  1. Outstanding! There’s so much going on here that’s so awesome, and the build is huge! I really like your use of colors, not only as a singular color palette but also your consistency with your other builds of Zamorah . I think it lends a cohesiveness that gives a sense of all of your builds being connected. I also love how you were able to pack multiple substantial builds for HSS into the same larger build without sacrificing detail on any of them. The armorer is brilliant with the gold pieces, the observatory is awesome, and the cooper is great, but my favorite is the cheesemaker. Really great use of pieces (and cheese wedges!). I like the detail on the roofing shingles on each of the buildings and the well, too. The sand green steep roof on the observatory is really nice. All around superb! Great job!
  2. Had this the last two times. If you’re VIP logged in and reload the cart page, it showed up for me both times. Same problem with Pick a Brick. Good luck!
  3. You’re welcome! As for trying new techniques, it’s not fear but time that gets in my way. I am very time limited for building so for a challenge trying a new technique is a good way to miss deadlines as I play, so I try and save new techniques for free builds. As it is, I spend a lot of time away from my bricks (as I am now), so I pretty much have time to check in here and comment. The good news is that this time I’m on vacation which means one of my two yearly trips to some LEGO stores, so I’ll have more bricks!
  4. Do I smell a Kaliphlin mini challenge? Lol
  5. Very nice work! As usual, I am impressed. A lot of the techniques you use I have seen before (the fort bricks for a roof, the turntable stained glass, etc.) but you take a bunch of them and combine them seamlessly. I really like the owl decorations and the sign down below. The whole thing has a great feel. Well done!
  6. One of the great aspects of the guilds in my opinion, is that we are so flexible. Some of the games on here are strict with regard to geography or rules. We have a few rules, but they’re usually not structurally organized (stuff like the DeVine isle being reserved for future use and thus off limits to build in, much as Varlyrio once was). Otherwise, if you want a cherry tree high in the snowy mountains of Mitgardia, then go for it and use your story and build to show why it should be there. As for centaurs, they are traditionally found in temperate forests according to legend, so The forests of Avalonia make sense. Not to say the pine forests of Mitgardia or the strange trees in Nocturnus couldn’t house centaurs, maybe even a different subrace. Varlyrio could hold some as well. Maybe Kaliphlin has some that are more like camels? Who knows. People here are very creative and I think you’ll find that people are receptive to new ideas and creativity. We have a good group of builders here and get a lot of great feedback.
  7. There will be some vineyards if you make them! The GoH are pretty fast and loose, so make it up!
  8. I just make them up and try to make the name sound like the race, so dwarves names with more consonants, elven names with more vowels, etc. human names are all over the place. The only thing is if you want a specific meaning you have to do some research. Elven is a real language Tolkien made up and a society called the Grey Company maintains an online dictionary, so if you want an elf named “southern star” or something, you can actually look up those words. That only really works for elvish though.
  9. What a bright, gorgeous MOC! I am impressed you managed to make this without grey! I love the idea of the miller and his elven wife and their children! I was going to suggest you submit this for HSS, but I see you already did so. The orange carrots for thatch are great! Are they pretty stable? I really like all the flora and your detailing there. The stream and mill are superb, too. I am really enjoying seeing your builds. Great work!
  10. Usually you choose a sigfig for a book which lasts for a year or two. Some modification can be OK but you can’t change guilds until a book change. If you like Arya but she’s too big you can always look at the centaur torsos on Brickforge. The mods can answer more if you ask in the Avalonia thread.
  11. Not at all. A lot of the city folks use their sigfig to represent themselves. We just make up some character we think is fun and interesting and callnit a sigfig regardless of if it has any bearing on ourselves. Some folks have undead sigfigs so don’t worry about it! Choose something you want to write about and go from there.
  12. GoH is Guilds of Historica , the subforum we are posting in right now. It’s the role building game that’s loosely organized in order for us all to get some feedback on our historic MOCs.
  13. My mistake! I thought she was your sigfig! In any case, nice work, and welcome to the guilds!
  14. Thanks! I wanted to do something larger, but just didn't have the time. I figured more detail in a smaller MOC was better than less detail in a larger one. I think the serving girl is handing out water, but it could just be moonshine! I think if I do a palisade again, I'll make it a lot more uneven, especially since it is a temporary wall and not something anyone would bother to make uniform as if it were a permanent wooden fort. What you see in the last photo is a vine, not a ship's wheel. You can see it a little better in some of the other pictures. Thanks a bunch! I had fun positioning the minis who were digging. Yes, the Med Nougat was supposed to represent a rope. I'm not entirely convinced by it myself, but it added some texture, so I left it. Hopefully we will see more of the dry moat when I eventually build the full town wall. Thank you! Hopefully next time I'll have something larger. Thanks a bunch! I enjoyed posing the minis and was glad to have at least one substantial entry to the challenge!
