Wizarding World 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
BacktoBricks replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
This list is getting harder each year and there are definitely some not on my list which have fantastic figures (Umbridge Encounter, Hospital Wing etc), but this is my top 15 of sets that I like for their overall contribution to the theme i.e. Builds and minifigures. 1) Diagon Alley 2) Attack on The Burrow 3) 12 Grimmauld Place 4) Hogwarts Express - Collectors' Edition 5) Beauxbatons' Carriage 6) The Ministry of Magic 7) Knight Bus 8) Hagrid's Hut: Buckbeak's Rescue 9) Shrieking Shack and Whomping Willow 10) Hogsmeade Village Visit 11) 4 Privet Drive 12) Clock Tower 13) The Rise of Voldemort 14) 75981 Advent Calendar (2020) 15) Polyjuice Potion Excited? No. But intrigued? Definitely. They might make for some useful or interesting printed tiles. And if there are going to be Dots sets, then it can't harm to have a Harry Potter one. -

I can't help but think that those Quidditch jumpers in the banner sets are going to get reused later in the year. The first Quidditch set has been retired a while now and it's an easy go to for a 'playable' set. I also think a Hagrid's Hut might be on the cards for this year, but perhaps a PS one this time. I'm so excited to see what we get. Personally hoping for Gringotts, which I think has to come this year or DA will have retired before too long and it makes no sense not to have them on shelves at the same time, and a Durmstrang Ship. And yes, over half a decade! It's insane, but I love it. -

I hope we don't get a new system just yet; it would make investing in this system seem rather fruitless and it would also feel pretty pointless to me considering there are so many more sets they could so with this system. It may not be the prettiest, but it certainly works for expandability. Clearly they have decided to go for the common rooms in the banners this year, but even that doesn't preclude them being made in this system style a year or two down the line. In this system we could still get: Winged Keys Quirrell/Voldemort showdown with the Mirror of Erised Snape's potion class, McGonagall's Transfiguration class, Flitwick's Charm's class like in the Moments books but as modules. Troll in the bathroom Greenhouse Lupin's DA classroom One-Eyed witch passage Owlery Divination Classroom Umbridge's Office Slughorn's office / Christmas party Viaduct As for a third CMF I would totally take one, but I agree Lego doesn't need to do one and limit their options for sets so I'm doubtful it will happen. As rich as the HP material is, there is a lot less of it than the Star Wars universe and I feel like we are getting pretty close to competition now. Although @BrickBob Studpants you forgot poor Fang! -

No last year Lego revealed the Magical Trunk on 1st December and that was for a March release. :) The other March sets were then revealed at the beginning of January although we had already seen images from the leaked catalogue. -

Principally, I'm really interested in seeing The Second Task set, especially the minifigures. I've wanted this remake for a long time, having never got the original. I'm not interested in buying the banners unless the really surprise me, but I am interested in seeing the format they will take and what figures they will include i.e. Have they gone for heads of houses and students, or is it house ghosts and students, or just students? What uniforms will the students have? Will we be seeing the (inaccurate) house crest sweaters return or get the more movie faithful plain house striped jumpers? Or will we get house robes instead? And then I'm interested in seeing the format we will get for the ROR. Ideally I'd like a castle section that doesn't include roof sections so that we can start to add vertically to the castle without having roof sections left over. However, I'm guessing they won't cut out a roof, although I don't think a set would have any less individual appeal or play value for someone, child or collector, who doesn't own the other sections just because it has no roof. They are not meant to be accurate display models after all just vignettes of scenes. The potential minifigure line up is also exciting to see. So as it's just a small wave I'm pretty much looking forward to seeing everything, but if one photo was to get leaked today I would want it to be The Second Task. So that's what I'm most looking forward to overall. -

That microfighter is actually really cute. They're not my thing and I won't be getting it, but I appreciate how they managed to fit Boba in the cockpit and still make a micro version that retains the basic shaping of the source material. As a set that is clearly intended for play I think they've got it spot on with this one. As for the 501st, are they using the same blue as for the current 501st troopers? -

I think it was that thinking that killed the movies. There were beasts, but it focused on the Grindelwald story which as a HP fan I loved, but for the general movie goer films 2 and 3 would have been less grand in the beasts/fun department. I also just did not get threatening vibes from Grindelwald in 3. Unfortunately the actor switch just didn't work for me in the end. Grindelwald sounded so menacing in the books and yet in movie 3 came across pretty weak to me. I do wonder if we would have had a thestral by now if not for it being an easy movie set for Lego. And then by extension a baby thestral. So FB may have given us those too. -

Ah dear. End of an era. I wasn't expecting more sets so nothing changed there. Sad to see it has ended, but can't lie it went downhill after movie 1. Glad we at least got a Niffler out of it. 🤣 -

What I would like to know is, a couple of weeks ago or so Lego updated their website in the UK and attached the 'Retiring Soon' label to Fluffy Encounter, Divination Class, Defence Class, Brick Built Harry and Hermione and the Crests. But according to leakers, all the Moments books will be going at the end of the year, as will First Flying, Attack On The Burrow, Clock Tower etc, but the don't say retiring soon. Now of course they may not retiring, but the leaked lists are usually pretty accurate. If they do end up retiring is there any reason why Lego basically tells people some will be gone, but others they just let switch to Sold Out with no warning to customers who just look at their official website and don't follow third party retiring news etc. Is it a stock level thing that triggers the retiring label being attached. It seems misleading to me to label some and not others. -

I loved the first two advent calendars, especially the Yule Ball one. They felt so Christmassy and yet completely relevant to the theme. Last year's was still good and I really like pyjama Dudley and the birthday cake, although I didn't love it as much overall though. But this year's just feels so depressing to me. If you actually look at the characters included you get: an orphan, a grumpy teacher, the ghost of a girl who was murdered, the murderer, a guy in his battle outfit, a prisoner and what essentially amounts to a head. And then none of the builds are Christmassy. It feels very depressing to me and whilst I appreciate getting certain variants that have no place elsewhere it just doesn't excite me at all. But surprisingly I've not heard many people agree so it's interesting to hear the viewpoint of someone else who isn't so keen on it and who also has no desire to get Christmas variants of characters that don't come from the canon. They kind of work for Star Wars as you would never get Christmas versions of those from the in universe material, but I would prefer to get Harry Potter Christmas variants from the source material as Christmas is a feature in every year of the books/films. -

I can't help but think that the updated prints they have used on Wicket and the AT-ST Driver in the new 4+ set were unnecessary unless: A) You are trying to get adult collectors to buy the set purely for completionism, or B) a MBS Endor is on the way and they used this set to make newer prints for those figs that can go in the MBS without taking from it's budget and then that could hopefully be put to the rarer characters. Now it's probably just a case of A, but one can dream. -

I'm hoping for a remake of Hagrid's Hut this year. A Philosopher's Stone one preferably with baby Norbert(a) and a new mould for Fang. Would be especially poignant now if we do get such a set this year. -

@BrickBob Studpants Thank you! Definitely a better scale than the other Hogwarts Express. You tempted to display the car flying over? 😉 @Murdoch17 I think you are far more knowledgeable than me about car scales so I'll let you do the math, but I'd say we have a better set up than we did for recreating the battle between the Hogwarts Express and the Ford Anglia. 😃 -

Question for anybody who now owns the new Hogwarts Express: How well does it scale with the latest Ford Anglia?. I'm guessing just from images it might scale pretty well, but hard to judge without owning the set myself. -

I think he probably did. However, if he doesn't know by now how his IG comments will be analysed for proof of Gringotts then more fool him.
