LEGO Star Wars 2023 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

Speaking from the US perspective, it does help drive down the BL price quite a bit, even if it's still not as cheap here as it often is in Europe. Even though shipping costs are kind of high to go overseas, it's not too bad to ship just some small stuff, like a minifigure (I think you can do it for under $10-15), so sellers in the US can't jack up prices that much. There's also people that seemingly bring in very large quantities of the minifigure magazine packs to the US and resell them. Bo-Katan, for example, was like a $25 minifigure before the magazine came out, and the cheapest ones are still in Europe, but you can still find her for like $11 from American sellers. I actually will have a family member in Europe for an extended period of time next year, so I might have them grab some magazine promos for me while there, if any interest me during that period. It's very odd, but BL prices in Europe seem to be way cheaper for a lot of items (not just minifigures, but sets too). I've found quite a few sets that I would like to own and am absolutely okay paying the BL price, but the problem is that shipping is so much (like, I looked into having an Advent Calendar shipped overseas and it was going to be like $40 or something, which was more than the actual cost of the item). -

I am also confused on this, because I know the Target listings existed at one point (that was where that whole fiasco where the price of the Lost Tomb got switched with the ToD and people were thinking it was going to be an $80 set), and there was a comment a few days ago of someone claiming to have talked to a Target employee who confirmed they had some in the back, but I couldn't find the listings at all. The only major retail stores that I found online listings for were Kohl's and Barnes & Noble. Not sure if Walmart was even going to get these to begin with (maybe not until June?) and I haven't found anything from Target. If someone has the SKU, Brickseek might clear that up. -

I think it's possible that we could get some one-off D2Cs in the future, but assuming nothing else is indeed coming system-wise, I agree that this is probably it. Like, I feel like Indy isn't as popular as Harry Potter or Star Wars, but I do feel it's popular enough to warrant some future quote sets. I could see a Grail temple diorama in a similar size as the Idol Temple (Indy + Henry + Elsa + Donovan + Grail Knight), or maybe the bridge duel from ToD (naturally the quote being "Oh, sh!t" ). That's just purely my speculation, but I do legitimately think it wouldn't be completely off the table. I mean, we got the D2C DeLorean like eight years after the original came out, with the only BTTF stuff in between that being two Dimensions packs (which doesn't really count, because they basically had every single possible license ever outside of Disney in those). I didn't follow PoTC that much, but didn't we also get a one-off D2C a few years after that theme retired? Anyway, point being, I think future dioramas would be possible, but I completely agree that whatever we get as far as system sets this year will be the end of it. -

True, the reason I said that was mostly because I wasn't even thinking of the possibility of them bringing out more Rebels sets (especially if this thing is Ahsoka based), but who knows? It's tough when there's so many SW properties now, because they have to balance OT staples with stuff that needs remakes from TCW/Rebels/PT (Not even going to mention the sequels, Solo, or Rogue One at this point...), and then you've got new content with the Mandalorian, Bad Batch, Book of Boba Fett (I believe we're getting a second season?), and Ahsoka, among other things. Yeah, the main draw there will probably be getting him in a cheaper set, plus Bo-Katan and a pretty cool spider tank build. That said, I kind of hope this eats into sales of it a bit and results in it going on sale quickly and often, because I like the build and I really want that Bo-Katan figure, I just don't want to spend $50 on it. -

Yeah, that's why I grabbed the Tomb today also. I was sort of wanting to wait and see if I could get it for 20% off at Target eventually, but figured that at the end of the day, that's an $8 difference, and if they did underproduce these sets, I wanted to be absolutely sure that I at least got the set I most wanted. Plus, I figured I've waited 14 years for a new Indy line, I could afford to throw down an extra $8 to get it on the release date I don't think they'll end up like that, but given how this line has had so much uncertainty thus far...I don't want to take any chances. -

