Great build; the landscaping is on point. I especially like those boulders: simple, but looks amazing!
-
That is very accurate to the original! I especially like the stonework on the base of the tower.

Book II - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
KevinyWu replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
Most of you have probably already seen these, but Henjin_Quilones informed me that it would be a good idea to post my Avalonia builds on the guild topic, as well as my sigfig introduction, so here they are: Sigfig introduction: Eryos Castle, the residency of my sigfig: Eryosmith Band: Journey to Eryos, intro to my second character: -
This scene is very unique, with the raised buildings that fit in nicely with the swamp setting!
-
I liked the idea of the band, although maybe it is not that well executed . My techniques here were pretty simplistic, so I wanted to at least make it look busy with the figures.
-
Thanks, I will take note of that! For the base, I agree that it does look sort of strange, but I have used he same style on all my other builds, and wanted to keep it consistent. The "yellow" in the bamboo is actually lime green, but my photography skills are lacking and so it looks kinda bad . When building, I was debating whether to put the snake in or not, and finally decided "why not?" Looking back on it, it is out of place. A black snake would probably be better.
-
Okay, I will do that! I don't know if this is a good place to ask, but how do you attach your own topics when replying in the guild topic? Thank you! Do you mean the &Quot;" thing? I will try to get rid of that next time. Glad that it tuned out that way, I based it roughly on a medieval cog ship, especially with the stern.
-
Thank you, that was what I was going for! I wanted the masonry and wall/building design to be more realistic, but the overall layout with the bridges to be more fantastical. Haha, thanks, this build is far from perfect, and I will definitely try to improve! For the pine tree, I personally saw the design on Ben Pitchford's massive Robin Hood layout, but I believe it has been around for much longer! I suppose it can be found with a quick google search, but the design is just a stack of Travis bricks with stacks of grass pieces attached on all four sides. Great point about the lighthouse that I probably should've considered while building! Hopefully the roof won't burn down, and I guess the person who adds wood just has to throw it in there .
-
Thanks for the criticism! I completely agree with you, and originally wanted to extend the walls to the edge of the baseplates, but ran out of bricks! So I modified the landscape a bit to make the walls sorta end at the sea. Thanks! Thank you!

Yep, dark brown is probably my favorite color in LEGO! Sure, Avonhem Manor would be a really nice venue! It is actually supposed to be a bass, which I believe is about 6 feet tall without the end-pin. I also really wanted to use that harpoon piece, which made it even taller, but I decided to sacrifice some accuracy. So yeah, even as a bass it is a couple of studs too tall, but better than if it were meant to be a cello, I guess.

Thanks! Thanks, and I will take note on what types of trees live where in future builds.

The son of a Mitgardian shepard, Bartholomeus and his sheepdog were sent by his father in search of a better life. He is headed for Eryos Castle to learn from Prince Kevin the Navigator, who was a former chicken farmer. But first, he must travel through the dense forests of Avalonia. I really wanted to use the bamboo pieces that were on the pick a brick wall a while ago. I planned to use them on Eryos Castle, which I did on the rocks, but I had a ton left over! In fact, I still have a ton left over, but I was limited by the amount of lime green studs I had.
-
When not on duty, four soldiers from Eryos Castle come together to become Eryosmith! They perform in taverns and inns around Avalonia. (sorry for the white space in this photo) This was a fun small build, and coming up with the designs for the cello and organ was especially enjoyable. Two more creations and I can enter the 5th anniversary challenge!

Challenge: "A safe haven"- Celebrating five years of GoH!
KevinyWu replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Guilds of Historica
I'm quite new to GoH (joined Avalonia 6 days ago, although I've been lurking for a while), so I just found out exactly what this challenge is. I have a couple questions: 1. This might have already been answered, but I wasn't able to find the answer anywhere. Can you only submit one entry per category? 2. I am working on a ship right now, but I already made a ship in the post where I introduced my sigfig. If the answer to the previous question is no, can I submit that as an entry as well? 3. If I enter that ship in the contest, I guess it won't count as a freebuild anymore? I have only two free builds so far including that one. If the answer to the first question is yes, the next two questions are automatically answered 4. If my 10 year old brother builds something and I post it (credit to him of course) will it count as a freebuild? No, I'm not going to force him to pump out 3 more builds for me , but he just finished a MOC that is quite good, and I was going to share it anyways, since I don't think he is old enough to be an Avalonian yet. Thanks! -
Book II - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
KevinyWu replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
I just read more about the safe haven challenge. I had no idea a ship was a category, but it is! Hopefully I will finish in time for the deadline (I won't have much build time after school starts January 4). But first I need to get 3 more free builds in! By the way, your "Midnight Mist" ship I recently saw on Flickr is great! I like the sails especially. -
Book II - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
KevinyWu replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
Wow, can't wait to see it! Meanwhile, here is a WIP: WIP by KevinyWu, on Flickr The red and white on the front of the ship is just there as a filler, I will need to order those pieces in reddish brown/dark brown. -
Thanks! I have another freebuild coming hopefully soon. Thank you, I never realized how hard angles were to do before I made this. The outer wall is only attached to the ground by 2 studs! Thanks, Gideon! I wanted to do the traditional Tudor style with the planks on the outside, but I didn't have enough white bricks! the corners are actually using stacks of Travis bricks with white tiles, but I'm glad it worked out OK.

Book II - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
KevinyWu replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
Sooo... Anyone working on anything right now? I just joined GoH, so I'm sorta excited to get more involved, but it seems pretty slow currently. Also, is this the best place to put WIPs? I noticed BoBS has a ship builders guild for WIPs, so I'm just wondering. -
Thanks, Littleworlds! I actually didn't plan much at all, I just went straight in and hoped for the best. Thank you, the angle on the main bridge took forever to get right, since I had already built the height of the island and mainland first. Thanks Garmadon! I tried to squeeze in as much as I could in the interiors, and a cave for storage seemed like a good fit for my Sigfig's role as a merchant. This means a lot, coming from you! As you might be able to tell, I was inspired by your MOC "Quest to Eolas" for the outer wall, with the two towers and the design using the dark bluish gray 1x1 tiles beside the gate. Love your MOCs! Thanks you! I wanted to have lush vegetation and water around the castle to make the colors stand out more.
-
Thanks, I look forward to doing more Avalonia MOCs! I did want to do something naval-related, since the only ship for the Guilds I've seen in the past couple of months was your L.M Diaz (Which was great!) My next MOC will probably be a larger ship, so hopefully that helps. By the way, "y" is my middle initial

After years of trading, Prince Kevin the Navigator earned enough to buy a small island on the coast of Avalonia. Eryos Castle is his residence as well as his trading post, constructed on the island and surrounding land. The castle includes a lighthouse and a dock for his ship, the "Compass." This is my first ever large MOC, after making my first orders on Bricklink! It is built on four 48x48 baseplates which can be easily separated into many sections. I built this mostly over the summer and Thanksgiving break, but didn't have time to post it due to high school. Huge thanks to all the castle builders on Eurobricks for making great MOCs that inspired me. There are many things I would change if I were to do this again, so criticism is welcomed!
-
Though not actually a prince nor navigator (yet), Kevin has amassed a decent fortune as a merchant. He is ready to serve Avalonia! After lurking on Eurobricks for a year, I'm finally posting something! Prince Kevin the Navigator is my Sigfig.
