I really enjoy the humor in this piece. Jack keeps calling Broadside Backside and that's funny. You've got some very funny dialogue, but sometimes it's hard to know who is saying what. It reads more like a script than a short story, especially when you put Jack's action of snatching the compass in parenthesis. That is a technique of scripts not short stories. Another instance is when Broadside burps in the middle of his dialogue, you need to separate that out like this: “No need my beauty…tell me," Broadside burped. "What's your name again?” I also think you have too much going on, too many people entering. While I like the one-shot jabs at Will, I personally think you could do without him being in the story and use those words to add actions to your dialogue. These are just my opinions. Feel free to take them or leave them. I just hope that they help somehow. Good luck in the contest!

Thanks MstrOfPppts and Bricks4Fun for the feedback on solidifying the location. I'm going to work on adding an introductory sentence that will help with that. I do tend to be subtle and rely on subtext too much. But I'm going to stick with the Race 3000 because the point is that it isn't very piratey. That's why they hate it so much. If it were Pirate Code, they may not have as much problem, although they're being forced to play board games to escape which they probably don't like in the first place. Akunthita - I'm glad you like this version better. :-) I have posted the revised version in the first post. Let me know what you all think.

I agree with Brick4Fun that I like the second version the best. I like the "I resembled that remark" line. I also didn't have a problem with the light source. Still, if you go with the third version, I do think it is solid. I just prefer the second version for the humor.

Hi! I've been an AFOL for a little over a year now...
SilvaShado replied to SilvaShado's topic in Hello! My name is...
Thanks all for the warm welcome. :-) That's what I thought. I find it a little sad that not more couples enjoy the hobby together. I am very very lucky! :-D That's fun for them to do those videos together. -
Thanks for all the feedback, Will! It's fixed up again, with your help. :-) If anyone else has any feedback, I'd love to know whether this new version is good as is or needs more tweaking. I must say that I'm much happier with it.

The mechanism is a hand crank, but I can't speak as to whether it can be motorized as I've never done that before.

Thanks for the welcome! Is it rare to have AFOL couples? So far, from the people I've interacted with in person, it doesn't seem to be too common. Usually one of the partners is anywhere from tolerant to supportive of the other's hobby, but not a full fan themselves. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
SilvaShado replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Exactly, but they need to do a new one. There needs to be more. :-) -
How do you get inspired? I mean, where do you look for ideas? I've only made one because I had solid inspiration (my supervisor) to make one. I also don't have a lot of parts so vigs interests me on that point. Also because I like telling stories and vigs do that in such a small space.

You do have a valid point here. It does make the lines quick, which is a good way to start it out. And remember, you don't have to take my advice. If you like it the way it is, then keep it. I think you can just put the dialogue at the end of the description of the dog. Then you don't need any more words to connect it. You're right. Now that I think about it more, the PoTC pirates are being threatened by the classic pirates. It just wasn't clear to me at first. Maybe just choose a different word than threatening. But again, you don't have to. If you like it, keep it. I'm only one reader and others may not have any problems with it. Yeah, I haven't seen the 4th movie yet. If you can find room to clarify, I'd suggest to do so. Even just including Blackbeard in there somewhere will give a good indication of what is going on, for those who haven't seen the movie. You are very welcome! I'm glad you found my comments useful. :-)

Very nice! And inspiring! I want to get into making vignettes. So far, I've only made one and it was for a retirement gift for a supervisor.

Awesome! Simply awesome! Love the costume shop and the pub is very well-laid out. Love all the designs!

haha! So funny! Thanks for sharing. I better go check to see which head my minifigure came with...

This is neat, but i was invited to do beta testing and I didn't like it after 10 minutes of playing. I know most of the problem was that my computer couldn't run it, but it also didn't interest me. I hope this works for them, though, to get more people who might be on the fence about playing the game.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
SilvaShado replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
My only wish is - a female elf! Give me that and I will be floating on cloud 9 for years to come. Seriously, though, they should do more female versions of things. Why not a female dwarf or a female knight? -
Hi all! I'm Silva Shado. My husband (blackpyre) and I emerged from the dark ages together over a year ago. We both love castle and medieval themes. Almost all of our MOCs are in that vein. We joined Eurobricks because of the Pirates of the Caribbean contest, but we're here to stay and look forward to joining in the discussions here. I'll be flitting around, probably more than my husband, but we'll both be around the Castle and Pirates boards. See ya around the hills and seas! ~Silva~

While I agree that this set was simplistic in its design, I have to say that it was meant to be. This is for kids while the Medieval Market was for adults. Having said that, I totally bought an extra copy of this because I know I will use every single piece in there for my own MOCs... well, except maybe the yellow bricks... I really would have preferred them to use tan, but oh well. I know if I ever see this set really discounted, I'll be buying another copy. I love the peasants (new female!!!) and new animals. And, like I said, almost all of the building pieces can be used in the medieval MOCs my husband and I make.

