There are so many fantastic works in this contest (including your tow truck . About engine cylinders: I totally agree that this method would never pass quality control in an official Lego set. But as already discussed in this thread - I did not find a more compact version of the engine. Your engine design is very similar and the design of the cylinders differs only in that they do not have these half-bushings installed. On the other hand, even in official Lego sets, there are parts that constantly fall off when playing. During this build, I had already reattached the rear view mirrors, lights and wheels many times. But believe it or not, these cylinders have not fallen off even once since installation. Well, I do not pretend to be an official set or a candidate for Lego ideas. This is just a building for a competition from an inexperienced builder About actuators. The actuator mechanism itself does its job well. They raise the fully extended boom from the low position. The weakest point of the entire assembly are two gearboxes. It is in them that the gears begin to crack when the critical load is reached. It is impossible to make the transfer even lower - the functions are already working very slowly. But this is what I was ready for when choosing this set. But the crane can perform its minimal functions: it lifts the wall of the house from the set (in scale) in all positions. As I wrote earlier, in order for the crane to do more - I will rebuild it after this competition.

I took a photo of the finished model. Of the last changes - changed the gear for the winch, because the work was very slow. Added stickers from the original set. All functions have been tested. Some work quite slowly, but this way there is less stress on the transmission. Later I will measure what maximum weight it can hold in two positions of the boom (before the model starts to damage or tip over). There will be a video later. I hope you enjoy the result.

Thanks for your feedback. I started with this, but then refused for two reasons: 1. The length of the wide part of the boom where a 3x11 panel can fit - 28 studs. 2 panels - too short, 3 - too long. Still had to add other parts. 2. the bottom of the crane boom where these panels would start was the weak point. And there is concentrated maximum load. And I'm not sure that 3x11 panels that are not fixed on top with another liftarm will be a stronger structure than a row of three liftarms. After all, at the junction of the panels, only 1 liftarm will hold the entire weight. I will test it under load. If there's a problem, I might be able to secure the worm gear at the end of the boom more securely at the expense of looks.

The simplest part of the 42082 set: the crane - is ready. Now the hardest part is ahead - building a house. Since the last update, I have completely redone the top. Because the assembly of real bricks showed a weak point in one of the gears. There was also a lack of frame strength. In addition, I did not really like the previous appearance of the rear. Now the gearbox between the functions of the lower part and the functions of the crane boom is on the left side of the turntable (this made it possible to make a good frame in the upper part and did not affect the control in any way, because this gearbox is used only at the beginning and end of the game) A crane boom and a driver's cab were made (of course, it was not possible to make a side-sliding door on such a scale, but it opens ) Perhaps before the end of the competition I will still make minor cosmetic changes, but there will be no big adjustments. Ahead - the final assembly of real bricks and a photo session. Now I would like to share my impressions: 42082 was my first set after returning from the dark times and my first LEGO Technic set. Therefore, it was especially pleasant and interesting to create its alternative. My main goal was to try to keep all the functionality and principle of operation of the original set and make it as similar as possible (actually, which is the task of the contest). But in order to achieve this, a LOT of compromises had to be made. It uses assembly methods that would never be used in official Lego sets. Many elements work at the limit of their capabilities. For example - small actuators in the lower position of the boom. Yes, I could have placed them at a different angle to make things easier, but it wouldn't look right... Also, what works well with an electric motor, works much worse in manual mode. I'm talking about gearboxes. Let me remind you that any function of the crane works through 2 gearboxes. In the picture of the internal mechanisms, you can see the number of gears ... All this leads to a big backlash. The electric motor does the job better. It overcomes the backlash of the gears once at startup and then maintains rotation at the same speed. When you control your hands - backlash is present with every turn. Because of this, the functions work with great effort or jerks. Also from the point of view of the game - the location of the main control knob in the rotary part of the crane is not the best idea. For example, when turning the platform, you must simultaneously rotate the knob and move your hand. But as I said at the beginning, the main goal was not to create a convenient toy, but to set myself the goal of reducing the set as it is. But I really liked this "red baby" and I do not want to end this story on this. Therefore, immediately after sending the model to the competition, I want to make a MOC based on it. And make it as convenient, reliable and enjoyable to play as possible. I'll skip the first gearbox. As you advised me, I will remove the reverse function on the second gearbox. And I will give up everything that complicates the model, but does not make it better for the game. I'll be happy to share the result if you like it. But it's all ahead. And it's too early to relax. After all, a gray house is waiting for me ... And now the pictures (so far only a digital model)

