  4. You may now vote. With 23 players, 12 votes are required to lynch. 48 hours remain in the day. I have updated the rules to disallow the quoting of PMs from other players. Since this wasn't explicitly stated in the rules, and since no timestamps were used, no one who has quoted PMs prior to this will be penalised.
  5. Day One: Breaking the Ice It was night, and all of the warriors of the Last Meadhall gathered to celebrate the return of the Kára the Valkyrie. Many were in high spirits in light of the promising news Kára brought with her. "Is it true you have seen Valhalla in your wanderings?!" asked Herburt Marred-Eye, the long-time lord of the hall "I have!" replied Kára, "the dragon burned it to ash, but the foundation remains! I have seen a vision from Odin! It was his intention to reclaim his seat of power! With Valhalla restored, the Nine Worlds shall be reborn anew, and mankind shall survive!" "I couldn't hear any of that!" said Herburt Marred-Eye amidst the drunken revelry of his guests. Springing to his feet and raising his arms above his head, he bellowed, "GET OUT! ALL OF YOU!" The warriors skulked off, leaving Herburt and Kára to discuss matters in peace. "I hate these people," Herburt sighed, "they eat my food, they drink my mead, they disturb my home. I want them to leave as soon as they are able." "We will leave," Kára assured him, "to survive, we have to keep moving. Sooner or later, our supplies here will run dry. But it is impossible to last long out there. I already lost my last expedition to the winter." "The ice is beginning to melt," Herburt replied, "the rivers are thawing. And then..." "... And then," Ranka the Unplayable continued, "we will provide them with a ship. A mighty longboat." "Aye," agreed Lifthrasir Exposition-Spouter, "With any luck, once the ice breaks the boat will be able to sail straight to Valhalla. But these days any voyage is treacherous. We would need a skilled captain to man her..." Kára stood up. "I shall carry out this task," she said, "I will lead us all into a new world. Odin has chosen me!" "Very well. My people shall stay here however. This was my father's home, and his father's before him. Outside, chaos reigns. But this piece of earth, we keep. Forever." "Fine," said Kára. She had heard the impassioned ramblings of Herburt enough times to bother arguing. "We have only one problem," Herburt noted, "the boat you will sail on was built for twenty-two men. We have twenty-three. Before you set sail, you will need to vote off one crewman." "Vote them off... with extreme prejudice..." said Mederic One-Day-Away-From-Retirement. "Really? The boat's too full? That's the excuse we're going with to start playing mafia?" said Kára. "What's a mafia?" asked Herburt. 6. Looks like everyone's accounted for. Expect Day One to start within the next 24 hours.
  7. This is the end, beautiful friend. This is the end, my only friend. The end of our elaborate plans. The end of all that stands. No safety or surprise, the end. I'll never look into your eyes, the end. A solitary figure rode through the desolate forests of Asgard. She rode through battlefields, where thousands fought. She no longer had the powers to save them. She traveled day and night, through wind and snow... ... Until she finally reached her destination... She prayed that there were survivors still left at this hall, once the home of a reclusive group of Norman warriors. As night drew near, she cautiously approached what appeared to be a gateway and knocked twice. "Who goes there?" a voice asked. "I am Kára, the last of the Valkyries. I come from Valhalla with news." "Enter," the man said. The door creaked open. "Welcome to the Last Meadhall." Characters (23) Canute Grey-Bush (CallMePie) Canute is a simpleton. The only thing he knew in life was how to fight. To his credit, he did this very well. So well, in fact, that he quickly became the most feared Viking in Scandinavia. Tales of his brave deeds spread throughout Europe, and even beyond. His reputation as unkillable led many to believe he was not a mortal man at all. He lived to be an old man, but as much as he seemed to love playing the part of the wise old sage, he was still as ignorant as he had been in his youth. He enjoyed telling stories about his youth to those who sought his advice, but his anecdotes often had no relevance whatsoever. Canute became senile in his old age, possibly a result of one too many blows to the head. Despite his age, Canute never retired from fighting and continued to inspire dread in all those who stood against him. Pudding-Head (Hinckley) The Pudding-Heads were a proud family of lowly swineherds. They became famed for their unexpected skill in battle and their strong connections with their pigs. Unfortunately, their simple minds made