General Part Discussion

I also experienced issues with softer link, but with the yellow on the D11 thought. With any given thread tension, it will snap or lose the threads if you try to climb hard things too much (like another lego RC for sumo fight for exemple). BUT : with the same thread stucture, mounted with old black links it doesn't snap even if you tension it enough so it can never lose threads. (The rest of the toy is different so it do not have the same weight, but it's in the same range)- 5,459 replies

Yeah, delivery time of pieces are a big issue for contests since they sometime take a whole month and once you have the special parts you see it doesn't work so you need a new shipment and another month etc. Since I'm not the only one with slow delivering issue I would take any tips, and if the subject is really relevant it maybe need a dedicated topic (if not already existing) -
Questions about pneumatics
LegoTT replied to pekka111's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Being an autovalve it's a motorised switch AND a pump. If you want multiple motorised switch and only one pump a smaller way to go is worm gear and 24t gear. I don't know if in this example the switch was tweaked tough, indeed switch can be made more smooth : You can see in this example that there is one more version of switch, I think that the first one (without pinhole) is the stiffest. The previous example didn't use the oldest switch, you may have one because it's so stiff, but here is a contraption proving you can switch it with the worm gear / 24t gear combinaison even with the weakest lego motor : -
With the title, I expected some kind of computer contraption...

About stability and body weight reduction, have you considered to go on a slighty bigger scale and put one motor or small battery box https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=4760c01#T=S&O={"iconly":0} IN each leg (weight touching the ground instead being in the body), going up trough the leg with cardans at high rotation speed low torque and massive worm gear reduction just before the walking mechanism ? According philohome : https://www.philohome.com/motors/motorcomp.htm Three (3) 2838 motors https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=2838c01&name=Electric, Motor 9V 5 x 4 x 2 1/3 with Black Axle and Dark Gray Base&category=[Electric, Motor]#T=S&O={"iconly":0} (48 gram each) give as much power than a PF XL motor and we can put one batterybox in the 4st leg (about 64 gram filled with the battery) I don't know if you can have full power of three 2838 motor with only one 9v battery tough, but I think that this battery box doesn't have current limitation so it will rely on the exact brand of 9v battery, some of them are engineered to have a smaller internal resistance.

Thank you ! If a pin can't fit in it, maybe a 1x1 brick can ? And if si maybe it would be at the right height if there is a vertical plate like in this picture ? https://imgur.com/a/vs2fPEh- 5,459 replies

So the lego weight #73090b https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=73090b&name=Brick, Modified 2 x 6 x 2 Weight - Bottom Sealed, Dimple on Ends&category=[Brick, Modified]#T=S&O={"iconly":0} can have a hole at both ends. I can see from the instructions from the listed set with this part on brickink that it is exactly 2 bricks tall, but I fail to find any instruction using the holed version. So I can't really know at which hight are the holes... If I put the weighted brick on a big plate and a Brick 1 x 2 with Hole #3700 https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=3700&idColor=85#T=S&C=85&O={"color":85,"iconly":0 on its side, will the holes be aligned ? Will they be aligned if I put the brick 1x2 on a plate ? On two plates ? Regards.- 5,459 replies

Advanced Lego robotics
LegoTT replied to pekka111's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
You can buy cheap used electronic stuff on bricklink.com The oldest it is, the more available ressource on how to make it work with a PC or how to tweak it. There is a ton of builds like this one : Also, the oldest it is, the more reliable lego compatible stuff like actuators, captors or stuff there is, like this one : https://www.mindsensors.com/home/34-ev3-sensor-multiplexer-for-ev3-or-nxt.html Hope this help. -

You ask for instructions so I assume you know how to order parts. No instructions, but if you choose this thing I can in a few days make several short movies of dismanteling of a clone of this with my own parts, and putting them in reverse so you have a sorta building movie. -
There is a sorta way, it is, when you need a part from an old WIP, to not just take it just the part but dismantel it enterely while filming it. It's not time consuming if you don't work on this old WIP often, and when you want to do it, you use the movie in reverse as a notice of construction. So you just need some discipline (I didn't, wanted to work on the new thing instead) and a folder for your WIP movies.

This tread... So beautiful, I understand now the appealing to work on lego cao, you can have atonishing models with unlimited system parts, and it give you a perfect save of your past work that you can start again where you left them. With technic part you don't need so much parts if you ignore panels so only physical build is possible and it's quicker I guess, but you will need to dismantle your oldest unfinished project to get that one part without waiting for a new order so you lose your work. I'm glad to see you achieve to start a so glamorous serie given the fact it was all unfinished things, it give a lot of value IMO especially if it can speed up you. I posted WIP twice for this very same reason hoping contests deadlines help in a similar though of yours, but it didn't work for me.

Your design for this front drived axle sound sturdy ! And you deal with high electric power for Lego there, so if the front gears happen to click under full power, you can use this trick that can deal a beating : -
My mechanical clocks
LegoTT replied to Davidz90's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
A day to design the majority of the stand and a studless clone of the clock (for visual coherence) without the extra gears that make the stock version versatile to use multiple pendulum lenght, I don't need this feature and using this removing to make it more symetrical in an attempt to get a 30 hour working with a 15 times heavier weight and within a 11x15 stuless frame (3 more 40t gear to get x40 instead x3 right after the weight) a loooong wait to get all the needed pieces and then a long wait to have some time to work on it (I guess my newphen will have a nice picture of the WIP for his birthday, his mother will already ger him the curiosity rover it will be too much at the same time he is young let's see how he can build it) Obviously it doesn't work, I just putted your stock clock on my stand with temporary enhanced rigidity with the recommanded weights to understand the key things and it's soooooooo beautiful to see it working, thank you for that. Oh, now I wrote this it doesn't move anymore, get I have some work ahead !
