  2. Holy smokes. I make one request so I'm dictating, get told to shut up or leave and I'm entitled too. Look, I'm not going to drag this on any longer as a lot has happened since, but I've apologised for going off, those who felt they should have apologised to which I'm grateful, and some have had their say. If that's not enough for you then that's really your problem, not mine. That's it now I'm happy to draw a line under this and move on. There's a few lists dotted around here that need addressing. Ten favourite DC Heroes 1. Space Batman 2. Plastic Man 3. Metamorpho 4. GA Wonder Woman 5. Post New 52 Wonder Woman 6. TLBM Green Arrow 7. Arkham R/c Batman 8. Hawkman 9. Jessica Cruz 10. 3. Not what I've said. Again not what I've said. Compromise does work both ways. I've had to put up with this crap for months and months, but I request (not expect) those doing it - so not everyone - to dial back a bit and I get told to shut up and leave. Do let me know where the compromise is. These god awful excuses for jokes aren't the result of some natural urge, they are a deliberate choice, and the fact that rather than tone it down just a little bit the consensus has been go megablocks yourself, may explain why it's got a little bit testy.
  4. At great risk of wanting to bang my head against a brick wall I will elaborate again that I am fully aware that they are not meant at anyone's expense, nor mean spirited. In fact at no point have I said anything about that being the case, which leads me to believe that you either don't know about the myriad ways that trauma manifests, or feel that it somehow doesn't apply here because you don't like the idea of your 'jokes' causing someone distress. I have also expressed my feelings on the difference between running jokes and flogging a dead horse, for what it's worth. The one thing I really struggle to understand however is why it's so difficult for some people to say, "sorry, I didn't realise that what I was doing was distressing you, I'll try and do better, bear with me", like an adult instead of, "they're just jokes, get over it", and don't see how that fits in the sphere of bullying and harassment. By reinforcing your belief that they are just jokes you are echoing the biggest excuse for unnecessary behaviour. And again, it's not what the words mean to me or the subject matter, it's the distortion of perfectly acceptable words that is eliciting a trauma response. You can see that and help a member of the community out, or ignore it and tell them to leave because you're too busy having fun to care about them. I know what I would do.
  5. As I have broached this subject more than once, expanded on my reasons for my disdain, apologised to those I've upset and accepted the apologies of those who have proffered them, I feel I have little more to say on the subject, save repeating myself. I have previously explained in depth about how this thread has long been one of my personal sanctuaries, and how the introduction of this subgenre from Reddit has conflicted with that. On the back of doing that I asked people to dial it back on account of asking everyone who likes it to stop being unrealistic. Many have. Every now and then it explodes and I get bored of telling people that they are stupid when they themselves ask the question. I have said several times that should anyone ask that particular question then I will respond in the affirmative, and it has led the civil discourse to continue. I'm not sure what more you require.
  6. Apologies for the tirade but it wasn't particularly clear, at least to me. It's not bullying and I appreciate that it's not meant that way, but this whole using ridiculous words in lieu of actual words was the basis of several years of continuous harassment, knowing that it was distressing to me. It even continued years later on meeting the people who did it to me in another setting, just to see if I would still get agitated. Oddly enough it manages to carry an echo some thirty odd years later. That's neurodivergency for you. Thank you for the consideration. Apology accepted, I appreciate that you certainly weren't doing it with any malice, thank you. I'm grateful to the mods for letting us get away with straying far off topic, but on the whole we keep things generally DC. It strikes me that if you're a fan of DC Lego then you're usually a fan of DC (unless you're Finnish and green), and would be keen to discuss the subject in broader detail.
  7. Of all the stupid things anyone has said regarding that stupid lingo, this is by far and away the most stupid. Don't take it as a compliment, it is genuinely the worst idea in the history of ideas and I will more than happily up my quota of calling you stupid. It might not even be anything to do with it, but I will call you stupid, Stupid. There's a few very good reasons, one of them being that it is a horrendously stupid idea. I will gladly leave Eurobricks if that utter crap gets any form of validation outside of having to tolerate it within the thread. Having asked everyone to dial back on it because of it unearthing childhood trauma of being bullied with this same said method, and been loudly ignored, I can't think of a more asinine suggestion. I find it remarkable a community that embraces inclusivity and acceptance is so prepared to repeatedly ignore someone's distress because their overdone and therefore boring gag is more important. But you do you.
  8. I feel it's more a stain on the writer and artist's copybooks than it is on the character. I feel that the Darkness is more responsible than Diana here. In the interest of balance she's also been a Star Sapphire, trounced BWL, been a successful ambassador for Themyscira as well as a Goddess. Definitely nuanced, is Diana. I struggle with Turtle's opinion that she's boring. Ironically when she lost her powers it was actually boring.
  9. Does Guy know that Mary Marvel is an avatar of a young teenager? With her powers she resembles her mother, and there's no mention of her youth throughout or after that confrontation, nor does anyone on the team kick his big behind for it. I'm not sure what Giffen was thinking of here, because his JLI Guy was a parody jock tool, not a sexual assaulter.