them vulnerable to the trickery of Loki. After two seperate betrayals, the Pudding-Head name has lost all it's prestige. No one willingly resurrected Pudding-Head. With its final breath, the great boar Sæhrímnir targeted its healing powers at one more powerful einherjar. This magic missed however, and hit the Pudding-Head's ugly family plot. From this grave came a single entity, known only as "Pudding-Head". This being is determined to right the wrongs of the Pudding-Head family. Though Pudding-Head appears to be repentant, no one can be entirely sure what's going on behind those dead, dumb eyes. Patrekr the Red (Palathadric) Patrekr the Red was a wise and just king who ruled in Norway. Patrekr placed great importance on legacy and worked hard to ensure that his son and heir Cranebreinn would continue to bring prestige to his family. Patrekr's one vice was his pride. He could never bear to have someone as his equal in power. For this reason, he devoted his life to waging war against his rival Wary the Black. He even continued to squabble with him in the afterlife. Constantly vigilant, Patrekr slept with one eye open and a big axe. Unfortunately, Patrekr's paranoia resulted in an awkward situation where he killed his comrade Canute and his own son Cranebeinn. Wracked with guilt, Patrekr now suffers from night terrors. Cranebeinn the Redder (Chromeknight) Cranebeinn was the son of Patrekr the Red and heir to his kingdom. Though he was groomed for kingship from an early age, Cranebeinn was never particularly interested in the job. Young and immature, he never took his royal responsibilities seriously. All he was truly interested in was battling. Acknowleging this as a worthy pursuit, Cranebreinn's father equipped him with the finest armour money could buy, and even took him to the battlefield. Cranebeinn always admired his father - up until the night he paid Patrekr a late-night visit and was subsequently beheaded. Over the course of Ragnarok, Cranebeinn has grown up, disillusioned with his family and rarely seeing them. Hot-headed and fiery, he strives to be a greater warrior than his father. Petrus Fire-Starter (Pandora) Petrus was once a mercenary who sought wealth and excitement in the Varangian Guard. Though he was richly rewarded for his services, Petrus was disappointed at the lack of battling. Eventually, the mundanity of life wore him down, and he began to dabble in Byzantine alchemy to pass the time. He developed an obsession with fire, which helped to relieve him of some of his pent up tension. It wasn't long before he developed his own hand-held fire siphon, which was used to devastating effect against a Persian assault. However, with no enemies left in the area Petrus began to burn down city buildings. Petrus was subsequently jailed in a poorly lit dungeon, where he died. At Ragnarok, Petrus stands, flame-thrower in hand, as a beacon of light in a world of darkness. Petrus' deeds in battle were enough to inspire any man - provided they didn't get too close. Danr the Dragon-Slayer (Dannylonglegs) Danr was a vain and boastful viking, which didn't win him any friends. Though he originally captained a fleet that operated in the Baltic, his crew tired of his grating personality and marooned him. He came to prominence in the kingdoms of Scandinavia ten years later after he claimed to have slain a great dragon during his hiatus. He traveled from hall to hall recounting his great deeds, and was greeted with great feasts and treasures by his hosts. Danr's stories were dismissed as lies by more skeptical audiences, but they enjoyed the entertainment nonetheless. Now as dragons circle the skies at Ragnarok, Danr is determined to prove his worth to any doubters. Dagstyrr the Fool (Darkdragon) Dagstyrr was a young member of the powerful Danish House of Trausti. He showed great promise as a fighter, though he was known to have an explosive temper. Under the close guidance of his father however, he learned to overcome his rage and remain composed in battle. As a teenager, his family was laid low by the up-and-coming House of Bjalabolt, who usurped their titles. Most members of the House of Trausti were executed by the new order, but Dagstyrr managed to repress his emotions, convincing his captors that he was no threat. His act worked too well however, leading the Bjalabolts to appoint him as the new court jester. Dagstyrr was a lousy entertainer and for many years he was mocked and jeered at by the court. One drunken night, after one too many jokes about his hat, Dagstyrr finally snapped. Grabbing the nearest axe he could find, he jumped at the audience, slaying every Bjalabolt usurper he could find. He proceeded to take his act on a kingdom-wide tour. It was generally well-received, though some critics found the performance