  1. @Drunknok @Spud The Viking Upon landing, the expedition found a few shipwrecked Garveyan sailors who agreed to join the crew until civilised lands were once more called upon. They shared what they had found during the weeks they had been stranded there. Epper noted in his log: Island #: 7 Nickname: The Aviary Geographical Features: Isolated from any other major islands, thick verdant jungle covers the entire island interior, sitting on a plateau atop 100 m high cliffs making up the entire coast. The northern point is pocketed with shoals and coral reefs, although several potentially good harbours can be found on the eastern coast. On the Western shore a series of large caves open up to the sea, some of them navigable by small vessels. Rumours: The native people of this island are said to inhabit fortified villages that are sited on small hilltops and are reported to rarely venture far to sea. They decorate themselves and their settlements with colourful feathers from the diverse range of bird life that is reported to thrive on the island - which is also said to be absent of any major mammal life. The few reports from Halosians claiming to have visited the island include references to several species of large flightless birds. These ratites, some of which are which are reported to be over twice the height of a minifigure, are said to be mainly herbivores, although are reported to be dangerous when attacked. The away teams had made their way up the path covering the approximately 100 meter rise to the plateau atop the cliffs and it was decided to make camp and find a source of fresh water. The path proved to be wide and flat enough to support horses and smaller carts. (One build of the camp and/or water exploration required) Options this turn: - Send a scouting party out to look for signs of natives, we need to know what we're up against! (one build of the what the scouting party has found) - I refuse to eat salted beef my entire stay here! (one build showing a hunting party bringing in fresh spoils) - God save the Queen, It's all in the name of science! (one build showing a team documenting the plants and animals on the island) - Begin fortifications for defending the bay and the path up the cliffs (one build required showing the preparations for building defences) Note: two builds required to continue (one of the camp and one of the options). You may choose to, but are not required to, explore a maximum of two options this turn if each has its own respective build.
  2. Drunknok Pips crew had explored the lower levels of the tower. Right now, she just wanted a drink. What she did know is that they had only found bare stone so far so it was safe to say whoever had been here wasn't any more. And the passage to the upper stores were blocked by rubble. As the Marines were moving supplies in preparing base operations, Wesbert Thaum bent Pips ear about the scientific importance of finding out who built the tower and where they had gone. "Granite work like this can not simply be ignored... This tower was constructed for a reason the statue may hold clues to its importance. Why did they leave with not a trace of any sign they been here was it plague or something unnatural. They didn't leave in a hurry they took the time to clean this place out." Pip grew quickly annoyed with the conversation and began to walk away. It was just then she felt one of the tiles below her feet made a "click" then a "pop". Pip and Wesbert stared worried at each other as beneath the floor began the continued sound of sliding stone and massive crashes that shook the whole tower. As the crashes grew louder and louder they finally let loose to one final crash that sent a cloud of dust billowing up through the tower. Oddly just as soon as the cloud of dust came upon them a wind came up through the tower and cleared it. Once the team regained it self from the coughing and choking of dust they noticed there was an entrance and steps that had not been there before. At the back of the main floor of the tower now stood steps leading down into a dark passageways. Sarge and the Marines all looked to Pip for their next orders... Explore the underground passage... One build required showing what other hidden traps and snares the team encounters while the passage below the tower. Next turn will reveal what is found at the end of the passage. This looks like a lighthouse - answers will be above! One build required showing the team finding a way to the upper stories. Do they climb? Clear the rubble? Find an alternative route? Next turn will reveal something about the origins of the tower. This tower is of little importance - we re still low on supply, and our vessels are damaged One build required showing the expedition resupplying. Not doing so may have consequences. Adding an extra build will also allow you to repair your vessels, which are currently in no condition to sail. Only one of the three options can be taken this turn.
  3. I recently priced one of my moc's... It started at 480 ... Then I set price limits and it's down to 82 dollars lol
  4. As first hand experience... The first year is bad for bats until they learn where the towers are birds aren't a problem. I was on a 400 MW farm with 200 turbines. We had 10 dead bats the first year, 5 the second, 2 the third. Then only one the next 2 years. Wind has far less environmental impact over any other energy... Even solar.
  5. This a great little diorama... Absolutely love the scene and the caboose
  6. I think the sand green works well. I would agree the dark red would fit it better IMHO. It really is a lovely engine... Have you priced it yet to build? Also the caboose is well done despite the plank direction
  7. Favorite colors so far lol
  8. Here is the rough track plan... It has a L and R switch (PF/RC track) the front switch will be on the front edge of the table the decoupling will be done mechanically with levers 6 studs wide from the edge of the track (whole track sits 1 stud elevated to make room for axle- if this design works at the show I will "grade" the tracks with ballast for next year's show.) So would one side be preferable to the other in this case? I had heard of them derailing through switches that's why I was asking for tried and true designs (I personally have never built a powered truck this way but everything has to be contained in a switcher not the consist so...)
  9. Very nice ... If they were more popular in Appalachian logging I would love to use these?!
  10. I was one of the lucky employees who got one of these on first release. I sold it when prices hit 1000 us as I was in my dark period. (still kick myself) I highly recommend this set it's a really great set and an excellent replica of a V80. This stood almost 4 feet tall on original release and looked amazing... I for one can say I will be buying it for sure!
