  1. Pete responds, "oh, in regard to the light in the tower, it's a fresnel lense. Most lighthouses in these parts had them to guide incoming ships away from treacherous reefs; especially with the fog in these parts. These lights are usually yellow, but I've heard of some being a greenish hue. Never knew this old mansion had one though, as I've never seen it. This may explain the mysterious green lights seen from a distance. I just wonder who was using the light and why"?
  2. Crowley's Bedroom Inserting the silver key into the small single wooden door... CLICK... unlocks the door. :) Inside is a small modest bedroom that must have been Dorian Crowley's sleeping quarters. Within the octagon-shaped room is the following: - A queen-sized bed covered with a simple grey down comforter and two dusty pillows. - A small wooden reading desk with a single chair and a pen. - Atop the desk is a green brass bankers lamp, a book, and some papers. - A small nightstand with a pair of reading glasses, a glass of water, and a set of false teeth. - A coat rack with a thin red sweater - Two doors along the East and South sides of the room.
  3. While I love pirates as well, and have used castle sets for port buildings, Lego has offered numerous pirate sets over the years, as opposed to Western sets. Wild West was a short-lived theme and I saw the re-releases sitting on shelves for quite some time. Expanding this line would have been great when there are so many possibilities for the line (esp. historically speaking). We had the Northern troops but never the South. I wanted more outlaws, more buildings (church, saloon, stables, etc), and a western train with cattle car (like Playmobil had in the 80s). A Mexican cantina or Alamo would be great additions (mini-figs with sombreros and big mustaches), and a Mexican army, gun smugglers, and a desert village with cactus - great sub-theme. A lot of possibilities for expanding this theme. Perhaps one day.
  4. The Fort and the Sheriff's Office was re-released in the US as well as a few of the larger Indian sets. I never liked the Indian sets as well as I did the cowboys. My only complaint was that Lego only made a few outlaws that kept re-appearing in each of the sets. I liked the traps in the sets and the exploding parts in the wagon, bank, and jail. Maybe we'll see the Wild West sets re-appear one day.
  5. Agree with you 100% Sting. I loved the Wild West theme as it was original and new to Lego (in mini-fig scale). I was hoping for a wild west train sub-theme with better steam train, windmill, western street, etc. Fort Legorado, Gold City Junction, and the Old Mine/Hideout were among my favorites. I loved these sets and still do. I had a MOT Steam Train and cars circling my western town for a couple years before I decided to wreck it, but I enjoyed these sets greatly - esp. the cavalry. I've posted this before, but I would have loved to see a Civil War or Mexican/American theme with an Alamo and a Mexican Village. Great set for the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. In any case, Westerns just aren't as popular any more with dragons, mythical creatures, and video games on the market.
  6. No blood on the wrench, and from what you remember of the body, no grease on Crowley's head.
  7. The wrench and tools are very greasy (mostly at the useable ends); probably from having been used on the gears of the rotating lens. No visible fingerprints. XWingYoda has possession of the large wrench and other items in the toolbox. Athos has possession of the rubber mallet.
  8. The light shines a long beam of light out to the ocean. You can't see anything that it lights. GONK! Pete asks, "what was that for"?
  9. The tool box contains a large wrench that is rather greasy, various screw drivers, a grease can, a rubber mallet, and a lighter. All of the tools appear to be very dirty from the grease and oil. The barells contain oil for the lens. Pulling the lever turns on the bright green fresnel lens as it turns around shining down into the darkness of the waters below. The intense light heats the cold tower room.
  10. You walk up the stone steps spiraling upward until you reach the top of the tower. Behold, you have a magnificent 360 degree view of the surrounding areas. Outside the glass windows of the tower, you see a few lights of Point Heceta to the south and to the north, only the darkness of the mysterious ocean. A small light can be seen to the northwest, perhaps an island. Within the center of the room is a large fresnel lens, greenish is color. The light is off at this time but there is a lever on the wall that may turn on the lens. Several gears and pullies are attached to the underside of the lens. A large wooden toolbox sits on the floor next to two wooden barrels.
  11. Xwingyoda has possession of the revolver with the six bullets and Akkhraziel took the knife. The other items were left within the various rooms they were found.
  12. The Tower Pete is rather intoxicated from the effects of the Norwegian wine, but alas, he is ready to continue this mystery. On this very cold February night, with light snow falling on the roof, you once again open the trap door in the library to climb to the roof top. A walk along the perimeter of the shingled roof of the attic leads to the North wall of the tower were you find the single wooden door. Creeeek... you hear as you open the door when a chilling winter sea breeze blows on your back. You quickly enter the tower to find a spiral staircase leading up in to the darkness of the tower...
  13. You can attempt to try the combination on the lockbox if you would like. Posted previously (referring to the china cabinet and lockbox): Drawer 6: a small safe/valuable box with a three-digit combination lock. On the box is a small note that says, "five attempts to open this lock will result in rendering the lock useless and seal the contents for good". The combination has the numbers now set to 3 0 0. A small red button appears under the lock.
  14. You return to the kitchen where you climb down to the wine cellar, then down lower to the subterranean passage. The air is cold and smells of the ocean. Goosebumps form on the back of your neck... You walk toward the gate attempting to unlock it with the silver key. The key does not fit this lock...