to be too macabre. They were subsequently killed, however. As a warrior of Ragnarok, Dagstyrr longs to be taken seriously by his peers. He has never considered wearing different clothes though. Petr Half-Troll (Piratedave) Petr Half-Troll always aspired to be a poet, but his fellow townsfolk were put off by his growling and dark subject matter. Petr came to resent the people and started living under a bridge outside of town, where no one could criticise his work. As payback, he would harass anyone who attempted to cross and force them to pay a toll. One day, Petr halted an entire army who intended to cross the river and conquer the region. As they were unwilling to pay, Petr fought them off one by one on the narrow bridge, eventually routing them. As a result, Petr became the toast of the town, and feasts were held in his honour for days on end. Ever the party animal, Petr accepted the invitations - but only on the condition that he could sing his godawful poems. Mist (Mencot) Mist was once a Valkyrie who served the einherjar at Valhalla. Each day, she would watch the einherjar eat, drink and fight, gradually becoming more and more envious of their lives. Mist abandoned her duties and left Valhalla, vowing only to return when she had become an einherjar herself. She traveled to earth and adopted the guise of a mortal, though she found it difficult to act as a proper human should. Once she had got used the basics however, she set about making a name for herself, using her superhuman abilities to smite foes all across Scandinavia. Soon enough, Mist was feared by all. As she was an immortal, Mist decided to fake her death in order to become an einherjar. Unfortunately, she was a terrible actor, and could never properly pull off playing dead. Exhausted from her extensive acting, she fell asleep that lasted days. Mistaken for a fallen warrior, she was brought back to Valhalla. Now Mist is giddy to finally be doing what she loves - eating, drinking and fighting. Toki (TrumpetKing) Toki is an average nobody. A lost and demoralised human from earth, Toki stumbled by chance onto the Last Meadhall during his wanderings. Unfortunately he had nothing to contribute to the group, lacking in strength, courage, smarts or anything useful for a post-apocalyptic world. Depressed and broken by what he has experienced, Toki is usually the first to proclaim the doom of humanity and the futility of their mission. Nevertheless, he volunteered to join the expedition to reclaim Valhalla, perhaps in the hope that he may some day be of use. Kaupmad (KingoftheZempk) Kaupmad was once a Norse trader, more gifted with his tongue than with an axe. When Kaupmad died, he failed to fit in with the great warriors at Valhalla. He decided his talents would be put to better use elsewhere and began work as a lowly seller of fish and furs. With the coming of Ragnarok, both resources were greatly needed by the Einherjar and Kaupmad gladly provided them. It wasn't long before Kaupmad became one of the richest and most powerful men in Asgard. Wealthy and gregarious, Kaupmad acquired an army of devoted followers and established his own prosperous settlement. As the years passed however, Kaupmad's buyers died off and he found his settlement isolated. Unable to sustain themselves, Kaupmad and his people took all they could and marched to the Last Meadhall, hoping to gain new partners. Lauga (Lady K) Lauga was once a Norwegian princess. Whilst most of the menfolk were away on campaign, Lauga earned her place in Valhalla by defending her city against a viking raid. Despite her battle prowess, Lauga saw herself as a princess first and foremost, and enjoyed performing her royal duties. During the chaos of Ragnarok, Lauga remained composed and held onto her traditions. Ever optimistic and diplomatic, Lauga stands as a beacon of civilisation and stability to those around her. She also carries a MASSIVE axe. Just in case. Lambi (TheLazyChicken) Lambi is the youngest member of the Last Meadhall. Born during Ragnarok, Lambi is unable to comprehend a world that wasn't dying. Though outwardly sweet and innocent, Lambi already knows how to swing an axe and isn't afraid of a spot of killing here and there. At the rate she is learning, she stands to be one of the most dangerous warriors in a few years. Tarr Egg-Chaser (Tariq j) Tarr Egg-Chaser was a masterful cook from Sweden. After his death, Tarr was chosen by the gods to take up residence with the elite at Valhalla - mainly due to the food he'd provide than any true fighting skill. In spite of this, Tarr is useful in a fight. Ill-tempered, Tarr often takes out his frustrations on the food he prepares, though he's not opposed to taking it out on a dinner guest if they're closer by. He is sensitive about his food too, and doesn't