Harry Potter 2021 - Rumors & Discussion

I knew it! “Keep the faith” I said! I knew Marcos and his team wouldn’t let us down... His answer when asked about Gringott’s in that Live event was so telling. I am keeping the faith that we will be getting Gringott’s this year and it will be one of the most glorious LEGO builds ever! -

I found this old submission of the Wizard’s Chess set to LEGO Ideas from 2015, which features some really interesting build techniques. The chess pieces are a combination of mini figures and mini figure accessories on brick built elements. Take a look: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/8d10ae8a-dd03-46de-b049-37174f840a62 I for one would be happy with something similar to this design but, for $250, it would definitely need to include some castle build elements and a build featuring the final confrontation between Quirrel / Voldemort and Harry. -

Of all the things to be upset about in this wave... this is not it. I think the new McGonagall minifig is gorgeous. If the designer took some artistic liberty on the shape of her clasp or the color of her robes and gown, good for them. She looks all the better for it. What does warrant some upset is the $30 brick built REMEMBERALL set that we will be getting... How is there not more outrage over this? Am I totally misunderstanding what @Falconfan1414 revealed yesterday? He all but confirmed that we would be getting this as a set. I still cannot wrap my head around how LEGO decided on this obscure artifact from the movies, when we could have had a golden snitch or a Nimbus 2000 or a wand or a time turner or anything other than Neville’s blasted REMEMBERALL! -

Can I just say... that I am still GOBSMACKED over @Falconfan1414’s suggestion that we will be getting a brick-built REMEMBERALL this August. I was okay with the Anniversary themed Hogwarts, I love the minifigs and beasts we are getting, and I am genuinely excited about the D2C Wizard’s chess set. But THIS... this I cannot bear. Not a brick-built Snitch. No sir, not even a brick-built Nimbus 2000. But a brick-built REMEMBERALL. I feel like this has to be some kind of prank. Merlin’s beard... It is literally just a glass ball with a gold rim. How can one render that in LEGO form and sell it for $30? I imagine it will come with a little bit of castle and a few minifigs to make it more palatable. Hooch, Neville, Malfoy, Harry. Unbelievable. In case anyone is curious, here is the official movie prop that was used as the Rememberall, currently on display at the WB Studio Tour in London. -

I don’t want to jump the gun here - but when the images of the Chamber of Secrets set first leaked I posted a comment about a translucent bar connected to the Staircase Tower section that looked like something was meant to be attached to it... My theory was that the missing something was an open-winged Fawkes figure. Now that we have confirmed that a brick-built Fawkes will be part of this new wave of sets, I think we are all but guaranteed to get this open-winged Fawkes figure. Much like how the brick-built Hedwig set came with the new open-winged Hedwig figure. If this is the case, and an open-winged Fawkes is on its way along with that beautiful Basilisk build - this wave just got a whole lot better in my eyes. -

Has the idea of another Hogwarts Moments book set been completely ruled out? Because the $30 set matches that price point. I could see us getting a book for Defense Against the Dark Arts with Lockhart in his blue robes and the Cornish Pixies. I doubt they will try to squeeze this into the Chamber of Secrets set. I think it’s more like that we get a Slytherin Common Room there. -

This fits perfectly into LEGO’s new “build together” marketing strategy. Buy some sets that you can build with the kids while enjoying nostalgic moments. Then buy a set that you and your partner can build together over a bottle of wine. You build one figure and your partner builds the other! I wonder if Harry and Hermione will look like giant mini figs or if LEGO will attempt to make them look realistic. I would much prefer big minifigs... -

I feel like it is almost a given that one of the buildable figures has to be Harry. Who would be a “weird” head-scratch inducing choice to pair with him? If I had to guess based on LEGO’s new “build together” theme, I would say it’s Harry and Ginny. Or Harry and Cho... Oh God please no - not a giant brick built Cho in brown face to haunt my nightmares! -

Oh no... I could see a buildable Harry vs Voldemort statue (like the one Funko recently did) being a possibility. That would be a hard pass for me personally. -

I feel like this is a bit overly dramatic... How can you say the new lineup isn’t satisfying anyone? I, for one, am thrilled at the prospect of a beautiful LEGO Wizard’s Chess set and the other sets and minifigs are growing on me daily. It may be the case that you are not satisfied with this lineup, but you are not the target audience. The audience is - first and foremost - kids. What LEGO has cleverly done this year is expand the target audience by intentionally including young parents (late 20s, early 30s) who are nostalgic about Harry Potter and want to share the magic as a family. This was the primary theme of the LEGO Harry Potter live event over the weekend - these products are designed for you to build together as a family. I believe you mentioned working for LEGO - doesn’t any of this ring true from your employee training? -