  15. Rather than providing you a list of all the clues and items you discovered, I would recommend you review the INDEX which provides a complete history of what you've found. To name a few items that remain outstanding: - the gate in the subterranean pasage remains locked - the door to Crowley's bedroom remains locked - you discovered a lockbox in the dining room china cabinet that remains locked (three-digit combination) - you did not discover the meaning of the symbols found in the dining room - you did not explore the tower - Darkie has a silver key that she found in the attic
  16. The Mystery Continues Four months have passed and Crowley Mansion rests in a blanket of snow. Litigation over the Crowley estate continues and most of the Eurobrick detective team has returned to Europe. During a recent EuroBrick convention in Billund, you shared your stories of the Mystery at Crowley Mansion with fellow Eurobrick friends, many of which were interested in knowing more about the unsolved mystery. Darkie realized that she kept the silver key that you found in the attic. Perhaps the key unlocked another door to the unsolved mystery. Stories quickly turned to discussion regarding the possibility of returning to Crowley Mansion when you found yourselves on the phone with Pete Falklin. Pete was not interested at first, but after some convincing, he agreed to locate the keys to the house and meet you on a specified date at the manor. This time, your team includes a few new players, some who simply want to observe as you venture through the mysterious rooms of Crowley Mansion; others who may be hiding sinister secrets. Pete Falklin Mr. Lego Builder Chewie Darkie Akkhraziel SuvieD Bloody Jay Xwingyoda Languages Athos and a few other who may be catching up with you later (anyone may participate) On a particularly cold and dark February night, you make your way up the snow covered hill to the mansion were you find Pete waiting for you. The front doors have been boarded, but luckily, Pete has a crowbar. He pries off the boards and uses his key to unlock one of the large double doors. Fortunately, the authorities did not change the locks. The door creeks open and you find yourself inside Crowley Mansion... :^^D
  17. Nice job Steve. Not too many people are in to the Wild West theme. I'm going to make a boot hill with the new HP graveyard set. I like your vignettes as well.
  18. We've just about got the Viking palette loaded in the factory, but we're missing just a few pieces. Will this be OK until then?
  19. Actually MLB- you guys did pretty good at finding the clues. The symbols gave you the most difficulty, but you found most of the rooms with the clues provided (when you put your heads together). I think limited participation made it much more difficult.
  20. Please see the separate poll to possibly continue the mystery: Continue the Mystery
  21. Upon request by SuvieD, I will consider continuing the mystery if this poll gets a lot of feedback FOR continuing. Anyone can participate.
  22. Bloody Jay, the article also states what I believe TT is saying: "The word
  23. My comliments to the following for their efforts toward solving the mystery: mr. lego_bildur 68 posts Athos 56 posts xwingyoda 54 posts Darkie 25 posts Bloody Jay 24 posts Bloody Jay, thank you for all of your efforts to build the mansion and provide photographs. I wish you had taken a few more, but great model any way. Something you should all know: Each character had a bio that was privately given to them. One clue was given to each character about another character. Most of you provided that information during introductions, but some of you kept out certain information. In addition, private information was provided to characters as "Information your character would know" as the story was progressing. Having only 1/3 to 1/2 of you participate, this made character clues very difficult. These clues were deeply integrated in to the story line and without them, trying to deduce who committed the murder was difficult. I had to substitute clues since interrogation of one another was not possible (like how you drilled Athos re. the letter with his signature). He actually knew more about the letter than the rest of you as others knew more about other clues. This added to the story and provided a way to make it unique based upon the character bios - unfortunately it did not work with limited participation. There was much information you never found out. In any case, I see that participation dwindled down to just a few people with infrequent posts, so decided to end the mystery. In the future; if I do another mystery, I will not limit participation and only provide character bios for active participants. Otherwise, the same issue will arise. Thank you to those who participated since July 4. I hope you enjoyed the mystery. Maybe you can return to Crowley Manor one day...
  24. LV- why don't you go ahead and start your mystery (if the webmaster(s) don't mind). Mystery at Crowley mansion has had minimal interest over the past few days from the 3-4 people out of 12 who originally signed up. Maybe something new is needed at this time.
  25. The Unsolved Mystery After giving the mystery at hand much thought, Pete states, "I think it is time that we bring this mystery to an end". The Brickster knods his head disappointedly in agreement with Pete, as you hear loud banging coming from the first floor. The authorities have arrived and begin chopping down the door with hatchets, eventually breaking it open. They ask Pete a series of questions regarding Dorian Crowley and the mansion. Where is old man Crowley? Did someone murder him? If so, who did it, why, and how? Aside from Mr. Crowley's murder, these questions remained unanswered and the mystery unsolved. One of the police officers states, "Paradisia was not granted rights to the Crowley estate and will be unable to build they're mega-resort Pete. Paradisia plans to appeal the case and if Crowley is dead, the estate will go to his next of kin". Pete replies, "If memory serves be correctly, I remember that old man Crowley had a great grand daughter or grand son who lived somewhere in the south of France, but not much was known about her/him. I suppose we'll never know what really happened to Dorian Crowley". Mystery at Crowley Mansion remains unsolved. Maybe one day, its mystery will be unlocked... Until then, good luck solving future Lego CLUES Mysteries. The Brickster
