  1. Hi train fans! I notice from any given time, we have anywhere between 10 - 100 members browsing Train Tech. Your opinions and comments are important to us. As you view various Train Tech subjects, take a minute to share your thoughts. Your feedback is appreciated.
  2. EB train fan Pe668 of Bodville has created the first non-staff entry for the Build a Ghost Train Building Challenge. This creative and unique entry isn't the traditional steam engine Ghost Train variety, but rather a haunting carnival ride with even an enjoyable video. Make sure you hop aboard Train Tech and check out Pe668's most spooky Ghost Train.
  3. Fantastic PE! I loved the video. Great sounds/special effects (like the lightning). This is very enjoyable to watch. This reminds me of another Ghost Train carnival ride I saw last year. Great design and interesting to have the structure itself turn. Is this an entry for the Ghost Train Building Challenge? Not quite a traditional train, but since there's no rules to get in the way of creativity, I think it will work just fine. This deserves a little "front-page" acknowledgment.
  4. In the streets of Eurobricks' Trains & Town, we like to keep the roads neat and clean. There's no better EB member than Macoco that exemplifies this phylosophy with his recent review of LEGO set 7242 Street Sweeper. Make sure you take a moment to visit our town; and if you see a little dirt, just let Macoco know. Thanks for visiting!
  5. Good suggestion Otters, and thank you. You always seem to bring a smile to my face. Better watch out for those Johnson Rods. You never know where they may end up.
  6. Gather around all you ghosts and goblins... As the wind begins to howl, and the air begins to chill, the haunting season fast approaches. There's something strange going on inside the dark sheds of Train Tech as our finest train builders have been keeping quiet about their latest building endeavors. Through the darkness of a half open door, a shimmer of something black, shining and haunting emerges. What is it, you ask? It may be a Ghost Train, as part of the Spook'n Up Train Tech Building Challenge. Not quite a contest, no rules to get in the way, just a collective celebration of frightful delight. Do you have what it takes to Build a Ghost Train? Why don't you try and share it within Train Tech, or are you too scared to enter? Staff are welcome as well. We're dying to see your Ghost Train! Bahaaa haaa haaa haaa... :skull: Build a Ghost Train Building Challenge
  7. Thanks WF. Believe it or not, all the purple is from Harry Potter's Knight Bus (with some left over for one or two more cars (including windows). I would never have thought that this little bus would make such a great purple parts pack (esp. w/ its train windows). I realize most of my "spooky creations" are part of the Grave Stone genre, but as I mentioned to Klaus-Dieter, this is outside the realm of Grave Stone and Wild West. It is intended to be more of a Studio Movie Monster train, and my next train car might show off the theme a little better, if I ever get around to attempting to build it. In any case, thanks for your feedback. I sort of like the thought of a Tran-sylvania Express.
  8. For those of you who took the time to complete this survey and provide your feedback, thank you. I'd like to see some improvements to the site in hope of generating more comments and discussion, as few blogs ever receive feedback. I've been contemplating if I want to continue blogging after the end of October, but still unsure. If you should see a decrease in blogging, please know that the other Classic-Town bloggers, like WhiteFang, Dave, and Shadows will still be around. I won't be going very far as I'm still here within our Trains & Town forum, as well as other places on EB. Thanks for your support of Classic-Town.
  9. Great thoughts! I think much of it will depend on continued sales of these sets, especially the Fire Brigade. If LEGO sees the financial reward, they are certainly more likely to continue the line. It was great to hear Jamie say that LEGO is listening like never before. I'm very much looking forward to the next few adult exclusives. I'd love to see a modular Train Station.
  10. Very nice Carb! I love the front end detailing. You're becoming real master at these 30s cars. Great job!
  11. Well said Otters - thank you. I picked up the Fire Brigade over the weekend and had a chance to contribute to an interview with Jamie Berard, designer of the "Big 3". I was really feeling great having just lined up the three sets side-by-side. It got me thinking, I'd love to have a poll to see what everyones' favorite of the "Big 3" is. Having seen Legoliner Pilot's previous thread that included Market Street and what I though was Town Plan, I thought, "oh, I'll just create a new poll" and got busy. The last thing that I intended to do was cause an argument or animosity in regard to these superb sets. That's not at all what happened with Modular Madness, rather creating exactly what the topic name implied. So, what I've done is merge my "Modular Madness" post with the topic started by Legoliner Pilot and have added Market Street to the poll. The down-side, the poll has been reset. The plus, for those of you wanting to vote for Market Street, you can now do so. Now we can continue our discussion of these 3 4 great LEGO modular sets.
  12. Tedbeard: you are out of line, and as the board moderator, let me make myself real clear when it comes to this and/or any other topic that you feel that you want to challenge and play moderator. Myself and/or the other moderators will decide what is appropriate and what is not. Obviously, this topic will remain open under its existing title and information provided. If you don't like a topic or disagree with the content, I invite you to simply ignore it, but to challenge and/or insult me or any of the others by your tone will quickly result in you being invited to participate in another forum that better meets your expectations. Have I made myself perfectly clear? Now this topic may resume where we left off before the interruption. For those of you who have commented in a constructive manner, thank you for understanding the intent of my poll and I invite further discussion.
