Valuation Needed

Thank you for your very prompt and helpful reply. -
Hi All I know this should be in the Buy, Sell, Trade forum but for some reason I'm not able to start a new topic in the forum. Any suggestions as to why this is would be gratefully received. I'm thinking about selling my Technic parts collection to raise money to buy a couple of 9398's, one for me & one for Jake but don't know how much to ask or the best way to go about it. I have all the parts from the bags marked 1 from the 8110 Uni Mog set. That's everything needed to build the whole Uni Mog chassis. Thing is I've not got just 1 lot of these 'lots' but 3, enough to build 3 whole Uni Mog chassis's. There are also hundreds of other parts including loads of connectors of various types, beams & plates. There's also 4 wheels (inc. tyres) from the 8446 4x4 and the 4 wheels (inc. tyres) from the 8063 Tractor. Also I have 2 XL Motors, 2 Medium Motors, 1 Pole Reverser, 2 PF Battery Boxes. Various pre PF motors, leads and a PF style battery box with pre PF 4 stud connector. Finally there's a complete 8446 4x4 with instructions but no box. I've no idea how much this lot's worth or whether it's better to sell in one lot or break it up into 3 (Uni Mog) lots and the other lots in 'groups'. Any help would be gratefully received.

I'm really sorry if this comes across wrong, it's meant in all sincerity, but I built this model by mouth and have experienced none of the reported problems. I built it incorporating the Lego supplied service pack parts & everything runs smoothly. It's used, under my supervision, every time Jake's here and 'never misses a beat'. He uses it for scooping up sand, gravel, Lego, rice you name it, he's tried moving it. He drives it across grass, compacted soil & carpets. No problems. I'm not questioning anyone's building ability, heaven forbid, I haven't the ability or experience to do that, I think that maybe there's a few 'rogue sets' out there.

[REVIEW] 9398 - Rock Crawler
grum64 replied to Blakbird's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
My Grandson, Jake has 'seen' your review (he knows the Eurobrick shortcut on my iPad and goes to & through this forum every chance he gets). He says to buy the set. 'It looks like fun!' Well, that's it then... How can I disappoint a 5yr old! -

Congratulations. As others have said, be prepared to be addicted. My advice (for what it's worth) is to seek out bargain priced, but complete, second hand sets & equally good priced parts to add to a 'parts bin' to enable you to build your own MOCs. For example, in the last 2 weeks I've bought a set of 4 wheels from the 8466 4x4 for £12, a complete 8466 4x4 with instructions for £15, a complete 8292 Cherry Picker with box/instructions for £20 and an 8109 Flat Bed Truck, again complete with instructions for £28. All prices include delivery. Proof if it were needed that bargains are out there if you spend time looking. Above all, enjoy every minute of your newly found addiction even the frustrating ones & believe me, there will be many but each & every one of them will teach you to be a better builder. This forum has some truly incredible builders (of which sadly, I'm not one) who know exactly what I mean. -
Good EveningThis is great. I've been making manual type wheelchairs for our Granson Jake to play with for a while & have been planning on making a MOC based on my outdoor wheelchair, a Meyra Optima 2. It'll be good to make a motorised MOC of as the 'chair has powered rear wheel steering. I've started tinkering on LDD to test a few ideas. We'll see how it goes. Grum64

Hi Sorry about not including a direct link. I'm using an iPad and wasn't sure how to. It's done now. grum64 -
Hello Everyone Hope all's well with everyone. I've just come across this free app in Apples App Store (Sadly for those with iPhones/iPods it's only available for iPads) Ray Tools: Gear Design. You can find it here: http://ipad.freeappalert.com/clk/498071757 Also, I've just found this: http://sariel.pl/tools/ratios/ If like me you struggle with gear ratios etc., these might help. grum64

Oh My God!!! This INCREDIBLE MOC speeks more than ANY words in ANY language could EVER say. Your design & building skills are beyond amazing. My MOC's now going back to the drawing board... For a very long time! My life mantra is 'every day's a day at school' and you Sir, are the Headmaster. Respect. Grum64 -

Good Evening (UK) Thank you for taking the time to read 'my story' and for your reply. It sounds as if you've been through it one way or another. I give you credit for your attitude, it's really good to hear that someone with a disability has some 'get up & go'. I know that many people with disabilities do some amazing things but they're in the minority. A good many who are capable of much more than they do, for a variety of reasons choose not to. That's a waste of life. The 'theraputic' qualities of Lego and in particular, Lego Technic never ceases of amaze me. As you've found, the concentration needed to build these sets is most of the time, considerable, letting you forget lifes woes. I think you'll soon be looking for a bigger place to live. Your Lego collection sounds vast, it'll soon be needing a place all it's own! If you haven't already, get yourself the 8110 UniMog. It's a difficult but really enjoyable build & an amazing thing to look at when finished. If not the UniMog (it is an expensive set) what's your next buy. Mines the Rock Crawler but it's not out until later in the year so I have time to save. Thank you again for taking the time to reply. I wish you all the very best life can give. Clive -

Hi DLuders Hope you're well. Thought you'd be interested I what you helped me achieve. You can find it under Project 'Mog. Apologies in advance for the pic links to my Picasa Album, I can't get the hang of uploading the pics so they show directly on Eurobricks. If there are any problems please llet me know. Thank You again. grum64

