PRESS RELEASE for LEGO 75222 - Betrayal at Cloud City Announcement
Matti replied to WhiteFang's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Ugh, this one pops negatively in my eyes. The old cloud city had a charm in the vignette-kinda-way although it had nothing to do with shape and structure of the cloud city seen from the outside. I was afraid lego would go this way now, and even though i always appreciate attempts, i think this just doesn't work the way it should. Box Art is ugly, looks almost like a prototype. As a display piece, it fails. I guess its mostly the shape that bugs me. They could have made a two-story vignette setup and i would have liked it better i think. Also to add some more elevation and depth. Could have been like a half cut death star I do love all the small stories crammed in there though, and there is a ton of play value in this. And the micro scaled vehicles are absolutely fantastic. -
I personally love the micro scale way they are going. Its the only real sensible way to capture most of the iconic scenes and structures. I think its a brave and wise choice from the lego designers to choose to make a hogwarts castle in this scale, and try to avoid the lack of depth and massiveness in the previous models. It adds more to the display value i think. Price is surely still up there, and i most likely won't get it anyway, since i have absolutely no need for more tan bricks.. Could have done without the micro figs to stay more in proper scale illusion, but that wouldn't seem likely to happen, and i guess the micro figs are kinda adorable in their own way

Who is the designer behind this model? Jamie Berard? :) It's got some interesting techniques. I'm just impressed that they pulled off a roller coaster! Wouldn't have been possible without the new tracks of course, but still. The frame work itself is actually the most interesting part here

And don't forget that the LOTR waves, which were about 10 years too late, was also coupled with the release of the 3 awful Hobbit movies...

Definitely a clean solution to the stand. Though i must admit that something about the pose annoys my eyes a bit. i think it's a tad aggressive Saves a lot of space though :)

Soon mate! :) My vanity doesnt allow me to post quick pictures in bad lighting, haha! I have a small studio setup, so i will see to it eventually. Also with a few WIP images, although i really must get better at documenting the process!

This model is built of 90% reused parts that i owned already ( i wanted to make it of 100% reused parts but is was impossible since i didn't own enough tile-parts, unfortunately) After a couple of months of work on this, as a side project, i've come closer to the final result. I had pretty high ambitions with this project, and wanted to go all-custom, but i slowly turned my focus to more "original" builds. And spaceships have never been my strong side anyways, sooo.. This one will most likely turn into a gift for someone, as a tradeoff for desk-space, since i can't find the space for it. I recycled the frame structure from the 2007 version, which is basically identical to the 2017. I wanted the vessel the be in a flying position and get rid of those clunky feet. That was my main goal, and what an awful hard task that was/is. I don't even think that I've cracked it 100% yet, so i gotta get back to it later. i also recycled the cockpit area from the new model, since it's almost perfect in my opinion. Lego did an incredible job here. I will brick build the glass area, since the new Cone mold with print costs around 80€.. I had planned on building out the cockpit with the smaller cone piece (8 studs wide) but the size just look "off".. I became a bit lazy in my creative planning for this model, and i ended up using a lot more from the official model then i wanted to. I am working my way backwards now, and touching up some of the parts which doesn't work for me. I will redo the whole top plate and engine area, since i have a very strong dislike for the clunky 7x12 wedge plate piece (and the official model uses ALOT of those!) i've seen some incredible renditions of the MF with MOC'ers using the old 8x4 wedge plate. Unfortunately i did not own more than a couple of those, and they are very expensive. I came across my huge selection of 12x3 wedge plates though, and they are a perfect piece for this model! Halfway through the model i noticed that i was running out of wedge plates. And since i wanted to avoid doing too much bricklinking I paid a visit to my parents house, went down in their basement and found my Star Wars collection from 1998-2008. 20 years of pieces did the trick! I had everything i needed, and even more. Old special prints and tiles. I was a happy man, and a bit relieved since i saved some money right there! Plus i really like that my old models get recycled for the greater good. Thats what lego is all about anyway, and it adds a bit of history and flair to this MF! At this point i have no idea why i am actually building this model. I don't even like huge spaceship models that much, but i felt like i kinda wanted to join in on the fun! :) The last thing i will need to do on this model, is the back, more commonly known as the "blue engine". I like what many of you guys did here! So i might try to find some inspiration. like many other people in here, i have a dis-taste for the ribbed hose / pirate ship solution from the official set. But i think its a great solution for an official set though..! I also recently stumbled upon Marshal Bananas version, which as basically flawless. Might have to borrow some stuff from that one too.. I will take some more pictures once this is closer to being finished.. :) Here's to those who refuse spending 700 dollars on an official set, and decide to do it on their own! Oh, And one last thing; Lego, we need stud-less wedge plates (wedge tiles)!

