I don't really have many fleshys, if you would include them, make sure to comment! Also, let me know if I forgot any minifigs!
  2. @Roadmonkeytj tutorial is posted!
  3. INTRO Here’s a quick tutorial on how I make custom lego stickers. The results are good, and look authentic in the right context, though they are not on the level of brickwarriors or even if you follow everything here (seriously check this eurobricks forum out, super helpful!) Basically, this is about the best result I could get with (mostly) what I already had at home. WHAT YOU NEED Torso Print - You can find these on the forums here or simply use google. I prefer to make my own using paint.net (my preferred method is looking at official lego torsos and modifying them... one key to making them authentic is making them look as “lego” as possible, if they don’t stand out (because of style, too much detail or too little detail) they’re more likely to work. When you're making them, keep your RGB colors as close to Lego as possible. I use this site for the actual numbers. You also want to keep the DPI above 300, otherwise it'll look blurry. Quality Printer - my home printer won’t give me high enough quality to work, so I send it to OfficeMax or Staples. Here’s an example: I have a few size options just in case I was off a mm or two. I have multiple copies in case I cut it wrong. It can be a good idea to extend the art further so when you cut it you don’t risk a white line, I didn't because I'm lazy. I have them print it semi-gloss on normal weight paper... (if the paper is too heavy the white edges become more noticeable). Cutting Instrument - scissors or a blade work fine. Lego Torso - You'll want one that matches the color you're using. The torso decal will not cover 100% of the front. Sand Paper - Higher grit the better Tape Spray Adhesive - Make sure it bonds to plastic INSTRUCTIONS 1. Print your decal. 2. Cut it out. 3. Sand the torso where you're going to put the sticker (otherwise the decal may not adhere) 4. Tape the area you don't want to decal... when you use spray adhesive you don't want that on anything that isn't covered (it has a sticky, cloudy texture that WILL show up in pictures) 5. Use spray adhesive (find it at any craft or hardware store)... I use this because it bonds well without leaving bumps or wrinkles. I spray both the torso and the back of the decal. 6. Apply a semi-gloss (or gloss) spray coat after to help protect it (don't use flat or matte... it looks bad). Go with a few light coats (mist it)! Pretty simple. Honestly, it's not the best way to make custom torsos (that's probably water slide decals on blank torsos), but this way works. YMMV but getting a realistic torso is the result of several little things: authentic-looking art, reasonably high quality printing, decent color-matching, decent cutting, spray adhesive, decent gloss/semi-gloss coat (avoid drips... follow the directions on the can). All together that gets you a decal that looks pretty good (even great) so long as you're not super-zoomed in or taking a picture from an angle that really exposes your mistakes. Good luck! Extra pictures/examples below!
  4. A very clean and professional build. Welcome!
  5. I’ll make a tutorial in the next few days and post it in the pirate mocs.
  6. Thanks for the kind words everyone! @Ayrlego Yep offer still stands, What do I need to do? I would like to be the first foreign entry. The fabric stickers are custom, I copied the pattern from the Maraca Guy. The lady torso is custom as well. I love the white cloth legs, so I copied the pop star torso and fairy torso, changed the colors and added lines. @Bregir Great suggestions. It’s a little too thin for minifigures (I tried putting a guard there. One of the weird things about building for Myzecs... they wouldn’t have barrels (they’d use wicker baskets). Extending the roof a stud or two and fitting a figure back there is a good idea. @Kai NRG The bowls are the porcelain bowls with a coat of paint The rest of the pottery is two utensil pots (the one in the back is upside down) and then a reddish brown head upside down with a fez in it) Go for it! The architecture is hardly mine, I copied/combined techniques from the myzec thread, lego modulars, and google searches for “lego Aztec moc”
  7. Finally got the parts last Thursday. Final product is up!
  8. An important part of Myzec life is the market. In the crowded market there are many colors, smells and sounds. It is here that they can supplement their own crops with different fruits or exchange their goods for pottery or colorful fabrics. Foreigners privileged enough to visit the market can find many exotic and valuable goods. C&C welcome! I thoroughly enjoyed putting this together. Initially I built this in Stud.io, but then decided to go with what I had on hand. I appreciated being able to use any grey... the different greys contrast well. I finished the structure early January, but then I ended up down a rabbit trail - I wanted/needed more Natives to populate the market, so I kept ordering more. Then, I needed to make at least ONE jaguar warrior (this will be the subject of a future build as well). Finally, I felt that a market that comprised ONLY food was a little boring for my tastes, so I had to figure out a few other options. Overall a fun build (a little expensive). I will definitely explore the Myzecs more in the future... possibly becoming a 'friend'!
