  1. I was never entertaining the thought of buying this model. I was only interested in it to see what new internal connectors or other useful parts it might introduce. But now that I see it might be in lime... Oh boy did I jump on the hype train!
  2. But a company has no interest in seeing you grow as a builder. They want to see you grow as a buyer. And with "you" I mean the generic plural.
  3. In fact, until yesterday there existed only 1 type of panel in Dark Green, which appeared in Bionicle set 8941 in 2008.
  4. Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but I feel this super fun model has not received enough love! Even on Rebrickable there were no fan photos yet. So I added some myself.
  5. My reaction is: "I agree wholeheartedly", not "thanks for the complement", because I did not design the bodywork, R. Skittle did. I only take credit for the effort of reverse-engineering it from his Flickr album and providing y'all with building instructions (in full knowledge & support from R. Skittle). Indeed, one of the main reasons for me to build it in red was so that I could make this comparison with set 42056 (alas I don't have 2 of them!). It's striking indeed that they are comparable in size, given that the Mantis contains only 40% as many pieces as the Porsche GT3 RS.
  6. Cheers! Indeed my first attempt was using regular CV-joints (between differential and wheel hubs) but they soon turned to pulp. Or, in more lucky cases, they just disengaged upon full-power acceleration. Then I tried the new CV-joints from set 42099 and they have held up fine. That's the setup that is also used now in the instructions on Rebrickable.
  7. You are wrong. Maybe the camera is being tilted a bit. This short street section is definitely flat. But for sure it's hard to find any flat surface here in the Italian Alps. Only thing nearby is a basketball court, but it's been locked due to corona. I really want to shoot better racing footage asap... Anyway, such acceleration shouldn't be hard to believe? We're talking 4 PF Large motors, geared UP 2.142x, powered by 2x BuWizz in Ludicrous mode, in a model of only 1686 grams (see scale above)..... Here's a picture of the drivetrain from @Madoca 1977's Icarus supercar, which I borrowed:
  8. Awesomeness! Many thanks for taking that liberty, this is a great honor!
  9. I just realized that, with a small recoloring, one can turn the Mantis into a Lobster.... I'll show myself out...
  10. No need to throw the towel. I was merely "solving" a single issue you raised, by pointing out that the scope of the eurobricks site need not be speculated on, since it's clearly described in the guidelines.
  11. The guidelines are rather clear on the matter though:
  12. Obviously, MOCing is the mechanics 101 class I never attended...
  13. I guess I was counting on both wheels to have super traction with the ground...
  14. Say we're building a racing car that's going to be fast and do lots of cornering on flat surfaces. And say we also don't want any problems in the drivetrain with gears skipping or grinding. I had this brain fart of replacing the differential by a linear clutch, like so: Is there anything obviously stupid or wrong with such a gear-free solution? (I suspect yes, because I haven't seen anyone else use this construction, but I don't really see the problem, yet...)
  15. You are right of course. Especially the chrome rims are overkill haha! Personally I just like shiny things, what can we do... But fear not! The inventory & instructions on Rebrickable are using the original orange & black parts from set 42056 (the Porsche 911 GT3 RS).
  16. Free building instructions are now available on Rebrickable! Thanks again to @Rudivdk for pointing me toward LPub3D, which did the job.
  17. I keep coming back to this entry. It's just so lovely! And it's seems you've increased realism by getting it extra dusty...
  18. This. I too made a very large jump: my last set before dark ages was 8880, then in 2019 I woke up and started gathering the pieces -- most of them I'd never seen before! -- to build Madoca's Icarus supercar. If you've ever built the Icarus, you may be able to imagine how it boggled and blew my mind! From 8880 straight to Icarus, my exact feeling was: "Technic is dead, long live Technic"!
  19. My feeling is this MK model is based on a work-in-progress that somehow leaked from Lego. Exhibit A: we were promised a new tapered version of the 3x13 panel, which I don't see here. Exhibit B: the new panels seem like placeholders of unfinished sections.
  20. Wasn't the Lego Lamborghini supposed to include a new tapered variant of the 3x13 panel (#18944)? I see at least 3 news panels in the MK picture but none fitting this description.
  21. I only emerged from 25 years of Dark Ages in 2019, so I have a bunch of non-shiny Technic from the nineties, plus a bunch of rather new Technic gathered over the last year. According to the original designer, it's "Inspired by the Vanda Dendrobium and the Hyundai N2025 Vision GT". And yes the car contains only ~1200 parts. Basically, it's the powertrain from @Madoca 1977's brilliant Icarus supercar, covered in a bunch of the largest Technic panels available, making it (almost) comparable in size to the orange Porsche (set 42056). There is no interior. The only "gimmick" is the airbrake. Despite all the power functions it weighs less than 1700 grams. So yes, when you send 12V through those 4 L motors, the acceleration is something to behold.
  22. That looks so much fun! Let me ask the inevitable question: Any chance of building instructions or virtual model to be published?
