Barn House of Barnabas Higgens

I appreciate your review and your honesty. I would take your comments better if you provide some good points as well as the bad. I also think this is better than some of my other MOCs. I like the orange trim and the windows in the loft. I think they give the MOC an extra "spooky" feel. In fact, I think this is truly one of by better designed buildings. Perhaps... -

Yes, I tend to agree with you. I didn't have any grey so I used the black pieces. I'd prefer them all the same color. A few more slopes would have worked nicely as well. I didn't feel like breaking out my Lego boxes for a few gravestones. -

Awakening of the Phantom Rider
WesternOutlaw replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I enjoy reading all the feedback. Thanks. Here's a few more shots of the cemetery. Starting with the tomb of the Phantom Rider: The tomb closed: A few of the other graves: The spooky house of the Undertaker. Aside from a fireplace inside, I haven't added any details. A perspective of the whole cemetery: The Undertaker, Jake Farlow and his servant, Hank Austin: -
Question for those of you who own or have seen the Cafe Corner: Do you think the scale and the style of the Cafe Corner is a bit too large to look good with this new city set? Do you think the two sets, side-by-side, would look awkward?

Awakening of the Phantom Rider

:-D :-D :-D Thanks, appreciate that. I really would have liked to use a few pieces though (like the tomb stones and the burrial tiles). -
The Awakening Something's a'spook'n the critters in Grave Stone Cemetery. Jake Farlow, the Undertaker, and his loyal helper Hank Austin have been busy trying to keep up with the current demand. Jake is a greedy man; however, and has told Hank to just burry 'em quickly not to worry about digg'n 'em too deep. Perhaps it was the shallow grave, or even the Putrid Water, but someone or something is rising from the large grave in the center of the cemetery. Poor Hank sees the skeletal figure with its green glowing eyes climbing out of the tomb and can only stare at the horrifying apparition. It is he, the Phantom Rider who is awakening from his tomb! Halloween must be near... *skull* This cemetery is not exactly what I was trying to capture as I didn't use any of the pieces from the HP Graveyard Duel, which I would have liked to do. Overall though, I don't think the result is too bad. I may try rebuilding in the near future. I'll share a few more pictures soon.

I can't believe someone would steal another person's MOC images. What do they hope to gain? I say we hang 'em!

Very cryptic and mysterious... Colorful language -interesting.

Barn House of Barnabas Higgens
WesternOutlaw replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Your feedback comes off a bit harsh BM. I would agree that this barnhouse may be a little similar to the Sinister Stable and/or the Haunted Mill, but it is a completely new building. If you are comparing it to the Sinister Stable, that MOC was simply a change of color from an existing Lego set (not much creativity on my part). The Haunted Mill, much different as this MOC is a house in Grave Sone. In terms of "uniqueness", and sense of purpose, this MOC is intended to be a house that introduces another villain. I'm going to discount your opinion in regard to this MOC, because I disagree. I think it's one of my better building structures and I like the overall look and shape of its design. I don't always like the way some of my MOCs come out, but must say that I do like this (perhaps better than the Putrid Creek Mill that you seem to be fond of). Perhaps I've spoiled you with a lot of different buildings and designs (not typically found in the WW theme). Maybe another brown building with a black roof is not different enough for your liking. In comparison to your Shiversdale MOCs; I can only picture one-two MOCs from you, so perhaps you have many more opportunities/designs to explore. My next GS MOC will be something completely different, not along a building-line; but I did want a spooky old house on a hill- a place the kids in Grave Stone could go "trick-or-treating" (so to speak). Let's see what a few other reviewers think of the barnhouse. I'm looking forward to reading the reviews. -
And you've got to love the movie that the Legoville movie-goers are watching! It doesn't get any better than this. *y*

I'm already dressed for the occasion *y* .

Thank you ZBD. I'm really glad you enjoyed it, esp. considering you did not participate. I was hoping that a few of the EB members who weren't part of the story would be following along.

Outstanding 007! I love the Old Mexico theme. You've really captured a great scene here. I esp. like the way you did the Spanish roof and the detailing. It gives me a lot of great ideas. Excellent job!

