  1. Well, Sigh... Um... If there is still a slot this challenge for a free build, we are fighting for that. We are going to finish the Faerie Forest. We labored as to how to incorporate an elemental terrorizing it and simply didn't have the heart to have it burning, or ripped apart by a tornado :P Besides its 18 baseplates...(There isn't a size restraint for the FB is there?) So yes we'll be there to try to claim the free build slot. But It's unlikely we'll be able to transform part of it into the specific challenge before BrickFair. :) + :( That still gets our team some points right? :) Regardless we shall try to add to the epicness of Avalonia!
  2. Haha " those slivers of yellow or red in that tiny crevice or corner" Way back when, when we started building, our goal (and still is) is to have a whole wrap around world for 'Lego gaming' in some large room :) and those red slivers do tend to poke through in some very rare instances. Lol I just call them 'a very rare ore' that if a character acquires you get to upgrade your weapon or exchange it for a lot of gold! :) So i guess we've deceived ourselves into almost liking them :D LOL this made me laugh, :) well said :P Come ya'll lets place'm last in this challenge! ;)
  3. This looks great... :D Yeah, fabulous job! I think its going to look really good :D, and I'm glad you didn't go the evil demon root. There's a nice elegance to flame that can still be feared. I guess one question I have for ya is do you have orange cheese wedges? They may look nice with varying background plates to fill in texture (and we would be happy to send you a cup full! :D Shoot us a message if you like :) Also if you're not going for the 'lonely phoenix' approach here are some 'shoulder sized/micro phoenix's we've made that could imply multiple phoenix's in the distance over your micro portion. (totally not trying to promote our own stuff, sorry!) Either way, you obviously have an awesome MOC planned for this challenge. We are greatly looking forward to it :D
  4. Over here our rainbows are only red :P We seem to use every other color of the rainbow for something... And we haven't succumbed yet, but we've been awfully tempted to add megablock to the structure LOL. Something about making it at the "heart" of our mocs deters us :P
  5. "Nothing is so strong as gentleness. Nothing is so gentle as real strength." On the edge of the world he has found his peace. So here is what happens when the Faerie Forest's river flows off the end of the table. This was a pretty quick build to have the river flow off the table for kicks :P. If your going to this up and coming Brickfair this is a small part of what you'll see :D See you there, and stay tunned! The final Faerie Forest is coming...
  6. The sadness!! :,( It was epic, and now its broken pieces shall construct the most awesome of all... _____s? well? well? castle maybe? :) Also, I like how the Avatar was leading the troops lol.
  7. This is a wonderful build. The 'parts intensive' stonework looks excellent! Great job on all the little detail while keeping the moc pristine and clean. :)
  8. Your roof changes had a huge effect. Great job! I have one thought that all of us house builders have to deal with... Topography :ominous voice: Your at the point where the beautiful house would love to be transplanted :( Its always easier to do build a house on a nice flat plate, and then a real pain to transplant it, but i have never regretted it! Steph has made me do this multiple times when i didnt want to. Looking at the MOCs we've posted, you couldn't believe how many were almost posted without the land that they did end up posted on. So... with that said, i think you should put this on some varying terrain ;) Also little things like vines or plants stuck to the walls make for a great effect. Excellent work!
  9. Well the extra effort shows, as the tree looks the best :D Great job. There's still lots of time left though! I sincerely usually build everything twice... once when I get the inspiration, and the second when it either falls off the table (or some equivalent), or I go to sleep and wake up to find it far less epic than I thought the night before lol. As far as what can be improved, i think basically clarity. Give it the Mom or friend test. That's usually helpful. Bring it to them and be like "Here look what i built!" if they are like... oh cool nice tree.... then maybe that's the clearest bit. If they're like... 'uh what is it' consider revamping a bunch to eliminate confusing parts. Also if you dont have enough green plates to tile the whole thing, dont bother with it :) I know we wouldn't have enough. Maybe try a snot base? You have a great start! Keep it up :)
  10. Well unfortunately we have a major convention in 12 days, and are trying to lead a large collaborative. Basically we've had to build off topic but can promise a massive free build :) 'Faerie Forest' completion ETA 10 days. Count'm Down :D! Yahooo
  11. Fabulous! Really nice to see a bunch of great builds by one person in one place. Great job! Now were just praying that the transportation of the Faerie Forest won't be a failure for us lol... I never knew how scary traveling could be until we got into conventions...
  12. Looks great! :) As everyone has said, the window and candles and snow effects are very nice. Personally I like the life and the creativity behind the magic action. It really makes you picture the mage summoning beams out from the ground.
