I don't know, but I also get lots of clicking from the rear differential gear, but most of it comes from the inside of the gearbox. Here are some pics... Top Bottom ' I think I might have to reinforce the top of the chassis, but it would be a bit hard. It also may be the 8t gears like you said, but I need those to center the input. I think the best thing I should do is replace the 24t and 8t gray gears (you can see them on the right of the second picture of the bottom of the chassis) with 20t and 12t black gears to handle the torque. I did it before and it increased some of the clicking, so if I do it now, it might work. (I don't know about the rear differential though)

@DugaldIC I found where the gear grinding was. It was from the two black gears in Sariel's gearbox, but I don't know how to fix/reinforce it. Can you tell me how you reinforced the back of the gearbox where the two black gears are?

Overall I think all I need to do is some reinforcement techniques.

@DugaldIC I think I reinforced my gearbox a lot, but you have a point. Do you have a link where I can see the gearbox to see where you reinforced it?

@Aventador2004 I think the issue might be that I should replace some gears a little or something. The last time I switched gears the clicking reduced a shy bit, so I could give it a try.

I'm back again with another gear grinding issue but this one is a bit less critical. The grinding only occurs when my 4x4 SUV chassis (with Sariel's 4-Speed Sequential Transmission) is in a certain gear. Here's some photos of the chassis. The transmission is shifted to the speed where the nonstop grinding occurs. When in this gear (I believe it may be 3rd) The car is supposed to move, but it does very slowly while clicking noises fire like a machine gun. This is the only time when the gears grind other than, say, if the chassis hits a wall. When the clicking begins, I hear the driving rings shake (which awfully reminds me of the somewhat gear clicking in the Mercedes-Benz Arocs set). I would love a response a soon as possible to address the clicking problem so I can finish the chassis once and for all.

@tibivi Thanks! I'll be working hard on the GX EV3 this weekend. Wish me luck on the tranny!

@TheMindGarage That's a great idea! But should I still use Sariel's 4-speed except modify it a little bit more? While building some gearbox prototypes I was inspired by the one you used for your DRAG RAC3R (except I don't really need neutral) that was similar to Sariel's. I'll get back to work on the GX EV3 soon! I want to see if I could publish it in time for your community challenge (although it's an SUV, not a supercar).

This is my second post on the EuroBricks community and another question asking for as much help as I can get to master the art of the technic gearbox. Like I said in my previous post, for my Lexus GX EV3 4x4 SUV, I tried my best to use Sariel's 4-speed sequential and it ultimately failed on me. Quoting one of my replies... I would be relieved if I could finally finish this creation after five months of difficulty. Here are some pictures of the entire chassis. I said before that the issues with this was that the gears clicked a ridiculous amount at the highest gears which stopped the car from moving. (Hence the reason why the transmission I want needs to have a clutch gear to absorb the large amount of torque)

I'm having this issue too. After months I'm still trying to find the right gearbox like this (except four-speed) for my GX EV3. I tried Sariel's 4-speed sequential that's shifted by remote control and modified it many times, but it only resulted in high complexity and lots of gear grinding while the car was moving.

I really appreciate the responses, but my gearbox is still a mess. I don't know where exactly the clicking gears are. BTW the white clutch gear I didn't use it for the gearbox, I used it for the steering system so I can turn the wheels without moving the motor. I actually did put a white clutch gear at the end of the gearbox once, but the car didn't move at all because of the massive torque. Here's what I know. The gears click when going backwards at either 3rd or 4th gear (I don't know what gear is which, sorry). I can hold the car down and stop it from moving in this gear and when going in reverse the motors still move while the car is still, but when going foward, the motors stop (I avoided doing this again to prevent a motor stall) because the power managed to reach both differentials in the four-wheel-drive. I also found out something new after replacing the black gears at the end with more speedier gray ones. In either 3rd or 4th gear, there is so much grinding that the car can't move very much at all with the high torque the motors produce as well as the high gear ratio it has. I concluded that for the fourth time I absolutely have to completely rebuild my gearbox, after Sariel's 4-speed sequential ultimately failed on me. It would be a relief if any one of you could bring me a .LDD file or something of a working 4-speed sequential gearbox that can shift gears with a motor while the car is moving. I want this gearbox to make the car go pretty fast at last gear, but really torque-y at first gear for climbing hills. It needs to also have a white clutch gear that prevents clicking/grinding and so the motors can still move the car while another motor shifts the gears (by using an EV3 program where pressing a button switches to the next gear). If you have the time to create a gearbox like this in Lego Digital Designer for me, I would be very happy and excited to try it. Here's some pictures of the entire drivetrain. I'm sorry if it's too faded, I had to keep it under 40 kb.

I'm building a SUV drivetrain for my Lexus GX EV3 project that has independent suspension, four-wheel-drive, and a four-speed gearbox with a medium EV3 motor that shifts the gears. Unfortunately, after testing the drivetrain, I found that when in 3rd or 4th gear, the gears make a clicking noise when moving forward and then straight to backward. However, this clicking somewhat occurs less when going from reverse to forward. This clicking really "grinds my gears" and I don't know what to do to stop the gears from clicking. My gearbox is a custom version of Sariel's four-speed sequential that is fit for the vehicle I am building. The input in the transmission is switched to provide more speed. Two large EV3 motors drive the input. I've noticed that when the vehicle stops, it goes the opposite direction for a little bit. Also, like I already said, this clicking only happens in 3rd or 4th gear, but mostly the 4th gear since it brings the most speed. I tried to solve this clicking with different gears and whatnot, but no matter what they still clicked when the vehicle moved forward to backward. The motors and the gearing also bring a lot of torque as much as it brings speed, and this might be one of the problems. Is there any way I can solve this issue so the gear clicking will stop in this situation (moving foward and then straight to backward) for now on? Here's a photo of the bottom of the drivetrain. Thank you in advance for any assistance that you may be able to provide!