Agree on Kanan specifically, because he's presumably not going to appear in any new material soon unless it's a flashback scene, and it seems unlikely that there would be a flashback scene substantial enough to actually warrant a set based off of it. If it is Rebels based and they didn't want to include Zeb/Ezra/Sabine, I think my ideal figure lineup would've been Hera, Chopper, and then Kanan, AP-5, and like Ketsu or something, since Jacen and Quarrie weren't really major characters. Of course, if it's Ahsoka based, it could end up making sense later (like how a Gonk droid being included in the BB shuttle didn't make a ton of sense until the show came out). -

Oh, great, I just spent $158 in the last week on LEGO, and now we've got two $150+ sets that I'd love to get with the Ghost and Gunship. Will wait for pictures on the swamp speeder, I have a 332nd from the AAT and it's a cool figure, and I'd love to add Vaughn, but like some folks have said, it wouldn't have been my first choice of figures. Yavin was also already of interest to me, and then possibly the Yoda Starfighter if it's based on the Young Jedi Adventures (no, that's not a joke, I think the 4+ figures were awesome and would love to get them). I also really want that new Bo-Katan figure, so I might very well end up grabbing the Spider Tank too... That's not to mention some of the older sets I've had my eye on recently... -

My local B&N had two each of the Fighter Plane and Lost Tomb (well, $40 later from me, and now they’re down to one Lost Tomb ). What was odd was that they weren’t by the rest of their LEGO, they were on a display in the middle of the store that also had some random Classic, Harry Potter sets; and some non-LEGO plushies and art kits. It took me a minute to find them, and I assumed at first that the website hadn’t updated (as it showed in-stock at this store), but they were there! What’s interesting is that there’s also a listing for the Idol temple, but there’s no option to pick up in store or order, so I’m wondering if they won’t sell it until later? -

To be honest, the biggest thing pointing towards “real” is that this came from Promobricks and they’ve apparently insisted multiple times it’s real (though I haven’t seen that, only seen people here say that). I feel like it would be one thing to post this as an article and then the last sentence say “Oh, by the way, happy April 1st” or something, but I feel like they tend to take precautions a lot to keep credibility (like, they’re typically pretty precise with language for leaks, saying “it most likely contains X” and stuff, even when it’s something very obviously true), so I feel like posting this and doubling down multiple times would hurt their credibility if it is indeed fake. -

So it's either an April Fool's joke, or it's a reverse April Fool's joke, where it is actually real and they dropped it on April 1st to mess with everyone. What I think it has going for it in the "real" column is that a Ghost and Gunship individually would make a lot of sense. The figure lineup for each seems plausible enough (if they were doing a Coruscant gunship from TCW, Palpatine and Padme aren't that outlandish, and Fox would be a draw, especially as I assume he'd be P2), and the prices would seem about right. What smells fishy to me: - Swamp speeder figures seem...plausible, but a bit too outlandish? I mean, TCW S7 was like two years ago now, and I don't really know if they'd go back and revisit Vaughn and the 332nd. - A UCS Venator, let alone one that locks Rex behing a $650 price point, seems WAY too crazy to be real. It's one thing to put Cody in a $140 set, but putting one of the most fan-requested figures in a $650 UCS, especially like two years after saying they didn't want to lock heavily requested figures into expensive UCS sets...I dunno, that seems fake. Like, would they seriously make Rex exclusive to a $650 set? - Getting all of these sets at once seems just way too good to be true. - In the comments, the Promobricks guy doesn't seem to actually refute the comments saying "this is an April Fool's joke" and instead just explains why the list wasn't updating right away...I haven't looked at any of their YouTube stuff, though, so I'm not sure. -

I wonder if anyone's ever tried to re-create the 2010 sketch model and figured out a ballpark of how many pieces that one had? Because that one is actually decently tall, looking at a picture of it now (granted, it uses two baseplates and two of the large crane leg pieces, both of which seem to sorta kinda phased out these days?), and it seems like you could build that model (including the midi scale X-Wing) for around 1,000 pieces, but I have no idea if that's an accurate estimate or not. I'd like it to be as big as possible, but I'm not really sure how tall it could be, because they seem to use fewer of those large specialized parts these days and that's really the only way to make it tall while keeping the part count lower. -