  10. I will happily sit here and say that there's no point including B-list villains, because I'm quite confident that Batman could best most B and lower rogues of any gallery. I would also admit that it's quite a mean request of mine because not many people can name a huge number of Superman's villains, not least the turtle, who based on this did not write this No. I am ready for Absolute Power. This is why grammar and clarity are important. Our green friend claimed one set of villains was better than another. At no point did he emphasize popularity over ability. Good grief Charlie Brown.
  11. Quite the understatement. No, we're good thanks. It hasn't even been released in Japan yet, give them half a chance. Unfortunately your argument falls down at point 1 due to point 10. The best selling comic remains X-Men #1 from 1991. Point 2 doesn't really make one better than the other. 3 is to miss some of the best moments from Justice League and Justice League Unlimited. 4 has to include the storylines where Batman had powers. 5 is redundant when Superman doesn't need gadgets. 6 is debatable. A man who is the ultimate immigrant and more powerful than anyone else on the planet does everything he can to be the best person he can be while elevating others, Vs an unfathomably rich man who can't let go of how he became orphaned. 7 again he doesn't need them. 8 Batman's origin is a recognised trope, Superman's was specifically devised to reflect the American Dream, and it's a matter of opinion. 9 name five Superman villains that can't beat Batman. 10 Superman doesn't need gadgets or a ridiculous bank balance. Anyone can claim anything if you twist it the right way.
  12. That's the average price of each piece in the set. If you sold the pieces individually some would be worth more than others, depending on rarity, popularity, and size. It's not so much a war film as it is evocative of films like The Dirty Dozen or Kelly's Heroes. An ensemble cast that won't all make it through to the end.
  13. Polka-Dot Man is a Batman villain, Harley is Harley, King Shark first appeared in Superboy, Bloodsport in Superman. Rick Flag is the Suicide Squad team leader. Peacemaker was from a different company called Charlton before DC bought it out and had his own series as an antihero. Javelin was from Green Lantern, Weasel was in Firestorm. Savant first faced the Birds of Prey. TDK is a variation of a Legion of Super Heroes character. Captain Boomerang is a Flash Rogue. Mongal is from Superman. Ratcatcher II was created for the film but is the daughter of a Batman villain. Blackguard was in Booster Gold. The Thinker was a villain of the original Golden Age Flash. Starro was the first adversary of the Justice League. Amanda Waller is a villain to pretty much everyone.
  14. To me this is one of the best DC films out there and one of my favourite films of all. I like old war films and this was a great homage to some of the classics, as well as a brilliant piece of cinematography.
  15. It means quite a lot. Lego can be a hobby and it can be a business. If it's a hobby then you will have a limited amount of your income to dedicate to it. That amount varies from person to person, but everyone except the offensively rich has to justify the money they spend, be it allowance, savings, or disposable income. For some their income doesn't rise in accordance with their outgoings, in which case that Lego budget gets smaller. Let's take an example with this theme. Set 7781 The Batmobile: Two-Face's Escape from 2006 contained 386 pieces and cost £24.99, meaning price per piece was 6.5p. Set 76274 Batman with the Batmobile vs. Harley Quinn and Mr. Freeze from 2024 contains 435 pieces and costs £54.99, meaning price per piece is 13.8p. That's more than double. If you want a more recent comparison 76224 Batmobile: Batman vs. The Joker Chase from 2023 contained three more pieces but cost less, being 438 for £42.99 or price per piece of 9.8p. That's 4p per piece or 45% increase in a year. I would really like the new set, but this is one time when I am definitely going to be looking for a reduced price. If you have a career buying Lego for model making then a reflective price increase will mean that the amount of Lego you can buy for a set price will go down. This means that either your fees go up or your models get smaller or both. If you buy Lego to sell on like for example someone on Bricklink, then the price you pay will mean either your profit margins get smaller or you charge more for the things you sell. Incidentally there are freak spikes in value of sets like the original Batmobile, which now consistently commands ten times it's retail price on the after market. In short price per piece might be a fan made thing but it is incredibly important.
  16. By simply removing context I can change the tone of the conversation entirely.
  17. I'm a big fan of the lengths comic creators would go to to milk the idea that one's career should determine the superhero/villain identity. Some of them are just rubbish because they were just jumping on the bandwagon, but Planet Master was actually a considered character. The introduction of the CCA meant that creators had to take their imagination in other directions when conceiving alien characters. They couldn't go too gruesome so went with the tried and tested method of stick to what you know. Where gadgets were based on real objects with a tweak, aliens - and specifically early Green Lanterns - were drawn from fauna and in a couple of cases flora. Naut Le Koi precedes Admiral Akbar's race the Mons Calamari by a good stretch too.
  18. Aye, but you don't see him in a fully realised Sinestro Corps uniform. For me it floats in that first appearance Vs cameo space. It's certainly up there in the top tier favourites.
