definitely keep some of your own games running Batbrick Away! -
I watched In the Mouth of Madness by John Carpenter, starring the not-in-enough-movies Sam Neill. I actually really enjoyed it, but understand that if someone is not familiar to HP Lovecraft's work then the "badguys" of the film may be confusing. As it was, it had a few bad moments such as the main girl's acting, and some scares that weren't pulled off. Still, other parts were downright creepy and shocking, and scene of the freakish abominations down the corridor amazingly worked which I had doubted it could, for the tiny time they appeared the creatures were amazingly crafted and done. Batbrick recommends atleast giving this movie a try, it's one of the few times I disagree with the critics (it had a mixed reaction) as I felt it had some great scary and surreal moments and was quite challenging thematically to the viewer. [MOC] Snake's Apocafied Cargo Truck (5972 'mod')
Batbrick replied to wunztwice's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
It's beautiful! I love the construction of the truck, making it post-apocafied just makes it better! The flames at the top are very neat, and the ramming front is great. good job of converting the set into a proper truck, the only thing I feel should be done is for the back to be a bit more post-apocafied, even if it just means adding a few chains to the container. Hey I'd be happy with that, as long as the series goes out with a bang and not a whimper of two admttingly very good, but still msall set. Batbrick Away!

Nice little fighter, I like it. A bit of a generic design, but a good one nonetheless, but I agree with Zero, the cokpit needs a bit of sprucing up. Batbrick Away!

Hehe, you really do love perverting childhood memories as much as possible don't you? Great improv gag at the end there, and I find it funny how Scouse's accent tends to fluctuate form part to part. Batbrick Away!

Wow! That's brilliant, the two heads is a great touch. Certainly much better than the actual set, though I didn't expect the set to reach this standard anyway. The Power Miners vehicle is awesome too! Love those arms. Batbrick Away!
-
Exactly, and there are still heaps of one-sided heads that come out, it's not like they are taking over any time soon. As for Bricklink, I really need to use it one day, definitely need some parts for my Wayne Manor. But when it comes to getting a fig, I like to buy the set they come in unless it is really, really expensive. Cthulhu will definitely be a set purchase for me. Batbrick Away!

Signed by Batbrick - on the one condition that if it doesn't return anytime soon no one keeps comparing current themes to it But don't worry, I REALLY would love a Wild West theme. Batbrick Away!
-
Yeah, I don't think a fifth movie would come soon enough for this license, and even then I'd probably rather it not be made and miss on on the theme, it's a small price to pay for not seeing all the life being sucked out of the franchise. Batbrick Away!

Blech! Smurf J.J Abrams really is one sick director isn't he? I laughed at the use of the lightning piece as a projectile vomit, it works in a really strange way. And the "upchuck fetish crowd" made me laugh, there really is every fetish imaginable out there somewhere And of course Jack the Smurfer saves the day once again, you've really created one of the most three dimensional characters in him, what with the pathos and homicidal urges and all! Looking forward to the next parts of the story, I'm getting curious over just where Scouse is (probably still with Ronald). Batbrick Away!

I actually really like double sided heads for the most part, as most headgear covers their backface. That "crybaby" look on the above picture is a hilarious example of why I love them. Batbrick Away!
