Trying to decide...
Gumalca replied to Snazzy Bricks's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Of course I don't know what the Jeep will offer. And yes the Corvette does not have suspension and the Senna will not have too. But for me the Porsche is not more technical interesting than 42037 for example, and that is less than 1/3 of parts. But if you like Porsches and like the set's look (me not so much, I don't like the headlights) than go for it. -
Technic 2021 Set Discussion
Gumalca replied to LvdH's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
If you know the prices for the Control+ parts (does Lego already sell them separately? I don't know or care.) and then subtract them from the price, I'm sure you end up with 10 cent per piece for the rest of parts or even less. What is so hard to understand from the fact that motors, hubs and stuff cost more than 10 cent each? -
Trying to decide...
Gumalca replied to Snazzy Bricks's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I waited until the reviews of 42096 were published ... and then bought 42077. I see no point in the 42096 set. If you really like cars my advice would be to rather wait for the Jeep or Senna next year. There are good reasons to hope the Jeep will be more technical advanced than 42096. Or if you prefer looks then wait for the Senna. 42112 also felt a bit boring. Same price point as 42108 but less functions. I would actually choose 42081. It's the most technical set out of the three, and we are talking about Technic sets right? -
Technic 2021 Set Discussion
Gumalca replied to LvdH's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Never 1374. It's the successor to 42109 which had 463 pieces. That's still 89 less for 42124, but it's within the expected range. I think there is a big tan gear at the back of the cabin for steering. While I do believe that it will have suspension, I'm more concerned about a fake engine. Because if it really has live axle suspension there won't be much space under the hood for a fake engine, as the model is really not big. Independent suspension would leave more room for a fake engine. -
Technic 2021 Set Discussion

There have been similar or smaller sized sets with suspension on all wheels: 42037, 42005, 9392, 8048. If the Jeep has suspension that would also partly explain why the Senna has a higher part count for the same price. Unless the money all goes into the Jeep licence, but I think that's unlikely because the Defender had a fair price for being licenced. -

I thought about that one too, but didn't mention it, because I hope in the polybag model the rotors will be connected. My opinion too! I only bought 42102 and 42108 from this year which is less than usual for me. But from next wave there are at least 5 models that I'm interested in! -

Thanks for the info! The helicopter from 42064 had 84 pieces. With a bit of simplification this could be reduced to about 60. Something like this seems perfectly reasonable as a polybag. -

That's right. There have been several cases where models were changed after the prelim pictures. For example the dump truck from 42023 ended up looking significantly different. Or 42039. -

Let's hope not. Why would they cancel Speed Champions, I think it's quite popular? Friends, Classic and Duplo haven't leaked also. -
Technic 2021 Set Discussion
Gumalca replied to LvdH's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
My opinion too. They probably have started with development already, but I don't think they have made a definite colour choice already, or know which panels exactly are needed. So to speculate that the leaked sets, that were designed more than half a year ago, were influenced by what panels the 2022 super car needs, is pretty far fetched. -

This part requires studded bricks underneath, or do I remember that wrong? So I guess it's unlikely. But on the other hand the 4L gear rack is always coming back into technic sets. I wonder why they haven't made a studless gear rack that can be extended seamlessly. -

Looks like there is a new panel at the front of the Senna and Jeep, and probably at the side of the Senna. A middle section for panel 21 and 22? -

Leaks are on Instagram and they all look awesome. Especially the Senna is a big step forward from the Corvette. -
LEGO Creator 2021 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
Gumalca replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Creator leaks are on Instagram. Except for the drone. Nothing really catches my eye, maybe the bike. The lion has flimsy legs and a brutal looking face that looks like every dragon or dino face ever. Really bad compared to 4884. The giraffe from the Safari tree house could be cute actually. -
BMW 42063 mod disappearing
Gumalca replied to Miragent's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Maybe ask user nemooz, I can see on archive.org he had a now deleted moc called BMW GS 1200 Adventure (MOC-5777). https://rebrickable.com/users/MOC NEMOOZ/profile/ Then I found this Flickr with this similar looking bike: https://www.flickr.com/photos/29785585@N08/albums/72157678796856414 -

I think so too, but interestingly there has been only one 40 EUR or below set with a MLA so far: 42061. -

I don't think these prices are really confirmed. The Jeep has 140 pieces less and will cost the same? Maybe the Senna has tracks ... just joking -
42113 Replacement Set Petition
Gumalca replied to SNIPE's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I think one problem is that in one year there will be knockoffs available. The normal approach of Lego is to keep sets secret until the release, so they have some time ahead. But in the case of a late re-release the competition would be right there from the start, so it might not be worth it. On the other hand it's going to bug them if they just leave the model to the knockoffs completely. -
But there isn't much space to fix the issue. They can remove the gear box and make a manual version. That's how I would have preferred it in the first place
-
They would just announce to be reusing bricks that they've already produced. They can drop the advertisement of the Osprey completely. You can build a tank out of every Lego set, but no sane person would ever make an accusation out of that.

A really good idea. To expand on it: Lego could invite 10 renowned Technic alternate designers from the community for a week long workshop to Denmark. Supervised by grohl they will work on several B-models and the best becomes the new A-model. Daily video streams of the progress are shared and everything becomes a big event for the community. Normally sets are developed behind closed doors, but since the cat is out of the bag already in this case they might involve the community and thereby gain something out of the debacle.

42112 Concrete Mixer Truck
Gumalca replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
These images are staged anyway. I don't know about this one, but normally they don't show a state that would happen somewhere along the building steps. So they start with an assembled set for the photo shooting and then partially disassemble it for a shot like this. Probably they disassembled a bit too far, and then fixed it without looking at the instructions. And they are likely in a hurry too because time is money. Overall this is a minor issue compared to the case where a winter village set was missing part of the roof, on the front cover of a catalogue. -
42097 - Retirement
Gumalca replied to Fuzzock's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yes this one I remember too. Also 31085 from the Creator range, lasted just half a year. So it's not uncommon and seems to follow demand. -
42110 - Land Rover Defender
Gumalca replied to 1gor's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
My guess is it could be something with the new bevel gears. I have the Landover gears lying next to the Corvette gears, and they look different, they have a different grip on axles, and most important they interact differently. While building with the new gears I've come across configurations that don't run smoothly that never used to be a problem before. There is a thread about these issues here too. Maybe the model was designed with the old gears and worked fine then? -
42110 - Land Rover Defender
Gumalca replied to 1gor's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yes, you just have to remove all 4 universal joints that connect the front with the back and replace them with two gears. Then you will have neutral, reverse and two speeds.
