LEGO Ideas: 21310 Old Fishing Store (Fall 2017)
Elysiumfountain replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Town
I believe so. I know that it takes at least 6 months or so after the announcement for them to design box art, redesign the set (if they do at all), and all the little details. -

What should or should not be on Lego Ideas?
Elysiumfountain replied to Wodanis's topic in General LEGO Discussion
In my defense I will say that my digital projects were only created when I was lazy, at school away from my brick collection ;) But at least the others are brick built! I really think for me it's about quality. If it looks substantial or that the creator put some effort into it, I'll support it! -
LEGO Ideas Discussion

To this day, the LEGO Ideas process still confuses me at times. They definitely have their marketing down, but some of their decisions can be a bit...interesting to understand. I wonder how LEGO itself figures out set designs, because there are a couple products out, not even from the Ideas line but from other LEGO product lines, that would never have made it through the Ideas process lol. -
What should or should not be on Lego Ideas?
Elysiumfountain replied to Wodanis's topic in General LEGO Discussion
That is true! I've often wondered that about the process as well, and especially when I see some of the things that LEGO produces, even outside the Ideas line. There are some things that LEGO produces by themselves that I personally think would never have made it through the Ideas process. I recall a couple of months ago there was a project submitted that shot up to the 10,000 in less than a couple weeks. When I mentioned it on another forum, someone told me that they probably had a fantastically design thing and that mine should look more like that. Except for the fact that the project in question, although really nicely designed, was based on a popular IP and gained almost all its support from Facebook and a couple of Reddit threads. So I've always wondered how well Ideas works for people who don't have large social media presences... -
What should or should not be on Lego Ideas?
Elysiumfountain replied to Wodanis's topic in General LEGO Discussion
That is a valid point, a lot of digital models get passed over because of those very reasons. Although there are some people who gain massive followers with clearly digital rendered projects. (I think these people must either have used a popular IP, their project is a MOC with tons of detail, or they just have a large Twitter following ;) ) But I've definitely noticed that all my brick-built projects have a lot more supporters than the digital ones, so there's that. I meant to say mega-MOC, not just a regular MOC lol -

It reached 10K? I didn't even notice, I'll have to go see! Good for them! Now if only I can get my projects up there.... Hm.. -
I love the whole design, especially how you were able to keep that amount of detail in such a small baseplate! Is that a 16x32 baseplate, incidentally?

Here's another update regarding this MOC, as well as a snazzy picture of the Express stopped at the grand Gare de Lyon Headquarters train station that we have just built!
-
That is indeed beautiful! It would be nice to have a set like that designed, maybe someone should make one on Ideas, although that's sadly not the best place for trains...
-
Off the top of my head I can't really think about trains that have global recognition. Maybe the Orient Express? Even though it's more of a concept line that has applied to many trains over the years, but at least some people are familiar with the Agatha Christie novel. I think there's a remake of the movie coming out in November if I'm not mistaken. But I agree, it is indeed hard in that respect.
-
Speaking of which, I wonder which of the 90 something LEGO train ideas would have the most chance of making it? Sadly trains are not the number one supported type of project on that site, but I'm hopeful at least some of them would get votes. I know I definitely vote for a lot of them!

This is an update on the status of my Gare de Lyon MOC, which is now being grouped with this project :) The clock faces arrived, and so here's a picture of a couple of minifigs next to the clock tower!
-
Unless LEPIN steals their idea, and then they end up with nothing!
-
^ That is true, I just wish that some of them got more support, they look like really decent projects! But then again, some people would only look at it and think "train" and only go for it if it has fantastic colors? And then others would overanalyze and expect that a model train be exactly like the real one down to the last detail.
-
I would love to see another Emerald Night-type train, that would be cool! (Especially seeing as I came along a little too late to get one before the price skyrocketed). But even if they could make something based off of a really recognizable named train, that would be cool, at least maybe some people would be interested if it was something they'd seen in movies or such. Then again, I can't really complain because I have my Orient Express, so I'm satisfied for the moment. :)

Update on the MOC: I put in some new green seats into the Passenger Coach that make it look a lot more elegant, and now there's not too much red on the inside! Tell me what you think! :) I'm currently a little over budget on my Gare de Lyon project, but sometime in the foreseeable future I may add a second car to the train, we'll see.
-
This is my newest project to date! With the Orient Express rapidly gaining support on Ideas, I figured that it needs a train station at which to make stops and pick up passengers and things. Sadly, the old Glacier Falls Train Station, while adequate, is not entirely compatible with an elegant express train! The solution? A MOC of the famous Parisian station Gare de Lyon! Keep in mind I had to chop off a large part of the middle section to save space and keep the part count down! But even so, it weighs in at 5550 parts! This new station will shortly be replacing the old station for the best services offered to minifigs everywhere! What are you waiting for? Book your LEGO Orient Express tickets today! :) A small half-model of this station is also up on LEGO Ideas. If you want to support it, the link is https://ideas.lego.com/projects/165139

Here's one of my smaller MOCs, the Half Modular Jewelry Store! I originally made this as a glass shop, but then I realized that not many people would recognize a glass shop and so I converted the downstairs area into a pretty jewelry store. This building has an elevator on the side and is compatible with all the regular Modular buildings. The upstairs is an apartment with a large kitchen and chandelier, and the roof features a garden! Here is the Flickr page for this MOC: https://www.flickr.com/photos/150692089@N03/albums/72157676732056872 Please tell me what you think!

I'll be creating a small model of a train station to go along with this, I'll post it up here when it's finished!

[MOC] Hotel retaurant Marriott,11000 parts!!!
Elysiumfountain replied to jalemac34's topic in LEGO Town
I am speechless, what a fantastic hotel! The tiling on the hotel restaurant floor is just exquisite! And the themed rooms definitely tie it together. Although I would personally steer clear of the nightmare room! From the side, it also kind of looks like a giant Cape Cod style house with the siding, the windows, and the roof colors! -
What should or should not be on Lego Ideas?
Elysiumfountain replied to Wodanis's topic in General LEGO Discussion
And then there are the occasional people who follow and comment on every project regardless of quality just because they want to boost their member rating. (Although I am guilty of some of this, I'll admit, but not for the member rating!). It seems to me that the number of votes to views on a project hovers around 1 to 10. And of course it may be that half of the people viewing the project don't have a LEGO ID and/or don't want to make one, or just aren't interested so they don't vote. This is true for some of the exceptionally built, moderate, and above average projects. I do think it is sad though when perfectly decent projects that have a viable chance of making it get passed over.
