I said that remakes like those used to happen, but they don't happen anymore.
-
While remakes of original sets such as the King's Castle or the Pirate Ship used to be almost as frequent as Star Wars remakes, the problem is, well... Where are they now? We still get tons of remakes of a X-Wing or whatever, but where is a remake for the King's Castle? As long as there is the remake of an original set, I wouldn't mind having a Star Wars set remade to. But when the only thing that we have are just Star Wars remakes... you get tired of them. Also, considering that most licensed themes based on movies are based on PG 13 movies, most KFOLs would most likely not even have watched Star Wars to see where that ship comes from. But when you remake a Castle or a Pirate ship... it appeals to you even if you even if you aren't a movie fan/don't watch many movies. What also worries me is the growing number of licensed themes in Duplo, which is for kids which I am 100% sure that have not seen a PG 13 movie.

I agree with this. I had the same through as you, @Aanchir's responses look like he has a full-time job as a defender of LEGO. Are you a fan or a LEGO employee disguised as a fan? (that was a joke, of course). So please, make your posts not feel like they were posted by TLG itself. I agree with this too. The Speed Champions cars aren't really as accurate as LEGO wants you to believe. Ok, I can understand why Star Wars remakes are a thing, so new generations can get a set, right? While this sounds good at first, why doesn't this happen with Original Themes? I am not talking about the Ninago Legacy sets, which are rather re-designs rather than re-releases. If today's kids can still have iconic Star Wars sets, why can't they have iconic Original sets? Why can't a today's kid have something like Power Miners? Or something like Space Police? Why can't today's kids have those when they can have Star Wars sets? Star Wars sets get pe-released all the time (sometimes re-released before the previous set even got retired), but a great original set like the Power Miners Thunder Driller never gets re-released. How do you explain this?
-
On paper this sounds good, but when you consider the pricing, is different. In my opinion 30$ isn't worth for a set that is essentially just for the minifigures. I'd rather spend 30$ on something that actually looks good on display even without minifigures.
-
If so, then why have some people started to care more about the minifigure then the thing used for play?
-
The problem is that most people would just build the set that is intended to be built and not be creative. They would just put it on display, but the problem is those 30$ Star Wars sets don't really look that great on display (At least that Luke and Leia one) So once again, minifigures make the difference. Let's be honest here. If those sets had no minifigures at all, would you still buy that set?
-
You make an excelent point. The prices are as high in my country as in your.
-
Just because it's based of a iconic Star Wars scene doesn't make it a good set.
-
Your son may have played with those sets, but I think you were the actual Person that payed for those sets, not him. I personally wouldn't pay 30$ for a trashy build with some cool characters in it. Yoda's Hut is an OK set, but that Luke and Leia one definitely has a bad build that doesn't deserve it's 30$ price tag.
-
The problem here is that is recent years they focused more on the quality of the minifigures more then the quality of the actual set. Most Star Wars sets which are under 30$ are just a poor build with some desirable minifigs thrown in. So, they exchange the quality of the build with the quality of the actual set, which is unacceptable in my opinion. You pay 30$ for a set and all you care about in that set is the minifigures. What a smart method for LEGO to trick you into buying the set. You get a trashy build with two or three great minifigures in it for 30$. What a great deal right? Nope, I have to disagree here. Back in the days for 30$ you actually got a significant build. What you get now is only semnificant minifigures. Minifigures are only accessories that come with the set. Buying the whole set just for the accessories doesn't seem very good to me.

Exactly. A lot a kids play with Ninjago without even knowing the names of the Ninjas! Ninjago is supposed to appeal to kids, and if it can appeal to older fans like me too, than the better.
-
I agree with this. Just saw the first two episodes of season 10, and they are more serious and mature than they have ever been. So calling it "campy and kiddy" isn't a valid argument. This is a problem many people have. Many people want Ninjago to end, supposedly because has becomed "campy and kiddy" over time, when they have little to no interest in the TV Show, which is the reason Ninjago is so popular. Without it's incredibly good TV Show, Ninjago would have been nothing but just a normal 3-year run theme, which would have most likely not even been remembered by most people. To be honest, I am not the biggest fan of the sets, but I LOVE the TV Show. So, before you guys start complaining that Ninjago should end beacuse it has gotten worse over time, take the time to watch at least a few episodes.