take kindly to critics. Tarr remains the loyal cook to the band of surviving warriors, and can usually be heard shouting gibberish from behind his work-space. Munud the Strange (mostlytechnic) Munud the Strange was once an alchemist who served under the Holy Roman Emperor, whom he had great affection for. Munud's unsettling experiments never won him any friends at court however, and he was eventually forced to flee the Empire under suspicion of witchcraft. From there, Munud offered his talents to a crew of travelling vikings. Though they accepted him as one of their own, Munud never truly assimilated and always pined for his home. Upon his death and arrival in Valhalla, the gods entrusted Munud with developing new weapons to use at Ragnarok. Preferring to keep to himself, Munud delved deeper and deeper into research and eventually lost his grip on reality. The final traces of his sanity vanished during the onset of Ragnarok, when he inadvertently blew himself and his life's work up in an overambitious experiment. Now Munud hobbles around, offering up ways to preserve the human race. After his "ten females to each male" theory however, few still listen. Agnar Skull-Smasher (Adam) Agnar Skull-Smasher was once a Kievan noblewoman who decided to become a shieldmaiden in war. Wielding a mighty mace, she struck terror into the hearts of all who stood against her. Agnar was unflinchingly loyal to the Grand Prince, following him to her death. Her loyalty remained unquestioned at the tables of Valhalla, and was entrusted as one of the einherjar to fight a band of the mightiest of the frost giants at Ragnarok. Vastly outmatched, the attack was doomed from the beginning however, and few made it out alive. Of the few that did, Agnar proved to be the most resourceful and intelligent, and assumed command of the band of survivors. Agnar came to realise she was more suited to leading rather than following, and through blizzards and battles she united warriors who were long thought to have been lost. She became a powerful warlord in her own right, feared even among the giantfolk. As years of warfare raged on however, Agnar found her followers depleted. Realising she could not rebuild a world on her own, she lead her remaining party to the Last Meadhall, where hoped to find allies. Dar (Dragonfire) Dar was a viking berserker, brave to the point of foolishness. In his final battle on earth, Dar charged at the enemy jarl by himself, caring little for the hundreds of guards who stood between them. When he made it to Valhalla, Dar singlemindedly trained to improve his battle prowess, believing that this is what let him down rather than his lack of brainpower. At Ragnarok, Dar took part in a doomed attack against a superior force of giants. His courage never failed him however, and he somehow made it out alive alongside fellow einherjar Agnar. With no one else to follow, Dar became the most devout follower of Agnar, who gathered and led a mighty army for some time. As winter descended upon Asgard, Dar chose to remain shirtless as a sign of loyalty to his leader. This was a mistake however, and Dar now suffers from frostbite. Tarben the Wise (Tamamono) Tarben is the oldest living warrior left in the world. Once counted among the finest warriors of Valhalla, the years of Ragnarok have been unkind him. Sick and frail, Tarben can barely move by himself anymore. Though he is no longer of any use physically, Tarben's mind remains clear as ever. In addition to being a warrior, Tarben spent time as a priest and sage, making him a valuable advisor to his comrades. For this reason, the others attempt to accommodate him as best they can, carrying him from place to place in a makeshift bed. Brand (Brickelodeon) Brand is a lesser fire giant from the realm of Muspelheim, the fire world. As Ragnarok drew on, the fire giants of Muspell rode out, burning the world wherever they went. Though at first pleased to deal out chaos and destruction, Brand experienced a crisis of conscience the further he delved into civilisation. Curious about humanity, he abandoned his comrades at the Last Meadhall and began to observe the customs of mankind. Eventually, Brand gained the trust of his new human friends, and was admitted into their small society. Though sedate for the most part, Brand is still prone to the rare bout of wanton destruction, as is expected of a fire giant. Jarl Name-Loser (jluck) No one knows where Jarl Name-Loser came from. Even Jarl himself has forgotten. He surfaced shortly before the coming of Ragnarok, feral and unable to communicate with the Einherjar. He preferred his own company and resided somewhere in the wilderness, tricking any passersby for his amusement. When Ragnarok came, armies marched through Jarl's lands. Passing himself off as a