Is that the Basilisk?… Hahaha Sorry, but the one from 2002 is way better. Still, the new one is brick built tho, so that gets a couple of ++

Great to see this theme back from the vaults! Definitely a timeless theme. Many of the things changed from the previous releases 10-15 years back in time are good, in my opinion. especially wands in the correct size! I remember when i was a kid, i used to cut the bars in half with a wire cutter, just to get a more correct size.. ;)

I've come to the conclusion that i will never own this box set. Its too expensive and too limited. Everything surrounding it is like a thick fog of mystery and despair.. Though i must admit, the design is intriguing and the new modifications done to this model is quite tasteful. Everyone loves the falcon. The design is great! I feel like the most desirable part about this set is constructing the base and interior. I've always loved turning the inside out on models! LEGO has officially released the instructions manual online, and with that in my hands, i have begun constructing the interior design and will slowly work my way outwards to the hull of the ship.. I have a huge amount of parts in my collection, bare that in mind. But i will like to make an example of how this falcon can be constructed without buying a box set using all spare parts from sets i´ve bought over the years. There are over 7000 parts, but most of these parts are generic lego pieces, a smaller percentage are special pieces and only a handful are unique to this set. I've been "bricklinking" the newest rounded tiles and some other pieces. Some special technique pieces are needed in a 40+ quantity which is tough. Right now i'm on a 40 euro budget and having acquired almost all the needed pieces foe the first round (which is about half of the ship). Lets see how it goes. You can all, of course, laugh at my attempt, should it fail… I will at the same time attempt to add some mods and new building techniques along the way, to make it even more the way i want it

My moneys on a 500 euro platform for the ucs falcon to land on. And maybe a new and updated Lando mini if we all behave nicely.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

So.. Whats the deal with the designer video - does it exist? -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Matti replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Interesting build But it lacks charm First of all i don't like how the whole theme and story is way too caricatured. An american styled diner is a little old to be honest… Pancakes and roller skating waitresses? its very un-stylish. The 10 other modulars have been pretty good at presenting simple themes in an interesting way. and I was so sad to se the old faces go.. I absolutely loved the old styled faces in the modulars. It really made sense! Facial expressions on a mini has nothing to do with imagination and how you build a story, and speaking strictly from an aesthetic point of view less is always better. The simple faces were a nice little gesture -

What is your source on this? The weakest modulars by far are the two (PC & TH) which were released during Jamies hiatus from the theme. But 10 years on a theme is a long time, so I'm not really surprised if Jamie has chosen to move on. Great scoop for the architecture line if thats the real case Lego has a ton of great designers, so i am not worried -
People are re-selling this set for triple the price, at least where i am from. Jeeeez i had a big laugh! I am absolutely horrified by this scenario, and i hope that no one ever even considers buying this set for that kind of money. It's a joke, really... It's a plastic toy that leaves no food for thought and follows up on, what has become, a horrible monetizing movie-franchise. And people just eat it up This has nothing to do with lego ….Pretty model though, but i liked the old one better

Hey guys! I've decided to try and build up my network again on flickr after a couple of years of absence. Unfortunately Yahoo decided to delete my account back then due to inactivity (which was absolutely NOT true but this was their argument nonetheless) and it kind of tossed me out of the community for a while, as i couldn't spare the time to build up a new profile Anyways… I've picked up the bone, and hopefully this will also help me get the inspiration i need to start building stuff again. I am a long life musician, artist and just recently started my studies in architecture in Copenhagen. So my Flickr will hopefully be filled with content from all these aspects of life, and hopefully i can make some inspiring stuff for the community. And of course, make some great lego models! :) So join in, i would really appreciate it! :) https://www.flickr.com/photos/mattiassonder/ Kind regards

