LEGO Star Wars 2023 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

I did like that one. I think it's fake (It's the UCS venator that confirms it for me, and the ghost's figure selection doesn't hurt either, as it doesn't fit the leaks at all, or include Ahsoka), but the minifigure selections are EXACTLY what lego would do for the gunship and speeder. Simultaneously giving fans exactly what they wanted (more clone legions, a way to battlepack the 332nd, that Vaughn everyone was asking for, a new padme) while still being absurd figure choices. -

Lost Tomb is already sold out on lego.com, and it doesn't even appear on the target website. Bummer for me, (especially since I was planning on getting it with a target gift card), but good news that it's sold out so fast? -

You mean to tell me you weren't impressed with the incredible detail and complexity of the Tenoo jedi temple that just got revealed? It's a good ballpark for general volume. (My guess is shorter but more of a footprint, maybe something like this, minus the x-wing, where it's got the temple exterior with the throne room and briefing room on the upper level): Though the amount of figures rumored combined with the price increases means it might be somewhat smaller. I think the evidence for the Ghost is around the same amount (though not the same reasons) as a gunship. They both have no actual evidence, but just sort of make sense for lego to be doing this year. That said, we'll only get one this year, if we get either... I didn't get all the complaints at first about the figures, as they look fine to me in general, but the more I look at them, the more I realize how bad of a look it is for an 18+ set of all things to have figures that are like out of their way to be inaccurate. I've seen quite a few comments criticizing the dioramas in general, but maybe it's just the same 2 people or something, I don't want to scroll back for the usernames. -

I don't get this. The endor one is rough, yeah, but the Trash Compactor and Yoda's hut both sold great last year (the trench run... did not), and the throne room doesn't seem bad. But everyone's lumping everything together like the dioramas themselves are the issue, which I don't think is fair. I mean first off, there is most certainly not always a star destroyer on shelves. If you count the UCS one, the last increment of a star destroyer being continuously on shelves was October 2019-december 2022 (this is the same whether or not you count Gideon's cruiser.) It's definately not always on shelves. Besides that, since the show is about finding Ezra and Thrawn, a chimera set would likely have to be spoilery, not to mention laughably undersized. We're getting the largest non-UCS/MBS SW location set ever this summer, so I don't think they did. -
Very, very nice!

is clone jet trooper underrated?
Mandalorianknight replied to omegabadbatch's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Yeah, @SillySeeker I think, though it seems he's changed it now. I think most people did like him, though there was some ire that he wasn't a standard trooper. (Which I've never been upset by, I think the 3:1 ratio is perfect for battle packs so long as the 1 isn't a unique character, just a more rare one.) -

Look, of course lego is going to make 4+ sets. At least this one is based on new, 4+ oriented content, right? I get what you're saying, but we are going to have 4+ sets. It's like being upset that we don't have more 18+ sets instead of system sets. Yeah, It's the three-4 kids with yoda as a mentor. IIRC there was either an announcement or leak saying that the UCS X-wing would be unveiled there alongside other ROTJ content. -

Are you forgetting the other 4+ sets, many of which had only repeat figures? I think if anything, this is the best 4+ set for AFOLS, since it's new figs/characters. Doesn't excuse the price though. -

Honestly you're right. Lego seems to be wanting an Axis every 3 years (2014, 2017, 2020, 2023), sort of like TIES and X-wings, so it'd be nice if we could get one for Ahsoka. My guess is this will contain a CW era yoda with the new head mold, and that was the reason for making it yoda's, but it better come with at least 3 figs. We're already at a $5 price increase from the already-overpriced 2020 model. Yes, it would be another set not based on the clone wars television series but instead on the wider era. This one makes significantly less since to me than the battle pack though. Yoda's actis isn't a demanded or interesting design in the way people wanted more clones, there's no real connection with it to other sets, etc. -

It's because for a 4+ set, it's parents buying it, not kids. (Not that that makes the price ok by any means, but it's why.) I don't know why anyone thought yoda's starfighter would be based off this show. We've seen no evidence that yoda even pilots a starfighter in the show, have we? Not to mention YJA is very much a 4+ show so I doubt we'd get 6+ sets for it. Actually, weren't there rumors it was a standard Actis interceptor, and not his TCW one? -

I can't find HD images of the throne room yet, but the ones of the Endor set definately make it look better IMO. I still think it needed more trees/foliage, but those speeder bikes look excellent, and with a better understanding of the size it looks more like it's worth $80 to me. (Not that I'd say it's worth $80, but it's closer than I thought it was.) -