  19. There was a story called Forever Evil, where an evil version of the Justice League from a different Earth (the Crime Syndicate from Earth-3) crossed over into Prime Earth. They kidnapped nearly all of the Justice League, hid them inside the Firestorm Matrix and pronounced them dead. They also tried to make all the world's villains join them, and most said yes. Then they outed Dick Grayson as Nightwing and stuck him in a torture machine which technically kills him. The only two JL members not taken were Cyborg and Batman. Cyborg was badly damaged by his evil counterpart so was out of the battle. Batman teamed up with Catwoman and made their way to Wayne Enterprises to find a secret weapon, where they met Lex Luthor's team of rebel villains and a team of proper villains led by the evil Green Lantern called Power Ring. Batman's secret weapon turns out to be a Yellow Lantern ring, which he wears briefly but his plan doesn't work. The ring summons it's master Sinestro who kills the evil Green Lantern. Batman joins forces with the rebel villains and it's glorious until the story's climax and the team disbands.
  20. Why? It feels redundant citing a variation of the same few characters in a multiverse populated by tens of thousands of characters. I can expand on it for clarity. Niles Caulder because he's the leader of my favourite hero team but is far removed from a hero himself. Naut Le Koi's Silver Age appearance is essentially a fish in a bowl on a humanoid body, and his name is Koi. My favourite era of comics is the Silver Age and this for me is one of the underrated characters. What else can I say about Planet Master that isn't brilliant? Naturally for a villain he's a scientist. By being exposed to gases released by a meteorite he gained a split personality, and the evil personality turned to a life of crime. Being an astronomer and being affected by a meteor led him to use planets as his theme. This then leads to his costume having Saturn's rings as accessories and weapons based on the planets. Like I said the Silver Age produced some great characters. The first DC comic I ever read had Gentleman Ghost in it, and I've never forgotten it. I've got Atom & Hawkman 43 which was far cheaper than Flash 88. I saw Etrigan in the DCAU before I encountered him in the comics, but I bought a collection of Jack Kirby work and that was that. I've always loved Black Manta. Nothing more to add other than he was for a long time the best thing about Aquaman stories. B'wana represents more Silver Age weirdness, but I grew a fondness for the character after seeing his story arc in Batman Brave and the Bold. If I had to narrow The Batmen of All Nations down to one member it would be Knight or Gaucho. I went Gaucho. I could just as easily have gone for an equivalent villain and frankly I can't get better than Dai Laffin. Ever since I first saw that Carmine Infantino cover of Strange Adventures 205 I've been hooked on Deadman. Being an Eighties kid I grew up with late night, low budget horror, and Deadman is at home with that. Lobo is Lobo. He has a dog and space dolphins.
  21. Wait, the green guy isn't really AI is he?
  22. @CloneCommando99your question has been sufficiently answered. I tend to go with the more out there characters in no particular order: 1) Niles Caulder 2) Silver Age GL Naut Ke Loi 3) Planet Master I 4) Gentleman Ghost 5) Etrigan 6) Black Manta 7) B'wana Beast 8) el Gaucho 9) Deadman 10) Lobo Sorry Turtle, I can't conform to a Batman centric world.
  23. I think it's brilliant you like Batman because he has no powers and is therefore for adults, yet feel that Watchmen is really not for you. It's just so delicious. I got into DC through Batman some 37 years ago, and encountered Marvel a couple of years later and really didn't resonate with it. The fact that you are saying that on a forum about Lego Batman (Duplo, 4+, Juniors, typical age range 7 - 14 years) makes me worry that no matter how delicious, I might not be able to finish the whole thing. And for the record I'm looking forward to reading about the exploits of Sphincter Ear. I'm guessing he's a non-powered vigilante who just wants to make his city safe.
  24. Meh, it's a list describing the themes found in the forum, so most obvious would be start with the most popular. All I would change is remove Simpsons and include Potter. Indeed, but that's the case for every character - the company can't create new properties without writers and illustrators. Siegel and Shuster created the character before they joined the company, but they signed a contract that handed everything over to their employer. The rights of creators has been a long fought battle that centres around the fact that if you create or present a previously conceived character whilst employed by a comic book publisher, then that character stays with the company after you've gone. To wit, saying that DC had to buy the character isn't a situation unique to Superman. That the creators had to fight to get credit only demonstrates that they had immediate seller's remorse. The $130 (not £82?) that DC paid might not seem like a lot, even in today's money at $2890, but at that point literally no one else was interested in buying the character so they considered themselves lucky to get that money until they found out that Action Comics 1 sold out it's entire print run and the series was racking up million strong sales a month. And it's not like DC/NAP knew that they had bought a golden goose, as they only chose Superman for a dynamic looking cover and it took time to realise that comic was incredibly popular because of Superman. If you want to get into the really stupid nuances of character ownership and rights then it's the sad tale of Captain Marvel and Fawcett Comics you need to look up.
