  1. But then again; Denying any of the controversy that appears around this UCS-set, which is face-front served to you just about everywhere you look, would be a strange reaction from a company with their status. Not that i expect any statement from their side. Last time Lego hit controversy, was the Wall-E neck-joint-thingy. They pulled back the kit and that was just based on a poor assembly. In my eyes this case is a lot more serious. We are talking a UCS set with an enormous price tag which doesn't even fit in its own category. A frighteningly poor value-for-money case I guess the real interesting thing is to see how this will sell. Money talks :)
  2. This set is picking up far more controversy than i thought possible at first. Not only here, but in every single forum i've read… I think it is interesting But i think that my real interest in this by now, is how Lego would respond to these reactions. Even just hypothetically..
  3. ^Fine review by this fella' "Jangbricks".. Never heard of him! Since i've been spending days trashing about the UCS Hoth set, i almost forgot all about this one.. Im still not quite sure on how the debate flows in here.. Sometimes there seems to be some good general interest in talking about the cons/pros about sets, other times topics like this just floods with "when and where".. I have absolutely no recollection of the classic TV series. I am about half the age as the TV show itself. But to be honest, what i have seen so far has been too ugly to even consider collecting (if i was a collector) ! Yeah, its kinda sad of me to sit here and trash again, even about a TV series that i can't relate to. I am sure that this rocks the boat for many AFOL fans, who remembers the "good ol' days". And it will kinda rock the boat for many people who feel like jumping into the retro-wave and consider it their own as well.. Nothing bad about that! Hell, i was even a little bit convinced when i saw the joker mini fig in this set.. I almost fell into the big bucket. ALMOST! Now, i am not going to comment further on the play-set or model/display value in this box, because i am thinking that i kinda gave it away already. But just to be on the safe side: I think it is absolutely horrifying.. No no.. I am struck by the insane price-tag on this one. It puzzles me even more than the Battle of Hoth set, because this Classic TV Series bat cave will have no gain with the younger audience.. But they can never afford it anyway, so guess that solves the issue
  4. My main concern about this set, is not really the set itself, but what the set represents Lego is casually throwing licensed $200+ sets out like this, and people buy it.. It is so uncharming and uninspired. Its like the people who decide to make sequels and prequels, digging deeper in the mystique, trying to find an answer for everything. When is was a kid, in the 90's, i used to love the smaller sets and i found much more playtime in those. I always wanted the larger sets (which of course were NOWHERE near the $200 price mark back then) but i usually tended to find those sets dull and boring. Maybe i was a weird kid, thats fine My point is, that Lego following the footsteps of Disney and Lucas Arts by smashing out large sets all the time, trying to keep the momentum going and trying to satisfy their customers all over the line, just seems so vague to me. Especially when it ends up in catastrophic things like this set. Why in earths name do we need to get all the iconic scenes in one set? For all i care, lego could have made just one model in this set, that be the hangar or the wampa cave, i don't care. just as long as the standard is kept, the mystique and creativity is withheld. Rather do one thing great, than many things half as great. And that is what has been done here.. Everything you see in the box art, is what you get. There is nothing left to experience when built. Lego, this is actually against your "only the best is good enough" philosophy, is it not? Harsh words? Yes hopefully, but my only true concern is if Lego actually gets the message I worked at the Lego store for 3 rather disaster full days until i hurried up and resigned from it. I was so sad to experience the "hive mind" from behind the scenes. Absolutely no charm, all about sale. This is no longer about a terrible SW set
  5. Awful set. I am stunned by the lack of creativity in this model. The Ewok village was ugly in my opinion. I don't stand alone on that. But it had some "great" parts at least… But heres to Lego for making an heroic effort to compromise epic scenes from Star Wars, and transforming them into "UCS" Lego models. Vehicles work in this scale. And it catches both the AFOLS and the kids In this scenario i don't see any AFOLS buying this set out of good reason, other then collecting and if you care about minifigs. Brick-wise, this is a creative-suicide.. Given the situation right now, where i am sitting behind my computer complaining about a lego model i will never buy, i might as well just go out and fully say it: Lego, you are loosing your ground. Now, back to life…