  9. Elos and Capt Wolf said what I’m thinking. It’s absurdly beautiful, a unique idea, fits wonderfully in BoBs and I just keep seeing new awesome things. This is like a BoBs version of Lego’s modular city sets.
  10. Dude. I’m impressed. Love the siding technique, roof, and stairs/wood dock. Im also always a fan of water that’s more than just a blue plate. Way to go Mesabi.
  11. Absolutely love it. All the details really make this. Love the desk, the curved staircase, and really the whole assembly. Way to go.
  12. I'm usually more of a pirate guy, but castle is pretty dear to my heart. I built this for classic castle's contest. In this build you can see many of the sets from the Dragon Masters Theme, including the Wizard's Cart, Dragon Wagon, Magical Workshop, Dark Dragon's Den, and the Fire-Breathing Fortress. I had additional builds for Majisto's Tower (I included his chariot) and the Magic Shop, but couldn't find a natural spot for them. Anyways this is my first micro build and it's fitting that it is a tribute to my first large castle. There have been better themes and castles, but none can quite recapture the original magic of Majisto for me. Full shots: And something a little more dynamic:
  13. @Ayrlego @Elostirion shipping estimate is 4-12 days. We’ll see.
  14. I’ll have a build for this, unfortunately, I doubt that the necessary pieces will arrive in time. I was wondering if you’d still be willing to purchase it (I don’t plan on licensing it). It’s fine if I don’t get entered into the challenge/judging... as I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the build!
  15. Woo! Got registered! Not sure how that works; good luck to you!
  16. I registered as TomSkippy (and then tried again with a different email under TomSkippyII). Either works. Thanks!
  17. Although I’m a pirate at heart, I was looking to submit an entry to the classic castle colossal contest, except I need a mod to activate my account, I haven’t heard back from them and was hoping some of you here may know them or have a suggestion.
  18. @Mesabi thanks for making the brick seas a more lively place! Happy New Years!
  19. Hey guys! Thanks for the encouragement... @Flavius GratianI do enjoy having a rat theme for the decor. @Ross Fisher sometimes details are packed to fit... I like your explanation better! @Mesabi Good eye. It started as a rethinking of the renegade runner, but I kept coming back to the pearl to try and avoid an all-black look. @Faladrin She is indeed right on the line, she is the exact length of a narrow prefab hull and midsection (not including the bowsprit)... she’s the length of a class 3, though only 10 studs wide. @Bart I should add another, I struggled trying to add a second to the Drowned Rat and didn’t even try.
  20. Apparently Johnny is the proprietor of several ships he's never seen nor heard of. Including the Black Rat, a fast maneuverable schooner... A shot of the bow/figurehead w a good angle to see the side detailing: Top view: View of the stern: Side view: @Ross Fisher for my last ship, you suggested a white surface to reflect more light on the model helped a ton with giving definition to a dark ship. Thanks! C&C welcome.
  21. Pretty build. I actually prefer the separate build... it’s impossible to tell and looks better (a bigger building might ruin the perfect proportions)... and it works better as a display piece (having small builds next to it). AFAIK this is the standard for BoBs textile mills.
  22. Man, December is going to be crazy: just posted the tanner and I have 2 general BoBs builds started. Now I need a chinampa, a classic castle micro, and a slum for fabuland. Great problems to have though! Can’t wait!
  23. Immediately makes me think ‘lego’ in it’s simple complexity. Well done. I would definitely consider a collab/challenge!
  24. @Roadmonkeytj presentation in the form of a base. Any more pieces or figures and it’s too much. @Ayrlego thanks... depicting leather is strange. AFAIK you can use cloth, brown tiles, or brown hair pieces. I’d be interested to see what you come up with if you build it!
