[WIP] Sci-fi tank
Ctan replied to Ctan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
First tests of lifting mechanism, outrigger will be slowed down for sure to match LA speed and lifting height. It also need limiters of lifting but it will be added for sure. Here are a couple of pictures what I have now. Westie for scale :) Also I'm working on double spring shooting mechanism - especially on Its size to fit in turret. Red pin is a part of ammo clip. -
Naaah, tires was washed in relatively clean pool. Later it dried on my car hood. I don't wash it, it's offroader so it dont have to be clean. I like it dirty

[MOC] Bofors Archer
Ctan replied to mortil's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I was thinking about something like this. I just realised that slope isn't 45 degree and it doesn't look esthetic... -
Yes, they are "1.9 inch Super Swamper". This tires perform pretty well on swamps as you can see :)

You can build 3x3L octagon using liftarms and tiny slopes. It's still not round but close enough I think. -
None of them.

Hi, maybe not a new model, but check out my version. I have today a bit ot time to make a short movie :) Please let me know what you think!

[WIP] Sci-fi tank
Ctan replied to Ctan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Torque can a problem I think, previously it was done with 8t gear but it shoot too fast and I slowed it down intentionally. It will have only 10 shoots so it don't have to be speed demon :) In a very limited turret space I want to put 4 extra hard springs (2 per barrel shooting one by one) to extend shooting range. So 1 L engine need to handle 2 worm gears and 4 springs. It's now only a speculation but I think it will be necessary for additional gearing down. -

it's looking pretty cool but it won't work in my gun because it's actually 2L of soid brick for me (shooting trigger is an 5,5 axle) Here is how it work. Dog wasn't injured during filming ;) -

@pagicence : yeah.. It's size is out of control now... Lot of stuff I want to implement made it grow :) I'm working on shooting mechanism but shooting mechanism without ammo is useless. I've done clip for 5x 3L liftarm ammo. It can be easily filled and replaced. Smallest as possible. It can't be reinforced horizontally but It won't be stressed too much. -

A small update. Outriggers will be double for thicker look. I've build a sketch of turret barrels and its case to estimate how much space I have for shooting mechanism. Later I'll design it in cad. Double outrigger Barrels Here will be simple worm gear meachnism to pull out the barrels. Bottom view - barrels are mounted on 1x13 racks. There will be also somewhere large LA for lifting this whole thing. (Blue 3L pins are temporary stops for racks.) And a quick picture of all mess on my desk :) Now I have to wait for all bricklink orders to continue sketching... -

It came from far East - Aliexpress. I decieded to build tank in DBG and didn't wanted to mix LBG or black frames in project. It was only reason to buy this frames. I hope that Lego will release it someday in this color. -

I know, but I don't want to use pneumatics. Only gears and LA. Pneumatics is much easier way but I don't like it. -
Hi, it's my first seriously started MOC. Very complicated but I think I'll learn a lot doing project like this. Tank is inspired by Starcraft 2 Siege Tank. It's not a copy or scale model. I like fantasy and sci-fi so why not to try. Here is a demonstration how it should work Not everything will be copied from this, I have limited space and don't want to create monster. List of stuff to do: Legs/tracks can be moved in two dimensions to create X shape using large LA. [Almost done] Each track drive via built in L motor, typical 2 track tank steering [Done] Track tension pulley wheel [Done] Outriggers synchronised with legs Turret 360 rotation Turret opening and extending barrels [Removed, not enough space to implement] Shooting mechainsm x2, shooting with 3L liftarms [Done] Working fake engine with fans [Done] Large turntable for turret, bearing from 42082 [Done] Openable panel hatches on legs/tracks Openable engine cover Openable panels on turret sides with additional cannons [Done] Here are a couple of pictures of progress. Everything now is generally a sketch, lot of things need to be reinforced. XL motor is just for testing small LA work. Here is a fake engine. Cooling fans are working using trick with 4L hose. Turntable with same bearing as in 42082 crane. Here is an leg construction (not present) but general idea is the same. Here with removable panel. Unfortunately panels need to be rebuild to fit newer shape. And here is estimated size. Please keep in mind that this is very early stage of project and it's my first more serious creation. I'm back to Technic after 20 years (30yo new afol) so I need to adapt to new studless style of building. I've bought my first present set about half year ago so I have to learn a bit now :) Hope this project will help with it. Let me know what you think!

