  1. A Porsche 911 is a car that, depending on priorities in life, many people actually can hope to be able to own some day. The Bugatti Chiron, not so much.
  2. True, but I still can't build the Porsche without fake vents in the fenders. I wish LEGO had built a Porsche 911R or a 911 Turbo S instead. :) The both of you are probably right about stickers and curved surfaces. I didn't think about that.
  3. How could you not want a McLaren? Especially when they make cars as beautiful as the P1. :)
  4. I bought 2x 42053, 2x 42054. This year I might buy 1x 42082. In other words, 2016 is the winner in my book. I'm also more interested in buying the Porsche than the Chiron because I feel like I would have more use of the orange pieces and the black rims. I am not a fan of the new break disk part of the Chiron and I can't see where I would use the dual blue coloured parts. Especially since you only get two fender panels in each colour. I also don't understand why so many people favor printed parts. The printed fender panels on the Porsche would have been way more useful without the printing. Now they feel like if you would have put fake vents on the real car. That, I would very much rather live without.
  5. Both the Nissan R33 GTR and R34 GTR came in what is called Midnight Purple (I, II, III). Iconic cars indeed. Also, front engined. Sadly, not in production anymore though.
  6. It will probably be fine concidering the slow turning speed and typically low loads like you say. However, compared to the large LEGO turntable part this will have a lot less contact surface. Keep in mind that at most half of the "rollers" or discs in this configuration will be carrying all the load unless there are other non visible parts that help carry it, like for example what zux describes above. It will be very interesting to see the whole configuration once it is revealed. Perhaps there is way more to it than I have seen so far, which there probably are is.
  7. While the turntable configuration is meant to resemble a thrust roller bearing, the "rollers" have a very limited contact surface resulting in quite high surface loads. Thus, I feel like the LEGO parts that makes up the turntable will wear out quite fast if put under relatively high stress. I do understand that there are limits to what you can do with LEGO parts though, and I think they have come up with a clever solution here.
  8. Out of curiousity, why would you want 95 mm diameter tractor tires when there is already 107 mm ones? I’d say no larger than 82 mm or else the difference in size wouldn’t be worth it in my opinion.
  9. Keep in mind that the 2018 2H sets will most likely still be in production/on sale in october-december 2019. That's almost two years from now. The CLAAS has been discontinued.
  10. It most certainly will be the same bucket as used in 42030. Still, I just wish they had made the attachment points on it look more like in real life to begin with. Se below.
  11. After seing pictures of the new sets for 2018 part of me regrets not getting another copy of the 42053 Volvo EW160E. My take: 42080 (Forwarder): Pneumatics is my favourite lego technic feature. I don't have a problem with the mix of colours but I was hoping for more beams and less panels in green. Also, I would actually prefer a manual pump instead of a noisy compressor. When was the last time we hade the oportunity to get a new set with a large pneumatic pump before 42053? I would rather not pay for yet another set of electric motor + battery box if the choice was given. 42081 (Volvo): I realy wish LEGO would forge a new bucket shape. I know I'm probably in a small minority here but I think the very narrow connection points on the 42030 bucket looks unrealistic and can't understand how they came up with that design when clearly it doesn't match the real Volvo L350F. Other than that I actually welcome some new yellow parts. 42082: (Crane): Looks like there will be lots of red and black parts included which I realy like. If I end up buying only one set from this years lineup it will probably be this one.
  12. Source: Porsche I mean, look at it! Of all the cars currently in production I wouldn't want any other one than a Porsche 911. It's just so amazingly beautiful. Just make the vents in the front fenders proper ones for the next version LEGO. :)
  13. It will turn out to be the new Porsche GT2. :) Since I didn't buy the 42056 GT3 RS I actually wouldn't mind a new and improved 911. :)
  14. All this talk of how a pneumatic engine wont fit. Am I the only one who interpret the meaning of the original comment being a new (to LEGO) kind of proper pneumatic motor/pump? Like what you would see driving this function (saw blade) in a real machine like this? (Well, it would be hydraulic and not pneumatic IRL, but you understand what I mean).
  15. I take it there is no such topic then? I thought it would be a useful thing to have an on-going thread where people could post when they see a set being adverticed as "Retiring soon" in the lego online store. I guess I'll assume most sets are produced until end of the year after the year they were first put on sale.
  16. Well, that's one theory. Then again, I believe the Volvo EW160E sell quite well and it still wasn't produced for a longer period of time than the CLAAS Xerion.
  17. Earlier today I noticed that the 42043 MB Arocs and 42054 CLAAS Xerion where listed as "Retiring soon" in the LEGO online store. The Arocs looks to have been sold out for a while and is no longer listed at all as of now. I believe the 42053 Volvo Excavator is now gone too and I never even saw it listed as Retiring soon. Seems to me like there are no actual rules of how long the sets are in production for. The Volvo and CLAAS have only been on sale for little over a year. Is there an active topic somewhere that lists technic sets that are about to go out of production?
  18. I haven't really checked but to me this definition would feel odd. Hasn't Technic been using studded elements longer than it has studdless ones? Not sure when the break was but it happened after I stoped building with LEGO in the 90s and before I started again a couple of years ago. :)
  19. A CLAAS harvester in decent size would be the dream. I wouldn't mind if they used tires of the same diameter as the old "tractor" tires as seen on the 8849 Tractor (82 and 63mm) but a little bit wider and with a tread pattern similar to the Xerion tires. I didn't think Volvo CE made Backhoe loaders. I couldn't find them on their website. If LEGO continues with the Volvo models I sure hope they start making the pneumatic cylinders in black instead of yellow. That would be very sweet.
  20. I'm hoping to see a new Backhoe soon and that it will feature a smaller tire with tractor treads. I wouldn't at all mind another new tractor but I guess it's a bit too soon after the Claas Xerion. Then again, lego seem to be quite good at coming up with some strange designs so these tires might show up anywhere. Do you think the license to use the Mack name was part of the agreement between Volvo and TLC or if it is a new, separate contract? Just curious.
  21. Mostly, I'm worried that the content of the boxes is somehow damaged as a result of the rough handling. I don't want to find my instructions and stickers all folded up when I open the boxes. I have now been offered 20% compensation for the damaged goods if I decide not to return the wares. This means I will pretty much pay for one 42053 and get one free if I compare my price with what the LEGO online store sell the set for. The only concern I have is that I don't want to find damaged pieces when I open up my boxes. Should I be worried or not?
  22. Oh, LEGO! But why?! :( I might have bought three of 42077 if I got two pieces in each but buying six copies is a little too much (yes, I know I can order individual pieces). :)
  23. I've only been able to find one on the wing in the pictures I've seen. Where is the second one?
  24. Hehe, I think you would get along just fine with the people who sent me my pair of 42053s. :) I might do that if I return these. This set seem to be going out of production very soon though so it might be hard to find a physical store with more than one box to choose from. In this day and age sending something without at least a cardboard box around it is pretty much like asking for trouble with the postal service. If the package even arrives at all. My two technic boxes were wraped with one layer of boublewrap and thin paper around it. I feel offended by their arrogancy. I didn't even get enough packaging material to be able to return the order without adding my own cardboard.
  25. Ouch, mine looks like mint compared to that hehe. Did you keep that one or not? Mostly, I just like my new and shiny to be just that. I like to keep the original boxes of stuff I buy and with LEGO I'm thinking of putting some of them up for display. I don't think I'll ever resell these sets. Good thing about the extra points in LEGO stores, I did not know that.