Great review! I love this set. I bought one to keep as is and two extras. It inspired me to make my own blacksmith (with a back wall) using two extras. I wouldn't be surprised if I end up buying more as I see them on sale. I don't know what other people think, but I'm in favor of the new small weapons. I like the detail and variety of them. I'm a little hesitant about the rubberiness, but I like that they're smaller and more to scale to the minifigures.

Taking advantage of some BOGO sales, I bought two Blacksmith Attacks and two Ninjago board games. I made my own blacksmith, which I'll post pictures later. As for the extra Ninjago board game, I plan to make a ninja/skeleton expansion for Heroica. :-)

Amazing design! It's so original and innovative! As others have said - love the cheese slopes, the triangular intersection, the sheep! The layout of each side and the choices you made were perfect. Nothing was over-done or under-done. Now... where's the rest of those three kingdoms?

I know this would be too dark, but I'd love a Sandman series by Neil Gaiman. But I think it comes down to wanting the Endless minifigures. lol. I'd love to see some video game series like Lunar, Dragon Quest, Arc the Lad... but those are classic RPGs. I'm sure if any were done, it'd be Final Fantasy or Halo, but Mass Effect would be cool. Though I lean more towards the fantasy series. Oh, that's it - Lord of the Rings! They so need to do a Lord of the Rings series. I'd finally get all the fantasy creatures and races that I've been craving. Or do a D&D theme. It'd be cool to see Drizzt in minifigure. Another series I'd love to see would be one that is predominately female! lol! I don't have any specific basis in mind, just that it'd be nice if there were more female minifigures that were dominant rather than as accessories to all the males. Okay, enough fantasizing for now...

How open are you about your Lego passion?
SilvaShado replied to Fugazi's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Since my husband and I are both fans (we came out of the dark ages together when we bought two fantasy era castle sets from Kmart), it's easy to talk about our hobby with family and friends. They've always been very supportive. At first, I was pretty timid about saying anything to my coworkers. But I started to talk to some of my closer coworkers and they were very interested and supportive. Over the last couple of months, I've become very open about it. My desk at work is now decorated with small LEGO sets and some of my coworkers now stop me in the hallway to tell me about their LEGO adventures with their children. It's quite fun to hear about their experiences. Also, they are quite amazed at what my husband and I build. Many of them were quite excited when we told them that out latest creation was in the LEGO store near us in one of the display cases. Several went out that weekend to see it, even though I had shown them pictures, they wanted to see it in person. Oh, and I made a retirement gift for one of my supervisors out of LEGO and she absolutely loved it! So now, I am much more open and confident about being an Adult Fan of LEGO. -
Which theme/subtheme did you miss and regret?
SilvaShado replied to BeKindRewind's topic in General LEGO Discussion
oooh, boy! Where to start? There's some sets I wish I had been able to get as a kid - I loved the Paradisa series, but only got three of the sets and now they're way too expensive. I only got a few castle and pirate sets. I'm a dedicated Castle fan so eventually, I know I'll get a lot those that I missed, but I don't know if I'll spend the cash/time to get Paradisa. In my dark ages, I wish I could have gotten the Batman series, adventures, Western, studies, Ninja, Vikings, Avatar... I probably would have liked Exo-Force as I was a huge anime fan. I got back into LEGO right at the end of the Fantasy Era so one of my main goals to get all of those, but some of them are freaking expensive. I missed the beginning of the modular buildings so I'm doing my best to stay away from those. We'll see how long that lasts. I'm okay with Harry Potter now that there's a bunch of new ones. That about sums up the major ones that I missed and regret not getting and, for some, doubt I'll ever get. -
I say MOC as a word like sock, but AFOL I spell out A-F-O-L. Don't know why, it's just how I do it. I think, though, that since so many people say them differently that there's not a wrong way to say it.

Those sound like good suggestions to me. I have only played Draida Bay so far, though I just got the other three. I also bought an extra copy of the Ninjago board game so I could make an expansion for Heroica using the ninjas and skeletons. I'm thinking about getting another Ramses Pyramid and do the same thing with those heroes and the mummies. My main complaint with Heroica is that for having 4 expansions that can work together, there are only 4 heroes. It'd be cool to be able to play a big adventure game with lots of people.
