DC Superheroes 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
RedHoodPug replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
There's a certain Morbius feel to this whole Keaton thing. I get that he's a popular Batman and people are glad to see him back, but we now have knowledge of five Keaton Batman sets in one wave. It's like someone at TLG went "alright, Keaton's pretty hot property right now, so let's not mess this up like when we've missed popular characters". The tie-in is pretty loose, none of those Jokers resemble Nicholson. -

Oh yeah, my bad. Still, I would say that it wasn't included because that valuable spot was given to Max, thank god -

It does, it’s in the suit room so that Keaton can go from not being able to move his head to being able to get in the car. -

Checks and balances. There are ways of doing things without it being black and white. And no, no amount of additional printing would make Max Shreck a desirable figure for me, but Catwoman’s costume is absolutely covered in stitches, not just her torso. -

It's not just the handling of the theme, it's the robbing Peter to pay Paul mentality for design budgets. They threw money at Hidden Side and it went nowhere. Same with Vidiyeo. I think they've got enough scope to allow new moulds and leg/arm printing across the brand, and do things like make smaller sets for themes. Monkie Kid is full of large sets and a few mediums scattered throughout. Dreamzzz looks like it's going to be a similar tale. This whole, "oh but IPs cost money and that comes out of the budget" is inane because it's one company that acquires the various licences, not a series of franchises. The business model is what they make of it, and they are restricting themselves. Star Wars is an unstoppable force (excuse the pun), and rather than churning out mechs with new/exclusive minifigures, spread that love elsewhere. It smacks of having a massive budget and needing to spend it all before year end, like local government services. That little bit of mech budget could have to prints on those Batcave figures. -

I’m not buying this set as it’s too much money and an aspect of Batman I’m not overly into, but I think it’s ridiculous that the figures for this set don’t get leg printing but Boba Fett gets a new fully printed figure in a mech set. -

Lego Batman: I only work in black, and sometimes very, very dark grey. Lego set designers: Hold that thought. So they’ve taken the concept of the Hogwarts book sets and massively expanded it but decided against dipping into the colour palette. I’m still not really convinced. Hopefully better photos will shed more light, because the set sure as hell won’t. -

I was being facetious, sorry. Hard to say exactly, but at the top you've got the current DC logo and the D2C Batwing. Below that and behind the text there's two lines of boxes, neither of which are distinguishable because of the big confidential label. -

I feel that this is an unfair inclusion as it was released in the midsts of the pandemic and months before the film came out. Neither -

I'm sorry what? It's allegedly been cancelled because the instructions advertise the Flash version of the Batmobile set? If that's true then that's even more ridiculous than the Temple of Doom set, because it means that no one involved in the creation of both sets thought to adjust the instructions. Reconfiguring the Batmobile wouldn't have been a five minute job, and as the two sets seem to have been produced concurrently the cave team should have been aware of the issue. It also suggests that the instructions aren't inspected, or if they are it's not until they are being put in the box. If it's not true then it's a really dumb rumour. -

I don’t see this being exclusive to this polybag. The original is found in two albeit premium sets, and if you want to buy it through Bricklink then the cheapest right now is £11.93/€13.45/$15.08. That is vastly more than the value of a polybag with an exclusive part variant in. If I’m wrong I’m wrong, but I don’t see it happening. -

It’s logically going to be the same as the upcoming sets, which definitely makes it a cheaper option. -

It's Returns based, to tie in with the cave. -
And there’s a car - Carlita I believe.

Has that got anything to do with these being 4+ sets and this being an AfoL site? I’m not the target audience, my daughter is though and she was blown away by the sight of them. It makes me laugh when I see people in other parts of the forum being incredibly bitter and quite rude about these sets, forgetting that they are aimed at their younger selves and hopefully future AfoLs. For what it’s worth the sets are a pretty good interpretation of the source material.

I thought Batman looked a bit weird but then I saw Wolverine and well … -
You’ve heard correctly, you register with an app and add in the set you have to make the instructions appear, it also gives you a layout of all sets. Registering also activates your Mario so you can have a scoreboard of every time you play, and a record of your time round the course. Characters and areas have stickers that scan in to register you stamping on them, and Mario makes the appropriate noise as well. Additionally the Mario can recognise the colour of the base he’s on. It’s a pretty good blend of digital and physical play.

Checkbricks.de is a fan site, what kind of accuracy record do they have? They say that they’re on the internet every day, but that doesn’t mean their information is always up to date or correct. -

I did, but my response was specifically to the part where you said that there was some overreaction to the mechanism. My point is that I'm not overreacting to the idea of this because I'm not a fan of the Burton films. I can happily acknowledge that they were the catalyst for the DCAU and the source of what many consider the definitive Batmobile, but the cave is very dark and isn't exciting, and Jack Nicholson's Joker is just wrong. Regarding the rest of your post and the character selection, there isn't the broadest scope for them. I don't get the thinking behind this set, and the folding concept isn't going to make me want it. The only thing that will sway me is if Lego have taken a huge amount of artistic licence and made the cave exciting. -

No, I’m absolutely confident that I would prefer a comic based Batcave that had a good trophy room, a Batsuit display with Batfamily suits as well, computer with crime lab, workshop with something like the rotisserie from TLBM, a river and waterfall, no little jail, and some new Batfamily members. I would absolutely prefer it over a box that encloses the Keaton cave, especially given the price and the known figure count. -

@Legocentrico I think you're focusing on the box too much. I don't think it has a purpose other than to enclose the cave. If the gimmick is the bat symbol shaped hole then whatever that hole is in shouldn't be too convoluted. Who knows, perhaps the box is decorated in some way to explain the form. I'm not worried about the box, it's the overall concept that doesn't excite me. I missed out on the 1966 Batcave and frankly I'd rather have that then whatever this is going to be. -

It’s a box shaped build. The bat symbol is a window you look through when the box is shut. -

So the Batman/Ironman comparison becomes realised in Lego form. Ironman got a frustrating Hulkbuster release, and now Batman gets a Batcave that elicits more confusion than elation. I don't get the idea behind this set. Maybe seeing it will change my mind. -

Intriguing that most of the toys are centred around Batman. Yes he's money and yes he has all of those wonderful toys, but it's not his name on the posters. It's almost like, despite being the lead and variants of the lead, that Miller's name is a teensy bit tainted these days.
