[PA CUP - Cat. B - Class 2] Spirit of Sir Edward
TomSkippy replied to TomSkippy's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
@Wellesley Great idea, I think I will replace the yard with a striker. The sails are based on those from the Imperial Flagship... I photoshopped the pattern, then used a fabric transfer to put it on sail cloth. They're much stiffer (and not vaguely transparent) like the IF, but a good match. I originally planned on just trimming IF sails into the shape I wanted but the gaff sail is too big to cut from the original Lego sail. @Garmadon Thanks! As soon as I saw the cowboy costume, I KNEW it was going to be in a figurehead. And the hull... This started as an experiment to get the hull shape to work. More of a proof of concept. Lego ships always require compromise, I hate using the "plate by plate" method of getting the vertical lengthwise curve, I also don't like the cutting the build off without a little keel/curve (normally below the waterline). I think the build was successful, but there are some (literal) holes. -

@Wellesley I always love the narrow hull pieces. Did you remove the colored toppers for the bow/stern? For the headrails... Honestly, I’m not sure. They look fine. I wonder though about color... the yellow really draws your eyes which can make the size/shape much more noticeable. -
@Ross Fisher Great choice for the minifigure, great pose, and great little vignette. Man that’s what I’m always aiming for with my little builds. Way to go sir!

Nice! I saw the title and thought it’d be a rules/meta thread or a BoBs loophole... Instead I’m hungry.

Love the roof. Love the condescension in the post. Well played. -
I can't believe I forgot Ninjago! I will definitely get one on there.

[PA CUP - Cat. B - Class 1] Sangiovese
TomSkippy replied to TomSkippy's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
@Professor Thaum You read my mind! Totally a smuggling vessel! @Roadmonkeytj Thanks! I'll try my hand at bigger ships someday, but I like that small ones can avoid difficult sections (like the beakhead) and be designed/built in a couple days! @blackdeathgr Check out my flickr for more pics. Strangely I've already scrapped her for my next build … I'll try to describe as best as I can... The tumblehome is made with 1x2 hinge bricks and 1x2 - 1x4 brackets, they have the 2x2 tiles and 1x2 plates on them (which allows a small amount of inward tilt). There is an extra 1x1 side stud brick for the final 1x2 plate attached by the 1x6 tile on top (which is why it doesn't tilt as well as the rest of the tumblehome). The side curve is made from a hinge plate. The 1x2 inverted slope bricks are attached to a weird assortment of tiles so that the last one is offset... this is to allow the tile overhang to fit over the corner of the stern which is attached to the rest of the ship. The top of the sides slot into a 1x1x1 Corner Panel. There's a little bit of tension keeping everything together. -
Apparently Johnny has several ships and potential skippers participating in the Cup. Johnny has no idea. Here's my class 1 entry based on the Galway Hooker boat from Ireland: Sangiovese Range: 2 Maneuver: 3 Firepower: 0 Crew: 0 Cargo: 3 Hull: 1 Super fun little build, I'm happy with her curves, wake, and rigging. Honestly forgot how threading the foresails makes them all crooked/wavy... I hate that. Also had to edit the sail color, my dye couldn't quite get it red enough, in person they are much less vibrant and a little lighter. Pros and cons. Let me know what you think!

IMO she could be a large Class 2 or a small Class 3. A class 2 is narrow hulls w no midsections or 1 very light (25x12 or a little longer) and a class 3 is narrow hulls w 1-2 mid sections... iirc 33x12 (not including any deck overhang)... your cutter has some mass to her (assuming it’s not like 2-3 studs from ground to deck); it’s probably your choice. Of course I’m a little biased, I licensed the Black Rat as a Class 3 and she’s 32x10 which displaces less than your cutter. -
Just about finished the project. Still need to erase some of the original lines I drew. Got the plan from here I might eventually replace MetalBeard with CMF Pirate Captain.

I'm super excited about this, I already have 3 ships in drydock waiting to be finished... Just waiting on sails, some parts, and a little time. Also hope to have a build up for Category A, but we'll see! I have a couple questions first: 1) When I post the ship, can I immediately license it (choosing 'free license' in the form) or do I need to wait until May 6? 2) Do we post the builds in this thread? Or do we create separate threads for the build and link it? If so, is there a specific prefix? Such as [PA] or [PA - Cup]...

Thanks for the kind words all. I had a lot of fun building this... probably shoulda shown the monkey getting paid in bananas.

Location: Bastion Type: Small Artisan The Brick Seas are filled with all types of adventurers and explorers looking for treasures, plunder, and purpose. In Bastion, demand creates business. The castaway's Map Stand promises untold riches for a small fee... For such an unassuming business they do have a pretty strict "employees only" policy...

Old topic, but honestly, in the battle of the bountys I think the Destiny’s Bounty 70618 wins hands down.

Never heard the term “fig barf” Honestly, I think I’m a huge fan, well laid out minifigures are fun and can be interesting. Thanks for sharing the story!

[COR-troops] Exercises in Jameston

Love it. What everyone else said: simple, detailed... I am a little spooked by the Commander’s Face. -
@kurigan yeah, I don’t want to get too upset over this... it was $4 shipped. @Cyberfounder My guess is someone took a plain bicorne and painted it... after all there is a legitimate engraved “lego” mark inside. Weird that someone with those skills would put the admiral insignia on the wrong side.

Location: Bastion Type: Medium Artisan Johnny wasn't sure why the owner of the cafe was still expected to run the same Rum Cart he worked BEFORE he was recruited to own all these businesses. Johnny was pretty sure that a suspicious character drinking tea might know. Johnny was also certain he didn't want to ask questions. So he served the rum (and even paid for his own drinks). Here's a build I dreamed up when I heard that my original Rum Cart was too small to be licensed. So I asked, "What if the original inspiration - the Sand Dollar Cafe - was in the Brick Seas?" Clearly the build got a little big, but I'm pleased with an homage to a cute little Paradisa set. C&C welcome!

So I ordered 2528pb02 (Pirate bicorne with Admiral Pattern). I have a 'real' one for comparison. Isn't the Admiral pattern on the wrong side? Were they ever like this? side note: it is Lego (the logo is molded on the inside of the cap)

Need Help - Official List of Pirate Minifigures
TomSkippy replied to TomSkippy's topic in LEGO Pirates
Funny thing, I didn’t really know where I got that from, but I was SURE that was his name: Don Diego de Lego. I found this: https://lego.fandom.com/wiki/The_Admiral Apparently there was a contest between Don Diego and Cannonball Córdoba, no winner announced. I think I read that magazine issue as a child and decided his name was Don Diego. That’s a good list, and I like the CMF picks. Right now, I’m waiting on a couple of figures to arrive (Governor Broadside’s face and Governors Daughter), once they’re here I’ll line them up and see which don’t fit... some of the CMF may have a little more detail or different colors, maybe some from the first pirates (one of the 3 striped shirt pirates, bicorne bluecoat, or marines from CC might get cut) I think I’ve narrowed down to 62 figures, I’ll need to cut it to 56. Interesting note: Shakespeare, thespian, and conquistador go REALLY well with the Imperial Armada, I always wished that line was more fleshed out. -

I hear that... Interesting, the thespian/Shakespeare fit pretty well next to the conquistador/Armada group. Honestly, the easiest choice might just be eliminating all the CMF figures except the scallywag pirate. That gets me right about where I need to be.
