Watch it now! Robber's Retreat is my favorite of the Ninja theme.

Nice review of a neat little set Norro. I like little sets like this. Just a few figs, something very easy to build -and a nice intro to a theme or supplement.

Awesome MOCs. These are grea! I see some techniques that I can use.

no, not a ninja forum... i'll take a western forum though :-D :-D :-D...wait, i might be the only one in it |-/ - BrickMiner I voted no, but I like SW. I concur with BM in regard to NOT having a separate Ninja forum nor a separate WW forum. I miss the days when Pirates were part of the History/Adventure forum. I find myself not even visiting the Stockade because it's just limited to pirate-related topics. It's too much. The same would happen to SW or whatever theme you create as a stand alone forum. This is one of the things I like most about Eurobricks. The diversity is fun. As you start separating themes, it becomes more like a Web Site desicated to a single theme. *sad* *sad*

Me either. I think the designer must have spent a lot of time building this. The detail is excellent.

Some Pirate-esque Adventures mocs by Polska95
WesternOutlaw replied to oo7's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Must stay in History and Adventure! I thought all the pirates are locked in the Stockade! :-D The library is awesome! I love the upper section and the ceiling. I even see the detailed Egyptian artifact section behind glass. That's great detail. As far as the Islander MOC goes, that's great too. Great perspective. -
Historic MOCs/Themes Inspired by Movies
WesternOutlaw replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I really like sci-fi and use to read quite a bit of it, but no matter how many times I watch 2001, Space Odyssey, the only inspiration I get is to take a nap. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz *sad* -
You could call this the Yin Yang Lego philosophy, and a good theme to discuss it.

We drifted off the subject, but returning: I constructed Palace of the Three Gems similar to Curse of the Mummy. The concept was fairly simple, and that is building from the inside out. It's a concept that I never really practiced; always concerned more with how the outside looked. It makes creating detailed scenes possible.

Orient Expedition (OE) Quiz

No, actually though, I thought the mods frowned on it. Like I said above; however, I don't mind at all. -
I can't wait to see pictures of the sea port. I hope it will be along the classic line, as opposed to the new City theme. Lego has another chance to do this right.

Historic MOCs/Themes Inspired by Movies
WesternOutlaw replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I mentioned that after watching the newest version of the Mummy, I was inspired to collect the Lego Desert/Egypt Adventuer sets, but the inspiration came long befor the movie. Below is a non-Lego toy that I received for Christmas/Birthday when I was a child: G.I. Joe came out with an Adventure Theme that included sets like this called the Secret of the Mummy's Tomb. They were awesome sets! Secret of the Tomb had an ATV that had six large black wheels giving it the ability to float in the water; and a hoist and net to pull the mummy from a dig. Tools like a pick and shovel added to the playability. Classic toys like this bring even more inspiration to Lego themes. The memories of playing with them last forever. I just wish I still had the toys. -
Historic MOCs/Themes Inspired by Movies
WesternOutlaw replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Interesting. You say movies aren't inspiring, but yet movie posters are. I enjoy reading and writing too, but yet I still enjoy watching a movie, and sometimes, a certain movie will inspire me to build a MOC. To me, a movie is just like a poster or other picture, because it's a visual of something or theme that you may want to create in Lego. I had seen King Kong, and wanted to build a large adventure ship. Maybe one day. I don't think that the movie takes the fun out of the inpiration, what you call "leaving nothing to the imagination", but rather just one more motivating influence for building a MOC. I was expecting someone to say Lord of the Rings. I've seen a lot of MOCs from the movie (from the castle fans). I'm sure there's been many other movies as well as other inpirations. -
Historic MOCs/Themes Inspired by Movies

Any particular MOCs that you constructed after seeing a movie? -
BrickMiner and I were discussing some western/horror movies and I got to thinking, it would be interesting to share movies/films that have inspired your historic MOCs (or) to buy sets of a particular historic/adventure theme. One of many for me was the movie, The Mummy. I was fortunate that some of the Desert Adventurer sets were available when this movie was released. I purchased my first Desert Adventure set which was the Scorpion Tracker. An awesome little jeep and very unique to existing/past Lego themes. I loved the tan bricks and the treasure map. Share some of your inspirations.

Wild West: Ghost Town Images "leaked" (UPDATED #3)
WesternOutlaw replied to Brick Miner's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Very original idea BM- and a little playful. Neat. -
i haven't seen any horror/western movies. i do remember seeing this movie poster at the video rental store back when i was like 9 or 10 years old. and although my mom showed by Friday the 13th movies when i was that age (and other slasher films) *y* she never found this one interesting, i guess :-D could that be the one you saw ??? - BrickMiner No, I knew of this movie but had never seen it. It's no longer available but I did see it on Ebay a number of months ago. I remember this cover in video stores as well but know I never saw it after reading the plot. I did some searching today and the movie I saw just a few months ago was called, "Miner's Massacre". It was about the spirit of a dead miner who awakes after his gold is discovered in an old gold mine. Your Ghost Rider reminded me of this movie. Ironically enough, and most will probably not believe me; but the movie was on the Sci-Fi channel today. This is really wierd. And I didn't see previews or anything. I was just surfing and came across the movie... :'-(

Not exactly on the Adventurers inspiration. He's more of a Legend of Sleepy Hollow inspired character (like the Headless Horseman) and from Western horror flicks (not one inparticular). I called him the Phantom Rider. His story is mentioned here: TheBrickster's Ghost Town & Phantom Rider Over the summer, I was watching a cable movie about a Ghost Town and spirit of a dead miner. I never got the name of the movie. It was bad, but your Ghost Miner reminded me of the movie. Did you by chance see it? My avatar title was changed to Ghost Rider and that's how the name came about.

How about the Flying Ninja Fortress since most have voted for it as their favorite Ninja Fortress. I've already destroyed all my Ninja sets and wasn't planning on doing any image reviews (I'm kinda tired of building them). Oh, but in regard to Robber's Retreat. I couldn't wait to go out and buy this set. I liked it better than Fire Fortress and Stone Tower Bridge (which I kinda regret not buying). I like the colors and I may have said this before, but it reminds me of the Forestmen of the Ninja world. The only thing it was missing was Green Ninjas.

I'm with you Hobbes. I downloaded Lego Digital Designer twice on my computer (the last time with the new train elements). I hate it and think it takes the fun out of building. Maybe it's a "new generation thing". I'd much rather sit and build different versions of a MOC until I like it. But I am impressed with the finished product (like these). They look great!

I just came across some great train renderings at Brickshelf. Check this out: Train Renderings I'm not familiar with LDraw and other programs used to make such highly detailed images. Do any of you know how these are made? Here's just a few:

If I had the colors, that would be a neat MOC. I'd drive it in to Ghost Town :-D
-
No offense taken BM. You added a "smiley" somewhere which in forum language, translates to a sarcastic joke ;-) (just kidding). I must still be getting over you taking my Ghost Town idea ;-) .

One also has to consider that hands have to be able to get in to the set for play factor. The only other option is to put a removable roof on the set, and if there's more than 2 floors, each floor has to come off (like the Harry Potter bus). Aside from this method, the only other way (that I can think of) is using hinges to open the set. You end up with the same issue though, a back open set.

Orient Expedition (OE) Quiz
WesternOutlaw replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I'm fine with it, esp. if I'm the author of the thread. But sometimes new members will read a message thinking that the discussion just took place when in fact it's old information. That's why I mentioned, "unless you really like the subject".