Thanks for the feedback guys This gear only controls the steering. The outriggers and the turntable will be driven through the center axle in the turntable. The rotating element (engine replacement) that will need to be rotated and by which all mechanisms will be controlled will be located in the upper superstructure (the original set has an L-motor there) About the fake engine: this idea does not belong to me. This is the most compact V-engine I could find. Any other option with an axis length of 3 or more - does not fit inside. I understand that such a solution would never be applied in an official Lego set, but here it works (in fact, they have not fallen off even once, despite the fact that I constantly twist the model in my hands during assembly). I've lost wheels a few times on sharp turns, but the half-bushings stayed where they were :) About the location of the knob. My inner perfectionist was furious when I had to place it off-center . But due to the fact that the fake engine had to be exactly in the center - I could not find another solution. Because it controls only the rotation of the wheels - it does not need to be rotated much (the wheels make a full turn in half a turn of the knob). But if it becomes difficult when the top of the crane is added, I can easily move it a little further. In addition, here is the summary of tonight. Pre-placed all gears and gearboxes. Started designing the top.

After a long break, I'm ready to show the build progress. I had little time, but the task turned out to be much more difficult than it seemed in theory. When I started designing the bottom, I thought that just 2 features (outriggers and top rotation) shouldn't cause many problems. And I didn't worry at all about all-wheel drive with a fake motor hooked up and all four wheels turning. How wrong I was... When the time came for the actual assembly, I realized that there was absolutely not enough space. And the biggest problem was the four-wheel drive engine. I redid the design about 10 times until I managed to fit everything inside. At this point, I was very worried about the strength of the structure. Because there are areas where there are no beams at all, and the entire space is occupied by a gearbox and other gears. But when I finished the assembly - I calmed down. The construction is very solid. You can take one edge and even if you shake it, there will be no bends (the original model has a large bend in the center) So, the lower part is completely finished and has retained all the functions of the original model except for one (the opening tool boxes are dummies, because there is no storage space left inside). Now I moved on to designing the top.

so some progress I guess I was able to keep the functionality of the lower part of the original set. Now only the front part is assembled from real lego parts, and I hope that the rest will also be able to be assembled without any special "surprises" completed: - gear box driven from the top of the crane and controlled by switches on the sides like the original set (turret slewing and outrigger operation) - four-wheel drive with all swivel wheels with HOG in the back - fake engine to be continued ...

I am very surprised that I am the only one who has chosen the 42082 set so far, but I think this will change So, I chose the scale of the wheels 49.5mm. This will make the crane much smaller (about 2x) but keep all the features of the original (I hope to keep the gearbox of the original set, so that you can control the model with a single rotating element, which will be in place of the motor, but not sure if it will be enough yet place for it). I just started working, so I just created a dimensional layout that will show how much free space I have inside.

I recently finished building 42126 set for the first time. And I was very disappointed with its appearance. As if the designer was told to finish the set not in a month, but in one day, and he was in a hurry: so many holes in the body ..., strange body shapes in some places, the use of stickers instead of real parts. I also really wanted to add detail to the appearance of the car. So for the first time I decided to modify the official set and make a safari version out of it. My main task was to make this set look good on the shelf, so only the appearance changed. Here is what I did: 1) Completely abandoned stickers. Therefore, the front of the car with the grille and headlights were completely replaced. Yes, they do not exactly repeat the design of the headlights of the latest version of the Ford F-150, but I started from those parts that I had in stock. Also, the taillights are made from real parts. 2) Closed all the holes in the body. I slightly altered almost every part of the body. I also completely closed the floor in the cabin. 3) Because I stopped using stickers, I changed the body color scheme so that it doesn't look boring 4) Added a front bumper, similar to the one used in the police version of the Ford F-150, but with additional side protection. 5) Added a stiffening frame and an upper forwarding trunk 6) Replaced the front seats and rear-view mirrors 7) leaving the original engine, I added the rest of the necessary items under the hood.

Hi all. I'm new in sci-fi theme. So far, I have only participated in a few lego technic competitions. But I really liked the theme of this competition and I wanted to try to take part. So I have a few clarifying questions: 1) Is there any restriction on the use of system / technic parts? (I ask because there is such a restriction in the lego techniс theme) 2) I realized that there should be strict compliance with the color scheme of the chosen theme. I want to choose a Spyrius theme. It consists of two primary colors: Black and Red. And a small amount of "Dark gray" and "Light gray". Does this mean that I can use the main colors Black and Red. and a small amount of Dark Bluish Gray and Light Bluish Gray? As an example of that, what I'm asking about - I'll post my work, which was done for one of the past competitions in the lego technic forum. Is such a number of technc parts and such proportions of colors acceptable?
