  1. Well, at least this seems to dispel the rumor that the plane set was cancelled (I have no idea how that one started but I remember a few days ago that someone brought it up). Honestly, as much as I want the ToD set (I missed that one the first time around, so that and the Well of the Souls sets were my most wanted out of this wave), I'd really just like info on why it's supposedly postponed/cancelled, because that would at least give us some idea of whether or not we might actually see it.
  2. That guy isn't a real leaker, look through the rest of the page.
  3. The only sets that we've gotten which were technically considered MBS are the Cantina (2020, but it's still on shelves now) and Cloud City. However, you could retroactively apply the label to the Assault on Hoth, Ewok Village, the two minifigure Death Stars (not the DS II model), and debatably the original Cloud City, as I believe the numbering lines up with UCS sets, and some books have classified it as UCS.
  4. I mean, the 501st pack has more pieces for $5 fewer, and they've proven in the past that they can do a swamp speeder in a battle pack (Kashyyyk troopers). So it's definitely going to have some draw in the figures, otherwise it would be the exact same thing as the 501st pack except a different clone legion and a different build, and costs $5 extra.
  5. I mean, at the same time, it's been 10 years since our last Celebration Leia and probably around the same for Celebration Luke (I think the book came out around 2010 but probably could still be found after a few years, since those tend to have long shelf lives). Not sure on Han, because I know we had a minifigure come out around the same time as those others, but it's pretty much the exact same as regular ANH Han plus a printed medal, so if they do a medal piece, it might not be anything terribly different? Point being, it's the same thing as the UCS X-Wing. Those of us that have been collecting for 10+ years most likely have those figures. The thousands of people who haven't been collecting that long either don't have them at all, want them but they're too prohibitively expensive, or don't even know that they exist (especially Han/Luke, since most people probably don't keep tabs on book exclusives). It's also worth saying that we should probably wait for further details/pictures, because inevitably this happens every year, where we get partial/incomplete/uncertain set details that causes multi-page discussions, and then turns out to be all for nothing. I remember the TIE Fighter a couple of years ago had concept box art that evidently used the minifigure silhouettes from Luke's Landspeeder (but no one knew that at the time), so some leaker said it included a minifigure with short legs, prompting a lengthy series of questions about what that could possibly be, before it came out that it was just placeholders. I know that example isn't exactly the same situation as here, but my point is that until we actually see pictures, we don't know, so it's best to just be patient and wait. I'm also very surprised at the lackluster response to the Yavin set info. I feel like it's been a fairly highly requested location for some time now, since it was pretty much the last major OT location that hasn't had a full-size set (I think the only one left is the Lars Homestead). I'm excited to see what it looks like, I think the sketch model from a while ago looked like a really good concept, so I'm hoping it's something similar.
  6. Is everyone overlooking the part?
  7. I feel like a lot of people are looking at the UCS X-Wing from the perspective of an AFOL that's been collecting Star Wars for 5-10+ years (probably because most people on this forum fall into that demographic). For someone that only recently got into LEGO or LSW, this makes a lot of sense. I feel like the X-Wing and Millennium Falcon are the two "staples" of the theme that pretty much have to be on shelves in some form or another at almost all times. Obviously they can do more re-releases at system scale, since UCS models only get one or two per year, but seeing that it's been a decade since the last UCS X-Wing, there's probably a very sizable portion of buyers that either missed the last one or weren't even into LEGO at the time. Plus, the secondary market prices for UCS stuff are such that you basically have to buy any UCS/MBS model when it comes out or else pay 2-3x or more of the original price.
  8. Again, why don't we all wait a bit and see what happens? I'm a bit skeptical of this "Indy 5 sets are totally cancelled" news. It just doesn't logically make sense to revive a theme, put out 3-4 sets that don't coincide with the new movie, and that's it, especially when Hasbro and other toy companies will have Indy 5 toys out on the shelves (which have already been revealed). Even still, at the end of the day, if stuff is cancelled, sure it'd be disappointing, but it's still just a toy. I don't think it's worth letting that bother you (this is a general you, not targeted at one person) that much.