This is better than Cafe Corner. I love it! I would rate this set as is, the best set for the past 10 years if produced like the image(s). Outstanding!

Barn House of Barnabas Higgens
WesternOutlaw replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
More pictures: Starting with the exterior, the Scarecrow: Loft window: The roof: On the left side is a door: Left side, larger: The right side: Interior left, a table with two chairs: Right side (middle), a fireplace and chest: Both floors: A trap door does open: And the small, simple loft with bedroom: That's about it. I haven't added much detail. -
The Barn House of Barnabas Higgens Creak... Scrape... A rusting windmill can be heard in the distance. It turns outside the spooky Barn House of Barnabas Higgens, an old foreboding house the stands alone in Shadow Valley, not far from the trail to Hang Man's Hill. A small stream use to flow outside the house, but dried up years ago when Morty Perkins won the water rights to the nearby creek in a high-stake game of cards. But who is Barnabas Higgens, and where has he gone? No one left in Grave Stone seems to know. Rumor has it that his mysterious disappearance has something to do with the old scarecrow that stands outside the barn house. Every October as Halloween approaches, the eyes of the tattered scarecrow seem to glow an eerie red color. Some say that the scarecrow comes to life once a year to feed off the living. Green lights appear inside the spooky barn house, but Barnabas Higgens is never seen... *skull* --- My latest Grave Stone MOC, the Barn House does have an interior and I will post more pictures soon. Comments welcome.

I love it! Great backdrop for your troops - except for the two dogs. The thought of them gnawing on your figs would scare me. :'-(

Maybe. I love the dark green mining cars, good supply of track, and the orc faces. These are some great elements for a spooky mine. Honestly, I've tried building a few haunted mines over the past few years, but have been very unsuccessful. That's another topic though.

I picked up one of these sets today at Target. I must say that it is a neat set. I was surprised to see that the dwarves do not have new faces. It doesn't matter though, because the faces are hidden behind their beards. I love the workings of the mine, esp. the large stone/iron wheel with the hoist. I also like the mine cars. Overall, I enjoyed the build and can't wait to get some more dwarves and orcs. Great set!

Good question AS. I think the official answer is provided in the following article re. the Castle 2007 theme (Castle 2007 Designer Feedback) posted on Classic Castle. The article states: 2008 is going to see the battle grow much bigger, as both sides are being joined by new allies. These reinforcements will bring with them new vehicles, machines and settings to make the theme much more epic. . So I believe the official answer is that both of the new races are allied with the existing factions.

:-D :-D Like Wierd Al's song. Too funny.

Yes, it would be on-line. Almost similar to one of my mysteries. Dice are used as well as tables with various stats. Some would include: Tables for character abilities, hit points (life points), damage from various weapons, spells, armor class (what it takes to hit someone), saving throws (protection against poison, and various spells). These are just to name a few. If we did this in Lego, just the minimal tables would be used for simplicity. Boards/Dungeon Tiles are used with minature figures (metal in my day), to give players an idea of what a dungeon looks like (they can move forward, right, left, back, etc - this for melee combat). Over the web, the Dungeon Master would provide the choices for moving.

I started a thread a year or two ago about playing Dungeons & Dragons with Lego miniatures, and as I recall, not many people responded. Since then, we now have some great figs including Vikings, Royal Knights (Crowns), Legions of the Undead, and now Dwarves, plus a number of new monsters. I'd like to start this discussion again to see if you would be interested in participating in a game of Lego D&D on EB. About D&D For those of you who don't remember D&D, it was the first popular role-playing game created in the late 70s/early 80s with knights, magic, dungeons, and monsters. Different participants portraited characters (like fighters, magic-users, clerics, thieves, etc). of different races (human, elf, dwarf, etc.). Dice were used as a Dungeon Master provided scenerios as part of an adventure/module. Years ago, I played a game of D&D over what was pre-WWW called a Bulletin Board System (BBS). It was slow, did not have any pictures, but a lot of fun. Would you be interested in seeing a game like this played on EB and if so/not, what is your experience/knowledge with D&D?
