  1. Is there a mis-alignment between the two GE's on the right? Or are you trying to fool us with fotoshop here as well.
  2. Uhh, you mean "New Amsterdam" founded by the Dutch, than later turned into "New York" by the Brittish? The Brits forgot to change the other names though: Harlem (Haarlem) Brooklyn (Breukelen) staten Islant (Staten Eiland) Breedweg (Broadway) Walstraat (Wallstreat). On a side note on New Amsterdam/York: YanKees stands for the Dutch names Jan and Kees ergo: The JanKees, now known as the Yankees. A nickname used by the Brittish to describe those pesky Dutch colonials in New Amsterdam.
  3. Ai, so considering the costs of the bricks, including shipping, that is about 200 Euro for the charity? Given the time, effort, and uniqueness of the model, 200 Euro is a bit of a disappointing figure. That is not even near enough to cover but a fraction of the labour costs that actually went into this. Maybe an internet auction would have yielded a higher selling price. Still a verry good effort though. Are you guys going to try this again int he future? Any comments on how you feel about the auction? Was there a selling price you hoped for, aimed at? Kind regards, Teddy
  4. Hi all, i was in the Lego Store Glendale three weeks ago and thought their PAB was not really interesting. Not so many usefull parts in there. The collection of specials and hard to find was also rather limited in my humble opinion; no Grand Emporium yet, no Ches sets. If Legoland is even worse I am in for a shock. Oh well, at least I know it in advance now. I went to a ToysRus in LA as well. They only had a few different sets inbetween the MegaBlocks. All in all, if Glendale is the best there is in LA, I think I will just stick to the internet for my supplies here. Kind regards, Teddy
  5. hmmm, I am too biased to rationally choose. But since one cannot argue over taste her I go: nr1. Cafe Corner: Got it from my girlfriend for my birthday after we moved in together. nr2. Market Street: I have a soft spot for Eric Brok. His website and MOCs got me back into the hobby: Lego on my mind (started way back in 1996!)What he did back then was revolutionary! He is missed in the community. nr3. Green Grocer: Best of the rest in my humble opinion. nr4. Fire Brigade: Uhh, table tennis, hello. How cool is that. nr5. Grand Emporium: Has an escalator to the skies.
  6. Jeey Svelte! Don't ever stop! Keep going! You can do it! Yes you can! Jeey, Svelte!! Woohoo! Yeah!
  7. This is a beautyfully crafted ship. I will be keeping an eye on this topic. Do you have any bow shots yet? Kind regards, Teddy
  8. Hi medieval_total_lego, I really like the interior part of this MOC. Well done! If I may suggest some improvements; you could consider some randomly placed light grey 1x1 and 1x2 tiles on light grey headight bricks for the exterior wall. To create more texture and create a masonry look. And maybe some of these bricks in light grey: Link to Bricklink page, for some texture as well. I can understand you do not want to use dark grey for detailing sice you have used it on the sides already. You could break the rithm in the dark grey 2x2 bricks by putting in a 2x2 dark grey tile on 2 darkgrey headlight bricks. You may consider using brown for the hand railing on top of the stairs for color variation. Hope this helps. Kind regards, Teddy
  9. Hi TheBrickster, this church is starting to look really good. I really like the updates you have done. My suggestion for improvements would be to give it a bit of a weathered look. so break up the tan and red roof a bit with other colors. So some reddish brown slopes in the roof and maybe some dark and light grey plates in the walls. you could also add some 1x1 and 1x2 tiles on either tan or grey headlight bricks to break up the wall and create some depth. For the landscaping you could consider some additional "dead" ((reddish)brown) bushes next to the church. Maybe some height difference with plates for the landscaping to create some dust accumilating. You could also consider giving the front some small white highlights at the windows and doors, like you did with the small windows on the sides. Thanks for sharing. Hope this is helpfull. Kind regards, Teddy
  10. Hi ARH et all, thanks for all the super kind and cool replies. Currently I am in the USA for a couple of months, so I'm a few thousand miles away from my Lego collection in the Netherlands. However, before I left I collected enough bricks for the exterior of the upper part of the ship. Such as: yellow-and-black tiles, yellow-and-black plates, white plates for the interior, red plates for the gunport interior, and tan tiles for the decks. During Christmas I finalized the drawings of the line plan for the upper part and finished some details such as the location of the gun ports. During Christmas I also completely redecorated my lego room (which took a lot of time) to make much more space for building. Next to that I rearranged and sorted my bricks in another way. The status of the ship is that the orlop deck is now nearly complete, and the work below the waterline is almost finished. When I'm back in the Netherlands I am planning to do some mayor building above te waterline. Since all the boundry conditions are met. I will focus especially on the exterior walls of the upper parts, to get the rounded shape of the tumblehome effect just righ. When those sides are done, I will build the interior decking in which I will install the guns and to which I will attach the exterior side walls. Kind regards, Teddy
  11. Hi Aliencat, like i said on Mocpages: Well, I really enjoyed all the photos just now. Great work on the enterior. Nice colorfull floors, and I really really like the fact that you tiled them. Have you considered white 2x2 tiles instead of the light grey 2x2 tiles for the floors? To contrast more with the sidewalks. I was wondering what is on the top floor and is there a staircase to get there? Thanks for sharing. Kind regards, Teddy
  12. Hi Admiral Croissant, What a great update! I really love all the little details you put on there already. I was wondering how the masts are looking in real life now that the rigging is on. The captain's cabin looks really cool with all the nice interior detailing. Have you considered using 1x1 black and white tiles for the floor? Kind regards, Teddy
  13. Thanks Svelte for the superb review! It's really great you put some of your humour into it. As to the tiny tiles issue... I love tiny tiles, and tiled floors... Personally, I put tiles everywere in my MOCs.
