  1. I must admit when reading that these might be our last waves of Hobbit and LOTR, i wasn't surprised.. I have had the same amount of joy over this line as everyone else, acquired a few of the best sets, and been following the new releases with a little grin on my face very time.. Not because the sets were terrible, but because i think that you could sense where TLG had to go with these sets, contrary to what they might have expected. These are all just wild guesses, but when i had my younger brothers, who are in the target group, talking about the LOTR and Hobbit lines they weren't really that amazed about it as i was, which was ironic since i am the adult.. Simply because they don't recall the LOTR movies as part of their childhood. They are too young.. TLG made some LOTR sets, and i think this was a bold and cool move. Which turned into some great sets. But it was mostly grey bricks all over. In my humble opinion i think they gave us the best out of the line that was possible this time around.. And we got our minifigs The Hobbit as a motion picture has disappointed me a lot, and my thoughts go out to TLG as this must be a struggle when it has been stretched over 3 movies.. It has already been discussed, and i won't go deeper into the sets ;) I bought Bag End, and might get the WKB.. And thinking of the iconic pieces in both LOTR and Hobbit stories, it just has to be a struggle trying to make these into affordable and playable sets. Organic forms like Balrogs, Mumaks and huge building like Minas Tirith.. I would rather let the AFOL community handle these.. ;) I would love a Cirith Ungol in all white trans bricks though….. ;)
  2. Been following this with excitement! Hats off for the project, and the result is amazing! Good job Kind regards
  3. Cheers folks! The hardest part about the bass-drum was the attached hardware (legs, mount for tom) but for me it was important to bring these feats to the model. And have it attached to the plate of course! Every part is attached, so it can be moved around :) This is an exact copy of my own set in real life, which has hardware mounts on the bass drum. The thing about the toms, cause of the same 2x2 round brick used on every tom, was to make them stand out in depth, so they give a optical illusion of being different in sizing.. It works quite well in my opinion, and actually looks very cool in real life, as it stands here on my desk :) I tried out many different round sizes before i finalized the model, but it just got too big, and looked silly. I might revisit it some day! I am also looking in to making a larger set with double bass drums and loads of cymbals. We need more chrome gold dishes in different sizes!! -Mat
  4. A small interpretation of Stephen King scene, which personally had me sleepless as a kid.. Guess which one.. Luckily it does not look as freaky in brick-version! Hope you like! Check out my, currently tiny collection, on Flickr as well! https://www.flickr.c.../123503665@N07/
  5. Greetings fellow brick-enthusiasts! I've been lurking around this forum for ages, really just sucking up all the fantastic creations, images and letting myself inspire! I've actually never posted my own topic, so it's about time. This tiny project was first and foremost about creating a lego drum kit. The challenge i faced was obviously the size and shape.. I am a drummer myself, so making a balanced drum kit with focus on the detail that drummers around would recognize, was important! But, the tough times occur when you only have so much variety in the bricks as far as round shapes go. I went with the same round 2x2 brick type for both bass-drum, snare, tom and floor-tom. This little piece ended up becoming a self-portrait of myself! Oh, and i hope this is the right place to post this! Hope you enjoy!
  6. I just bought my first set of lego in years.. YEARS! The temptation of the Hobbit and LOTR sets are just to damn hard too resist. I clearly remember sending lego a handwritten piece of paper in the mail, asking them to sign up a license deal with LOTR. Guess they thought it was pretty cute, and they sent me some small merchandise figs and replied that a license like that would take too long to develop, and probably wouldn't sell.. Lego were always kind to reply though 10 years later as a "grown up" you get confronted with the dilemma of either spending your money on groceries, or a huge Lego The Hobbit set. Well i chose the lego set, An unexpected gathering, and had just as fun building it as i had when i built Legos as a kid.. The detailing is marvelous and the minifigs are beautiful! This whole thing tickles my Lego-nerve, and makes me want to build the whole damn story. The Tolkien universe is so huge and interesting. And as an excuse for the girlfriend, the Hobbit house looks pretty darn good in the right settings. Actually like a modern art decoration. She will change her mind when i get the rest of the sets ;)