  13. I don't think he's saying that at all. With no discredit to Market Street, this poll is intended to showcase and allow voting for three modular sets designed by Jamie Berard. Each of these sets are very comparabe as all are over 2,000 pieces, intended for builders 16 and over, and have similar price points. Market Street, although a modular set, just doesn't compare as well with these three other sets, and that's why I did not include it in this trio. If you have the same thoughts or feel that this is the same topic, why would you even bother responding. Folks: this is a fun poll intended to promote friendly discussion and opinions from Town & City fans. Some of you just suck the fun right out of it. Why don't we focus on these three sets that have been included within this topic. Market Street is not, and is a different discussion.
  14. One gets a whole different perspective after building and displaying these in your own city. The pictures are very deceiving. Up close, they really look different (and larger - at least I think).
  15. Thanks for locating Fyparr. I knew I had done a Triple Face-Off with these and the Swiss Crocodile from Hobby Train, but I could not seem to locate this one. It is an old topic but had some responses just a few months ago. Topic merged. Good discussion though.
  16. Jipay: it's always great to read your input on threads like this! Even after buying the Green Grocer, I still liked the look of Cafe Corner. There's something very special about the exterior design that I appreciate. When first building and adding to my town; I kept thinking, what a great set! It gave me that "warm fuzzy". But now that I have Fire Brigade, I love the exterior design, esp. the brick work; and the bell tower is great with the white arch pieces. I can certainly understand that. They are expensive sets. In the past, I usually kept my budget to $100 (USD) for most sets (unless very special). But considering, your MOCs certainly make a nice collection of modulars.
  17. It is definately a modular, but I really wanted this poll to be about the "big three", as I don't think many would vote for Market Street over any of the others.
  18. This is good info to know, esp. for those interested in still obtaining the set. I did not plan to buy this station, but wanted something a little more classic to go with my Train Town. I picked up the set just a few months ago, and must say that I really like it. It has the look and feel of a much older Classic Town set, and makes a great station. Now I'm thinking... what might be next as Duq mentions. Could you imagine a large modular style station with removable floors? EDIT: just a bit of forum moderation. While this is good information for those fans who are thinking about still purchasing this set, maybe it's best that we don't post a new thread every time a set gets discontinued. Otherwise, our forum will become saturated with "x set is no longer available in x country".
  19. Because it's a LEGO factory set that's not part of this trio of LEGO designed sets. Would you vote for it if it were part of the poll? Wow BB! I would of thought with your fantastic modular MOCs, you owned a few of these. I must admit that I had never planned to buy any of these sets, but after picking up Cafe Corner, I was hooked. Each set seemed to get better. Now I love the Fire Brigade. I just think it's missing a ladder.
  20. This topic does not include Town Plan and is a poll. Sure, we've had other discussions regarding these sets (some started by me as well), but each have been different in some way. Now that more people own the Fire Brigade, we can compare votes for each of the three sets.
  21. I still like the Cafe Corner exterior very much, even after building the Green Grocer. The furniture and the fire escape is pretty slick on the Green Grocer. My only complaint is that the furniture doesn't come out easy, esp. the refrigerator. I built the Fire Brigade over the weekend and must say I love it. I really like the brick facade and the garage door with fire truck. The kitchen is just awesome, and the furniture isn't attached to the walls, which I really like. Oh, and the bell tower with moving bell is too nice. I'll probably be one of the few that vote for the Fire Brigade.
  22. Oh, you do though, and they always look so great! Your Train Tech staff entry was equally impressive. Make sure you check out Classic Town in the morning.
  23. From the white and yellow awning of the Cafe Corner, the produce stands of the Green Grocer, to the roll-down garage of the Fire Brigade, LEGO Modular sets truly are fantastic. The highly detailed sets have touched many AFOL in a most profound manner, attracting new fans to the slick City collection. As I look upon my collection with enjoyment, I ponder... Which set among them is my favorite? First it was the Cafe Corner for its street corner charm, then when it could get no better, the Green Grocer would include furniture and a fire escape. But now, the Fire Brigade with its roll-down garage door and fire truck inside, not to mention a fully stocked kitchen with the most modern of LEGO appliances (for the 1930s that is), hmmmm... Which is my favorite??? How about you -Do you have a favorite of this fine modular trio? (note: Market Street has not been included within this poll)
  24. You bet! I really like this set and I think it looks pretty nice as you've modified it. I encouage aspiring train builders to take older sets and try doing the same in different colors. Not only does it improve building skills, but the final outcome sometimes looks really good (as does this camper). You can do the same with lots of different sets, regardless of theme.