kindly old man, Jarl preyed upon each army, turning them against each other and driving them out of his territory. He became much feared by men and giants alike, who feared he possessed magical powers. As wars raged on and his infamy became widespread, Jarl no longer saw any visitors. Bored, he searched out people to play with, bringing him to the Last Meadhall. Though a lover of all things chaotic, since Jarl was accepted into the group, he has become more attached to them than he'd care to admit. Jafri (Jackjonespaw) Jafri is a newcomer to the Last Meadhall. Little is known for sure about his past. Jafri claims to be Thor's son, and believes himself destined to become the head god of the new world he will help to create. Some doubt his story, denouncing him as a conman seeking power and riches. However, Jafri's calm, charismatic and optimistic persona is often enough to assuage any doubts. Whoever he may be, he remains one of the more tolerable members of the Last Meadhall. Ragnvald the Troll (Ranger of the Forest) Ragnvald is a fierce but dim-witted troll from the icy caves of Niflheim. Ragnvald lived in solitude for years until Ragnarok forced to search for a new home. Over the course of his journey, Ragnvald earned a fearsome reputation, terrorising villages and bridges and collecting tribute from them. Although Ragnvald enjoyed fighting puny humans, he recognised that their natural intelligence could be of use to him for his survival in an increasingly desolate world. He promised not to hurt any humans as long as they helped him find a new home, and he has since honoured his word. Lodmund the Dwarf (Lord Duvors) Lodmund the Dwarf is a hardworking metalsmith who helped to provide the finest armour and weapons for Ragnarok. Stubborn and easily riled, Lodmund makes for poor company and has actively sought to limit his interactions with others to a bare minimum. Lodmund became deeply obsessed with his metalworking, but once the local ore ran dry, he was forced to seek a new home. Reserves mediumsnowman Rules 1. 8. I think someone's found the mead already. I'm sending out roles now. Look for the confirmation thread once I've finished.
  9. Sorry about the delay, those character descriptions took longer than I thought. I'll send out your roles within the next 24 hours. Promise!
  10. Thanks for the interest everyone! I've been a little busy this week, but I hope to send out roles over the weekend. I'll keep sign ups open for another 24 hours before I finalise all the roles and characters.
  11. By my count, we've got 17 sign ups so far, which is a little less than I'd planned for. I'll leave the Sign-Ups open for a while longer, but hope to get the game started up in the next week. You've actually played as two characters before. Do you have a preference? Dagrun and Dagstyrr the Fool
  12. This game takes place after the events of Ragnarök Now: Redux, in which the world ended. Each of you will play the role of a Norse hero, struggling to survive in a post-apocalyptic Asgard. Game rules and mechanics will be similar to the previous two Ragnarök games. Roles will be mainly based around those used in Ragnarök Now: Redux, though there will be some changes made to reflect the flavour of the game. (None of this is vital, but here's a quick recap of where things left off): Since there have been no recent Mafia School games, and since there has been a general shortage of players lately, I will be allowing new players to sign up, provided they have a good understanding of mafia games. Experienced players will still receive first preference. To sign up, please answer these three simple questions: 1) Have you participated in a mafia game and/or passed a Mafia School game? If not, what steps have you taken to gain an understanding of EB mafia games and mafia games in general? 2) Will you be able to post regularly over the next 4-6 weeks? 3) If you have played a Ragnarök game before, do you wish to reprise your role as your previous character(s)? If you have NOT played a Ragnarök game before, you get to sit this question out!
  13. Hopefully coming in the next week or two...
  14. I didn't actually start a town block group PM until Day 4, as no one was really verified until that point. That's why I kept asking you for protection. The watcher/tracker role is pretty valuable too - the information you get can't usually be manipulated (by a godfather/framer, for instance) so in some ways it's a better role than cop. That role was so ridiculous I didn't expect a scum to make it up. Plus, since the punch appeared at the start of each day, it was easy to verify. Even if you were scum, you would have been forced to keep using a useless role every night rather than taking a proper scum action. I think I was the one who first brought that up.
