2022 - Volvo FH500
MCD replied to MCD's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That's a valid point, it hadn't really bothered me but I could look at better options. Wedges would be no good as they have Studs which would ruin the look I think? Do you have any suggestions on which parts? Thanks for that, it seems to have really worked out - lucky the selection of Lego parts allows for such a close match. Not all trucks work so well in this scale. -
2022 - Volvo FH500
MCD replied to MCD's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Ha... Yes! Damit 😂 Well spotted.. Oh well, if thats all ive done wrong? Thanks buddy 👍 Thank, glad you recognise that, spent ages agonising and trying to fit in half stud adjustments... -
Hi all, after the great response in the recreation of my Volvo F16 It was time to do something bang up to date. I'm a massive fan of Marco's #Technicprojects Volvo FH. In fact I have a few, so I decide to tackle a 2022 facelift FH500. This truck is a 100% new construction, and I feel a great evolution. I will be doing instructions soon and they will be hosted on my Rebrickable page. #mcd_technic I'm personally very happy with how it turned out, designing in Studio allowed me to really sense check it before ordering bricks. I went for LBG in colourway to pick out the modern lines of the silver 2022 launch trucks. But this can also be built in DBG, White, Orange and Possible Red - Pending availability of SP3 parts. The wheels, by the way I spray myself with a chrome hobby paint. This is the Studio model (from which I will now refine build order and generate instructions) And here you can see it with one of my F16s in the same scale, 34 years between these two trucks: And finally with Marco's Original stunning FH - But rebuilt in white: Thanks for looking! Hope you like! Mike

[MOC] Liebherr LTM 1070 4.2
MCD replied to Dawid Boczek's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Absolutely stunning! Love how neat all the features are and it looks bang on for scale and proportion! Cant stop looking at the pictures? Its great. -
Funnily enough... that was one of my inspirations! I thought about building the chassis legs up like that... but ended up with a cleaner look as wanted to keep the 42128 stabilsers. Thanks... yes it does look and feel bigger, essentially although shorter it is generally bigger as alot more mass up front.
-
Thought i's share my latest and final incarnation of this great model, so it Started with a brand new boxed 42128 and a bit of planning with a 'bricklink' order: Much as I liked this build, I just couldn't get on with the American front end, it just didn't hold the detail for me! I initially thought about adding a Mack Anthem Cab for a bit more detail. But in the end opted to use a variation on my Scania G370 C model: All original recovery truck features work as normal, although I have relocated the rotator 6 stud forward and added additional gearing. The whole model is 4 stud shorted. Twin steering works on HOG and CAB doors open, plus it has an engine linked up to the original drive train. There you have it... really pleased with the one! Its a bit heavy and has a really healthy 2815 part count.. but its go an impressive look I feel? Thanks Mike

Simply Sublime! The attention to detail is breath-taking! I particularly like the back end detailing, its spot on and often an area over looked! You've certainly studied your subject with this one.

Wow! Thanks for such a positive response, sorry I haven't come back sooner, been away all weekend. @The01 Thanks and glad you like the individual trucks... I have way too many now! @GerritvdG Glad you enjoyed the details and pictures.. thanks @1gor Oh yes.. got to get the engineering tool if the builds worth doing! @phmzt Yes the lime Green was always a bit toy like in the end... now looks more proffessional. @efferman Real compliment from you :) Yes not many have tackled the ford... now I see why!?! @karmadrome Thanks for appreciating the presentation.. took ages! @nerdsforprez Im not to great on the video side of things... what would you like to see? i can try... @ludovisser Thankyou @Gray Gear Thanks... yes needed to be all my own design for sure...

