Marvel Superheroes 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
RedHoodPug replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
Meh, I'm not dogpiling, I suspect that the original comment was made somewhat in jest, as was mine. Half of this thread is way off topic. Also the imperial system doesn't actively promote monarchy, of course it doesn't. That's absurd. The irony is that the last bastion (apologies to Myanmar and Liberia here) of using it is a country that has a national day celebrating its rejection of actual imperialism. Like I said, made in jest. -

Firstly most of the world uses decimal units of measure, and secondly they are far more accurate than imperial. Surely the real question is why, of all the countries of the world, would America be holding fast on a system called imperial? -
No worries man. My hopes for Saturn Girl, Gleek and Samurai in the DC theme have got cobwebs on them. Sure, there's other characters in that theme and other characters in other themes missing, but you know what I mean. It's like someone at Lego who works in character development has ADHD.

I don't think that this and Indy are really comparable. It's not like Gabby is taking shelf space from him with these 4+ sets. And hey, I won't be surprised if this is a one time deal, but it's gaining momentum online and is a pretty popular show. Plus, I'm the one who'll have an upset daughter who has an incomplete set of weird cats, so I reckon I can stake a claim to the being miffed.

For those interested the house has a few recoloured and newer pieces and I'm pretty sure that the lift/Cat-a-Vator parts are new. The instructions are infuriating though. I appreciate that they are 4+, but for my 6 year old daughter they were kind of vague and too drawn out. Each section of the house has its own booklet, so there are nine of them (six rooms, two roof sections and the lift), and they are housed in a cardboard sleeve. The instructions show you what parts you need on one page and then spin out their placement over another three sides. To counteract this excessive use of paper the parts are in the regular plastic bags. There are no stickers, they're all printed parts (and there's a few of them). The completed set can go back in the box for tidying/keeping the loose accessories safe purposes. There are four characters in the set, and seeing as there's only one other new one in one of the other sets, I'm guessing that they are holding back for a potential second wave to complete the set. Or Lego could pull a Lego and leave them without the rest.

That series was simultaneously glorious and tragic. The potential for more like it is diminished, waiting in hope for Gunn's project to work. -

Dang it. Using the glider that has the Grinch’s face on the front as a reference, I’ll go with tiny horn piece in white. -

When there's the possibility that we were never going to get Kang in the first place, and we'll never find out the reason why he was switched if he was coming, I don't see the point in arguing a truth we'll never know. It's the Temple of Doom set all over again. -

You. Putting people into groups with weird labels and telling them that certain films aren’t meant for them, or heavily suggesting that any negative press has come from the wrong people watching them. You can’t toe that line then immediately follow it up by saying that you want more people to watch more films without coming across as a massive hypocrite. So what, you want people to watch the films but not vocalise their opinions on them? -

Pretty much where I’m at. T’challa being introduced meant we would be introduced to Wakanda and all that brings to the table, and it was at an appropriate point of the overall story. It brought us Vibranium, a stronghold for Infinity War, healed Bucky spiritually, and strengthened the roster. Killmonger was a fine adversary (even if he killed Klaw in a blink of an eye). It was a world building film that moved the arc forward. I get the feeling that Captain Marvel was brought in because they had this big moment with Tony doomed in space and needed an escape. The film gave us some backstory, introduced the Skrulls, and showed us how Nick Fury lost his eye. When it came to Endgame Marvel made a big save, had a bit of back and forth with Thor, and was there at the compound battle. Great storytelling meant that the OG heroes would be the ones to take Thanos down, but she would have been more than capable of being a part of that. Given what we had seen her be capable of in IW and her own film, her presence here was a massive letdown, supporting my theory that she was brought in for plot convenience, not to help stop Thanos. In my opinion I don’t think she was handled well. It being high grossing doesn’t make it good. Someone falling asleep doesn’t mean they aren’t target audience. If it’s part of the story then fans of the story are the target. I can guarantee without having to communicate with anyone that the reason he fell asleep wasn’t because Captain Marvel is a woman. I can also guarantee that there are films out there where members of the target audience have fallen asleep on viewing. That sort of projection does nothing to help further the discussion, as you’re a couple of steps away from telling him he shouldn’t have seen it because it wasn’t for him. You don’t need to gatekeep properties on the behalf of others. -