I was about to say that I can't see them doing three big ahsoka sets, so it's probably not, but... hear me out. If there were ever a time to release a ghost after rebels ended, it would be now, with Ahsoka. They could even have it be rebels-based, since many of the characters show up in Ahsoka. Now, at 1083 pieces it can't be the falcon-sized, interior-having ghost I personally wanted, especially if it includes the phantom, but a ghost nonetheless. And like you say, the amazon exclusivity has, in the past, been their go-to for stuff that they see as obscure. (Vader's Castle). (You could kind of count the Crest here too, as it would had to have been in development before Mando's release, and lego is notorious for it's fear of show-based SW sets before mando took off.) While that is where it started, I believe some other, more reputable sources have implied he and Luminara are in the set. But you have a fair point. The set itself is, or was, ROTS based. Rex's inclusion makes it more of a TCW set in that it's a generic GAR vehicle with a fig from TCW, which is what I'd guess Jdubbs is referring too, but the vehicle itself is from Revenge of the Sith. What I'd guess happened here is that it was originally based on ROTS, but lego saw an opportunity to include rex, so they did, making it TCW, much like the AT-TE and P2 Cody. Now, does Rex make the set worth $25-30? Absolutely not. For 108 pieces that better be a bionicle or something. -

Do not open this tab unless you're ok with potential spoilers for the show, but this is what I think in terms of likelihood of included characters across two sets totaling what, $150? TLDR: There are a lot of interesting figs we could see, and given the cost of the sets, I think we have a shot at getting the majority of them, even if the two everyone wants might not show up for other reasons. -

Hell yeah swamp speeder is based on the origional trilogy, let's go. Jokes aside it HAS to be TCW if rex is involved, as is rumored. I'm not sure how it being ROTS even got started. I want to preface this by saying I VEHEMENTLY dislike the high republic. I don't like what I've read of it, I don't like the jedi's "golden age" being 2-400 years before TPM, I don't like that stupid rock thing, and I HATE that the level of technology in the high republic makes KOTOR stuff near-impossible. That said, I would kill a man for a Vector starfighter, those things look sick. Bonus if it comes with the trandoshan jedi dude, he was cool. The weirdest part to me is that if I'm understanding some of the comments right, some people are saying another pack of four of the 2020 troopers WOULD BE PREFERABLE to the battlefront ones, which is absurd to me. It'd be a battle pack of nearly the exact same figs as the previous one, aside from holes in the helmets. That's nuts to me. Now I get the argument for it being a 212th pack or something, and as a 212th fan I'm partial to it, but I also really like that we got the different specializations and attachments, and I just love the idea that it's almost an expansion set for a 501st legion. Alternatively, we could create a new thread. The "news" thread is basically nothing, so we could retool it into something where authorized posters can summarize reveals, leaks, and rumors with any sort of basis. It lets the discussion thread stay a discussion thread while still allowing people who don't want to slog through pages a day know what's going on. -

Alright, let's go off what you seem to be focusing on, the clone wars era. 2016- Obi wan starfighter (Obi-wan, R4-P17.), spider droid (Yoda, 41st trooper, battle droids.) Turbo Tank (now this one was a solid W for prequel era. Luminara, Vos, and some 41st clones.). That's it. That's all the year had prequel wise. 2 re-used clones. 2017- Yoda starfighter (Yoda, R2), duel on naboo (Maul, Obi-wan, Qui-gon), RFT (Aayla, gunner, droids), Hyperdrive ring starfighter (obi-wan, jango, boba, R4-P17.). once more, only 3 sets. The pattern of these being a good era for Obi-wan fans begins to emerge. 1 new clone trooper. 2018-Grievous speeder (mace, grievous). Jedi and clones battle pack (Ki-Adi, 2 p1s, Bariss), Anakin's starfighter (anakin, R2). Our third year with 3 prequel sets, but no big one this time. 1 new clone trooper. 2019- 2019 actually kicks it up a notch with 3 kashyyyk sets (AT-AP, Gunship, scout walker, though still only with Gree and 2 41st variants between them), as well as some TPM microfighters and a podracer 20th set. 2023- 501st battle pack (3 new clone troopers), Rex helmet, Cody helmet, Swamp Speeder (rumored to include rex), potentially a large set or two. You could definately make the argument that 2019 was better, but 2016-2018 I feel like are all objectively worse. Unless your definition of the prequels is obi-wan and jedi starfighters, you aren't getting much. This is a fairly reasonable take to me, especially since I know you like to look at new figs and variants, where we haven't had too much. Though again, the ahsoka sets will definately pull through with some new/interesting figs. It's a cool step pyramidal design, and has some iconic scenes inside it (the briefing, the throne room.) I would have been fine if it had just been a diorama or two, but c'mon, you're telling me you don't see the appeal of the rebel base? To be fair, our only TBOBF sets were one based on mando S2 and one essentially for mando S3 (and a microfighter, fine.). We were never gonna get those figs in them. At least here we can be reliably sure it's not, like, the Razor Crest and mando's hypothetical 3rd ship or something. Nice to see some optimism. I totally agree. -