  9. I feel like before having a conniption, we should probably wait and see what actually happens with this. The sets were slated for reveal in like a week, if I'm not mistaken, so maybe just wait? It's been 14 years since the last sets, waiting another week wouldn't hurt...
  10. Definitely wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if it came with Luminara and Gree, but I think Aayla Secura + Bly would be my #1 choice there. I might be a bit ambitious predicting 3 figures + 2 droids, but I feel like with the price per piece ratio that high, it would have to be somewhat heavy on the minifigures. It also seems like they're more generous with figures if it includes droids, since they're only sorta kinda minifigures. If they do go closer to a 4+/battle pack sized speeder, I feel like they'd want to include some sort of antagonist for playability, otherwise it's just a battle pack with fewer figures but a slightly larger build.
  11. Predictions for the sets: Since the Swamp Speeder is only 108 pieces, I'm thinking it'll be really similar to 75035, with a slightly beefier speeder. 8091 was 153 pieces, so I'm thinking not quite as big as that, but probably a bit closer to that size. I'm thinking it pretty much has to include some desirable minifigures, because that's really expensive and I can't see a huge draw for it otherwise. My guess is that it'll be 2 battle droids (maybe one standard and one super battle droid?), Aayla Secura, Commander Bly, and a 327th trooper, OR it'll be 2 of the Kashyyyk battle droid from the AT-AP a few years ago, Commander Gree, and 2 Kashyyyk troopers. Very long shot prediction is that it includes 2 battle droids, Captain Rex, and 2 501st clones. My hope is that it's with Aayla Secura and Bly (Rex would be great but I doubt it), so I guess we'll see. Regardless, I feel like it will probably include at least one named character, the question is who? Yavin IV apparently includes at least 12 minifigures and there was someone saying that it'll be the Celebration figures (not sure if that was legitimate or not, but it would make sense, as it supposedly includes a Y-Wing, so there would be no place for pilot Luke. Plus, the only ones that are different are Luke and Leia, Han and Chewie are the same). I'm guessing Celebration Luke, Celebration Leia, Han, Chewbacca, R2-D2, and C-3PO are definitely coming. We pretty much have to get a Y-Wing pilot, so Gold Leader makes the most sense there. I would also guess at least one more pilot, so it'd probably be one of Wedge, Biggs, or Red Leader. Dodonna is pretty much a must, especially since they can probably just re-use the figure from the X-Wing. I would then guess some combination of fleet troopers (someone has to stand in the guard tower), Rebel honor guard, and ground crew. Maybe one of each?
  12. I think with respect to the mechs, it makes a lot of sense why we're getting them, though I'm a bit surprised they went with a Stormtrooper and not, like, Kylo Ren or Darth Maul or someone. When I was at the age that these mechs will mostly target, battle packs were sort of a brand new thing, and I remember thinking they were cool, but I probably would've been equally as into (or more interested in) an opportunity to get named characters at a cheap price point. For whatever reason, in the early-mid 2000s, it was freaking impossible to get most named OT characters in cheap sets (cheap being like $30 or less). I legitimately don't think I owned any other than pilot Luke (from the 2007 Echo Base that was a gift) and ROTJ Luke (from a watch). If I could've gotten a Boba Fett or Darth Vader in a $15 set, I would've jumped at the chance, and I'd imagine kids today will (though I'm not entirely sure why they're putting out Boba while he also has a Microfighter on shelves).
  13. Is the Chewbacca a realistic bust (like the Darth Maul one from forever ago or the Porg from a few years back) or is it like a megafigure (like the Harry Potter ones)? I think the latter could be kinda cool, actually.
  14. I feel like the AT-AT could be safely ruled out considering both a UCS and system scale Hoth version is currently available (I know you're just listing large stuff that we haven't gotten from the OT and not saying specifically that's coming). That said, I'm completely baffled, if it's not any of these...what the heck else is there at a $150+ price point that is OT but isn't a remake? System scale SSD? Yavin IV? I truly cannot think of anything else beyond those, and I feel like the SSD would be well received, and Yavin has been requested for a very long time, so that's definitely not a "temper your expectations" set.
