  1. Wooo! Once you've built it, you'll want another.
  2. Wow. On that other thread I was proud I could pull 3 cars, but you've clearly got yours tuned in better. Do you have any weights inside the tender to hold it to the rails? Looks great!
  3. Thanks Brickster! No Target on our little island but ill check online. Happy Holidays!
  4. Brickster, not to keep the thread off the train town (which is really cool) but where'd you get those shelves for the trains? They have a really nice and finished look without visible brackets that would be approved by my wife.
  5. I'm sure you've done this but I always find pieces of string, dog hair, carpet, pine needles, etc. wrapped around one or both of the axles. There are other threads about opening the casing by cutting off the little tabs on the bottom. It's pretty straight-forward getting it open and maybe worth reading up on. A place to start anyway...
  6. Amazing. The Santa Fe train coincidentally has been on my mind today. I took it apart (every piece) and cleaned it with a soft cloth before rebuilding it. I can't imagine how amazing it would be to be a part of the team that is responsible for designing something that so many people love so much. Thank you for sharing your microset and a little history with us!
  7. I can honestly tell you that I would not be here, back in Lego, If it wasn't for the Emerald Night train. It does have issues with operating smoothly and there are fixes for that but even just sitting still it is pretty awesome. I have a modified tender with a 9V motor underneath that makes it run and powers the PF (newer) type lights on the front. I took out the actual motor on one of the old 9V units to power the lights while it sits on the shelf the rest of the year. Christmas time it gets it's motor back and cleaned up to go under the tree. In my opinion, the PF motor and battery box are unacceptably ugly on this beauty. I made a flat-bed train car for Christmas with Lego trees and brick built presents for the train and a small caboose. It looks great, was pretty easy to make, seems long enough to me and is light enough to run. Happy Holidays!!! (buy it!!!) :)
  8. Guys, I think he means the PF motor can replace the 9V motor.
  9. Ahhh looks like the Emerald Night and the Toy Story train had a baby... I love it!!! Although I'll probably mod it a little, this is the most excited I've been about a new train since the Maersk. ... Is that Sensei Wu's hat on the boiler? Interesting. The other sets look great too.
  10. Nice work! I love the brick built chairs. At 10 I would have just used the standard LEGO chair.
  11. HAHAHA! Good advice.
  12. Having used both systems I have to say that I completely agree with fred67's post about 9V benefits outweighing PF (who wants to tear apart their stuff just to replace batteries), but I would look for actual 9V track. Unless, of course, you already have PF track and want to run 9V. I wanted to add to my earlier post that it can be frustrating when applying the copper tape to find shorts in a completed train setup... Especially when the train stops on the back side of the Christmas tree and you have to walk through your Christmas village like Godzilla. It also seems that the train motors arn't as capable at hauling long trains on the copper tape than on standard 9V rails. They seem, uh, well, more wimpy. I have never, ever had any issues with safety with 9V or the taped tracks. I think some of the posts I've seen in this regard are a little paranoid perhaps.
  13. I did that with this: http://www.rockymountainglasscrafts.com/servlet/the-1684/STAINED-GLASS-COPPER-/Detail It works ok in a pinch but it's frustrating as a long term plan. It breaks and gets brittle. I set up my Christmas train last year using it and it served.
  14. Tired of my favorite MOC of any kind ever? No, don't think so. Post away!!!
  15. I was REALLY ready to hate the new show having grown up in the late '80's... HOWEVER, my wife got me back into Lego, Lego led me to EB, EB pointed me to this thread and this thread made me watch the new show. I really like it! I'm planning on buying as many of these sets as the wife lets me, after all, it was her idea.
  16. My feelings about basketball in general...
  17. Cool orange TIE Fighter mostlytechnic!!! Nice review too, very helpful.
  18. Yep. PF lights work great off the 9V motor with a conversion cable. The PF lights seem to be a little more blue than the old 9V light but you can't beat the price and you get 2 lights. I am happy with them on my 9V powered Emerald Night.
  19. Interesting. Must have felt like a huge leap forward at the time after shoveling coal.
  20. Thank you for taking the time to put it up there for everyone! My EN looks so lonely with just 1 car.
  21. Wow. That is so far beyond anything I could ever hope to build. Great Job! It sure is fun to watch it come together. A time-lapse video of one of your creations being built would be a lot of fun!
  22. One of my all-time favorite sets! Also one of the first sets I can remember building. I still have the battery box, siren and lights working but they have severely been "loved" since 1989 by me and my 2 younger brothers. So nice to be able to see it in this condition! For train people, I use the lights from this set on top of a 9V train motor under my 7722 locomotive to light my firebox! When the train is powered the lights glow, when it reverses the lights inside flash.
  23. Challenge accepted.
  24. Wow! What a beast! It looks great. With regard to the passenger cars, I love the look of the 2nd one (Santa Fe) with the green. The the grey trucks against the black of the locos trucks might look odd though.
  25. Agree 100%. If we were voting, that would be my list.
