Zero's workshop
keymaker replied to Zerobricks's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I hope you get good results during competition. Please let me know, if this type of angle connection (12T + 12T, used in 6x6) is strong enough and doesn't skip under load. -
[MOC] TRX-4 1:10 Lego version
keymaker replied to Krxlion's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This is question to judges, I'm not one of them. But I think, if you will use Lego original motor, and Voltage will be known, so power can be counted, then it should be fine. -
[MOC] TRX-4 1:10 Lego version
keymaker replied to Krxlion's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Krxkion took part in "open" category. Original Lego motors are required to allow us to have possibility to be able to fair comparison between machines. Scale is fine, please have in mind, we are driving mostly trucks. In case of power source, we can use Lego battery boxes, buwizz, mould king, cada, as a transmitter sbrick is allowed as well. -
[MOC] TRX-4 1:10 Lego version

The regulations are quite extensive, so I will only mention the most important ones: based on real life vehicle with GVM = 3,5 tones and more scale 1:12 - 1:14 same type of suspension as real counterpart (tatra's type, independent, live axle) same number of axles as real counterpart same number of steered axles as real counterpart all wheel drive model must be RC cabin consistent with the real counterpart, with floor, 2 seats, steering wheel, gauges drive powered by original Lego motors (no restrictions related to steering) only Lego tires or model allowed by judges (most of us using RC off-road tires 96mm Tamiya CC01) any "rescue" systems are forbidden tracked vehicles and tank steering are forbidden -
[MOC] TRX-4 1:10 Lego version

Not gonna lie, this edition was hard, no question about it. There were no truck without rollover :) But to be honest, not all editions are like this. We also have tracks on much more flat terrain, with some bridges, narrow corners, sand, with some slopes here and there but without so many pointy rocks everywhere (example of such more flat edition below). And on such track I am sure your current model would be more than enough. But the plans you have, especially the first one related to ground clearance, I'm big fan of. The trick is, to have big GC and at the same time, center of gravity located as low as possible. -

Of course it would work with wheels. Modules with tracks can be easily removed and you can put there whatever wheels will fit. Tracks in this scale were the whole point of creating this MOC. I wanted to build such machine and check if this is reasonable, possible and if it will work on acceptable level.

Hi, I present my newest creation – Jeep Wrangler, but with tracks. It is loosely based on Lego set 42122. I built it mostly because I wanted check if such idea can be done in such small scale. And it looks like it can! Here as usual I tried to do something new. I wanted to check if tracks, small ones, can work in such scale, both from mechanical and off-road capability point of view. Apart from standard features (AWD, full suspension, steering, RC, working engine) I always try to fit into my creations something new. Model has tracks mounted on modules which can move, but in limited range, to avoid full spin. You can see it on the video below, starting from 1:27. I consider this as a nice addition to idea of tracked vehicles and I didn't it in other similar lego models. The rest is standard list of features I mentioned earlier and will list below the video. Hidden into the body of famous Jeep Wrangler. I tried to improve a little shape of original model 42122, but I'm not sure I succeded. Snow on the video is rather hard opponent, so I need to admit that Jeep in such configuration wasn't off-road king. Nonetheless it gave me fun to drive it here and there. Below you can find video and list of features and details. Enjoy. Instructions: LINK General details scale: 1:16 dimensions LxWxH: 29x13,5x15cm weight: 871g Features: RC front axle steering (C+ L motor) RC 4x4 drive (2xC+ L motor) Winch with lock 4-link live axle suspension for all 4 tracks 4 studs ground clearance Openable all doors, tailgate and hood Working V6 engine with fan Detailed front part of the cabin Powered by Buwizz 3.0 but also prepared to be powered by standard C+ Hub Photos: LINK My Jeep Wrangler is powered by Buwizz 3.0, but there is no problem to use standard C+ Lego battery box. You can add it vertically: Or horizontally after small modification of tailgate: Internals of the MOC, so drivetrain connected with V6 engine and steering:

This is nice, more smooth solution than the one with knobs. And it works well. But you need to consider 2 things. First: perfect match of teeths to provide smooth rolling, second: under any circumstances the axle cannot slip out from this setup, even a little. If it does, only a little and small gear skips a tooth, you are toasted. Resistance will be unbearable.- 5,456 replies

My truck has my nick on the back, so I believe it should be pretty easy to say which one is mine :D In case of the model, the successor is based on AM General M818 military truck.
-
I consider that, but as you mentioned, this is additional weight, which is not welcomed (but manageable) also placing the camera is problematic, since if I put it outside of the truck dimension, it can be impossible to pass the gates without time penalty. Last but not least, I still didn't buy any decent camera for such purposes :D

You need every single Ncm of torque you can get from those two XLs. Below you can see video from LTTC 2024 Competiton 2, where we had Sariel with us, so there is very nice video recording of the competition. It was not as demanding in case of the power of trucks but you can see how LTTC looks like. I was there of course, you can find me on the video, but I drove successor of the Star 266. But the first competition from this year took place I would say in high mountains, so here, torque was more than necessary. I have photo of it, but not video prepared.

It is most probably possible, but current setting is used mostly to get proper gear ratio on drive shaft to have proper, reasonable speed of whole truck.