Fair take, I do think with respect to the swamp speeder, there's some credible evidence suggesting it'll be TCW-based figures (even if you take all of the Reddit/Instagram leaks as BS, which, I completely get, because there hasn't really been a proven insider that's said anything about specific figure, jdubbs is reliable and hinted at a TCW-based set on here), but I agree that we can't just take that and make a leap in logic to say "Well, it's gotta be Rex!" (though I think there has to be at least one desirable character in there, because the price point is pretty high and if it were just another army builder, there's no reason why it couldn't be a battle pack). And I'm quite curious about your conspiracy theory! -

I don't mean this as an attack on you, but I feel like you're being too constrained in terms of how they tend to do prequel vehicles, specifically ones that aren't possessed by a sole character (like Anakin's starfighter, or General Grievous' wheel bike, or whatever, where it is actually based off of a specific scene). With the prequels, it's heavily implied that there's a ton of stuff that happens between AOTC and ROTS, and we only really see a fraction of it in TCW (since that show primarily focuses on the main characters other than some episodes here and there that will focus on a different clone legion or Jedi or whatever). I think LEGO takes that logic and runs with it when they make a lot of prequel-era sets, because it's true that, yes, Rex never appeared on screen with a swamp speeder, but given that he did a lot during the Clone Wars that we never saw, it's highly probable that at some point he was fighting in a battle where there was a swamp speeder. Same reason why Barriss Offee was in the original swamp speeder, or the original T-6 had Obi-Wan, Anakin, Shaak Ti, and Saesse Tin (I don't remember all four of them appearing in a T-6 together, though I might be wrong, as I haven't rewatched TCW in a while), or the Republic Frigate with Wolffe + a Wolfpack Trooper, Quinlan Vos, Yoda, and Eeth Koth, or even Ahsoka and a 332nd facing an AAT, even though I'm pretty sure the only AAT that we actually saw in Season 7 was in a short scene at the start, before Ahsoka came back or the 332nd existed. There's lots of other examples besides these, but you get the point. Like it or not, that tends to be how they do things with Republic/Separatist vehicles, and I think generally it works out for the better, as they can throw in minifigures that we might not otherwise get (like, if they wanted to be screen accurate with the AAT, it would've swapped Ahsoka and the 332nd for Anakin and a 501st trooper, which I feel is a significantly worse figure lineup). -

You know, I don’t fully get the dislike for that Yoda figure, I actually quite like it. The set looks good for a 4+ set, I like the temple pieces and the general colors of the set, though I’m not really familiar with the High Republic content. I don’t think I’ll pay $40 for it, but if it ends up on sale, I might grab it. -

I appreciate you giving a good explanation of your position on it! I think I've always been a person that never used battle packs as a way to amass figures (ie buying multiples) and moreso as someone that used them as a way to get interesting figures for cheap. So, stuff like the Bounty Hunter BP, or the Tatooine BP or Jedi and Clone BP were great sets to me, because it gave me useful/formerly rare/desirable figures in a cheap set. Now, I definitely see the appeal of amassing a big army, but I guess that's just never been my thing, so I've never taken an issue with a BP that isn't as conducive to army building, especially in a case like this where you could still get away with adding these figures to your clone army without too much of an issue, at least in my opinion. But, to each their own, and I can understand why some people would've rather gotten something else. -

To be completely honest, regarding the 501st battle pack, am I blind, or is there not really that big of a difference in the figures to where it's completely sacrilegious to place those figures with other 501st clones? Because, I'm really not seeing it. The one guy has different arms, and the heavy troopers have a bandolier over their armor? Even if there is that big of a difference, I feel like to 95% of consumers, they aren't going to notice or really care that much, it's just the people very invested in clone collecting that will. Like, I just don't think it's fair to write it off as "this battle pack isn't actually that good" (I'm not saying anyone on this forum has said that, but I have seen that opinion expressed online) because of some very slight differences in printing. It's also one of those things where I 100% guarantee people would be complaining just as much, probably more, if they just re-used the 501st clones from the last set. *Ducks down to avoid flying objects in my direction* EDIT: I will say, though, I understand annoyance with getting another 501st pack so quickly after the last one, my guess as to why it went 501st is probably because - the last one sold well - clones with color are more visually appealing than plain white clones, especially to casual buyers/kids - there aren't really that many legions that we could realistically get a BP for. Other than the 501st, there's the 212th (already in a set this year, so I would assume they didn't want to double up on those yet), Kashyyyk troopers (cool looking, but not sure if they'd be more appealing than the 501st to a general consumer), 332nd (would definitely have been cool), 327th (I would've liked to get this, but if given the option between 501st and 327th, I feel like the 501st is more recognizable), or Wolfpack (I would absolutely love this, but I feel like it's never going to happen since TCW ended). Point being, I agree that it would've been nice to get a different legion, but I feel like writing this BP off strictly because it's slightly different 501st clones doesn't make sense to me personally. -