  13. Start small :) and accumulate. You don't build a 'large scale' moc right from the start. There are many techniques to learn and hundreds of new pieces that have been created during you've played legos. I would encourage you to start a Flickr account and learn as much as you can, and find people whom you'd like to build like. If you like Derfel Cadarn's style of building then go through his whole photostream and look for all the little techniques from plants to stonework. Join lots of groups that focus on specific things like Lego arboretum where you can learn to make plants, or lego landscape. And add us and lots of other people as contacts! :D. But again, I really encourage you to start building one little house, then put it out of your mind and build another. Build a tree, or a bush (high quality) just focusing on making it look really good then put it aside and build another. After awhile you'll have enough quality elements to unite and make a great MOC. After repeating that process you can create a whole village, and then a little kingdom. But everyone who starts those large MOCs has usually started with a single house. ;) And yes bricklink is your best friend and your wife's worst enemy... (though the search engine on the site can get annoying) Keep in touch! Sean & Steph
  14. Oh good :) What were the dimensions of the grill gonna be? 8x8? the second piece link you posted is pretty thick (I've had trouble taming that piece). Flex tubing always works, but that's sortof a default lol. Sometimes I wonder if I should just make a moc completely out of flex tubing as a joke to people like Steph and I who use it all the time :P.
  15. ^Agreed. Looking great :D Here are some things you might want to tweak/play around with: His eyes. They currently have the Islanders tiki head expression. Without changing your actual structure I would play around with different kinds of eyes. Good eyes can communicate life, soul, intelligence, personality and element. You might want to try making inward facing acute triangles out of a variety of trans pieces to convey those things. >.< with some eyebrows .\ /. (dk. green root vines might suit this guy :) Hands and teeth communicate power and rage. This guy could easily have a huge mouth if you wanted, might even make it easier. Rock monsters can sometimes be disjointed : ] So I'd worry more about making each body part smooth and proportional rather than feeling like you have to connect it immediately. It's looking great and epic though! keep it up :D Looking forward to the final MOC!
  16. Oh no! don't cut up a net :( what are you trying to do, maybe we can help? :D message us if you'd like
  17. I'm pretty sure I said this elsewhere but this MOC is awesome. Love the contrasting clean and beautiful colors. Very well done :D we will bookmark this over here for when we decide to join in the building of snow castle mocs ;)
  18. Cool :cough: little moc! I think the ice looks perfect, and as people have said the little snow footprints are great :) At first glance I totally thought the other guy was just gonna walk off without him lol. Maybe cause he looks a little calm, "just another day in the frozen tundra" :P Great job :)
  19. Haha well it seems like lots of people are claiming many of the Mystic Islands, so it might be nice if you could give us one or two of the northern ones before they're all gone lol. And you'll probably want to use a large conifer tree to mark the "Faerie Forest". Thanks!
  20. Thanks! His limbs are all posable, they cannot rotate outward, but all 'bicycle' motion is possible. Thanks a ton, we dont build often with just bionicle, but we often (especially in creatures) use bionicle elements to augment or give strength. So not really, but all the time lol. We were given a rare PaB gift when one of our stores took down their Friends displays. And it was my birthday (but they didnt know that lol) The tail specifically can easily droop. the individual curves are perfectly posable but it's maybe 3 studs too long or 2 plates too narrow at the tail base to fully be 'posable'. But the technique is typically very strong. This one just needs to be slightly more balance or the tail will fall slightly horizontal (which honestly is ok.. just wanted it to fit into a 32x32) And we ran out of 1x2 pink plates lol. ;P That and the pokemon ninetails were most definitely in my mind when building this :) Thanks! Thanks so much! We are big fans of many of the final fantasy games :) Thanks so much everyone!! Sincerely Sean & Steph
  21. Here's another free build :) Unless we want to say its the ... uh... elemental of love or something, and have it terrorize a little Naruto village ;P http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=71461
  22. Thanks for the consideration! http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=71461 This was the MOC result :) Slightly larger than the 16x16 for the mixture category, and a medieval fantasy mount similar to many we have made in the past. So.. vehicle?... Well I look forward to hearing back from ya, for a verdict. Figured asking questions a with a month left in the contest would be best, and didn't to miss out on making a friends hybrid :D Anyways lmk what you think, sorry for stretching rules, and i'll fix the name with the category after I get your thoughts. Thanks!
  23. The pink Faerie Fox. An enchanted creature of lore said to be glowing with the hearts and hopes of mankind. Also known as the ninetails or the Faerie Fox. This was built for the Friends contest on Eurobricks. Also as part of our continued Faeire Forest in Avalonia. Hope ya like it :D
  24. We also have conifers in Mystic Isles. The layout on whichever Island we're on is more or less conifers at the heart and then slowly increasing in deciduous the closer you get to the shore. Yeah, Maryland is the same way. Too bad its all new growth and no forest here is over a hundred years old :-/ But yeah, compared to the rest of the world (definitely in the usa) your area (including Michigan) and middle east coasts have some of the most diverse species of trees. Go to Cali, and you'll simply need to memorize five trees to identify 95% of'm. As far as location, Lego conifers are probably the easiest to fudge. Various species can be found in wet, dry, elevated, rocky, and low lying areas. Just please no one place a river birch on a snow covered mountain. ;)
  25. Thanks! We'll see how the Friends Contest pans out but we definitely heard your SciFi call and are greatly considering a spacey twist to enter into that competition... Though its looking more like medieval fantasy for now (...shocker :P) But we definitely like keeping in touch with our SW, ST, SG, and Dwho hidden inner Lego people. :) Thanks everyone for the kind comments! They are much appreciated and we're grateful to build in a community like this one. Cheers!