Project 'Mog
grum64 replied to grum64's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thank you. I'll try to get the pics sorted ASAP. I've got a couple on my iPad. I tried to include them but couldn't so I'll have to get some taken & try doing it from the laptop. Hi Thank you for your comments. I'm very pleased with it so far & have a few ideas, not all of which will be practical. We'll see. -
Hello Everyone Well, after much huffing, puffing & (mostly) suppressed expletives the first few stages of 'Project 'Mog' are complete. Squeezing in the XL motor for the drive was really frustrating, taking over 5 hours (for those who don't know me, I'm disabled & build by mouth? If you're interested, my story is in this forum under Disabled Technic Builders). And this was after releasing the lower rear shock mounts and prying the upper chassis beams apart to remove the 2 black pins and the grey axle they were holding. After a great deal of brute force and more than a little ignorance, I had the motor in & lined up with the drive axle & connector pin but try as I might I could not get it any further. The connector was caught on the 'lip' of the hole on the motor and no amount of pushing and shoving was going to get it in place. My darling wife had to give it that last shove. Now it's in it works well, keeping the 'Mog 4 wheel drive. After a bit of trial & error and suggestions by Eurobrick members (Thank you, you know who you are) I changed the gearing in the portal axles to 8 top and 24 bottom. Leaving the original setup of 16 top, 16 bottom made the 'Mog too fast to be 'realistic'. After fixing an XL motor with gear wheel attached between the front seats and a gear wheel to the HOG steering shaft & testing it I found the steering to rather quick but thought no more of it. At this point you're thinking that frightfully quick steering would have made me think that something might be a miss but for reasons that (conveniently!) escape me, I didn't notice. It wasn't until the early hours of the following morning it suddenly dawned on me. I had the gears on the wrong shafts! I've now got 12 tooth on the motor & 36 tooth on the HOG shaft. To help reduce the turning circle I've removed the 4 'stopper' half pins form the chassis. I've mounted the receiver on top of the 'engine'. I've relocated the battery box to the front of the load area. This is the change I'm most pleased with. It solves the 'Mogs slightly lopsided appearance caused by the battery boxes weight. I don't think it looks too bad. Now I was left with a very convenient empty space which was handy as I needed to include a pole reverser to operate the air pump independently of the drive and steering motors but couldn't fit it behind the left front wheel where others had. After fitting a base plate into the battery compartment the pole reverser fitted in nicely. The space also allowed me to hide the wires including the (too long but only) extension lead needed to extend the air pump motor lead. The 'grabber's' been changed to a digger as it adds to its playability for Jake And finally I've put a 'door' on both sides. This helps hide the air pump motor and on the other side, the pole reverser and jumble of connector wires. I'm not entirely happy with the 'doors'. As part of the next round of changes I'll change them for a better design. I think I'll use the design from my 8258 Crane Truck. I know the locations of the steering & drive motors maybe aren't where many of you would have placed them but they were the only way I could think of doing them without a great deal of dismantling, something I'd rather not attempt at the moment. I've not been making changes to sets for long. In fact I've only done one other and that was motorising the 8048 Buggy. That came out OK but like the changes I've made to 'Mog, aren't particularly elegant. Hopefully with experience I'll get better, practice makes perfect etc,. I'm hoping to try adding side tilting to the load area. I'm thinking of fitting an M motor into the battery compartment the other side of the pole reverser and a PF actuator fitted somewhere behind the pneumatic switch. We'll see, I've a feeling it's likely to be a case of easier said than done. Another thing I'd like to do is to lower the steering motor etc and fit the receiver above it so it sticks up slightly above the top of the cab. I'm hoping that if I can do this it'll improve the signal pick up from the controller. I'm also going to build trailer soon loosely based on the one on my 8063. This one will have power tipping though. I welcome your comments and would appreciate any constructive criticism. And lastly, some thank yous. As hard as this has been it has been made easier thanks to the help I received following my request for help in locating a tool to make joining beams easier for me. Eurobrick member robuko not only heeded my call but, and I still can't believe this, actually went to the trouble of designing and making one, a gesture for which I shall be forever grateful. It's made from Lego and works a treat. Thanks also to DLuder for taking the time to answer my 'call' with his suggestion. ]

Hi Yes he came up as Italy based the first time I encountered him. The listings I've found have had his location in various towns & cities across the UK, Sheffield, Bristol, Margate & Grimsby to name a few. It seems it's all to easy to set up these fraudulent accounts. Both eBay & PayPal are great companies. How many of us have used eBay to expand out collection and don't you feel safer buying online using PayPal rather than giving your card details. But are they vigilant enough? Surely they can put in place systems to detect multiple accounts set up & multiple feedback comments all from one ip address. End of Rant!

Hi Good to hear from you. I'm sorry I've not got back sooner, too busy playing detective. I can't give you a link as the seller & his 'items' have been taken down. Keep your eyes peeled and remember old adage, if it looks too good to be true, it usually is.

Hi I've just found that an eBay scam that I 'discovered' last summer has resurfaced. The scam involves high value Lego (Green Grocer, Carosel etc) & Lego Technic (8421 Mobile Crane, 7888 Batman The Tumbler etc) listed for stupidly low amounts, usually but not always £1. If you come across anything like this there are tell tale signs to look for. Firstly, check the Member Since, it's usually the present year. Secondly, check the Feedback. The it's always 100% but don't be fooled. When you check the Recent Feedback you'll notice that all the Feedcack has been left on the day or day before and all left by 'sellers' with 100% but crucially 0 'score' of their own. After I found this 'seller' I reported himto eBay and he was removed. Over the following 3 months I spent an hour or so most evenings/nights (I don't sleep ver well) actively scouring the listings for him and found him 12 times each with a new name. Each time I reported him and each time he was taken down. I've been looking for him every week or so ever since and up until now have found nothing but now he's back. There are many legitimate sellers on eBay but there are also far too many that are con artists so please beware.

I'm humbled by the generosity of your comments. Thank you for your kindness. I've nearly done what I want to the 'Mog. There's nothing special, not like some of the guys out there who build those amazing MOC's. Just simple things. I'll get a few pics taken & post them when I'm done.