[MOC] Motorized Garbage Truck
MCD replied to mihao's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
So cool! love the mechanisms, the scale and proportions look spot on! -
I've been wanting to share this one properly for a while now. I know quite a few people may know this MOC as I released it to www.rebrickable.com in late 2020. Since then its had a very subtle refresh and accent colour change. As a bit of background those who know me know I tend to focus mainly on 1:21 trucks based on the 30.4x20mm wheel with either a 49.5mm or 43.2mm dictating the scale. With quite a growing collection I had started 'stacking' trucks in my cabinets! While browsing the web I happened upon the following picture: I just couldn't stop looking at it! What an amazing truck and setup! So after a lot of research I discovered this version was built by FVG in Germany. These trucks are huge with an adjustable length drawbar, various adjustable platforms and an ultralow body line to allowing trucks to be carried within European height restrictions. More digging and I was able to find a schematic in a brochure which I was able to import to CAD and start some rough scaling for Lego: Basing this around 49.5mm up front and 43.2mm at the rear I was able to start planning the build. It became quickly apparent the chassis needed to be as low as 4 stud off the ground and I needed to fit quite a lot of actuators in there... challenge on! The build originally started out with the stunning Volvo FH cab designed by Marco aka 'Technicprojects' However as I wanted this to be 100% my own design, I had to quickly develop my own cab, I opted for the Ford Fmax you see in the following images. I'm not sure I've 100% captured it... but it still looks a great truck: The model comprises 6 x small and 1 x large Actuator. The Trailer is detachable with extendible draw bar and the whole truck features 18 wheels. The cab is fitted with HOG steering and to note! - all the wheels move freely and the truck can be moved around even when loaded - and with no chassis sag!! I can now show you the loading process: 1. THE DRAWBAR IS SHORTENED AND THE TRAILER FRONT PLATFORM IS LEVELLED TO THE FRONT UNIT TO FORM A LOADING BRIDGE: 2. THE BACK PLATFORM IS LOWERED TO CREAT DRIVE ON RAMP: As you can see, the truck can drive over the platform bridge, this has an additional support leg you can drop down for this purpose. 3. NOW THE FRONT UNIT PLATFORM CAN BE RAISED, TRAILER FRONT PLATFORM DROPPED AND DRAWBAR EXTENDED: 4. WE CAN NOW LOAD THE SECOND TRUCK - NOTE THE TRAILER FRONT RAMP IS NOW NOSED DOWN TO BRING THE CAB UNDER HEIGHT RESTRICTIONS 5. THE MAIN PLATFORM CAN NOW RAISE TO FURTHER NOSE THE CAB AND PROVIDE ROOM FOR THE LAST TRUCK 6. WE CAN NOW BACK THE LAST TRUCK ON - YES ITS NORMAL FOR THEM TO HANG OFF THE BACK LIKE THIS - AND THIS MODEL WILL HOLD IT FINE: And that's about it! Fully loaded! There are a range of clip on 15L wheel supports and the various platforms have pinholes installed to accommodate. The 'liftarm's' are 'knitted' in construction so the model is very strong. Also all pivots are offset so platforms can level flush. The trucks used are the Volvo FH & Mercedes Actros Designed by 'Technicprojects' which I have built in White and the grey truck is my recent Scania G370 MOC based on the Mack Anthem. Interestingly, because I followed the scale tightly, every truck model built in this scale sits perfectly and all platforms can adjust to suit many combinations (more down the post) I've had great fun with this model! Below are some various pictures over evolution, some including the Volvo Cab which now lives on the 4x2 Chassis above. You can also see some of the other carry combos possible! Looking on line these FVG trucks can carry rigids and also tractors in various combinations. Some also have a 'helper' axle making the front unit a 6x2. I tried this, but didn't like it as the wheel jammed on the chassis: That's it really! Thanks for looking, hope you enjoyed the build details and pictures? Any questions or comments? please let me know! Mike