This is indeed and interesting discussion I was a bit shocked when i read the news about the Lego-plunge. Though, after about 5 minutes of deeper thinking it made some kind of sense too me. i would like to put the "Market-value" glasses on the shelf in here for a bit, and focus on the more nostalgic value of Lego, and speculate a bit with you folks. These speculations might not have anything too do with the plunge, but i think they contributed.. First thing that stood clear too me was; Kill the Star Wars license This license will soon be 20 years old. It should never have gone this far. We are talking a big stretch of time here, where Lego has ridden the wave of success from an ongoing popular theme. And even though the 3 prequel movies in my eyes were a mess, the theme landed on a hungry market. But the expensive license, and Disney taking over hasn't helped them at all, and i was shocked to pieces when i saw the pricing on the new episode 7 sets back when they were released. I worked at the Lego store in Copenhagen at that time and had trouble finding the right excuses for the costumers so they could justify buying an ridiculously expensive Tie Fighter vehicle.. Seriously, it didn't sell that well.. I was concerned for the company when i quitted working at the store. It seemed like the inspirational toy was gone, and all you could get in the brand stores were double vip points, bonus gifts and expensive licensed toys. Lego is a material which you need to buy in order the build. But somehow the toy brand has always been keen on making it inspirational just to have 4 bricks, if you couldn't afford more. This is just a romantic wish now, but i think that Lego needs to rethink their marketing strategy radically, because this is giving them a serious slap in the face now, as it has been building up slowly.. Its just like all the other technology phenomenons in the world; smartphones, crazy apps. We are simple creatures, with simple needs. And a 7000+ piece millennium falcon never beats 4 red bricks in the creative process Back to the roots dear Lego

LEGO Ninjago 2017 Discussion
Matti replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I must say... Ninjago City looks most impressive. It's capable of bringing me along the Ninjago-Movie line. Its got that mix of styles similar to what they did with the Lego Movie then of course, another notable thing is the touch of new and clever building techniques, which pops up around the model, when you look close enough. The Piece count seems fair for such a large set. The model has depth and a lot of story telling, and god oh god, so MANY nerdy details. A great display piece, but even more a great PLAY piece! Last but not least - what a great (and obvious) idea to fit the modular into other building themes -
That depends on what you mean by "reissue".. One can only re-design a falcon in this scale so many times. The previous one was pretty much spot on design-wise. But the UCS falcon is from another era, back when interior designs were only just emerging(look at the modular buildings for instance) I have a hard time imagining lego designing a model at this scale today, without making an interior design.. Thats just my thoughts...
-
Millenium Falcon UCS rumors are seriously the most interesting rumor that has been going on for a while - all because of what could possibly be one one of the most anticipated UCS sets ever. Can we talk more about that please? Full interior this time would be fantastic - given the previous falcon being from a time where interior weren't a thing (café corner) i think the remake this time around makes so much sense, a lot more than say, the Death Star (Which unarguably is an ugly model, but with great play value) The only thing that could go wrong would be if Lego decided to do a smaller model for keeping the costs down.. Literally holding my breath.

As the great Mr. Mike Stoklasa said; "Its finally here, the beginning of the end of your life. A new day has dawned. One in which we get a new star wars film, or two, every year until we are all dead!"

The UCS Hype. What will 2017 bring? (40th Anniversary)
Matti replied to Major_Ton's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Being a natural skeptic among these topics, i still have to admit that the possibility of a Millennium Falcon (MF) Re-release seems to be quite plausible Not only did it come as surprise that the Death Star had a revival - but there is no doubt that the MF is the most popular UCS set, by demand, ever made. Regardless of the price tag. Lego confirming that the DS re-release has nothing to do with future re-releases of older popular models, just seems to stir the boat really.. Obviously they are cooking up something special for next year The UCS MF had a relative short lifespan back in the days No matter what the hypothetical price tag will be for this model, and we bet that it's going to be a monthly paycheck, it will be one of the only UCS sets that i would consider buying… Ever There wouldn't be any other UCS set that would have the same Banger-effect like a revived nostalgic as the Millennium Falcon. With a 10-year anniversary stamp on a premium box, gold and glitter all over. Buy, buy buy! Sure they can add a few more pieces to the set, but the old one was pretty damn well made..! -
4499,- dkkr for the new Death Star……? Bwahahahahaha! I feel like i've been complaining a lot recently, but TLC does certainly make it easy