Minifigure legs without holes? (From 1983 unreleased book)
Lego David replied to jamesster's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Those were probably unfinished minifigures in those pictures, which were supposed to have holes, but since the book was just a prototype probably so were the minifigs in it. -
Licensed Themes VS Original Themes
Lego David replied to Lego David's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I don't like the fact that we get way to many UCS sets for themes such as Star Wars but never something similar for Original Themes. And to be honest, I don't really like the UCS Millenium Falcon. It lacks the interior playability of the normal sized sets. I feel like most of those UCS sets are just made as big as they are not actually be accurate to the movie, but just to be big. The UCS SnowSpeeder looks ugly in my opinion. The normal scale sets work, but the UCS ones are way to oversized just to cash on the UCS Star Wars fans. (This may be an unpopular opinion though). -
Yes, we NEED THIS BACK. Ok pls no. While this was probably the only licensed theme that I really liked, I'd rather have a original theme such as Adventures back rather than a Indiana Jones Reboot. (although with the upcoming Indiana Jones 5 movie, I can almost guarantee we will get sets.)
-
I think it's because the existence of those themes actively puts a blocker on classic themes like Castle, in-house Space and Pirates returning This is right. When a licenced counter-part is around, it actively puts a blocker on the original theme. Still I don't get why would they not re-release Castle now, when there is no LOTR or Hobbit to counter it. This would be the perfect moment, but for some reason LEGO just doesn't care. I never understood why they never made a D2C Castle or Pirates set, when even themes like Ninjago got one.
-
I had been discontinued since last year. I has been discontinued this year. Ok, sorry, but no way. Ninjago is the last remaining Original theme with a story, and the only current theme that I think is still worth buying. The TV show has improved seminficantly since 2011, and while I am not the biggest fan of the sets, I love the TV show. Just saw the first two episodes of season 10, and they are great. Can't wait to see what they will do next with the theme. While I can sort of understand why some people are tired o it and would like it get rid of it, in the current era of LEGO in which we are now LEGO would never come up with a replacement theme that would be good enough to replace it. So, I'd rather have Ninjago than no Story theme.

I can agree with that. Harry Potter maybe could stay but definitely we don't need Jurassic World. The sets were only made because, you know, kids love dinosaurs. The problem is... They were based of a movie which didn't perform well critically. To me it's just annoying when LEGO just uses a bad/mediocre movie that comes out to reboot their licenced themes. I know kids love dinosaurs, but why do they have to be licenced? Why can't we have a theme like the 2012 Dino instead? Or Dinosaurs theme like in 2001. And I gotta say, the Dino Attack dinosaurs are the coolest ever. They can beat the Jurassic World ones every day. Also, the original 2015 Jurassic World sets were basically just remakes of the 2012 Dino sets just with the Jurassic World brand slapped in. Again, dinosaurs don't need to be based of a movie to be cool. I feel like the Dino Attack and Dino 2010 sets were far more superior to today's Jurassic World sets IMO... As far as Harry Potter, I can agree with that too. I have no interest in it either, and that too was only brought back for the cause of a bad movie. I would too like to see it discontinued.

Thank God for that! I thought I was the only one! Yes! This is the exact reason I made this topic! I agree with this. Minecraft isn't a very important line to LEGO and is not a best-selling theme either, but I feel like LEGO just hesitates to discontinue it. It has been around for quite some times, and I don't think it should really stick for any longer. Same thing goes with some other themes.
-
Finally, something who agrees with me in that point. Star Wars has been going on for 20 years now. Maybe they could just cancel the line as soon as Star Wars Ep. IX ends, but we all know that is never going to happen. In those 20 years, the sets have improved, but most of the new sets seem like just remakes of sets that were already made with just some slight changes. Some may argue that all those remakes help for people who have mist on the privious version of the set, but for me personally I am just tired of them. Last year they put out the UCS Millenum Falcon and they made the Solo version only like 5 mouths later. Same as you, I would love this to be discontinued even more than Minecraft, but we all know that this is never going to happen. Most of the Minecraft sets were based on older versions of the game instead of the updates. Instead of LEGO updating the sets with new minifigures as soon as the game does so, they just keep the sets looking like they are based off the old 1.8 version. If they won't completly discontinue the line, at least update the sets in the same way the game is updated. EXACTLY. BrickHeadz has done nothing but be a licensed themes generator. Last year they put out like 30 BrickHeadz, which is a little to much if you think about it. The go-brick-me was intersting, but other than that, the line is kinda bad and didn't even sell very well. Also, why did all of them had to be licensed? The only original BrickHeadz we got were only the seasonal ones and the Ninjago Movie ones. Other than that, just to many licenses. Licenses that people didn't even care for. Licenses that have been discontinued, back brought back just for this. Just... WHY? I can also agree on that. Teachnic sets should be a little more creative than just be LEGO versions of real life vehicles. (not that this is a bad thing, but a little more creativitiy in this theme would not harm it)
-
Is there any current theme that you would like to see discontinued? For me personally, I would discontinue Minecraft. It had it's run, the game itself is no longer very popular, and the sets have started to get repetitive. But that it's just my opinion. What theme do you think LEGO should discontinue?

Licensed Themes VS Original Themes
Lego David replied to Lego David's topic in General LEGO Discussion
So, you would like Avatar the Last Airbender? Here you go: And Yes, this is real. There was a LEGO Avatar theme in 2006, but it only had two sets. -

He is probably even less rare than the BMW polybag, but I also have LEGO Club Max from 2010. -