  6. Hi everyone I figured that this topic might stir up some interest, due to the fact that many people in here have Flickr accounts, and in a desperate search for help or any kind of advice... so here goes: Last month i was logged out of my Flickr account by an accident that was generated by my computer. No harm really, or so i thought.. But it turned out to be a rather big issue. As the most of you know, Yahoo and Flickr are connected when creating an account. When i created my Yahoo account, i did so, to gain access to Flickr.. I have been auto-logged in to my Flickr account for a long period of time, but when i was logged of my Flickr i was notified by Yahoo that they had deleted my account due to INACTIVITY Oh god, so by inactivity they mean that i haven't used my Yahoo account for more than 12 months. That may be correct! But using my Flickr everyday for the last 12 months, doesn't count as being logged in to Yahoo (Which supposedly should be the same account) ? I guess it doesn't, because what followed up turned out to be one giant hassle, which I'm afraid isn't over just yet.. The first thing the Yahoo robots tell you to do, is to create a new account and reload all my pictures. Terrible thing to think about, and wouldn't solve the problem.. By reading other forums with people who have experienced the same problem, i learned that it is actually possible to resurrect your old account. And my Flickr still exists, i just can't gain access to it After several email to the customer service (which was hidden VERY well in the Yahoo-jungle) i finally learned that they were unable to understand my problem. It was like talking to a wall… The problem i am experiencing is not even addressed in their FAQ/help section.. And i am guessing that this might be a problem that several people have had, before me So, is there anything to do? Besides sitting here and waiting for a qualified answer from Yahoo, which might never happen. They stopped answering me last week, and i have sent them 3 new mails since then.. I hope that this might be the right place to seek some answers, and i hope that none of you have to experience the same issue.. Ever..! Kind Regards (Fingers crossed)
  7. Great review! I know i will have to get this set, or maybe even a couple. But only so for the parts. Because they look amazing. It makes me want to build just by looking at them. And that great large canopy!
  8. Thanks everyone! :) Yes the model overflows with colors, but this is what i aimed for. I tried to be as accurate to the nature surrounding the house, as possible. I did not have the intention to make a toned down architecture model, plus i was curious :) Unfortunately, like so many other models, this has to be seen in real life i guess. There are many details which hasn't been revealed in these pictures, and which are too hard to photograph!! I did not think of this while making the model ;) Happy building! -Mat
  9. Hi everyone! Just thought i'd share my latest Architecture build, in case anyone in here would find it interesting. It's a scale model on Richard Neutras Lovell Health House, a modernist piece from the late 20's, based in California. A house which was also featured in the movie L.A Confidential https://www.flickr.c...re/16775803645/ best wishes -Mat
  10. Haha! Here we go search the deepest depths of internet, torture our minds with the patience that we don't contain, and all we had to do was ask?! Anyway, this has to be the greatest tease from lego in ages. I love it
  11. Lets not forget the great JP set on Ideas, with a brick built rex..! That would be a great tribute to the old movie
  12. Hi eurobricks! Lately i've been working on the ranger spacecraft from the movie Interstellar. It's been quite interesting trying to come up with a version that would justify the fantastic design, and the fantastic movie. This is also quite often my own issue when building something based on movies, books, games etc. because many people have special relations to the subject at hand, and therefore it is not your own.. ;) But this being a rather new movie i just had to try.. I'm sure we will see many more fantastic renditions of this spacecraft in the near future! I worked up and down the ship at least 10 times, with various techniques being evaluated and put to test. I wanted it to be playable without sacrificing the design.. It was tough, and the most of you who was seen the movie, or knows about the design of this spacecraft also knows which challenges lay ahead when trying to build this ship in bricks.. I ended up using SNOT-building for the main part of the hull which allowed for a more accurate shape leading up to the "wing section". The hull is actually not as V-shaped as mine, but i choose this option so the black wing section would get the curve that i was looking for.. In the end the optical illusion kinda justifies it all.. :) Have a good one! -Mat https://www.flickr.c...re/15635592174/
  13. It's been done before, but i would like to add my contribution to the bunch :) I've let myself inspire by the books, and less by the movies/sets. So most of the scene in this piece is off my childhood picture.. Its made for a gift to a non Harry Potter fan.. Haha! Cheers, hope you like! https://www.flickr.c...re/15361183064/ -Mat