42128 - Heavy-Duty Tow Truck
MCD replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Bit late to the party on this one.. This is may take on #42128! From the start I liked the overall concept and features, just a little bit 'toy like' in the styling for my tastes. So work has been to equal up the front end by filling in the headlight gaps and building a thicker bumper. I've also lowered the side tanks 1 stud and evened the area under the controls. This all balances the visually lighter front end out! Other details include a matched sleeper panel; rear arches filled ; bits of tiling and of course.. the colour change! What do you think? -
@Rebel_Lego That's what ive seen then! theres quite a few pictures floating around the web of the nextgen with a nose! @Void_S Thank, learn't something new, as above thought they still made them, but its not official Scania!
-
Ha.. yes I see that now too! I think it would be quite possible to evolve the design into a T series. They do the Torpedo on the current model still I believe?
-
Yes! I know another C model based on the Mack Anthem, but this is such a versatile set, especially for truck lovers. This is my second C model, the first being the Iveco Stralis 10x4 Grab Wagon. (I'm user 'Mcd_technic' on Rebrickable) This time I wanted to further maximise the part count, managing to using 2366/2595. This model was built from a 2nd hand Anthem set I picked up locally in great condition. I completely built this (many times) in real before turning to Studio to refine it. The result is a C model packed with features and 'hopefully' a great build experience? So this is it, my Scania R370 with twin Axle Grab Crane trailer, lots of working features and as much as 'is possible' a scaled 1:21 reproduction? Challenging when limited to the #42078 kit parts! You really have to get creative with the various combinations. The renders have turned out really well, give a real sense of the original Mack Anthem kit. Note: the Mack brand plate now on the crane! The crane has three point adjustment as well as a working grab head, I even managed to use that spare steering wheel by mounting a driver control on the main arm. Getting a good pivot was a challenge without the part needed being in the set, but it works well. Also included are working stabilisers, feet and drop sides. The trailer also features working landing gear and the cab has a 5th wheel arrangement similar to the Anthems. Roof removed - The cab itself has HOG steering, opening doors and a working Engine.. nothing over fancy, similar to the Concrete mixer format, it works on the drive train and I have dressed it a bit with some of the engine detail bricks. That's about it.. hope you like this one? I really think I've exhausted the Mack Anthem now? This is my Iveco Stralis for those who haven't seen it: I think now I will get back into the full MOC building... Thanks, Mike aka #mcd_technic

Volvo F16 8x4 & 6x2 in the 1:21 Scale
MCD replied to MCD's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks for the further kind comments, I'm working on instructions to add to 6x2 version to the already existing 8x4 instructions on Rebrickable. Regarding the 49,5x14 tyres? The jury is out at this time... I don't have an issue with the current tyres... makes the truck look nice and chunky when doubled up! Thanks, Mike -

MCD replied to MCD's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@Sebeus I Hi, yes I've seen your FH before... its stunning! I have quite the passion for Volvo trucks as you can see from the transporter pic just above! I will be trying some other Volvo truck variants soon... -
Volvo F16 8x4 & 6x2 in the 1:21 Scale
MCD replied to MCD's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thankyou all for your positive responses! I feel really overwhelmed, perhaps I should have shared my creations sooner... always been nervous to post? @drdesignz Thankyou especially for putting me on the Lego Car Blog! That's awesome! In regards to the other comments, I do have an obsessive eye for detail so save for mechanical functions I haven't really the interest in power functions! For me motors and battery boxes rob the aesthetics'! That said they are the same scale as the Mack Anthem, Concrete Mixer and New Tow truck so no reason why they couldn't be made RC? The 8x4 version of the Volvo is on rebrickable.com and a few have built it... not seen RC yet? Regarding trailers, I have 4 at current but have plans for more, I also have a few rigids and there is my working model of a European truck transporter by FVG: I'm also rather passionate about getting the photos right and have quite an Instagram following... again all started since Covid! My wife thinks I'm bonkers but its a great hobby. Anyway, thanks again for you great interest and warm welcome everyone! I will certainly start some more posts on other models soon.. Mike -
Volvo F16 8x4 & 6x2 in the 1:21 Scale
MCD replied to MCD's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@Milan Wow!!! Thankyou so much..... (blushing emoji!) @proran Great comment, thankyou so much! Glad you like the integration, I think its the only way to get the detail? plus earlier trucks lend themselves a little more towards system? I'm also particularly pleased with the grill, took a lot of head scratching that one... definitely something Studio helped to solve! @GerritvdG Nail on the head.. that is the beauty of Lego for me, thankyou.