Haha yes. I think I can take credit for that one. It was my suggestion after we heard how “disappointing” the August wave. I said the worst possible set we could get would be a brick built Sorting Hat, because no matter how you design it, it will inevitably end up looking like a poo emoji: 💩 But it was just a joke @Ashnflash! I have no insider info to suggest this is actually happening. If we do end up getting a brick built Sorting Hat, I will have to buy some lottery tickets. -

My money is on my original prediction for the $120 set once we knew this wave would be “disappointing” - I think we are going to get a brick built Sword of Gryffindor. -

For those who aren’t super familiar with the chess set from the final challenge, here is a pic from a replica set made by the Noble Collection. As you can see, the pieces are stunning and will hopefully make for a really fun build: -

Agreed. The chess pieces will almost certainly have to be brick built pieces. The scale will be really interesting. I hope they are big enough for Ron’s minifig to ride the Knight piece. I imagine the queen is going to be a beautiful build. This is one of the most iconic chess sets in movie history. I’m getting more and more excited to see pics of it now. -

Re-sharing my comment from March 3rd following the prediction a LEGO D2C Wizard’s Chess Set. I am actually excited for this set and I still think it’s a very smart move on LEGO’s part. I have so many friends and family members who have spent hundreds - even thousands - of dollars for beautiful chess sets to display in their home following Queen’s Gambit. I, too, have been tempted by a few midcentury vintage marble sets I’ve seen but couldn’t justify the astronomical price tags. This will probably be a day one buy for me because it scratches two itches. I hope it is as beautiful as I am imagining it. Can’t wait to see what they’ve done with the Knight piece and if there’s a way for Ron to ride it. -

Where are you seeing this? It’s not under #legoleaks. I love the new Pixie design. The wings being translucent is a nice touch. I want dozens of these little buggers though. Hope at least one comes in a cheap set. -

This is a great list. It’s missing a lot (all) of the Black characters, though. And I hope we get a few more obscure witches and wizards who are named in the films. Here are my initial recommendations. Thanks for sharing this. 1. Lee Jordan 2. Angelina Johnson 3. Bem 4. Blaise Zabini 5. Daedalus Diggle 6. Doris Crockford 7. several additional costume variants of the golden and silver trios EDIT: I forgot the ghosts too! Fat Friar, Gray Lady, and Bloody Baron -

Just watched the LEGO Live event with Marcos and I have two major takeaways... First, I’m beginning to understand the logic behind the design of the new LEGO Harry Potter 20th anniversary sets. The entire theme of the Live stream was - “Families can build together!” LEGO is really trying to promote the narrative that its toys bring parents and kids together. With the 20th anniversary sets, you can enjoy the nostalgia of a movie from your childhood by building sets that look similar to ones you may have had as a kid with your kid. This probably doesn’t do much to excite AFOLs who don’t have kids (like me), but I imagine it’s probably smart marketing for AFOLs with kids. Second, I think the question about Gringott’s and Marcos’ answer were very telling... I had pretty much given up all hope that we would be getting a Gringott’s set this year based on the leaks and the feedback we received from our friends with insider info. However, the fact that LEGO chose to bring that question live (and that it came from a store manager of a LEGO store) means that they wanted that information out there. Marcos’ face lit up with joy when he was asked about Gringott’s - and even though his answer was funny and evasive - it looked like a subject he was very excited about. I’m keeping the faith for Gringott’s in 2021! -

Grimmauld Place would be my first choice too. I’ve seen some incredible MOCs done of it. Another set I’d love to design would be a Knockturn Alley expansion set to scale with the D2C Diagon Alley. I love the spooky elements of Harry Potter and shops like Borgin and Burke’s capture that perfectly. I’d love to fill B&B’s with little skulls and sarcophaguses and cursed jewels. The window display of Dystyl Phalanges - the shop directly across from Borgin’s - would also be an amazing build. The shop specializes in bones and fossils - they even sell bone furniture. I can’t think of anything creepier or cooler. The minifig selection of dark witches and wizards wandering down the Knockturn Alley set could also be amazing... “Not lost are you my dear?” -

Yes!!! That’s what I’ve been hoping for since the relaunch in 2018. The unicorn could just be running into the forest like it is on the cover of the original Scholastic book cover for Sorcerer’s Stone. -

You are right! On the 2018 Great Hall box, Nick’s head just appears at an impossible angle on his neck thanks to the magic of photoshop. In the leaked image of the new Chamber of Secrets set, Nick is straight up holding his own decapitated head in the air! Pretty gruesome and maybe a good sign of things to come for this series... Dead unicorn anyone??? EDIT: Woops! Just took a look at the box and Nick is actually HOLDING his head on the 2018 set as well. How did I miss that???