  15. If you're curious, I spent way too long researching and writing a post about why this could be the case a few months ago in the Wislist thread (shameless self promotion ). So at least my efforts weren't entirely wasted, I guess! Anyway, regarding the info we're getting on the summer sets, I'm intrigued. I know it's been said to temper expectations but now I'm more just curious than anything about what in the world some of these sets are going to be. I have a few guesses on the smaller stuff, but these cryptic hints about the big ones have honestly led me to be more and more confused each time we get some more info.
  16. Maybe the UCS Gonky the Gonk Droid idea is going to become a reality?
  17. If I remember correctly, the UCS Y-Wing literally appeared on shelves before anyone outside of LEGO employees knew what was coming.
  18. I was curious about this and did some digging. I'm taking what Brickset considers themes and counting ones that include minifigures (not going to include gear/books, because then that gets really questionable about what constitutes a theme or not): Unlicensed: City, Collectible Minifigures (I feel like these count here), Creator, Icons, Monkie Kid, Ninjago, Seasonal You've also got Friends, which isn't minifigures but is an unlicensed playtheme (as opposed to stuff like Dots or Art), so I feel like that is reasonable to count. Licensed: Avatar, DC, Disney, Harry Potter, Jurassic World, Marvel, Minecraft, Speed Champions, Star Wars Mario is sort of a gray area, I think if we're counting Friends, we probably have to count Mario. I didn't know where to put Ideas, because it includes both licensed and unlicensed sets at a fairly even ratio, so it's kind of both. By this count, I see 8 unlicensed play themes and 10 licensed play themes. So in terms of themes, licensed wins. If you're looking at the actual quantity of sets, though, I'd imagine it's relatively even. Some of the licensed themes don't really put out that many sets per year (DC has gotten, like, four sets a year, for the past five years, though supposedly there's more stuff coming there this year, Avatar has only 5 sets, Speed Champions is usually just two small waves per year, etc), whereas City seems to have 25+ sets on shelves at any given time. I'm not going to take the time to go through and count individual sets, but I would suspect that it's reasonably equal between all of these. It's also worth noting that Speed Champions includes licensed vehicles, but generally includes generic, unlicensed minifigures (though recently they've done some movie cars, which use flesh tone minifigures). However, for the most part, the figures are yellow tone. I'm still counting it as a licensed theme, but the original discussion was about flesh vs. yellow figures, so that's sort of a middle area?
  19. It took longer than this for us to get the 2020 summer list. If I remember correctly, we had a really blurry box picture of Grievous' fighter in January/February but no other details on sets. I'm fairly certain then that we knew we were getting the Knights of Ren ship, AT-AT, and 3 smaller sets in like early March (which turned out to be the 501st clones, Anakin's starfighter, and the AAT), but didn't have concrete details on anything yet. The 501st set wasn't revealed until April and I'm pretty sure literally the only public info on that was that it was supposed to be an AT-RT. The Final Duel was an "unknown retail exclusive" until we got a picture, and the Resistance transport as a set wasn't on anyone's radar at all and was a total surprise when we got a picture.
  20. Would also echo the suggestion to use Stud.io on the computer to get started. It'll be a little bit slow at first as you get the hang of the program, but it's not too bad once you get accustomed to it. If you're talking about general techniques, the great thing is that there really are no rules about what the right/wrong way to build things are. Often, I'll have an idea for a build in mind, but along the way, it may change shape, as I find different pieces and think "Ooh, this would work really well if I used it as XYZ," or I might just start connecting pieces and end up liking the shape or design that I come up with. Anyway, this is all just to say, let your imagination run and things will probably turn out OK!
  21. That pirate figure build looks very cool, it's a shame it may not get a wide release. I'd love to see other iconic LEGO characters get made in that same style (classic spaceman, classic castle king, classic town policeman/doctor, skeleton, Johnny Thunder, Pepper Roni, etc).
