[TC17] Rebel Tow Truck
Ctan replied to Ctan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks! There will be more details on rear, I have to check first how much space will left. For now I have some renders of actual build. Bricks are on its way to me, so soon I'll check how it look in real. and here was a quick experiment how it look with tracks on the rear but I don't think that fit. -
Box is impressive, excavator is very cool, I love this massive brick-built arm. Things like undercarriage look too thin and not proportional compared to the rest. I think wider tracks could improve overall look. All in all great job! Looking forward to more stuff like this!

[TC17] Rebel Tow Truck
Ctan replied to Ctan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks a lot guys! It's very motivating! Here's what I got. All parts ordered to make it live (yeah, golden chicken too). When all BL orders arrive I'll show you how this build look in real also exhaust was changed to Pearl Dark Grey because it's much more available to get. -

Just started optimizing this build in stud.io, also more Reddish Brown stuff is on its way. I think this color fit to Mad Max theme the most :) Thanks! I don't have enough this spaghetti pieces but I've already ordered them on BrickLink ;) It look much cooler, thanks for the hint! Thanks guys! I'm glad that you like it! -
Hi, just wanted to try myself in this contest. I've got an idea for rebel tow truck. functions: Lowering/raising towing arm (small actuator) Lowering/raising hook (rachet mechanism) Openable trunk Working 16V engine (powered by PF M motor) designed by @Didumos69 Live axle suspension 2x PF XL motor 3:1 raito Front axle steering PF Servo Deatachable body (hold by 4 easy to access pins) It's not finished yet but I think worth to show ;) Springs were switched from hard to soft (from Dark Grey set) Offroad performance is pretty good, I'd say not the best offroader on the planet but it can handle some slopes well. What do you think?

[MOC] Tatra T813 8x8 PROFA
Ctan replied to Madoca 1977's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi, this changes are important or rather cosmetic? I don't remember the older pic but it look very similar. I went far with your amazing build and I know it won't be easy to get inside :) -
Hello, I just like to share my latest work I did for my kid - simple pullback ambulance to the rest of mini cars collection. It has simple rear suspension. Hope someone will find it useful and entertain kids a bit ;) Here you can find Stud.io file: ambulance.io Also you can find it on Rebrickable: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-27091/ctan666/ambulance-pull-back/

Cutting panels (heresy)
Ctan replied to Ctan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I just dropped an idea how to cut bigger panels to smaller size using simplest tools. Maybe someone will find it useful. That's all. Discussion about "pure" lego etc. is really interesting but I think there should be other topic dedicated to this. Everybody know that lego have limits. Like everything in life. You cant use electric kettle to melt steel. Splitting people to purists and non purist is useless. Sometime it's a need to do someting and when you have a wall that you cant jump over you can also break it or leave it to find other solution. I have reuploaded pictures in correct size. No casualties, I'm scale model builder. I'm rather experienced in case of cuting plastic ;) I can say the same but I don't have a 3d printer, I prefer rather traditional solutions ;) a tank chassis with 4 speed gearbox, 2 buggy motors and RC lipo battery (stepped down to 9V). It work pretty well even if it's not powered from Lego stamped battery ;D I hope that current is without Lego stamp. (Designed to clean up my son Duplos from the carpet) GMK6400 in WHITE! Yes, there are 20 pieces without LEGO stamp.... Just close your eyes, press backspace and it's done :D Seriously.. It's a pice of plastic worth 1 EUR. A toy. Not a diamond or other holy grail. My statement: I use 99-100% Lego parts in my creations. I modify parts and I don't feel bad about this. When part is not available in color I like I modify or ordering it from other than Lego source. I don't feel bad about this. I do not stick to any limits or other well known truths. All limits exist only in mind. Seriously. :) -

Yeah, I know. Maybe I said it not precisely. It should be "I don't need them at this moment" :) -

Done. Sorry, on my device it doesn't look too big. -

The question is why you have to follow this limits? To be a better man? Or because somebody made you to follow them.. -
Cutting panels (heresy)
Ctan replied to Ctan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
No, I don't like to make truck in another color. I like it in Dark Bluish Gray. It will be dbg, yellow and black. So why you like to limit me with available colors? Finally this way you're blocking yourself with limited color palette. Because of this part is available only in for example pink, that part is only available in green so you can't make an fully pink or green model if you want. Sorry, for me this limits are ridiculous. I'm full time job artist painter and seriously I'm not satisfied when something is in wrong color. I don't really care if somebody trust me if I make model only with original untouched, unmodified parts. It's a case of trust or case of building fun? Only "new" part I've made was 2,5L axle because moc builder suggested that in a model. Lol :) -
Cutting panels (heresy)
Ctan replied to Ctan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yeah, I did the same, I have cut lot of axles to desired length (especially 32L to 2x 16 L) :) Thanks! I think one day Lego will release this panels in DBG but I have already bought lot of them on Bricklink so I don't really need them in this number. It's the same size so it's not tottaly different piece that can be used only in specified place. I have marked cut lines with tape (very easy to figure it out where to put tape) next I cut it with very sharp hobby knife. Next break apart the leftover plastic. Gently sand it with file. Done. -
Hi, I wanted to show you a very useful toy. (Tested on kids) Just a quick work done for my 2yo son, it's throwing Duplos far enough ;) Mechanism is dead simple and construction is robust enough to survie all treatment. To load springs just pull down the arm and later release (red lever). Stud.io 2.0 file: http://fantasygames.com.pl/lego/catapult_ctan.io Video probably will be this week or next one.