Now that's a fair bit farther than I'd take it, but I can sort of see what you mean. The gauntlet fighter and marauder both stick out to me as subpar builds. (Which ironically are the only two I have, somehow.) I don't think the dioramas have been generally poorly received. Maybe here the endor one has, but I've shown them to friends of mine and other casual star wars fans, and they've all said they were pretty cool and expressed interest in getting a copy of the throne room for themselves. Like the UCS sets, these are meant for adults who aren't already buying the system sets. It's definately not better than 2021, but I'd put a couple of the sequel years, some of the earlier stuff, and one or two of the TCW dominated years with the wacky face prints above it. And again with the temple? I get that you personally don't like it, but you can at least see how FINALLY getting Yavin is a win for a lot of fans, right? And I have no idea what the builds will be, but in terms of new characters and variants, I think you'll be excited for the ahsoka sets based on the rumors. New major characters with interesting designs, new, unique armor, and of course, some highly anticipated returning characters who we didn't even got the costumes of their most recent previous appearances for. The Rex helmet is already sold out at my local stores. People seem to like it, even if you specifically don't. It's our what, 4th? 5th? clone battle pack type set? You'd have preferred a remake of the 501st battle pack from 2.5 years ago at that point? And really, no army buildable standard clones? That's a stretch. If we go off battlefront 2, you'd see a ton of these guys. And no, it's not literally based on the clone wars. But I gurantee you if we got a new X-wing piloted by Carson Teva, people would still say it's "really an OT set", not mando. The era and content are what matters IMO, and the set has four nonunique clones and a repeatable CW era build. I personally love it and bought multiple copies to shore up my 501st. And geez, "anti-consumer". Not this again. The lego designers aren't secretly going against consumers. And no, if all it was was a rumor of a rex figure, or a complete one, it alone wouldn't make this a good year for CW fans. But the fact that there are at least 4 CW era sets this year, one of which is a clone battle pack and the other of which is rumored to include the single most requested clone ever, definately makes it better than that 2016-2019 era at least. Not to mention there are still multiple large unknown sets. Also, how did I mock you? Like, what? -

And we're still missing a standard first order TIE. Not that I want them to make one anytime soon, but it's hilarious to me that after as many waves of sequel sets as we got... we never got it. The show is 4+. I can't see them making sets for an age range above the show's. The yoda starfighter is at least something you could conceivably draw a line to the show with, but the swamp speeder... c'mon, man. Really? This is laughably hyperbolic. By almost any metric, this is a fine year. Not the best, but far from the worst ever. (For the OT, we're finally getting Yavin, we got our first bomber in 20 years, the return of midi-scale, and an excellent, if a little overpriced, diorama. Clone fans get Rex and Cody helmets alongside another clone battle pack that finally includes macrobinocs, as well as rumors for rex. Mando fans have a variety of sets coming, ahsoka fans have two large sets right off the bat, and there are still multiple large unknown sets coming.) You can find a much worse year for any of those even WITHOUT the unknown sets. I don't deny that YJA is going to be much more accessible to a preschool aged audience, but really, for kids in general, Bad Batch is no worse than clone wars or rebels. I don't think this is exactly what you meant, but I see people say often that BB/rebels/clone wars "isn't a kids' show" because of x dark moment, which I think stems from some desire to claim that they aren't watching or obsessed with kids' shows. All three of those shows are primarily for children. That doesn't mean adults can't enjoy them. (Same goes for most lego sets, actually!) I feel like it's not a spoiler to say that based on the rumors, there are definately new characters coming. Two new major characters, a very cool-sounding armor design, and some significantly different oufits/variants of existing desirable characters. -

This may still be my single biggest gripe with lego DC. Like, sure, all you think will sell is batman. Fine. Sure, even then all the stuff now has to be related to the films. Fine. THEN GIVE HIM EYES LIKE HE HAS IN EVERY LIVE ACTION FILM ADAPTION, not white strips like the comics! It annoys me to no end. It would literally require one (1) new mold, and what do they do? go out of their way to make a new cowl mold that literally can't be used for standard eyes. -

Boy do I have news for you.... (It's jurassic park. They did a diorama like this for Jurassic park last year.) Not to mention it's not like they were sitting on the exterior of the death star, so it doesn't really make sense for them to be situated behind that window. -

Loki season 2 will likely proceed as planned regardless, so Victor is fine. The others will probably either just be recast with no explanation, or the council will be killed by a Beyonder Kang variant or something at the start of Kang Dynasty. We'll get a Kang, no matter what. (Also, everyone seems to be forgetting that unlike Ezra, we don't yet know for sure that he did this. I'm not saying he's innocent, but we just don't know yet. Could be another Johnny Depp situation.)