  22. I think the issue is that there aren't that many OT vehicles even left that are popular and large enough to do as a UCS model. I could maybe see an Endor speeder bike, but that would be like $100 max, which is kind of small for a UCS these days. I know the Rebel medical frigate was in the fan vote, as was the TIE Bomber, and those I could also see, but I feel like even those are kind of pushing it, since they don't really have that much screen time (even when compared to something like the A-Wing or Y-Wing, which at least have very easily identifiable designs). With respect to the PT, it seems like the Gunship was kind of...meh...in terms of reaction. I'm sure it has sold well enough, given that it's stayed in production (whereas there are UCS sets that only lasted a year before being retired), but it seems like most of the people clamoring for more prequel sets want minifigure based sets, which UCS models generally are not. With the ST, I truly have no idea what the plan is there. I definitely think that there are vehicles from the PT that would make great UCS models (Eta-class Jedi starfighter, Venator, Vulture Droid, a remake of an N-1 in a more modern UCS style, just to name a few), but if we don't get anything like that soon, I feel like the sales of the Gunship weren't any better than the average sales of an OT UCS ship. I don't think we've gotten any ST sets post-Rise of Skywalker with the exception of a 4+ Poe's X-Wing, and whenever I look at other Star Wars toys on the shelves, it's pretty much all Mandalorian (and TBOBF), Kenobi, OT, or clone merch on the shelves right now. There's definitely stuff that would be good as a UCS model, but I have no idea if they'd go this direction with ST merch at all. I'm even surprised we haven't gotten Kylo Ren's helmet yet, because that seems like a no-brainer, even if ST merch might be unpopular.
  23. The title pretty much says it all, but to elaborate, I was looking on Bricklink today and found some examples of sets that are either currently available (or were recently retired) available for sale, still new in box, for sometimes less than the price you would pay at the LEGO store. For example, if you go and look at available listings for new copies of 75192, you have to go to the second page before you can find any that are $850 (the current retail price for it). Some of the listings are over $100 under the currently retail price! Most of the stores have a ton of feedback, all of it being positive, and the average Bricklink consumer is definitely going to be privy to sellers who may have resealed boxes or are selling knockoff bricks and trying to pass them off as real (compared to an average eBay buyer that may not be as knowledgable about LEGO, whereas I would guess most Bricklink users are AFOLs or others that are "in the know" about LEGO). Because of that, I don't think they're scams, because these users would've been called out and/or banned. So, how are people able to sell these for so far under retail price? Are they somehow able to buy them at wholesale price? Are they stolen? (not really sure how you'd shoplift a UCS Falcon, so at least in this specific case, that seems unlikely) Factory backdoors? Something else? I would assume that with smaller sets (say, under $50 or so), there's a chance people buy a bunch of them on sale, but with D2Cs or really large sets, sales seem a lot less common. Again, I'm only talking about new in box sets here. Anyway, just curious about this. Hopefully this topic is in the right spot!
  24. Huh, I've never heard that before, but looking at it again, I can totally see it. I've never seen the movie, so I don't know how accurate the traps and stuff are to the actual scenes, but it's kind of crazy how much stuff overlaps. You've got the spinning saw wheel coming from the top, there's the lion heads on either side, and the gear mechanism visible on the ground. It also would sort of line up time-wise (no pun intended), because if I remember right, Indy was rumored to be returning in 2010, but I distinctly remember seeing some stuff saying it was "placed on hold" as a theme (which, I guess technically that's correct, it just lasted almost fifteen years).
  25. My interpretation of why we didn't get Luke's Landspeeders was because we got the two other speeders, neither of which would really work in any non-Cantina set, so it makes sense to include those, since that's pretty much the only way we'd ever get them. So, I feel like the skiff is more of a question of whether or not this thing will be MBS in style (and include several minifigures + a playset-like interior) or UCS in style. If it's the former, I would think that a skiff (or two) and Sarlacc pit are extremely likely given the rumored piece count. I wonder what this "controversial" thing is all about. If I remember right, only three or four of the set numbers were included in the new "gimmick" line, so maybe the rest are all remakes? I would't necessarily hate that, if it's still we haven't had for a while, at least.