That article is about BP2, @Mandalorianknight was referring to the first film which was a good film that made bank. Someone gave it below 5/5 because he's allowed to feel that way, but it doesn't make it any less popular. And a slew of articles? Most of them were the same copy and paste clickbait guff. As a white man I can comfortably say that the first one was brilliant bar a few issues with CGI, but that's par for the course with that technology. The second one was good but I just didn't feel it in the same way I did the first. With Captain Marvel I enjoyed the 90s references and the Flerken, I just wasn't really sold in her as the next big character. Then her role in Endgame was almost pointless, almost as if introducing a powerful character who could turn the tide of the battle so late on was a risk. She was due to get a standalone sequel but it soon got changed to the one we will be seeing soon. Not all of us white men are racist or misogynistic, some of us just have nuanced takes on film tastes. The other consideration is that superhero fatigue is real. -

Nah, not you. I mean no one has to defend it, I just don't think that box office is a good measure of a film's quality. -

Most MCU films are not deserving of an A. I'm not pushing a narrative, merely showing that a film can achieve a positive at the same time as achieving a negative. I genuinely couldn't care less about Avatar 2, having watched the first and not been excited by any part of it. -

Its almost like lots of people bought a ticket to see it because they were introduced to the character in Infinity War, and found out that they didn't like it. It might be top ten grossing, but it's bottom tier ratings wise. -

Really high. Everyone shrugging off the rumour of reused parts for Moon Knight and Beast being wrong but being outraged at the loss of Kang is like watching a virtual facepalm. In fact I'm pretty sure recently that one leaker's description included a recoloured Ant-Man helmet and no one blinked. Rights of ownership. They've only recently been brought back in to the MCU fold. Prior to that it was all a bit messy. -

Even in context, using the word 'success' seems wrong when talking about The Flash. -

@wesker I couldn’t disagree more about the direction of the theme. Handled properly it could have seen a huge cast of characters, locations and vehicles. They got stuck in a rut with regards to Batsuits and choice of villains, and it could have been managed far better. Padding out the Bat family and villains, the Justice League, Legion of Doom, Suicide Squad, Rogues, the Titans, all with such potential. If we get previously unreleased characters in B:TAS form there’s a possibility they could look out of place with the existing characters. Don’t get me wrong, I’d like to see more, but this weird retrospective that they are going with isn’t doing much for me. You can stick with old comics characters and themes, but update them much like we see on the page. -

Wow. So you refuse to accept that films can get cancelled post production despite your degree, demand an example which you then ignore when presented with them, comment about me to someone else who was talking to me then claim that you didn’t, use mild cuss words in your response to me, and I’m the one ranting? Apologies for going off topic, mods. -

Been a fan of cinema since I could concentrate long enough to watch a whole film thank you, so some 35 years. I’ve been interested in how they’re made more than the stories themselves so I’ve sought out paraphernalia relating to filmmaking for almost as long. One of my oldest (to me) possessions is a book on movie monsters, almost as important to me as the comic book that first introduced me to Gentleman Ghost, Spectre #11 from 1987, and my copy of Lego Pirate Comic that I got on a holiday in Cornwall in 1989. I certainly didn’t spawn into this because of the aforementioned cancelled Batgirl film. It’s a shame that you can address someone else about me instead of me directly, especially after I accepted a challenge that you laid down. -

Of course there is. It doesn't matter how great the chance is, it still exists. Most of the time it doesn't happen but the possibility is still there. Having a film degree doesn't give you inside information about how probability works, clearly. Or a history of how, why and when films get cancelled. Really? There are lists of films cancelled in various stages of production available online. For larks here are three from across cinema history and for different reasons, all cancelled in post production. A Woman of the Sea, 1926. Charlie Chaplin destroyed all known copies of the film in front of witnesses, for the purposes of a tax write-off. The Day the Clown Cried, 1972. Finished but never released for several reasons. Only finished filming because Jerry Lewis paid $2 million of his own money. Might see the light of day next year. Hippie Hippie Shake, 2007. Adapted biography of the editor of OZ magazine Richard Neville, ceased due to the resignation of the director during post production. I'll not deny that Batgirl is the most expensive cancelled film on record, but this notion that there's no chance of any film getting cancelled is beyond ridiculous. Oh, and I'm not on Twitter. Please point to where I said that it happens most of the time. And to the bit I made up. -

But he hasn’t said that it is going to be cancelled, but that there is a chance that it will be. Big difference. And there is, because there’s a chance that every film gets cancelled, and sometimes it won’t matter what the budget is. They get cancelled at almost any stage for myriad reasons. There was a chance of The Flash being cancelled last year. If you understood how the filmmaking business works you would know that. -

Batgirl had no controversy surrounding it prior to it getting canned. If anything there was anticipation for Brendan Fraser as a villain. Aquaman 2 has the stigma of being the last ditch for the Snyderverse, the poison chalice that is Amber Heard, and a significant mention in the Flash trailer that potentially cements it's doom. I've got higher hopes for Blue Beetle.