  14. Cheers you guys! I feel like making another one already, as i like the puzzle of the tiny house concept :) -Mat
  15. Hello dear Brickfriends! I would like to show you all my latest MoC "Norweigan Shack" Its inspired by many of the chunky architectural tiny-house things going on at the moment.. The "Live in a box" theme, which I'm quite fascinated by. Actually, i am planning to build one myself, out there in the real world, but for now, this sketch has to suffice! Other inspiration sources are the Juvet landscape hotel in Norway, and the Eames house. Check them out, if you haven't already. They are marvelous! :) I tried to work in all the little details, so it would actually be 100% livable by a minifig.. ;) Only thing missing is a toilet, but lets dig a hole, shall we? The river Gas and water "Solid wall" on 2 sides.. And the interior witch features Kitchen with Stove and oven, sink, coffee machine (very important!) fridge, bookcase, computer table, armchair and bed which folds under the floor for the day time.. :) I hope you like it! Check out my Flickr: https://www.flickr.c...re/15312451123/ Cheers, and brick on! -Matti
  16. Mk-II Nautic Fuel Drone The Mk-II Nautic Fuel Drone is the state of the art of the fuel drones from Krittevit Industries, working both as a hoovercraft and a sub. Being 100% energy efficient and with an improved heat-resistant exterior, the drone can travel deeper into the earths core, than any other drone has ever managed before. Beleiving that the planet core carries some of the last unknown energy sources yet to be unveiled. The Mk-II Nautic fuel drone is not designed for combat. If the Mk-II recieves uncatagorized signals, detects hostility or in any other way is engaged by unknown matter, the Mk-II takes advantage of its shock-wave system, paralyzing enemies. The shock-waves will not strain the ecosystem, making the Mk-II a 100% neutral drone. -Krittevit Induestries I made this as a tribute to my own childhood. Growing up in the 90’s, i loved the Aquazone themes. I especially remember my fascination of the blue/yellow colour schemes.. :) I was not quite sure where to stick this, but since this is a multi tool (spaceship/submarine) I wanted to throw it in here. Mods are free to move it, if they feel like it! https://www.flickr.com/photos/brickstospare/15684891169/ Greetings! -Mat
  17. This is fantastic! Great job :)
  18. Cheers! The roof made me happy too.. Its nice to se how some ideas in your head, works well in practical sense.. I'm sure we all can relate to that, somehow :) The yellow heads came by, as the last touch. I had my laughs.. over my own work, damn.. ;) -Mat
  19. … And it unveils the darkest and most terrifying secrets... Cheers brickfriends! :)
  20. Thanks for the kind words guys! Yes, its a weird universe, with no sense to it really.. I had no master plan with this one, it was a free build.. I'm a bit sorry that i didn't take some photographs of this one in my lightbox, now i had to take it apart for various reasons.. Oh well :)
  21. In 2014 i've bought all the modulars (yes i know..), built them up, and only kept a few of them on my night stand. Actually, the only one that REALLY blew my mind, was the PR. Rest was great, but as we all know, the interiors and the overall design of the modulars just keep on getting better. There were so much to the detailing and techniques involved in the PR, that the other modulars lack. This line of buildings is only really getting started now, in my honest opinion.. Judging by the Detective Agency, i think we are in for a treat. I myself like the colors, and the small bolt-on technique for the building, and of course the unikitty tailpieces. :)
  22. Dear brickfriends My latest MoC featuring a take on some forced perspective. A female hiker on a solo trip. Its a small and sturdy build, made as a gift.. :) https://www.flickr.com/photos/brickstospare/15795805935/ I hope you like it! -Mat
  23. Crazy month this one.. Can you relate? I know you can I spent unusual amount of real life cash on sets, and my vip points are stacking… Point to this? Ah yes, if you consider on buying some Lego, take these to consideration: The Tumbler. Just because.. If its not sold out, chance is you might get hold of a set that you actually have a hard time pulling apart just for the parts.. Lego pulled this one off in such a classy way! And its huge.. Metalbeards sea cow! My personal favorite of the year..! The design of this thing is unparalleled. Crazy theme... And a lot of great bricks here, if you have the guts. ;) Two very expensive and huge sets, but it gives you plenty of building time, and looks hell of a lot better on the night stand than any design classic for candlelights..! Plus it is fun to see your 25 year old friends fall out of adulthood and play with pirates again.. :)
  24. Here's an elderly fellow. His life spanned around this washing machine he once came by. He even built a house right next to it. He was a happy man. And a very clean man... Inspired by everyday life, and the Moomin stories.. ! I hope you like Do please swing by my Flickr. I'm rather new there, so i would appreciate it! : ) https://www.flickr.c...th/15454771227/