I feel like it's a very "case by case basis" sort of thing. I do think there's some merit to the argument that having two on shelves at the same time would cannibalize sales of at least one, but it would mainly be a problem if both products launched at the same time, and I think that would only be a problem for certain vehicles. With respect to the AT-AT and Falcon being on shelves as both a UCS and regular model, they're so far apart in price that it's a non-factor. The average consumer and/or kid going for the playscale model at $160 isn't the target consumer at all for the person that will drop $800 for a LEGO set, so having an enormous one on the shelves at the same time as a regular one isn't really a big deal. With the Falcon especially, it's iconic enough to where they could put it out at the same time as a playscale Falcon and both would still sell, partially due to the price difference, but also just because it's popular enough to always have one on shelves. With the X-Wing, it's probably the most famous SW vehicle (either that or the Falcon, I would say?), so having a large display version for $200 and a playscale version for $40-50 doesn't really matter too much, both will sell well because of the popularity (as evidenced by the fact that the playscale version has been on the shelves since January of 2021, when several sets from the summer of 2021 have already retired). Again, it's also important to have the cheaper one for kids or average consumers who want something with minifigures and that's more play-centric, as opposed to the larger one aimed more at adults who grew up on the OT, or hardcore LEGO fans. With respect to the Gunship, I feel like the UCS vs. playscale version thing would only be an issue if they launched both at the same time. I feel like the demand for a playscale Gunship is actually higher than a UCS one (I have no evidence to support this, but at least online, more people seem to be interested in a minifigure scale model), so if they put out a $160 one and a $400 at the same time, I would guess more people would gravitate towards the cheaper one with more minifigures (probably including some desirable clone) and more playability over the large display model. Again, that's just my conjecture based on what I've seen from various social media outlets and boards. In this case, though, the Gunship's already been out for a while (and must've sold pretty well, as there are several other UCS models that retired sooner in recent memory), so I feel like launching a playscale version wouldn't matter. I'd guess by now that most people who wanted the UCS Gunship have purchased it, so I don't think having a smaller one would really cannibalize sales of the big one. We also saw this with the Razor Crest, where the small one was out for about a year, and then the UCS one was launched. I'm also guessing that the small one has sold incredibly well, because I believe it's still available, and it also must've signaled that it was worth making the first non-movie UCS model (even before we got any sequel based D2C sets! Like, if you told me we'd be getting a UCS Razor Crest before a Kylo Ren helmet, I don't think I would've believed you). -
Was wondering if anyone had suggestions/advice or possibly even knew the answer to this: I didn't love Bad Batch Season 1, just though it was kinda meh overall, so I wasn't particularly inclined to buy a $100 set just to get the Bad Batch minifigures. Season 2 came out and I've been liking it a lot more to where I've been thinking "Hm, it would be cool to have the minifigures," especially as I'm concerned this will get the Rebels treatment of "sets during the run of the show and then literally nothing ever again" except I'm not even sure if we'd get anything after the Justifier retires. Of course, I made this decision three months after the Bad Batch shuttle retired. I've scoured basically every site I can find, and nowhere seems to have it in stock, whether it's a big box retailer or smaller toy store (and believe me, I've checked websites for probably 50+ toy stores around the US, and somehow almost every single one still has some retired LEGO, but not a single one has the shuttle). I've got a few toy stores locally that I might check, because none have websites, but I can't remember if I've ever seen them selling large sets like that. I'm happy to pay retail price, I just don't want to pay eBay/Bricklink prices, which are now $120-140 (plus shipping). Does anyone know of any stores in the US that might still sell it where I could order from? Or even any LEGO-specific toy stores online that might still have it in stock? I've checked a couple that I know of, but none had it.

