  1. The movie was like an experience more than simply a movie. I felt like I was really there for the 2-3 hours I was watching it. That's what left the biggest impression on me. In fact, that was James Cameron's intent. That is to make you feel like you really visited there and that it might be a real world someone out there in space. Sure the story was a bit predictable, but if that's the worst I can say about it I think overall it's a good movie. After watching the special features on blu-ray I see how much innovation and new filming techniques went into making the film. All the work to capture each actors unique performance is unprecedented. If one is going to use almost all CG to make a movie this is the way to do it. cough...George Lucas...cough They even went so far as to really create all the costumes of the Na'vi in real life using real weavers and craftspeople even though no one was going to wear them on screen. His reason was to make sure that what was created using CG was something that could actually exist in real life and to give it more authenticity. I'm glad to hear that he'll be doing so much more with this world he created.
  2. That's my feeling as well. I have a hunch their license to make sets expired sometime after the last movie was made. Expired by design I would think. Lego probably doesn't see a good business case to continue making sets long after the movies were done. Still, it would have been nice to see some updates of sets that perhaps could be added on to Hogwarts Castle. I made it a point to get the last 2 sets I wanted to complete my collection before it become difficult to track them down at retail. The 2 sets being 4842 Hogwarts Castle and Diagon Alley.
  3. I'd have to go with LOTR simply because I feel LOTR will have more girls interested in it than boys will be to Friends. As far as lasting power, that probably has more to do with what kind of licensing agreement Lego has to keep making LOTR sets.
  4. I gotta admit I didn't see that one coming. You should have mentioned the Nesquik Rabbit figure beforehand. I'm sure it would have influenced the opinion of those that chose the Black Pearl.
  5. You are absolutely correct. I was able to pick up the book yesterday at Target. The book confirms that this is the outfit Harry wore during "The Slug Club Christmas Party".
  6. No doubt. I now ask whenever I'm in the Lego store just in case. They usually have something under the counter.
  7. I was curious about these sets. The Toy Shop is discontinued, but is it safe to assume that Lego will have only 2 available at any given time. For instance, will this be the last year for the Bakery now that we have the Post Office and a new set coming this winter? So, maybe during the holidays this year we'll see all 3 (Bakery, Post Office, new set), but after all the Bakery sets are sold they won't restock?
  8. I'm sure it's been mentioned in this thread, but I would love a Fortress of Solitude or perhaps a Hall of Justice for that matter.
  9. Here is a list of all my sets. I didn't list all the various polybag sets or any multiples. Out of all the themes I have Star Wars has the most sets. Elite Clone Trooper and Commando Droid Battle Pack Endor Rebel Trooper & Imperial Trooper Battle Pack Droid Escape Geonosian Cannon X-wing 9493 Anakin's Jedi Interceptor Gold Leader's Y-wing Battle for Geonosis Naboo Starfighter 7877 Clone Trooper Battle Pack Mandaloriam Battle Pack V-wing 7915 Battle of Naboo Ewok Attack Sith Nightspeeder Anakin's and Sebulba's Podracers Rebel Trooper Battle Pack Snowtrooper Battle Pack TIE Defender ARC-170 Starfighter Hoth Wampa Cave Republic Swamp Speeder Luke's Landspeeder 8092 Plo Koon's Starfighter General Grevous' Starfighter Emperor Palpatine's Shuttle Slave I 8097 Midi-Scale Star Destroyer AT-AT Walker 8192 Echo Base 7749 Clone Walker Battle Pack Assisn Droids Battle Pack Heyan Droid Bomber Separatist Shuttle The Battle of Endor A-wing 6207 Bounty Hunter Pursuit Snowspeeder 7130 Various Polybaged sets
  10. Great idea. A fence to block it off on the sides will work well to add it to one's modular neighborhood. I may just do something like that.
  11. Yeah, you're probably right. Since, when did Lego ever do anything related to graveyard and death. Oh, that's right. Just teasing you. Wait, what pictures?
  12. Some worthy contenders IMO. Although I am a bit biased about the Alien Conquest.
  13. Between Shelob Attacks and Gandolf Arrives, Shelob attacks wins hands down. Shelob Attacks comes with 3 golden rings, 2 of Frodo's sword Sting, Golum, and Sam. I think there's a nice spider in that set as well. You also get the light of Earendil, but it's just a clear gem.
  14. I was thinking that the cheerleader might even be a male cheerleader not female. Someone gave me an idea that the trader might be some kind of fur trader from the old west days. Just a guess.
  15. To be fair the comments were pretty much made by the same few people, and before the designers first statement clarifying things. Since, then I think everyone has gone back and changed their opinion about it. But the fact is the word was used or perhaps implied by a few others even if not directly used.
  16. For the record the Monster Fighter Haunted House looks way better than the 2 sand green MOCs it is/was being compared to.
  17. I agree. There are only so many ways to do certain types of things. From the designers comments I can see that he must have worked very hard for a long time to come up with the model he did. I can see how upsetting it would be for people to comment and infer or even just speculate that he didn't come up with the ideas on his own after putting so much of his talent and effort into his fantastic model. As he mentioned Lego has no problems with getting permission to use a design, so why wouldn't they in this case if he did use the MOC as a base for his own model. The answer is because he didn't use the MOC as an example. And then even after he explained himself some people were still doubtful and still speculated that he was simply defending himself just to save face. That would really upset me even more if I were in his position. Even if it was an honest and understandable mistake for considering that he drew ideas from the MOC I think he is owed an honest apology now that we have been informed of the truth. Not for having an opinion, but for making an honest mistake and honestly insulting his integrity even if at the time one felt justified in making such a conclusion.
  18. I would be up for a ski resort. I just wished it would mean that they would give us a raised baseplate.
  19. Yeah, I was thinking this Polar theme will be a short run theme like Monster Fighters, Dino, Alien Conquest, etc.
  20. That tree will go well alongside the haunted house. Ditto for the zombie graveyard. That hearse will look good parked outside as well.
  21. I think there is a market for it. When it makes the most sense is when people need certain parts for MOCs.
  22. I was starting to guess at a Coffee Shop since TLG has a thing for coffee. I'll actually be looking to pick up the bakery next and see if they discount this years set early next year.
  23. I didn't really think of AC as technically part of the official Space theme. I tend to group this theme in a special theme category with Pharoah's Quest, Dino, and Monster Fighters. As one theme goes another takes it's place. It just so happens there are spaceships and aliens in the theme. That's just my personal view on it.
  24. Judging by the comments I can see that this will be an under-rated set. I suppose the game wasn't all that popular, and maybe since the characters are not that well known most people are indifferent to them. I like this set for the simple fact that it features zero stickers. For that reason and the fact that the vehicle and minifigure characters are something more obscure from the expanded universe I feel that this set is a must buy simply for collectible reasons.
  25. Not sure how things are in the UK. I sometimes find myself looking for ways to spend PayPal money on Lego. I've used Paypal to buy things at TRU, Target, and Walmart websites. What I like the most is when I can pay for something at TRU.com with Paypal and arrange to pick it up later that same day at my local TRU if they have it in stock. I wish Amazon.com would take Paypal payments, but they don't. Edit: I think Barnes and Noble takes paypal on their website as well.
