If that's the cockpit, it does indeed appear to be in an odd position, if you assume that's the front of box... very well might turn out to be my imagination but I think it's the back of the box and I'm seeing hints of an interior...

@GryffindorResistance I don't suppose you're able to tell us where you saw this, not necessarily the very specific information, but a general idea... Was it a leaked image? A trade catalogue? Are you privvy to advance info in some way you can't fully share? Will totally understand if you can't answer this. I've been feeling that some further tangible info was coming, doubt we'll have to wait until Sept 1st to see or hear more! Thanks for the info you've shared already, it's very encouraging!

The Future of Lego Space. (opinions, ideas, discussion)
badgerboy replied to Trekkie99's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
For me: Blacktron 3: Mostly black fuselage with some fairly exposed engines using dbg and lbg with perhaps some carefully placed brown and dark orange maybe even some olive or dark green and dark blue on the body work to make things seem older and rusted here and there. Canopies in trans red and cockpits internal stuff in flat red. All manned by minifigures designed to look like droids with a group of leaders who're all partially droid in some way? Futuron: @Digger of Bricks I really liked your "friends" in space idea. Reckon they'd work quite nicely here with white, lilac, light azure etc. It's that space colony idea of yours and I'm seeing "Eden Project" style geodesic domes featuring in a really big set. Unrelatedly, but since I think you shared a couple of Lego dreams. I had one several years ago, it was like a warehouse garage I went to to do a Lego deal, when I got there it was like an old shop, but filled with Classic Lego Space sets, all mint. Stacks of 918, 924 and a couple of 6970 proudly displayed on a high shelf there were many other sets round and about a few that were entirely new (never existed). I was crushingly disappointed when I woke up.- 991 replies

I'd second this, but make the suggestion that it use bars or handles, making more akin to 30292, it might need a central support but there are more ways to connect to bar clip plates that way round, I think.

That first pic makes me inordinately happy!

The Future of Lego Space. (opinions, ideas, discussion)
badgerboy replied to Trekkie99's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
@MAB I posted the vaguest of vague comments and interpreted them in a way that I felt to be relevant to this topic. Bali's comment can be interpreted in many ways (what I originally wrote was intended to be a little tongue-in-cheek). For what it's worth, I'm not arguing with you, I understand how companies like Lego operate and how information given to the public is handled. You are right, it gives nothing away. I'm just suggesting that there is a positive spin that can be taken from this if you so wish.- 991 replies

Indeed it can mean "No, but I'm not giving you that information" or, "No, there is nothing planned." but in the context of the discussion his comment (in my opinion) alludes to something, and he would have said "there are no plans at the moment" if that's what he meant. Equally he could have meant "Yes, but it's probably not what you are expecting, and I don't want to disappoint or raise false hopes!" This is all conjecture, of course. The worst sort of speculation on virtually no information... it would be foolish in the extreme to lay any kind of a bet on Classic Space making a return as a full theme based on these words alone! I just think it means you can't rule it out either.- 991 replies

The Future of Lego Space. (opinions, ideas, discussion)
badgerboy replied to Trekkie99's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
It's old information/news now and it really doesn't give anything away, but Brick Fanatics attended the recent Fan Media Event and posted details of a talk given by Bali Padda. In the last of three posts detailing the interview, the question of classic space making a return was asked of him and he reportedly said "you'll have to wait and see!". Now, it may be entirely irrelevant, but Bali Padda is British, and here in the UK, whenever someone says "you'll have to wait and see!", they nearly always mean "Yes, but I don't want to confirm it to you right now!" My hopes aren't high but I think it could hint at some stuff that's coming from the Lego Movie Sequel... which was previously said to be set in space. Apologies for speculation based on vague comments and any other forum crimes I may have just unwittingly committed with this post!- 991 replies

@Digger of Bricks I'm a bit disappointed by the news that Megabrands might have a patent on dual sided plates... tbh I'd like to see LEGO release them profusely through their entire wave of sets in a "come and have a go if you think you're hard enough!" kind of way. See if Megabrands actually has the audacity to begin a lawsuit, if LEGO have struggled to enforce their patents in the past, why would Megabrands/Mattel have any more luck? From my understanding of patents, the patented item must have a new or novel application, a back-to-back plate shouldn't qualify. Back on topic though, I could use a stack of those 1x2 plates with open studs. I like these sets too, look like some interesting builds!

I'm very surprised Luke isn't in any of the first selection of sets. I don't own a hat but I guess I'd be eating it if I did! I like the look of a lot of these sets, from a 'build' point of view the two 'walkers' look like a lot of fun! I can wait for an old Luke.

I love this thing. Sorry for the 'off topic' everyone, but this is a great looking vehicle, hadn't seen it before. I hope they make one at some point. The new walkers are very similar I guess, I might just have to use that as the basis for a moc!