I don't think there's really any rhyme or reason to how many minifigures we get with ships, it's pretty much all over the place. The only real patterns seem to be that we tend to get at least two (regardless of the ship size), and that every "seat" can be filled (if there's two cockpit seats plus space for a droid, they'll provide enough to fit there, or if it's a ship + two speeders, there's enough to pilot everything at once). But, the $40-50 X-Wing has four figures (two that you can directly interact with the ship, Luke and R2, and two side characters, Leia and Dodonna), while the $160 Justifier also has four figures plus Todo 360, even though the $160 Imperial Light Cruiser had 5 figures plus Grogu. Then you've got the Grievous starship, which was $80 and came with three figures, despite being $20 less than the Bad Batch ship, that came with five figures plus Gonky. Point being, I think we can safely assume each ship will have one pilot, and it seems like a reasonable conjecture that the Fang Fighter will follow the pattern of the last two Gauntlet fighters that each had space for two figures in the cockpit, which would suggest a second Mandalorian figure. Other than that, I feel like the best case is to expect three minifigures and be pleasantly surprised if we get more. -

To be fair, Promobricks basically words everything like that. Like, even stuff that’s really obvious and you don’t need to really be an insider to figure out, they still tend to do that. When they put out info saying they were revealing a Mando set this week, their post said something like “it might be based on Ep 2” when it was pretty obviously going to be. -

I don't remember any of the sets being particularly difficult to find (with the exception of Peril in Peru, which I believe was a TRU exclusive? So it was "difficult" in the sense that not everywhere carried it). I actually got my 7623 (the original Idol Temple set) on clearance at the LEGO store, though I think it was very deep into that set's production run (i would wager a guess I bought it in either the fall of 2009 or spring of 2010). However, there was definitely a lot more hype from LEGO about the release of the sets. I remember a 2008 catalog having Indy on the cover and the initial wave of sets being the first things featured, there were also some Comic-Con exclusives, a Brickmaster polybag tie in, and a video game. There was definitely a lot of excitement about the original wave that hasn't been present here. I'm more just confused than anything. I'm not upset with LEGO or anything, but it's really just odd if it truly will be only these three sets and nothing else. I know KotCS wasn't well-liked, but that didn't really change anyone's perspective on the old movies, and I think James Mangold's successes as a director lead a lot of people (myself included) to believe that this will end up being a good conclusion to the Indy saga, so I don't think it's a "the movie won't do well." I also just straight up refuse to believe the theories people are throwing around that "they're afraid of the set content being controversial." First off, if that were the case, there's no way they'd let people spread leaked pictures of the ToD set. Unlike the Osprey or dynamite factory situation, there were no official pictures circulating, the only official proof circulating was just the not-updated descriptions that mentioned ToD. LEGO had no reason to let those pictures get circulated further by LAN members if they truly were concerned with the content being controversial. So...if the DoD sets truly aren't coming, what caused it? -

I feel like in general, 99% of Instagram or YouTube "leakers" aren't reliable sources at all. There are individuals that have gotten things right in the past, and then been completely off the mark on stuff later on. Then there's the people who just repost/re-report rumors from IG/Eurobricks, and then it becomes a game of telephone where Eurobricks/IG then takes that as "fact" and suddenly in six months, when a set doesn't include Clone Commander Poop, everyone is confused about where that idea came from in the first place. To be honest, there's a little over a handful of people/accounts with insider information that I think you can actually trust to be accurate and not just making BS up for the sake of clicks, and pretty much all of them reside on EB. Granted, I know there's a few people who typically only report on SW stuff, which is the only theme I really follow leaks for anyway, so not sure outside of SW. -
