Thanks both @ Big Cam - you can refer to the link provided at the beginning of the first post (which I edited for clearness) to see the P-40 Warhawk topic. Btw, that's a Photoshop-ed image, no decals used for that model. LuxorV

Very nice bank Righteous Squid! I love all the detailes you included both in the interior and on the exterior (especially those small gargoyles ). And you did a great job by including parts from other themes (like the two Indy pannels) to add decorations. (Just one tiny request: could you resize the fourth pic so that it is at 800 pixels max like the others, please? Thank you!) LuxorV

Thank you, lightningtiger. I'm currently working on the British airplane carrier, gathered the reference screenshots and ready to try a couple of solution for micro or mid scale first (I don't think I have enough bricks for a full scale version right now ). Indeed, thank you Izzy! I had to work a bit on the 'neck', to get it bulky enough, and the choice of piece for the head. I'm quite pleased with what I got in the end If anyone is interested, I can put the LDD versions of these three MOCs on BS. LuxorV

As you may know by having see these two topics in the MCW (purist custom minifigs) and Other themes forum (P-40 Warhawk plane), I'm currently working on a series of customs and MOCs based on the sci-fi liberty-styled film of which in the title of this topic. Here I want to introduce you my latest, and more sci-fi oriented, MOCs on this theme. Fisrt off we have the long-limbed thin-chested robot from the American base attack scene: Isn't it a beauty? you have to wander how can it walk on those legs, without getting unbalenced by his long arms, especially when lifting some weight, like Dex's body! Film pic for comparison Here you can see its height compared to a human/MF Now to the flying robot from the Tutenkopf's missil base/cavern: Take a look at the film's version I quite like how I reproduce it's look And finally, the flying platform thing, agian from the Tutenkopf's missil base/cavern: I wandered how this thing could work, and not liking the anti-gravity idea, I came to the conclusion it has some sort of electro-magnet which interacts with its metallic surroundings and the Earth's magnetic field. By modulating the power, you can go up and down, and you can move forward, backward and sideways by shifting on and through the field lines. Here is a scene from the film (Crowbar item from BrickForge): You can see on BS more pics of the Long-limbs and Flying robots as vell as of the Flying Platform. We close with a comparison pic of the two robots Hope you like them. Comments and critics are welcome. LuxorV

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

Here are the other characters! Dex Dearborn (Giovanni Ribisi): (Retro Raygun from BrickArms) 'Making a hole in a giant metal block' scene. Dr. Walter Jennings (Trevor Baxter) (I know he looks a bit young here, but it's because you can't see his white hairs under the fedora. That's all. Honest! ) Dr. Jorge Vargas (Julian Curry) and Dr. Kessler(Peter Law) (Dr. Vargas grow long mustaches in the process ) And finally, one of my favourite characters: Kaji (Omid Djalili) Hope you like them LuxorV -
Actually, it's a fact that every micro-organism like amoebas (an unfortunately viruses, too) do not die, unless they get eaten by other organisms, or decompose in other ways for changes in the environmental factors (a discusion on if they can be called 'animals' or not, and thus on the rightness of the title, is always possible). The real thing with animals (at least vertebrates) being 'mortal' (as in biology) has to do with the so called 'Hayflick Limit'. In few words, there seems to be a 'clock' of some sort into our cells, and when they make a certain number of divisions (generating new cells), they die. Scientists are still not sure about the reason behind this. In an iteresting sci-fi novel I read years ago proposed the existence of a spieces which did not have the Hayflick Limit proble: their cells kept on dividing. The problem is, when your brain's cells divide more that a certain number of times, new cells replace old ones, and you lose your memory. In that novel, these 'immortal' organisms were destined to die because their brains forgot how to control the breathing and heart actions. So, given we gain biological (or clinical) immortality, we'll have to face other problems. Coming back to the real world, there are some ideas on how to control and prevent cells' aging and decadence (and maybe surpass the Hayflick Limit). One of the more interesting ones is to keep cells clean, removing toxins and discard products which tend to poison them; but some say it is insufficient (see Alexis Carrel's experiment with chick heart fibroblasts). Another one is to rebuild the cells core from time to rime, trying to reset the clock and give them another full cycle of divisions. I'm no biologist, so I have just summarised what I gathered on this matter from various sorces, and I hope I did not write any folies. On a personal note, I find the thought of immortality (in the sense of living this life in this world and with my current body/brain/ memories) quite uncomfortable. To quote my beloved Douglas Adams: '[Only] Those who are born immortal instinctively know how to cope with it' (Life, the Universe, and Everything, Capther 1). LuxorV

Thanks! The levers seemed the best solution to reproduce the thin antennas/bars of the original plane. The other option (lightsaber blades on modified 1 x 1 bricks with headlight) seemed too thick to me LuxorV