Hi, my son is playing pullback cars for some time and when he's bored I'm trying to rebuild something to get more fun for him and also challenge myself. Here's 42072 B model done using only parts from the box (including extra parts). It's pretty fun to play with this sets due to very limited parts. Here's .io file (Stud.io from Bricklink) http://fantasygames.com.pl/lego/42072-model-B-ctan.io 12787C01 LEGO Pullback Motor 6 x 5 x 3 - it's made out of bicks because there is no 3d model. And here in real life together with A model:

[WIP] Sci-fi tank
Ctan replied to Ctan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thank you! Yes, it will be a bit smaller... but still huge. Hull is comparable to 42082 chassis. Length is 45 studs and width is 30 studs. Currently it's very tight packed and also very durable. I like how it evolved. Only thing can be improved now is bracing of turret rotation gears. I have dissasembled back part of the turret because it was only an empty shell. Shooting mechanism will remain the same. Next task is to design and fit new tracks carts. I hope to have more time next months to make it live. View from the top: Bottom: Red cylinder is substitute of airtank for compressor (inside is an custom made air container). I plan to use 4 large pneumatic cylinders so it may be useful. With turret: And control unit If you have any suggestions just let me know :) -
[WIP] Sci-fi tank
Ctan replied to Ctan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Update After some time I have to start from the beginning. Previous take was not bad but too large and hard to reinforce to be stiff enough. With gathered knowlege from fail I start building main body with all necessary stuff. It's not physically built yet but very soon I'll know where it need to be reinforced. Boogies will be smaller because drive motors were moved to main body. Red axles - forward / backward Yellow axle - left / right Blue - turret function Green - turret function White - turret rotation Tracks will be extending using pneumatics and autovalve probably because it will be single function. Large LA's will bring too many problems (especially size expansion) so I left with pneumatics. -
[WIP] Sci-fi tank
Ctan replied to Ctan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Almost finished turret, it need a couple of things to do but everything is working. Dog is for scale. I add two "Technic Competition Cannons" under openable left and right wings of rear turret. They will be openable by manual knob and shooting will be triggered by a buttons. Now I have to redesign tracks and partial body to fit turret scale... But all main mechanisms are working so it's matter of time now to complete this huge tank. -

Ctan replied to Ctan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yes... MOCs are problematic on almost every step But it's very rewarding when you solve all the problems and all stuff work as you like! Here I've got finished shooting mechanism and front part of turret. Finally done after a couple of rebuilds. Working as I like. Now it will be a challenge to fit it on turntable. Openable hatch is for my son, he love to see what's inside :) (Something went wrong with the picture) View from the bottom. Firstly mounting point was in the middle but it generate lot of problems and I moved it on the back finally. -
I like its size and compactness, it's looking awesome! I have to build it and test somewhere. Do you think there are all available blue bricks to replace white ones?

[WIP] Sci-fi tank
Ctan replied to Ctan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I saw your tank, pretty cool stuff! If you build it in bigger scale you'll have more space for more functions :) Firstly I didn't think that it will grow to this unexpected size... I decieded to leave barrels extension function because it will be too complicated and turret can't be bigger as is now. Also in turret will be no motors and battery, all power will came from the hull. Ammo clips also will be changed to gravity feed because of rubber band problem (it generate too much friction on first two shoots). Small one is too short, bigger one is too long to work properly. Best option could be conveyor belt but there is no space for such complex creation. So barrel elevation and shooting will go trough 2 shafts in turntable. I've counted motors I need to put there 4x L tracks 1x M barrel elevation 1x M turret rotation 1x M fake engine 1x L shooting 1x XL outriggers and legs elevation and rest of stuff 2x LiPo battery 2x Sbrick -
Thanks! I'm glad that you like it! My goal was to make it as comic style turbo muscle car. I'm currently working on chassis with 2 buggy motors, probably 3 Sbicks (1 per buggy motor and 1 for servo, lights, winch etc.), same 3S LiPo battery, metal u-joints and cooling system to it because battery can easily can suppyly this little monsters. I hope to take more slow-motion footage when finished
