  1. Thanks! The tree is made of five twisted brown chains. I was trying to get that old/large look on a four inch tree. It's a little gappy but I think it worked ok :) (for structure there is a brown lance down the center.)
  2. Avatar and the fall of Home Tree. Here's a last minute entry for the "Mi-Fi" - Microscale Sci-fi LEGO contest" depicting the scene where the Pandorian Home Tree is destroyed.
  3. I was just wondering if my original question about fantasy beasts qualifying as vehicles for a friends medieval fantasy application was considered? Having a friends figure riding a pink dragon or something wont really fit onto a 16x16 "remix" category. So do vehicles have to be mechanical? Thanks!
  4. All the stuff mentioned above is helpful. Also everything you were already thinking about can just be done bigger. Here is just an off the top of my head list of stuff found in a castle. Hopefully these will spark your imagination and piece usage rather than posting a ton of detailed pics. Items: Candles Suits of armor Family crests Carpet Stools Scrolls Paintings Bookshelf Mantles Mounted animals Plants Potions Curtains Chandeliers Training equipment Beds/Barracks Fountains Statues Vermin Structure: Windows Arches Recesses Tiling/wood flooring Drains Fireplace Stained glass Here are examples of some interiors we have done for small vigs. We will also be coming out with another larger one in the next week or so. Anyways, hope that triggers something for ya!
  5. For the vehicles category, can I build a fantasy beast/rider friends style? I know its not 'mechanical' but it would be a fantasy medieval 'vehicle'. What I have in mind couldn't fit into a 16x16 misc. category. Thanks! :)
  6. Loading the cart full of rare Mystic Island exotic honey! We are often exporting giant blackberries and Faerie Forest Honeycombs. Some pay a great deal for such tasty delicacies. Main thread Honey Bee Tree Forgot to post it here, in the commerce challenge! Not sure if It needed to be more than just a cart or if he needed to be in the act of selling, but it was created with this challenge in mind. If I need to make a follow up vig lmk. Thanks!
  7. Thanks so much and sure! Thanks guys for the comments! This one oddly enough looks better in person than in the photo :-/ Less busy and sparse (not sure how those two go together ;) Anyways Thanks a ton guys! :D
  8. This is a purist 8 piece brick-built sniper rifle, complete with chrome Mandalorian! :D This is another one of those 'sig fig gift' things we like to do :) So, Iron Sniper this one is for you. Chris is a awesome guy, known for building all kinda of quality stuff mostly ranging from mech to modern warfare. We doubt we need to say "Check out is stuff!" but perhaps say hi, or write nice things about him here. So consider this a quick break from castle and we hope you like our design for a brick-built sniper rifle.
  9. I see many of the people have mentioned their compatibility. Here are just a few qualifiers that jump to my mind that I think should me mentioned. 1. Yes it's true that the segment pieces are often a very tight fit. However the can also be a ridiculously loose fit depending on the age of the pen/era. And proportionately since the hole on the bottom is tight, the matching stud on the top is slightly smaller/loose. 2. The legs and torso of characters included... Don't quite fit normal people. It will go in most the way but then is stuck with around 3/4 of a plate left to go and starts to bend the legs for an insecure fit. Also the arms will be loose (and if I recall are very hard to remove). 3. The pen actual pen mechanical pieces... The rod/ink cartridge is difficult because it is thinner than a bar. The White click mechanism that looks like it would make a beautiful flamethrower nozzle is a pain to connect to anything, and the spring is very useful (as it can perfectly circumscribe a stud width). (as can be see in various MOCs we have created, we love dismantling the pen pieces and find most of their parts very useful especially the rubber grip :D) But the above are just some things to be aware of :) Anyways hope this helps!
  10. We have bees as well! Call the 'keeper a farmer, call him tradesman, but dont forget him on the battle field :) Charging with bears on the battlefield and loading catapults with hives, he helps make Avalonia a land not to be trifled with... and sweeter in the times of peace.
  11. The Honey Bee Tree in the Faerie Forest! Home to some of the world's sweetest honey and happiest bears. Not only is it an important source of honey, but it is also a Forestmen trading outpost. The Keeper of Bees is also a ferocious ally. Many cities have been captured after a couple of these were unloaded from catapults, to say nothing of the charging bears on the battle field. This was made for both the Guild of Historica and to fill in some of the gaps in a collaboration coming to a BrickFair soon ;) Honey! The joyful bee keeper of the Faerie Forest. He is the tamer of bears and harvester of honey. He does all he can to make the lives of the forestmen on the Mystic Isles just a little bit sweeter. The Faerie Forest is nearing its completion, stay tuned! :D P.S. Sean's actually been learning to be a bee keeper for more than a year now, and we bought our first personal hive about a week ago :) Yay us... Swing by some time for some honey!
  12. I think everything about the mechanics depends on the portcullis. One I am currently working on is a 1x1 brick thick, whereas lego's are a bar. Not only thickness but area and weight are a big thing. I would love to share some ideas, or walk people through the construction if it would help. So I guess, like many people have said, what do you have so far? From what I've read, I think you might be restricting yourself with the mechanism or by not using technic/bionicle. Other potential mechanisms you might want to consider would be something like a ratchet. This can be placed either on the gear/crank box itself, or on the tracks the gate slides in. The effect could yield a couple things. My personal favorite is the spaced out clicks when the portcullis catch points reach the hinged track prongs. Then at the top, when the lever for the track prongs is released, it can slam shut. If the ratchet is placed at the reel, then it can act more like an on off switch that you hit whenever your finished cranking. This method still lets you have it slam shut when you want. (And of course "slam" is only as fast as your reel can unwind. If your using chains, it can be pretty quick and cool sounding.) Lmk what you think, and if it would be helpful for a progressive MOC walkthrough. Otherwise we'll probably just post it when it's finished.
  13. This is a great moc! We are literally just about to finish a piece extremely similar. I just happened to be reading some of the titles in the Avalonian thread and saw "Keeper of Bees" and my first thought was 'for real?!' lol. Then I read the description about farming, trading, and basically everything I was hoping to apply our build too. lol So somehow I missed this, but I suppose our beekeeper will be Durams nephew or distant cousin on the Mystic Isles :D Anyways, wonderful build, and really well done :)! Hope it doesn't bother you that they'll be similar, it was completely unintentional. Guess Avalonia will have a honey monopoly! :D
  14. Are you the 'Missing Brick' bricklink store?