Beautiful find, ACPin! Thanks for sharing it. LuxorV

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
LuxorV replied to LuxorV's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Thank you, Eilif! I have two smaller robots models ready, and I'm working on some design details for the bigger one. At the same time, I'm gathering reference material for the British plane carrier to start making its micro-scale version; a MF version may follow! You have no idea of how limited (apart from Angelina's shots) reference material there is on the net! LuxorV -
Hi carlq and Welcome to Eurobricks! See if any of these decals fits your request: Domino Mask V.1 Domino Mask V.2 Domino Mask V.3 Domino Mask V.4 Else, you could check also my old standard Nightwing Black mask. As for the bowler hat and umbrella, I fear I can't help, other than suggesting a simple brick-built umbrella design: Bar 4L Lightsaber Blade + Brick, Round 1 x 1 Open Stud + Cone 1 x 1 with Top Groove (or Cone 1 x 1 without Top Groove) [sorry I can't remember who was the first to introduce this design here, but I'm sure credits should go to someone ]. Let me explain: the robots and other sci-fi/steam punk models indeed go into your mighty realm ( ); but this tiny, simple little plane is just a military airplane model which is more fitted for the Other themes forum, isn't it ? Wait and see. Just wait and see! (I hope!) LuxorV

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
LuxorV replied to LuxorV's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Thanks NewRight I'm glad you like them, and for your movies' taste! Dex and some robots are on their way; I just need to fix a couple details and take the pictures Finally someone who isn't shy in saying he didn't like the movie! As for the yellow to flesh transition in Polly, try seeing the flesh 'neck' as a portion of her shirt Thanks The Penguin! I'm sorry to hear you didn't like the movie either (at least say you appreciate its style, yes? ) As you know, I like designing decals, but rarely use them I think it is more challenging to find the right combination of official parts, even if at times you have to add lots of imagination to make it go! MiniFigure Head decals (130 facial expressions)
LuxorV replied to Capt. Kirk's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
I think these are the best resolution he's got; but Capt. Kirk hasn't been around for a while now... LuxorV -
Thanks! For now, I have a couple of minor robot models ready. I'm gathering info and pics to build the giant robots, and then we'll see what comes next! And yes, the others seem more fitted for Sci-Fi Indeed, the shape is quite tricky, and I also wanted to test a few ideas, so I had to work for about 4 hours before getting a not-so-out design Thanks, L-space! I know the engine into fuselage part is the weak spot... I may provide a V.2 as soon as I get a better grip on the techniques (this is my third airplane MOC ever!). As for the British flying carrier... That'd be cool! I already have a couple ideas for it, but I'll probably go with a microscale version first LuxorV

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
LuxorV replied to LuxorV's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Thanks, awsomebrick. You should see it; even if I know not many people appreciate it, I think it is quite interesting, if not for the script at least for the peculiar style. I'm glad you like them, Mr.Walrus! And that head is definetly useful in a lot of MOCs, no only Pirate-y ones Thank you, lightningtiger. I'm planning an update in one or two weeks I think mostly smug, then heroic As said, I too love the style of the film. I'm glad you think I succesfully conveyed part of it in these figs LuxorV -
Hi everybody, this time I'm not going to present some new decals but just a bunch of purist figs. As you can see from the topic's title, these figs are based on characters from the film: (more pics of the P-40 Warhawk can be found in the Other Themes Forum) We start off in chronological order, so the first charcter is Polly Perkins (Gwyneth Paltrow): (other views: taking picture and scared) Follows Joseph "Sky Captain" Sullivan (Jude Law) (scared view) And we finish with cap. Francesca "Franky" Cook (Angelina Jolie) (lacking the toreador limited edition hat, I had to use the quite too big Pirate captain hat for her) A group shot: More charcters, like Dex Dearborn and some of the doctors may follow! Comments and critics are welcome. LuxorV

Hi all, I finally completed one of my long-planned MOCs: (the marks are digitally added on the model, no decals were used in this MOC) The build involves some techniques I experiment here for the second time (the other attempt may never be public ). Anyway, more views can be find in this Brickshelf gallery. Hope you like it, and comments and critics are welcome! More Sky Captain creations will follow, so keep looking for them LuxorV

LEGO Scrubs - figures and movie
LuxorV replied to legolooney's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Looking very good, legolooney. I especially like Perry Cox and the Janitor, mostly because they are my fav characters of the series: they really stand out with their unique and somewhat uncommon (for most TV series I watched) style. Your heads' choice is brillant! The only thing I'd change is the JD's hairpiece; I'd use dark brown instead of black . LuxorV -
You're welcome! It's always nice to see new customisers here Only if you want to use it in other non-vectorial programs or post it on the web LuxorV

Best way to use white in decals?
LuxorV replied to hicksdesign's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Now I get the point. Yes, it does make sense, and it's a typical problem of the clear decal paper: dark bricks will strongly influence the colour result. The only solution I know of is using white decal paper in these cases. Then again, you may face the problem of the paper influencing the dark colours (making them look lighter). I'm not aware of a 'final' solution for these questions. If anybody else will have further advice to share, we'll all improve our knowledge on the matter LuxorV -
Really superb job, Batbrick! I love how it is detailed in bot the interior and exterior, with details which seem to come right from the series and the game! The modular building is a really nice touch which allows to see the interior in every detail and perspective. The door to the safe is way better than the majority I've seen this far, both by TLG and in MOCs; and the gold bricks in the safe and paperwork in the upper floor look really nice there on the shelves. The only thing I'd like you to add is a background (even digitally, maybe?) with a street and a couple other buildings too feel how it merges it into the city. But I'm just being picky on this Great to see your creations again LuxorV

Welcome to the world of Pokémon!
LuxorV replied to tin7_creations's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Great job again on these, tin7 I imagined it wouldn't be so easy to make a perfectly round object onto a stand; but you managed to do that very well and to capture their peculiar expressions. And I imagine making the hollow line at the contact between the two hemispheres must have been quite challenging too Keep them coming! LuxorV
