42108 - Mobile Crane
Banana92 replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I'm building this in Stud.io right now, can confirm the 4 outriggers are activated independently, the red towball pins being what lowers and raises the front two (meaning no gears on the front outriggers) -
You are right! I was going by memory, opening the other way would likely be easier to achieve though, I was going based on memory and my limited knowledge of newer Vettes, my mistake lol
-
Pics of my mods so far (messinging with the B-model for now) I smoothed out the front end and tried to highlight it's more recognizable shapes without adding too many pieces, I opted for the newer Corvetter Stingray style spoiler, as I like how it shapes the rear, though it's not accurate to the ZR1
-
I'm working on modding this as we speak, just finished up with a better looking rear spoiler rear end build last night and worked in an opening hood to boot! Worked out the wider and larger rear tires to fill the very gappy wheel arches. This does mean the rims are terribly small but the overall tire size is much more appealing so I'll except that for now Now to figure out the opening doors...

I love the 2001 style mocs, this reminds me of a challange I set for my self, to make different rahi with every possible comination of 2 bohrok va (like the hapaka being white and blue, or the red and green pokawi.. I'll eventually get around to creating a topic about it) think I got around 15 out of it! but I love your work!!

Technic 2017 Set Discussion
Banana92 replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The extreme adventure set went from being my least favorite in prerelease images to being my favorite of the new sets in actuality, purple is my favorite color and all the yellow that I was seeing was very off putting, the set itself though I like enough and seems a welcome change for a main model with some interesting functions and realism, I think it'd look wonderful if outfitted with large tires like the claas (if not too big) and leaving off the stickers, I think the colors are good but may decide to change the yellow to light gray or something, but it makes sence on that type of vehicle, the tow truck not only is something we have seen numerous times in the past (albeit with this one having nice functions) is just pretty goofy looking to me, and seems too toyish, distractedly so, it seems nice, but I would rather (and do) own the arocs over that set, with its better looks in my opinion, and the price point. I should point out as well, that the extreme explorer seems a good set to modify and a good chassis or base to build around, it looks appropriate to me for what it is meant to do, and I like the the treads raise off the ground in the front to assist climbing, too bad the same isn't true for reverse, it does include 5 new panels in purple, and with nice curves and shaping, I can just picture how it'd look without the rear "camper shell" area, cutting it off just below the rear stickered panel, giving it more of an everyday truck appearance. I appreciate it -

Lol so did I... except it drives in reverse I tried to make that buggy use all of the parts minus spares from the original model, I originally had a decent pile left and had to incorporate the left over parts, harder then I thought, but I like it then the truck honestly. -

Having 42059, I must say in person it doesn't look like it has as much of a forward rake as I was worried about, it's a decent set, though to me on it's own it doesn't have a lot of surprise, the medium azure is the redeeming quality, and I just rebuilt it into a buggy for now. -

It looks as though only the black liftarm is a 5L while the lime green ones are all 3x5 L shaped liftarms -

they could just rearrange the gear train to change the speed to torque ratio... if it had gears The 3x5 beam seems to also be connected to a fixed point via the blue pin the the middle creating a rigid triangle. -

Looking back at the BMW bike, a few things don't sit right with me :/ I may buy it and try to rework some things. -

The sprockets (wheels aligning the treads) seem to match the toothed wheels driving the treads, and those wheels are held in with light gray half-bushings so I believe they might be white, also the light gray would seem out of place on a white/lime model -

I think the 42066 jet will have an opening door behind the front landing gear for a vertical take off thruster, I noticed in the picture at the bottom right of the box (detailing it's height) it shows a door that opens, I thought this may be to store the wheels, however, the picture showing the wheel function does not have this door open, realism away! -

2017 has me so excited, I do think though that dark tan is better suited for that 5 axle with stop, it just doesn't pull your eye toward it like brown, and also with tan gears it seems more like it belongs then the reddish brown :/ -

I knew there was a new gear! I built a replica of it and there is a lot of backlash with existing parts, hope to see what the new gear is like! also I'm calling it now that 42062 handler portion will have the worm gear near the base of the boom to lift it, you can just barely make it out in the pictures. -

It seems the small helicopter could be fairly easily modified so that the rear wheels drive the propellers and engine. -

I have made a replica of the helicopter and I believe it moves the engine when the top AND rear rotor move, the version I built had a knob to turn the rotors on the side since they were connected to the same gear train, it's a fairly straight forward build and I'll try and post video soon Also I have built a replica of the telescopic handler from 42062, and am fairly certain it will introduce a new piece in the rear gear train, though I can't be certain, the cabin lifts to open, the boom raises and lowers, it has rear wheel steering, the boom arm length is adjustible via a lever and locks when fully extended, and the grabber opens, the vehicle actually reminds me of the mini mobile craine from way back, the one I built I believe has enough room for a fake engine in the front as well :) -

Banana92 replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I've been studying 42062 and it looks like a pretty clever set, the truck has steering as you would imagine, but the gear turned to activate it is at an angle, not difficult but something they didn't have to do, and it seems like that is a foot in the door of what this set will be, I figured out how the boom extends which is actually very simple, just flipping a lever the pneumatic bushings on the side of the lifting arm don't look as though they move, they just help to align the device, flipping a lever on the front of the grabber seems to open or close the front and rear pneumatic bushings, all this with rear wheel steering and an elevating boom make this my favorite set by far, a lot to do with the little guy! ... and I believe the truck has opening doors, and I love touches like that! Also the secondary model is actually pretty decent looking and something we haven't seen much of or at this scale, bravo, 10/10, good game. -

I actually built my own 42057 helicopter, I like it a lot and will probably get it if I find it for $10-12, I built my own in orange, and though it is neat it looks a little unfinished under the back panels and pseudo-engine, still not going to complain at the MSRP Also is 42059 the azure color of the latest dragster because it looks that way It also looks like the 42062 will have black 1x1 beams (basically bushings for pins) and it might be my favorite of the wave to be honest Lastly I believe the 42064 boat has a new piece on the helicopter (and possibly shared with 42062) holding the rotor on, it looks like it is similar to element 87082 but with axles instead of pins, this would be very welcome to me As a whole, something does seem different to me about this wave though, I can't exactly pin-point it but the design of the sets seem a bit different then I'm used to, maybe because summer 2016 was full of pretty big sets, and this wave is a little more focused on the small, but I couldn't say for sure, some items just seem a little unfinished to me, or rushed, not always a bad thing though :) I'm looking forward to 2017! -

I'm gonna go and say for 01 masks, ruru for sure, any of the 04-08 masks would have to be Onewa's great komau,, wish it had been in more colors, or that a wind screen fit it because dang, didn't like the voya masks, and from 09, vorox's helm was awesome but I'd have to say, Tarix's helm was my favorite :D
