So, once again: I am talking about the image explaining the two steering modes. There are three columns of renders. I am talking about the middle column. This middle column consists of three small images: The upper one (1) shows the steering mode which turns both axles in different direktionn (for smaller turing circle). The second one (2) shows how the red 2L axle connector is turned. The one at the bottom (3) shows the crab steering mode. I am talking about the parts directly left from the 3x3 biscuit part: red bush on some kind if axle; two thin 1x3 liftarms. You indicated these parts with a straight white arrow in (1) and (3), respectively. In (1) and (2) they are arranged in the same way; in (3) they seem to have changed their places.

Wow, I'm deeply impressed not only by shrinking but also by enhancing (two more functions, and simply by reasons of symmetry, hahaha :-) ) the original 42082. What is the certain new piece which was crucious for the crab steering? By the way, in the picture explaining the two steering modes there seem to be two different versions mashed up. Just look at the position of the gear selector (red 2 L axle connector) and the two thin 1x3 (or 3x3?) liftarms in its vicinity...

I really like the used of system part on the boom's first and second section, as well es the way you made the angle. Especially the pump/switch section looks very compact and sturdy, though I intuitively prefer the switches to control the boom and the bucket by moving back and forth instead of moving sideways. Can't wait to see the extension with double function instead of the bucket! Do I see it correctly - the upper structure can be turned simply manually, without a knob, HOG or something similar?

I like it, too. Good balance between comic-style and technical appearance... the tractor-tyres seem to be a little bit to much - but this might be on purpose (and not easy to choose, given TLG's tyre collection in this wheel size). What's the colour of the "old one" on the left side? Looks like magenta or pink, but the parts are not available in these colours... https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=87080#T=C

MOC Valmet 832 Forwarder
Timewhatistime replied to MikoL's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The links don't work. -
Maybe yet another description will be helpful: Knob 1 controls axle 1. Knob 2 controls axle 5. And the long black beam connects alle the axles (1, 2, 3, 4, 5), so that the axles 2, 3, 4 will align just in the "right" angle in the different sterring modes. E.g., Crab steering is achieved by steering axle 1 and axle 5 (by knob and and knob 2, respectively) in the same direction - and thanks to the connection by the long black beam, axle 2, 3, 4 will steer in the same direction with the very same angle.

I didn't dare to say that, but as it's said now, I'd like to consent. We all know the struggles and challenges when building with Lego Technic (especially in this small scale given the available Linear Actuators) (and we all love them!!!)... but dumping with an angle of 9 degress is a little bit low. Maybe some round pieces will roll down, but most of the load won't even move at this angle. This is even worse as Ngoc's MOC is really well engineered and looks great and has a lot of nice features apart from the dumping issue.

Besides some sets that have personal relevance for me (childhood, return after dark ages etc.), I'd like to nominate the 8069 (wheel loader with backhoe) because of the density of functions in this mid-priced set. The building process ist interesting, the playability is great, everywhere you can turn a crank or a gear for plenty of functions.

We see two of the new type grey knob gears (with 45° offset) in the image. I believe we all appreciate that TLG provides us with this attractive part... ...but is it really necessary in this set? I don't believe so, because the axle is driven by two of the 20 teeth double bevel gears, so the axle's orientation is pretty irrelevant.

45° Stepper Mechanism.
Timewhatistime replied to Anto's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Both ideas are great (even if the knob gear stepper is not built yet)! We all should think more about alternatives. In most cases, there are quite a few ways to reach the goal and to decrease the dependancy on rare/new/special parts. -
I really like this creative MOC of an extraordinary machine! After reading your descriptions and watching the video I still have some questions: - What's the purpose of the gearbox? Are there different driving speeds? (Like in official 42114 (???)) - What happens after the ejection, i.e. when the linear actuator's full extension? I assume the linear actuator will stall - and because it's connected to the propulsion, the whole vehicle will stop, wouldn't it? Edit: Oh, I just checked rebrickable: The ejector moves forward and backward. How did you manage to achieve this periodic movement?

As far as I am concerned, the community receives your MOC very enthusiastically!!! I bought 42037 back im 2015, built it, and was pretty disappointed about the b-model. Then I gave it another shot in 2023... same situation! So with your 42037 c-model I am finally reconciled with this mediocre set - and I really am looking forward to see your d-model and your e-model... and maybe your f-model... 🙂 ... and I really appreciate your systematic approach with your analysis of the parts (axles, gears, panels...) before starting to invent an alternate model. These are the steps which have to precede a successful MOC with limited parts. Very instructive! I like it a lot, and I learned a lot. Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts and scrutiny!

42128 Roll-off Truck
Timewhatistime replied to M_longer's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
There seem to be rather twice as much functions as in the a-model - but without any doubt, this alternative model has got an impressive amount of functions. My favourite part is how the axle for driving the winch at the very end of the tipping bed is routed all the way down by using two universal joints (reminds me a bit of 42078, where this rare arragement is used as well) - and surely some more gears which are invisible deep down in the chassis. Very nice! -
42164 Off-Road Buggy
Timewhatistime replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I just built a version of this buggy - thanks to R0Sch's building instructions, which helped a lot. However, we have to realize that TLG did not leave much space for the driver's head. Right above the seats the cage is located, so that it looks a bit odd when one imagines how a figure could be placed in thos vehicle. So I am working on a version with a little bit more space in the driver's cabin.