    1. Missing Brick

      Missing Brick

      Nope. I'm not. Sorry

  15. Awesome! He's so adorable, and we're really honored :) Love the brilliant little connections. From the pipe connecting the jaws to the breastplate tail connection, he is very well made. Sweet little build :D
  16. Heres a close up of the back!
  17. Artorious, Beneath the misty veil, this army you speak of... It truly does reside in the Faerie Forest. There are only several differences. 15 war elephants, 45 chariots, and a large number of powerful magical beasties from Giant Scorpians to Crystal Dragons. For now, only Siercon has come to the battlefront. If things change, or anyone attacks the Faerie Forest on the Mystic Isles... They should be prepared to face more than a thousand warriors with hundreds of mighty heroes. (before the inevitable observation... no we did not spend a fortune on them, over time we've just gotten really lucky, and have steadily built and saved :)
  18. Thank you, here is another one of our similar brick built horse. Both had their legs specifically inspired by MicahBerger Thank you! Ah yes, we have responded with a boring non committal loyal to Avalonia, but in defence of our Drow friends response. Basically, if you lose we will give you sanctuary ;P Sure! I have one from a back toppish angle... Ill have to try to see if I can find it when I get home. Yay! Someone noticed :P Thanks! Yeah the second we saw your Mystic Isles, we were like "We want to be there!" Thanks for leading the Avalonian charge! Thanks! We really appreciate when people see it so. :) Thank you very much. Means a lot. I think the little brick built pegasus would rather go of and live in "Above the Clouds." Glad you like the tree, figured it might be a useful new easy technique (anyone can feel free to use). Hummm.. we may have to check out that book :) And again, thanks everyone for the comments! :)
  19. A most excellent reply. Few people know of our relation to the Drow, this was a keen catch. And as far as offering all of Avalonia if we help conquer, this is an offer one shouldn't refuse. We especially know it was not given lightly, and are honored by this gesture. By no fault of yours, this which would have completely captured us many years ago, is no longer tempting. Our time for ruling was passed on. Only an exceedingly great need will make us break our spectatorship in the politics of man, and seek out war. That being said, we will ride out to the forefront of the battle to maintain the lives of a selected few. Needless bloodshed of either brethren breaks our heart, but rarely will we intervene except for those chosen. If your straits become dire, we will protect your life, offer sactuary in defeat or freedom from assassins. This already will anger some Avalonians. But if our Avalonian leaders lives are in the balance we will be there to aid them in battle. If our worst fears should align and our king or noble friends faces you or select members on the battle field... Then the earth has seemed to call for a sacrifice. For the rest of the Drow, who plow headlong at us in battle versus those who pause and chose another path... we will kill immediately without guilt.
  20. Name: Siercon and Coral Rank: Keeper of Mystic Isles Age: Unknown Weapon of Choice: Siercon: Black Short Sword; Coral: Turquoise Katana History: Siercon and Coral have lived on the Mystic Isles for as long as anyone has heard their name. As a territory shrouded deep in the country of Avalonia, little is known about them or the Mystic Isles. It is said that they are faerie lovers, or mages that found eachother after a long journey through other worlds. Now they wander the Mystic Isles together, nurturing all kinds of living magic and mythical beasts. Artorious was one of the few that often stepped upon the mystic shores before establishing the Avalonian order. Still, Siercon and Coral are rarely seen. They often use messengers and it is rare that one can take a look beyond the misty vale. Their loyalties and magic have been found to be dependable, though their presence sporadic. They are the Elvish Faerie rulers that one never counts in time for the battle, but will often brighten the sky in their late arrival. And now they ride to join a select group of Avalonian Warriors known as the Dragon Flight, providing mystic compliments of magic to the battle ready leaders. This was a time of reuniting with old friends, and possibly a great war. In these troubled times with the Drow, Siercon and Coral ride under the flag of Avalonia. However with some strong ties among the Drow, it is not with bloodlust but with forbearance that may have to tend to their fallen elvish brethren.
  21. On the border of the Mystic Isles, the surf beats against the magical island spring. Some say it is the fountain of youth, others swear tis where the Sirens call. But if they were there on this day, it might have been called ‘Pegasus Springs’. It stands as the farthest island within the borders of the Mystic Isles. And it is from this place that Siercon, atop his Pegasus, takes the final leap before soaring for the mainland to join the Dragons Flight. 22. I think it's easy for many of us to think that you need to plate or tile a moc in order to get this snow effect. At least I generally assumed you needed to on stuff other than the ground. Fabulous job showing how white 'Snow' bricks can be incorporated into things other than the ground :) It works especially well with that log pattern.
  23. You can always brick build something, like antlers.
  24. Very nice. A rather pleasant scene for marching to war :D. The bagpipes mixed with dunedein-like people looks great.
  25. Oh no, they have not dared to come as far as the Mystic Isles, we are just going to join you on your front. Sorry for the confusion. That messenger is now doing the dishes.