  15. Thanks for another fun game Bob! The game ran very smoothly, and I enjoyed the pictures and humour you added. Great stuff! Good job, town! The scum did well enough too, I think they were just unlucky. After we lynched scum on the first day, it was always going to be hard to come back. I imagine things would have turned out a lot differently if I didn't have a role to claim that first day. This was my first time coordinating the town block, and it was a lot of fun to try things out, but I'll be happy to take on more of a supporting role next game. Too many PMs to read and too much accountability make my brain hurt. It just so happened that my copy of the Detective's Office arrived in the mail today. I'm sure I'll enjoy building Al's barbershop that much more after having played this game. To be fair, if you hadn't claimed cop, I probably would have suspected you too. I'm not sure what exactly it was though. It wasn't until I tracked you that I fully trusted you.
  16. I guess there isn't much to discuss actually. Vote: Ann Foster (StickFig)
  17. I'm guessing it lets Ann see what roles, if any, were directed against any one player each night. For example, she might spy on someone and see that a doctor targeted them, but not who the doctor is. It could kind of be helpful to confirm a few people, but it wouldn't be a huge loss. However, the way Ann has been behaving, combined with the fact that she was blocked on a scumkill-less night, leads me to believe she's most likely a Milano. I won't vote for her yet though, as there's still plenty to discuss and I don't want the day to finish early.
  18. That doesn't gel with the results I've been getting. When I tracked someone who had no night action, I was told that they didn't do anything that night. I would have expected you to be told something similar if you spied on someone and saw they weren't targeted by anyone. It was only on the night I was blocked that I was told I was unsuccessful. Or do you think you were blocked all three nights?
  19. Did all of your results say the same thing then? I would have thought that if you targeted someone who wasn't targeted at night, you would be told that, not that you were unsuccessful.
  20. Can you at least tell us who you targeted each day and what the results were? That might actually help us.
  21. If Eugene is to be believed, we only had one kill on Night Two because he can only kill every second day. However, last night's block is more promising, since Ace was the SK kill so apparently there was no scum kill. I'm guessing the vigilante is long gone. It was probably Katherine. I have been trying to get this cleared up with Ann in private. She has claimed to be the voyeur. However, she was very reluctant to give me this information and apparently hasn't yet got any results from her night action. It's still possible that the scum tried to kill me tonight but I was protected, but I think Ann is a pretty good lead for the moment.
  22. From my record, it seems you hammered Irene. He voted for her after that. Not that hammering Irene is much of a town tell - Irene was pretty much confirmed scum, and someone had to do it. Not voting for her would have been suicide. As for the Russell vote, I think he was going to come up as a lynch candidate yesterday regardless.
  23. It might be worth pointing out that Christopher voted for Brian when he wasn't in danger of being lynched and the bandwagon had clearly formed against me (though I guess maybe he didn't read that far ahead): He never did get around to explaining that vote. The rest of the votes on Brian came after I roleclaimed. Perhaps Russell was the godfather? He certainly asked to be investigated and tracked enough times.
  24. Apparently Eric has been cleared as a townie, but of course that doesn't rule out the possibility that he's the godfather. I can almost buy that three scum would vote for Sarah in a row since Brian would have been a big loss for the scum team, and because no one would normally expect three scum to associate with each other so obviously. Eric and Irene's almost simultaneous votes for Sarah, as well as Eric's reluctance to vote for Russell yesterday, both still bother me too. Personally I think there are better options to pursue today, but what does everyone else think of Eric?
  25. I might not be around for the rest of the day, so good luck getting a lynch! Both options seem ok to me, as long as one of them goes. If anyone hasn't yet claimed anything to me, please PM me now. If you're a vanilla, it doesn't matter, please PM me anyway. If you're not comfortable revealing your role, please PM me and tell me you're not going to claim to me. If you need a haircut, please PM me too and I'll schedule an appointment.