@Jedi-Bendu thanks for clarification, I read through twice checked his posts and still couldn't find that info! Thank you. I'm not going to go looking for this leaked image and so I'm probably going to end up with egg on my face over this, but I honestly believe Luke will be in the first wave of TLJ sets. It makes no sense for him to be omitted, unless he dies in the first act! I see that as a possibility but not a very likely one given the loss of Carrie Fisher, Episode VIII would be without any of the core trio from the original trilogy... and I just don't think Disney would allow that to be the case. Luke obviously wasn't going to be in the TFA sets, but given the absence of him in those sets, anticipation of him being in the upcoming sets for TLJ is bound to be high and I think there will be an extremely disappointed fan base if he isn't. Perhaps that's naive reasoning, and although I always prepare myself for curious decisions made by filmmakers and their promotional partners. I honestly can't see there being no Luke for children to play with. Even though we have a full list of 2017s expected sets at present, secrecy and all the other behind the scenes machinations relating to licensed product launches makes me think there are potentially surprises in store.

Are the jawas and tusken raiders confirmed in the tatooine bp? I thought it was only a name & set number that SVL provided. Could it not just as easily be a Lars farm with vaporator, stormies and an arch doorway on a turntable with a couple of black skeletons one side and Owen and Beru on the other? Having half jokingly suggested that, would a tusken raider set be that bad? It could have the slight possibility of containing a bantha, brick built or less likely moulded, but still, I think that would be a great addition. Is this now off topic though?

On balance, after hearing some compelling arguments above, I have to say I think I'd be happier to see an (if possible) better looking exterior. However, I'd very much like it if the internal structural frame permitted kitting out with at least a partial interior (for modding/customizing), a clear gangway between cockpit and hull would also be nice! Still just crossing my fingers that it's something I can justify to myself!

What a great piece! I do hope so!

I think you've got a nice idea. I hope you get lots of interest... Perhaps a 4x4 to work with a standard 2x2 tile? One issue I can see however, is how you interface at a wall or corner. It may require half or two third width tiles which might get messy?

MOC Jabba's custom TIE Fighter ''Choba Mafa''

What a wonderful idea! Do you think brown/rusty accents would help make it feel more of a 'Hutt' vehicle? It's a lovely build though anyway.- 24 replies

I don't think there's been any definite details on Luke, but I wouldn't be worried. I think you could lay a sizeable bet on his appearance in at least one of the upcoming TLJ sets.

I used to work making promotional toys, so I understand the marketing drives behind the exclusive sets, I know how these things are orchestrated to create a buzz and a "must have" mentality among the specific demographic. The same impact is created when the product is more like the "space slug" or the "cell block" and they're not made from unique parts. A posh box, a certificate, a display stand and even fairly rare pieces could be utilised. I think that even if it was simply a early release (six months perhaps?) of a batch production run (numbered too!) that would be enough. The issue, for me at least, is who is being "pleased" by this and who is benefiting.

Apparently there has been a bit of a fan backlash on social media regarding the SDCC exclusive Brickheadz. Uncharacteristically, Lego have responded, according to Brickfanatics. 'Traditional' is a very weak excuse in my opinion. I'm not collecting Brickheadz and am trying to view this impartially but I don't understand why they have chosen such a high profile pairing. IF they were variants or less high profile I could understand but Spider-man and Venom have a very strong following of collectors, not only from Lego fans, so competition will be even greater for those people who genuinely want to own this set. I also think this also means that there will be a lot of sad children out there. Is there some way that the weight of opinion from the rest of the world could lobby Lego to stop doing this at all? I find store exclusivity a bit of a tough pill to swallow, so these convention exclusives seem to me to be a step too far, whether they're 'traditional' or not. If there is a regular release of these individually, I think that's fine, otherwise I think it's a really sad and strange way for any company to behave, especially one that is so very, very good to their customers from many other perspectives!

Lego Licensed Parts available from Bricks & Pieces
badgerboy replied to LegoPercyJ's topic in LEGO Licensed
I've ordered from them a fair few times, the part/parts haven't ever arrived within two weeks, sometimes I think it's taken them that long to dispatch. I'm in the UK fwiw. I always get twitchy too, but they've never, ever failed to deliver! They even tracked down some stickers for a set I'd had for a few years and then decided to open... set then retired and they were out of stock online! It took a while, but after six weeks or so, the stickers arrived with a letter of apology for the delay! Lego's customer service is in my experience the very, very best there is. Phenomenal in fact. -
Sorry, I don't recall that bit of discussion... but I will second your good idea now. Does discussing the rumour of a new falcon really exclude speculation based upon new parts appearing in other sets? For me, a rumour is strengthened by seeing new parts that are undeniably perfect for the job. That new trans-blue 'cockpit' cone piece is perfect for realising the falcon's cockpit. If there were new macaroni slopes perfect for the docking rings and they appeared in another new set, would it really be that irrelevant to mention them here?