  11. What happened to less is more? Lol Thank you though. My current bricks are strained as I have not unbricked some other larger mocs and I'm building another display as well. (all non pirate themed) so this structure sits in a larger display which is not at my house lol.
  12. Previously: Out of the Ashes -Roadmonkeytj To hell (and back?) -Keymonus Meanwhile in Acropolis -Keymonus Charlatan Bay 618- Tristan had sent out a patrol to inspect the area around where the supplies had been unloaded. It wasn't long before the men came across a badly burnt cottage. This devastation is terrible … There's nothing here to save! Master Sergeant Dubois exclaimed. Do you think the rest of the island looks like this? A private whispered to another. However there was no time for a response as the patrol had been surrounded. Easy there fellas you jest ease them weapons towards the dirt an we 'ave no problems Savy! Two gun Jo' as the locals knew him had a heavy island accent as his mother was a native and his father a sailor of unknown origin and port . He was boasted to be able to shoot the cork off a bottle at 1,000 yards and not spill a drop of Bru-Haha. The Master Sergeant had not spoken the words to stand down. But the would be captors were already relaxing their aim. It was only moments later when a carriage clambered up the lane with a four horse team, something that you would have expected pulling a fire brigade not a private carriage. Dubois grew even more uncomfortable with the situation when he noticed the long retired Platoon flag flying from the carriage. A hardened man who wore a Navel Officers hat stepped from the carriage. Sergeant Marcel I presume? Master Sergeant! Retorted Dubois And just who do you think you are holding me and my men this way. I am Gustaf VonBricktin current major of Charlatan Bay. I presume Tristan is nearby we should go meet him and get those supplies to my warehouses so they can be safe. How do I know you are who you say you are? Marcel questioned. Gustaf responded. Well I was hoping knowing your first name would be enough Identification. Fair enough, but that Platoon flag flying from your carriage hasn't been used since the invasion of Pontilla so how did you come by it!? Marcel said Boldly. That's a Battalion flag Master Sergeant, Gustaf smirked as he corrected him and I didn't say how I did. You will have to find out how Tristan and I know each other some other time I'm afraid, but for now since you recognized it as a Oleander flag, it did it’s job. As Gustaf's team gathered round He explained to Dubois These are my hand picked private patrol we have more allies at my warehouses in town that support our cause. Now please Marcel lead the way to Tristan we are running out of daylight. Oh and Private . . . The old man in the Admirals hat cut in This cottage was not a victim of the volcano directly, you see it housed the stubborn Mr. and Mrs. Pontelli. Before it was reduced to cinders you could find the loveliest yellow flowers growing in the flower boxes and always a kept garden full of wild flowers by the lovely Mrs. Pontelli. If not from the volcano then how did it burn? the private asked. The old Man Explained One night a group of bandits were a foot and they came upon the cottage. They demanded money and rations. Then when Mr. Pontelli refused they broke oil lamps on the place and torched it with the couple inside. The horror these people must be heartless! The private exclaimed. But this place is in the middle of nowhere how do you know of such details? The Old man replied simply. Me and the misses hid in the fireplace until the cottage was lost and the looters had gone. Gentlemen shall we get moving? Gustaf questioned.... _______________________________________________ OoC: This continues the Joint Story of Out of the Ashes of Charlatan Bay. Comments and Criticism are welcomed Special thanks to @Keymonus for the inspiration of this story. Additional Pictures:
  13. @Phred the mayor pay for Charlatan Bay is there a form we missed when Kwatchi handed it to me?
  14. I like the direction the architecture is headed towards in Mesabi Landing. Also good work on the overhead track and crane. Although I would never want to unhitch a horse that high up. Most tracks like that would use turn tables to back the wagon in.
  15. I think this is my favorite so far... I'm glad you went with the historical pictures I really do think it makes it that much better!
  16. Lovely very lovely! Is there a reason the left window shade is brown and the right red? I really like all the plumbing you did as well.
  17. This is close but it looks as if cale has a double studded brick in between the wheels to attach the side plates on. I would assume then that the side frame is a continuous technic brick with the wheels spaced further, similar gearing to what you have shown though.
  18. I think this is well done indeed... Can't wait for the story of the masked man lol
  19. Lol maybe it was on sale at the second hand store? Lol
  20. Add a super capacitor then have a section of unpowered track either side of the slow zone. Or install a prox detector the program looks for to slow the train.
  21. What about a "speed restriction" through your section of track? You could put a Slow order flag by the track to explain it then wire that section of track separately with a resistor in line so that you don't have to physically slow the train. Also in reading I saw issues with DC interference... Shielding the wires may solve some of this noise. (foil tape hooked to ground) The thing to remember even about the active reader is they can't read if it's moving too fast as well (although they have a better read time)
  22. Looks like a swell lil festival... I'm sure fun was had by all. I like the way you staged the can toss game
  23. This is a swell looking house love the office and the story
  24. This is beautiful seriously!
  25. This really moves like I pictured a rail bus would the shaking with the uneven track was great! The video was really well composed. Overall this is a favorite of mine!