42082 - Rough Terrain Crane
Ctan replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
There is never too many pieces :) What functions do you expect from a crane? It's a crane so it's rather hard to put something revolutionary. For example cabin has sliding door - very cool detail for me. It have boom, outriggers rotating superstructure and other typical crane features. What else it should have? When you disassemble It you'll have a looot of useful pieces that can be use in your own creations! To be honest I bought it for it look, not pieces. It have high "wow factor", very nice body and small details like hidden toolbox and box with chains. It's very well designed and I like it a lot. No, it's not fully extended - I have ceiling on its way... Yes, it not stiff enough to take very heavy loads like 4 bananas on its hook.- 1,224 replies

What you like to know about gearbox? It's splited between superstructure and chassis. Axles are mostly geared down. I can take a pictures from instruction if you like. During building it was really hard to take a good picture of all gears. It would be better visible for sure in upcoming LDD files. I have a picture of its size compared to a couple of other stuff I have currently on shelves.- 1,224 replies

42082 - Rough Terrain Crane
Ctan replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yes, it's very stable. When I tried to flip crane to test it stability the chassis started to bent but turntable and bearing was pretty solid. It's very smooth working. @incognito: It can lift and hold 2 bananas (400g) 4 bananas can be lifted hardly (800g) but it need much more counterweight, otherwise it will fall over 450g of cargo All in all if it has more counterweight it can lift and hold pretty nice load. I like it :) But please remember that model isn't finished yet and its wieght is lower now. With plates for outriggers and other angles it for sure will work better.- 1,224 replies

It's "Bar 1L with Towball" released in 2016, I didn't know that something like this even exist before getting the crane. https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=22484&idColor=85#T=S&C=85&O={"color":85,"iconly":0} and here's the wheel - " Train Wheel Small, Hole Notched for Wheels Holder Pin" https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=50254&idColor=11#T=S&C=11&O={"color":11,"iconly":0}- 1,224 replies

42082 - Rough Terrain Crane

It look like this, inside is located large turntable and bearing is connected to it. I've made a low budget option for my personal project, same function but more common parts. Original bearing part Rubber bands are only to increase friction on two axles from gearbox - for winch and second for boom extension. Dog is too fat :D Yup, it's impressive, I like it a lot and for sure it was one of better purchases latest time :)- 1,224 replies

You're right, they reaching ground but without lifting any weight, 6x6 plates are needed to lift the crane 2 studs over the ground. Edit Short video of crane speed: http://fantasygames.com.pl/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/20180717_102230_1.mp4 And here's background, still not fully finished crane but fully operational.- 1,224 replies

I don't understand this color combination too. I'd use rather light grey, dark grey and black if it will be MOC. It make the assembly process easier and faster in my opinion because you can easily see where to put next parts and subassemblies. It look very bad if exposed but all this colorfull brick pizza is hidden under the hood where you can't access. Lot of builders use random colors when building Lego System stuff taking care only about function not the look and colors. When I design something I always want to match colors and make creations looking estethic and didn't mix random colors because it's hidden later. In Lego set case it's a compromise. It's still designed as a toy so kids can easily assemble the chassis even without too much thinking. Afols can replace colourful parts with more faded one. So all in all it's not bad and not good. Just a compromise like in real life :) @Jim I'll put resized pictures when have possibility. I thought that they are scaled down to post container and didn't get out of screen. I can take a pic later today when back home. It's nothing special - one switch is for turntable (left-right rotation) with lot of gear reduction, second is for inner axle (i think it will be for boom).- 1,224 replies

Actually I don't have display case for this model. I bought it because it's new. I like opening bags with new parts and its sound :D I was forced to disassemble two other sets to put it on a shelf. I'm working as full-time artist painter and in my opinion color vomit is awful on this set. I care a lot about estethic looking. I know that is a toy but even 14+ year old kid is grounded to age of my son (2 yo) with this set of colourful pieces. My eyes painfully hurt during assembly but I know that this stage of build will be very soon hidden under bodywork :)- 1,224 replies

Ok, so I'll post my work in progress, I don't have too much time to assembly this but bags numbered from 1 to 3 are already here. Color vomit is also already here :) As you can see it's very early stage of build. Nothing really new during building. And here is worm gear replaced by 12t gear.- 1,224 replies
