LEGO Star Wars 2020 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Mandalorianknight replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Hopefully after TROS wave three, we get lots of sets based on what we missed during the film-a-year blitz that was 2015-2019. Not that I'm in any way complaining we got so many films, but lego can only do so many sets a year. It would be nice if they went back to rebels/solo/rogue one, although I think only the rogue one sets sold all too well.. I've been looking for arm printing to add to the mando pack, and i think the brown/silver mando would benefit from cyborg's arms from the DC cmf, in addition to the apocalypsburg legs previously mentioned by others. -
That's disappointing. especially since the legs are blank. This won't be enough to convince me to spend $50 on lego marvel come january, though the torso and helmet will probably look nice, a partially venomized suit would look wierd in my hall of armor. Slightly off-topic but I was looking at the dc figs and joker's torso and legs would be perfect for a custom kingpin minifigure.

These look really good! I particularly like how you managed to get the u-wing to have foldable wings at such a small scale.

"i was hoping for kenobi..." Forgot about season 7 sets being possible, I hope if we do get them we get multiple sets specifically for the Siege of Mandalore so we can get some more of maul's mandos. We're severely lacking in red mandos. (not that I'm complainining, as we've gotten figures of all red mandos really shown in canon, with the exception of saxon and kast from the son of dathomir comics.) -

The problem is the books are like $20. To me this is worse than buying a set just for the figures as instead of "I got "x" figures and a parts pack" it's "i got a single, really cool figure and a printout of brickset" -

It looks great, and as amazing as the torso print and mechanical legs are, I'm most excited that HE DOESNT HAVE THE CREEPY GRIN! It'll be great to have an accurate darth maul figure who doesn't look like he owns a white van. -
These look amazing! Somehow, with a smaller size, you managed to make a more detailed and accurate model than lego's playscale sets.

nice lor san tekka qoute. I agree, lego's trying to fix some of there past mistakes with these sets. I was just thinking about how the speeder got cut from the film. I didn't know the helmet problem was a widespread thing, I thought it was just a bad batch or something. -

I agree, it had very little screen time, and wasn't a neccesary set, much less one needed more than, say, a new tie bomber. -
And my point is that it's an interesting concept based on a good-looking design, perfect as a GWP precisely because it's not a vital variant. If this was scale suit cap or something you would be complaining about how since it's a GWP you'll have to spend $50-$75 on a "garbage" wave of sets just to get it. Somewhat true, except falcon's got the big wings, and even then black widow has the electric blue lines on her suit. My point is lego won't make a set with only civilian and/or tactical suits.
-
True, that would work pretty well. I think we'll end up seeing Black widow (both variations), Yelena, Red guardian, taskmaster, and a henchman or two. My reasoning is black widow has to be in every set, yelena seems to be really important to the plot, taskmaster is the main villian, and red guardian actually looks like a super-character, something this film lacks for the most part. (I like that it lacks wild costumes and whatnot, but lego probably doesn't want to make a ton of figures in civilian/tactical suits for a line called superheroes).

I disagree again with the a-wing and y-wing. That's not only a difference of two years, either way, but a different design for each vehicle. Yes, lots of the designs for resistance vehicles are similar to previous ones, but that's on the concept designers for the films. (and personally, I like the idea that the engineers in star wars evolve on current ship models. Not everything needs to be drastically different, and in-universe the sight of an x-wing or tie fighter brings with it the respective regime. The x-wing inspires hope, the Tie fear, and it makes sense that those factions would want to keep instilling that.) If you look at the wave we have: A-wing: something people complained was missing from the TLJ sets (though in a different colour). This one is pretty similar though. Pasaana speeder chase: completely origional set with origional builds based on new vehicles. Y-wing: an altered design based on the IX model (in turn based on mcquarrie art). Kylo's shuttle: it might be based on the same vehicle as a 2015 set but it's a completely different model, the colour, wings, etc, fixing complaints people had about the origional. Obligatory millenium falcon: I completely agree with you here, this was entirely unnescesary, it's the third minifig-scale falcon in four years (though it was the only set I bought). And of course, steller figures. So yeah, there's some overlap, but only two sets are based on specific vehicles we've had before, (as opposed to similar vehicles being the fault of the designers at lucasfilm) and one of them is very improved from an origional model we all complained about. Personally, the only upcoming/recent set I think was really unnescary is the landspeeder. (and I suppose the kashyyyk sets from january) -

First off, we didn't get an a-wing or y-wing for TFA, that's blatently false. In addition, the speeder set is completely different, being a skiff with a first order speeder and a stand. It looks nothing like the rey's speeder set from 2015. I will concede that two of the sets are similar, however. Poe's x-wing is a different colour scheme and updated, especially around the engines, but it at the core another x-wing. And the shuttle, while again very similar, is a remake that fixes all the numerous problems with the TFA model, such as the colour and wings. I don't think that's too much of a problem, as anyone collecting over the past few years should already have a ton of resistance and first order troops, with the exception of the new sith troopers we're getting a battlepack for. It would be nice to get dominic monaghan's character though. -

I think Jango just stole mandalorian armor I think the show is leading towards dealing with what makes a 'true mandalorian'. -

Yes, I'm buying 2 copies and a 2011 pack, these will be great to get a ton of and swap the parts around It is almost 100% based on the show. -

Orange and blue go well together as well. I'm currently bricklinking another copy of the 2011 mando pack to mix with a second one of this. Heck, I might buy three. I agree with your idea at the end there, as well. Mandalorians are some of the most merchandisable star wars characters (for good reason), anything lego puts out will sell like hot cakes, but they couldn't put anything with any more than one mandalorian in it in the earlier sets to avoid spoilers. Exactly. Yeah! and there's at least two cape variations too, both of which are new in those colours at least. It's near impossible to see under the helmets, but I'm optimistic we'll see four different face prints (As cool as this pack is, asking for black heads for characters that need them (stormtroopers, etc), is somehow too much, despite the fact that it would be cheaper). Having 4 different faces is common in "good guy" packs of four non-clones. -