  15. Thank you for your comments. I know that this isn't a lot of a build, but I was hoping a few people would get a laugh out of the Duplo chicken and perhaps be intrigued by the story, which I hope to follow up on.
  16. Really excellent build. You do a great job using the altbricks colors to great effect; your builds have a painting-like quality to them that I appreciate, and your use of the leaves with the same colors on the ground for fallen leaves is awesome. The two lanterns and the bundle of firewood are very nice touches to the build. I like the use of the textures on the walls--enough to say that the building isn't brand new, but between it and the roof, it indicates that the structure is well tended and not run down. The headlight bricks for windows is also quite nice. I neglected to mention this in your last build, but your photography and lighting are top notch. Great job!
  17. Very cool! I like the articulation in the joints and the creative use of the hairpiece for a tail! And welcome to GoH! I would recommend that you post your character introduction in the Avalonia thread as well so all of us avalonians can say hi and HQ can add you to the register. Look forward to seeing some of your builds!
  18. Thank you for all those! I now need to go back through my minis and turn them all around to see their backs! I never thought about that before I saw your collection of minis!
  19. Spectacular. That is a really great build, and I'm glad to see you still building for GoH! The castle is amazing for all the reasons everyone pointed out above, but I'd like to point out that I think my favorite part is the outdoor ground cover. You really blended the dark green and green colors very well, giving it a natural look, something that I don't find that easy with only the foliage pieces. The top down shot is great, too--helps give a bit of perspective to the other shots. Great work!
  20. Good grief! You’re tearing it up with new MOCs! Very nice work again. I like the color choices here: the dark green grass implies to me it’s an older more shadowed grass, and it fits with the crumbling wall, which is very well done with the plate layering and the section askew by the way. The bright lime green is a nice juxtaposition and offsets the other darker colors, calling attention to it. The skeleton hanging near the banner is a nice touch. It appears that you have part of an interior wit the bottle and the small railing near the muck, too. Really enjoying reading of Eoin and Erdan! Keep up the great work!
  21. This is a really fantastic set of figures! I love the detail and the thought that went into all of them! I particularly like how you turned around Hufflepuffs torso for the Solveigs shirt. A few of the torsos I didn’t recognize but look terrific. Where did those from Dagmar, the blacksmiths wife and daughter and the hunter come from? I need to add those to my wanted list on Bricklink. I’m very excited to see your first build!
  22. I agree very much that GoH is its own community. There are a bunch of people nearly unique to this sub forum that I rarely see elsewhere (and vice versa). There are unwritten rules here, too, about only posting MOCs in their own posts and not creating new topics here. This New Members guide also doubles as a general discussion, which is a little odd. Perhaps the time has come for one of the mods to create a general discussion sticky here? As much as I don’t want to clog up the first page with more stickies, I think such a topic could be quite useful.
  23. I was intrigued by a number of the BrickWarriors parts initially and bought some, but have been disappointed in the quality. They do not feel like real Lego in my hand and I am unsure if they are made with ABS or not. I am also not a fan of their mini designs. I have found that BrickForge parts feel like good quality to me, although they don't seem to be doing a lot of design work or have a lot of inventory these days. Citizen Brick is outstanding, but they don't have a lot of new stock most of the time. EclipseGrafix can be good, although they appear to UV print to me, which leaves raised surfaces that some people don't like.
  24. Perhaps no one here is interested, although you and KaiNRG were the last time, and I wanted to share the pieces related to GoH here if there are people like me that rarely read outside this forum. However, I will no longer post any non-GoH material here.
  25. Holy cow! I'm amazed you have time to build with a little one around the house, but good for you! This is a great build. Your builds do such a great job of using all the available space, left to right, and top to bottom. The split levels between the first and second stories, with the trees reaching above are great. One of my favorite details is the tree that has grown out of the inside of the ruined house. That gives me a sense of how long the houses have been ruined--long enough for a volunteer tree to grow through the ruins. The olive green parts on the statue and ground matching the olive green vines growing on the sides of the houses also lend themselves to implying some mold or moss growing on old stone. There's a lot of great detail here that I love. I also like how you're weaving this into your initial story of a disease having come through and wiped out a large amount of the local populace at one point. Beautiful build! I will keep my eyes open for more!