  14. Again great stuff! I really like the dark tan roof. I'm wondering, do you have all your pirate MOCs still build up? And will you put them in one shot all togheter? Kind regards, Teddy
  15. Great dock design. I'm not sure if I have ever seen an 18th century double decked dock before. Have you based it on a real life example? Do you have a photo. either way it looks amazing. Really great. As for your Tudor style houses: The grey, bley, dark and light at the bottom floor is good. My advice for the top floors would be to stick to earth-colors. Make your basic houses from brown, rown, dark orange, white, tan and in principle a black roof. You could contemplate a (b)rown roof for color variation, or something resembling a straw roof ((dark)tan, (sand)yellow greebling). A red roof is a bit tricky since standard red might be too bright. Braking it up with dark red and rown could be an option. Then again, you could consider making it entirerly dark red. I would advice you to drop the grey roof since most roofs in those days were build from lighter materials than stone. For some color variation you could consider: sand green, san red, san blue, so basically the sand colors. Some dark colors could work as well. My advice would be to try and avoid the brighter colors. At least if you are going for realism. Well just my two cents. Kind regards and good luck on your massive project, Teddy Edit: Dark tan works well as a straw roof: Linky to dark tan roof on tudor style house on EB
  16. Action packed little market. Great use of different colors. Verry cool little details in there. It looks very alive. Verry well done indeed. Kind regards, Teddy
  17. Hi ZCerberus, that is one great street scene! I really love the color scheme of the houses and the way they work togheter. Good call on the greebles of the down stairs stone part and the chimneys. Not over or under done. Nice bookshelfs and solid fireplace. Have yo uconsidered a staircase? I'm not too fond of the technic brick holes on the side. You might try to obscure them a bit. Overall a very beautyfull build, with a very novel color scheme, dark orange and white. Kind regards, Teddy
  18. Dear all, thanks for all the nice replies. the ships are on a permanent display. I have some glass cabinets, but the ships are too large for them. So there is a continuous battle with dust. You are right. (walks to HMS Victory: "you brick eating megablock grow... grow!") You're welcome. I dont buy every set myself, I found it helps me to get a better idea about a set when I can see it on the internet compared to what came before. This helps me decide which sets I will buy. Kind regards, Teddy
  19. I really love the interior of the bar area. And I really love that jukebox and foosball table. Really well done. Kind regards, Teddy
  20. Thanks sonicstarlight, that is a huge compliment. I never realised I might inspire people back to the hobby. I just try to give every MOC my best effort. Personally, I'm a huge fan of the town MOCs of Aliencat, Marocbessa and Kris Kelvin. I really like your CC interiors especially the bar area, jukebox and foosball table. Thanks again for the huge compliment, kind regards, Teddy
  21. The rendering and the design is really great! And the color scheme is verry original, just using basic yellow green and white for the structure. I like this a lot. Kind regards, Teddy
  22. This is a super cool gift! What an original idea.
  23. Hi Zorbas, I took some new shots with better lighting and used one of them for the main shot. Hope these colors are better. Kind regards, Teddy
  24. Thanks Zorbas, I spend a lot of time on the details this time. So I'm glad you like it. I was in doubt about Mr. Whiskers furniture. But to keep some kind of a story line going I decided to keep some of it in tact. Kind regards, Johan Thanks! Yes I'm hungry too. Time to go home. Thanks Sebby! Thanks lightningtiger, glad you like it. Thanks for the kind reply Rick, it was quite a hassle to fit three front doors in the front inside the vestibule (hope this is the correct Englidh term). And it took me some time to figure out what to do with the interior space. Thanks ImLost, the bookshelf and lounge chair are reused from my Mr.Whiskers MOC. It is the furniture he took with him when he moved. the bath and shower were a fun build. Took me some time to fiddle it together. Thanks Benny, you're too kind. Hi booga-b, thanks for the compliment. In lego copying is the biggest compliment. Thanks for the great reply Captain Zuloo, glad you like it. Thanks Jasper Joppe Geers, I like your modular MOCs a lot as well. The baseplate consists of a single 32x32 plate and a single 32x16. So I did not go double (64 studs) deep this time. Thanks MetroiD, you're too kind. It is always super cool to be blogged/frontpaged.
  25. Thanks for your kind reply Holodoc , I imagined this to be an old music school which got a new function over time. It's inspired on my own old music school which had similar high ceilings. The actual floor level is actually fairly close to that of the fire department. The base is one 32x 32 and one 16x32. Kind regards, Teddy thanks for the super nice reply BlueBard. I've added some additional shots of the apartment floor in the first post.
