1. *laughs in western Europe* Coincidentally, I just noticed that Sariel posted a video making exactly the same case, namely that for new molds and colors, Bricks & Pieces is the place to go. He also solves my puzzlement regarding sky high BrickLink prices for those same pieces, namely that TLG won't sell you large quantities thereof, if they suspect you're just gonna be reselling them.
2. Definitely do contact the store and ask what's up. If they don't respond, ask again and say you'll open a dispute with AliExpress. AliExpress is the platform that connects stores to costumers, but they do offer some guarantees, which can be exercised through the dispute mechanism, which the stores seem to be wary of, at last in my experience. YMMV of course. What is definitely NOT reputable is the quality and lifetime of products bought through AliExpress. Definitely don't give toys bought from AliExpress to your children, as they may contain toxic materials or unsafe construction (swallowing danger). The higher prices for local western products are partly due to all the safety regulations and enforcement thereof that we have. Reputable as in safe for your wallet? Sure. But not safe for your health, and not safe for the planet either (free shipping from across the world is a terrible thing; leads to lots of small packages with packaging material being sent around... so much pollution).
3. See also this MOC by @Didumos69 for some hints on aftermarket springs.
4. So awesome! I don't recall where I got this, but did you say you're using this car as a platform for comparing old Danish buggy motors with new Chinese ones?
5. Just made a quick proof of concept that the tapered panel will work. We're looking here at the inside of the left door. The small #21 panel in front of the door is fixed quite well, doesn't feel flimsy at all.
6. Just to be clear, I meant this part: https://rebrickable.com/parts/18945/technic-panel-5-x-11-x-1-tapered/ It's not 2 studs wide, however it lacks connection points at the tapered side, which could be problematic. I'll be building your MOC this spring, so I'll be finding out then how silly my suggestion was!
7. Some more nitpicking on this truly awesome creation... Regarding the side view, I was wondering if the 5x11 red panel in the door looks a bit too chunky. Have you considered or tried using a tapered 5x11 panel? Such that the bottom right corner would be shaved off. Perhaps the #21 panel in front of it could then be a #4 panel? I'm just hypothesizing from this one photo, without having considered if this'd work vis-à-vis connection points... Please excuse me if this is all just silly.
8. Indeed, Bricks & Pieces is the best way to get larger numbers of novel pieces. I never understood why BrickLink stores sell novel pieces at very high prices. They're not scarce or hard to get. Unless you live in a country not served by Bricks & Pieces.
9. Recently bought 42043 (Mercedes Benz Arocs) for the equivalent of 80 US$ through local online market place. Was built just once by an adult. Perfect condition, pristine building instructions. Me happy. :)
10. Sorry for resurrecting your old thread, @Erik Leppen! I got very interested in the virtual model of this MOD, but couldn't find a link in this thread, on your website, or anywhere else. (Maybe I'm just going blind...) Can you share it?
11. I feel ya! I'm currently in the "more bricklink'ing than building" phase. Your admission gives me hope and strength to put an end to this! Looking forward to entering the "enjoyment" phase asap
12. I tend to agree, although official Lego sets such as 8458 (Silver Champion) and 8674 (Ferrari F1) are using the exact same setup. I recently acquired the 8458 (20 years old!) second-hand and the yellow connectors were still fine...
13. I'm 100% sure I'm not the only one interested! Anything you can share here for all will be greatly appreciated by the community!
14. I seem to be experiencing a bug. To replicate, try: - select any motor (say PF M) - select any gears on first row (say 8t driver and 8t follower) - select differing gears on second row (say 8t driver and 16t follower) Result (using latest updates): upon selecting the second follower gear, RPM shoots up from 405 to 3164. When I first tried the app in early December RPM was calculated correctly, but now it seems way off. Aside from the RPM issue, it's a great and useful app!
15. Actually the CLAAS tyres work fine on the A model with only minor adjustment. At the front, remove the 2 red #5 connectors under the headlights. That's all. Full suspension and steering will work. At the rear, you need only to reshape the fenders a bit, to make them a bit wider. The CLAAS tyres will not hit the tipping bed at all. I think it looks great with CLAAS tyres, although it becomes more of a monster truck than pick-up truck...
16. Is there any chance of seeing building instructions, or just a virtual model, of this amazing beast, at any time in the future?
17. Awesome stuff! I'm an AI researcher myself and we have quite a few Lego enthusiasts in the lab, so your video is doing the rounds here!
18. Sorry for being late to the party! While you were all having fun building this beauty, I was still deep in my dark age. Time to catch up! After finishing the car with 1x BuWizz, I was left with 2 gaps on either side of the car (meant for the lipo batteries). I thought it would be nice to install in these gaps a compressor and door selector, such that those stunning doors can be opened remotely. See the result below:
